    The M2 Competition is THE best “M-car” BMW makes. So good and balanced, I traded my 991 C4S for a loaded M2C with DCT. The M2C is a little monster yet it’s balance and the way it delivered its performance is next level good. Just the right amount of tech and luxury without being confusing. FYI, my Draggy 0-60mph is 3.8 seconds not that drag racing is what the M2C is about.

    You are a good bloke and also quite young. For us older guys, we grew up with manual transmissions and I for one, don’t want to mess with that stuff anymore. So mDCT for me. My 2018 M2 was also spec’d without a sunroof to keep the weight low as possible. It’s a joy to fling around corners here in the States. I hear the 2019 and later M2’s have gained a lot of weight because of the new motor and the bigger brakes. That is a shame.

    You are correct in mentioning the M2 Comp in the same sentence as the E30 M3. I am on day 4 of owning an M2 Comp and it is definitely 'channeling the spirit' of the E30 M3 that I owned and ran for a year. Just with twice the power!😈

    I have one on order .... it's just entered the paint shop! Hopefully get it in the next few weeks. Your review confirms my decision! I have an M4 right now and love it, but the M2 Comp when I test drove it just feels so much more agile and tactile

    What a brilliant car told by a brilliant reviewer! You captured the essence of what the M2C is all about. All these videos of straight line comparisons between this and the M2C's "competitors" miss the point of this car and its target market entirely. The M2C is about how it makes you feel and if someone wants to buy a Tesla that is twice as quick then let them! This car is about soul and paying respect to the badge's heritage and that has nothing to do with how quickly you get from Point A to B.

    I heard that the GR Supra 'rotates' around corners better than the M2 Competition. The M2C weighs more than the Supra and has narrower tyres than the Supra too. With the trend of BMW going to smaller and muted engines, fake engine noise, stupid size kidney grills, front wheel drive & xdrive, the M2C and the M2 CS are like the only few cars that are making me like what BMW is doing currently. BMW use to make so many good cars that were lightweight, RWD, and had high revving naturally aspirated engines, and I feel they've lost their principles, just to prioritise on making money and keeping their largest market (China) happy with garish looking cars.

    • @insidelane
      @insidelane  5 лет назад +3

      Totally agree with the looks of modern BMWs, and the new M4 isn't going to be a looker either from the images I've seen. The good news is that the next-gen M2 will remain RWD - got that confirmed by BMW UK a few months back.
      RE the Supra. I've driven both and I think the overall balance of the chassis is better in the Supra (weight distribution helps) , but they are two different cars remember. One is a purpose-built sports car, the other adapted from a standard model. While not quite as light on its toes, my preference is actually for the M2 over the Supra.

    As someone with a family, I'd far rather buy a nearly new M5 Comp for £65k. I know so called purists think the M2 comp is the only M car worthy of the badge, but it's not they who decide what an M car is. BMW does.

    • @insidelane
      @insidelane  5 лет назад +2

      That's fair enough if you need the practicality. It's not that the other M cars are unworthy, as I say in the video most are great, It's just the M2 is the perfect size to be so agile. It really is perfect for country roads.

    • @stubones
      @stubones 5 лет назад +2

      Inside Lane i wasn’t having a crack you but I’ve so many comments from people who claim to know what makes a real M car. The M2 is definitely the perfect size for flinging down a B road and has the perfect amount of power to keep it fun and not terrifying 👍

  • @adventuresofjandk

    What is with everyone’s infatuation with a manual gearbox? It’s actually quite comical. The duct is faster and had paddle shifters. There is a reason no super cars have manuals. Take advise from someone who has had manual sports cars for decades. It’s not worth the effort especially in high traffic City’s or daily use. I swear reviewers just have to say it to seem like true enthusiasts and it’s annoying.

    • @insidelane

      Agree dct all the way, the S55 whips through it’s rev range way too fast to manually change effectively. Back road fun maybe take the manual. Track use and just day to day. DCT every time.

    • @insidelane

      There is much more to a car than weight. Its wheelbase alters how it rotates around a corner, the suspension has a huge impact, steering dictates how you interact with the car. Granted, the M2 is costly, but as a car it is more engaging to drive than an F80.

    Can't watch this video review without a driver focused, involving manual transmission.

    • @SloanZurnToto
      @SloanZurnToto 5 лет назад

      @@nessuno5403 F1 has nothing to do with this discussion.
      Sports cars are supposed to be different than your standard car to get from a to b. It's supposed to be involving and engaging to the driver, to excite and stir the soul, not be the same experience as a Camry which is what you get with a sports car with an automatic transmission. You don't get the challenge of using a clutch to change gears, heel-toe downshifts, etc.
      Your grandma can drive any car with an automatic transmission, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, but she can't drive a Honda Civic Type R, manual Porsche GT3 etc.
      Personally I prefer my sports cars to be challenging, driver focused, involving and driver engaging. You probably prefer automatics because you probably never learned how to drive stick.
      My advice to you is go learn how to drive a manual transmission and you'll see my point.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 5 лет назад

      @@SloanZurnToto I see your point and, believe it or not, I agree with it but not to the point of dismissing proven alternative racing technology. Drive a DCT in anger (not automatic or SMG contraptions) and you may be surprised.

      I've driven both a Nissan GTR and a Honda Civic type-r the GTR Has almost twice the horsepower, but I still prefer driving the Civic type-r because of the manual transmission. It doesn't matter how much horsepower? With an automatic it's not as fun or engaging to me as a driver. This is why when Porsche came out in 2014 with an automatic GT3 as the only transmission option ev all enthusiasts we're so disappointed. And that's why Porsche brought back the GT3 with a manual transmission because everybody wanted the manual. Who cares if the automatic is faster.
      95% of us are not racing. We're having fun on the street and track.
