Any and all comers! BMW has the best engineered cars at each of the M price points.
@@scienceontheright -->"the superior engineering of the BMW" What does that mean? BMW, and pretty much everyone but bespoke manufacturers, does not manufacture or design a huge number of the parts for their cars. BMW doesn't make the tires, they buy them. BMW doesn't make the glass windows, they buy them. BMW doesn't make the brake calipers, they buy them. BMW doesn't make the copper wiring, they buy it. BMW doesn't make the leather, they buy it. BMW doesn't make the engine block, pistons, starter, radiator, ..., ..., and even in cases where they provide the DRAWINGS (engineering specs), it's ANOTHER company that actually makes the product. A car manufacturer is nothing more than a parts assembler. So what do you mean "superior engineering" Additionally, any CNC machines BMW uses, they bought from someone else. Those same CNC machines are available to any other car manufacturer who choses to buy them. So again... what do you mean "superior engineering"

@@scienceontheright Unfortunately "engineering" is a vague meaningless term that's passed around in automotive discussions without fully comprehending how meaningless it is. -->"If you compare how a BMW drives, functions, behaves. BMW (and Mercedes) coupes and sedans unfortunately receive an otherwordly ash whooping on the track from Camaro and Corvette per Car and Driver Lightning Lap results. BMW ///M's take such a horrific spanking, they should be embarrassed to call themselves a "performance" car. "...quiet..." My '16 M3 (video on my channel) isn't quiet at all. The tire noise on the highway is obnoxious. The industry is just now doing R&D on legit tires that absorb a ton of sound via an insert in the tire's inner wall behind the tread. Some kind of sound absorbing foam or something. "functions, behaves, and precision" are more vague terms. I'm looking really hard for something to replace my M3 soon, and I can't help but look at genuine performance cars. I'd love to have luxury performance, but no one can make one that competes with muscle cars at less than 3x the price. Even the new AWD 600 HP M5 got beaten by a lowly Camaro SS 1LE... that's not even the Camaro ZL1 which absolutely demolishes every BMW ever made. Does the M2 come with a tow eye/ring? I need one for the Ring. ha My 718 Boxster S had a tow eye standard and for $140. a fire extinguisher BMW should have that option for their track car. Yes I spent that for the Auto. Double Wet Clutch, Sequential, Geared Transmission from Race Car Development. Not a fluid drive automatic. Easy to drive in bumper to bumper traffic and great on the Nordschleife. Use paddles any time.
Well, according to the kilt-wearing scottish princess that works for MotorTrend, he said the best car on earth is a Mazda Miata. Never mind the fact that the Mazda came in 180th place at VIR international raceway per Car & Driver's testing of 242 cars in the last 10 years. The Maz-duh, besides being a rainbow pride mobile, is among the worst accelerating and turning cars on earth at 180th place. It would be heaven if BMW ever considered upping their game enough to even be named in the same breath with a Camaro or Corvette on the track. Both the Camaro and Corvette lay waste to the NISMO GT-R, much less every last BMW ever made. In fact, BMW shouldn't even have the right to call themselves a 'performance' car, when they're so laughably behind a muscle car on the track.
@@Atombender American made crap that absolutely demolishes at the track every BMW ever made. The corvette zr1 beat the Lambo Hurrican Performante, the Porsche 918 spyder, and the McLaren 720S on VIR per Car & Driver testing. and i hate to be this person, but my poor man's version of this car is my 135i. definitely some pretty big overlap. you'd have to dump some money into the car to get it to similar to an m2 spec, but it gets pretty close in my opinion.
actually, i thought about it more and there's a difference in paycheck amounts here. the 135i is great for the price but definitely lacking once you take it out of the track stock. it definitely doesn't compare to this track ready package that bmw is offering here. you need to dial the suspension, add complete bolt ons and add an lsd for the 135i to keep up with an m2.
Welldone,I do love your videos, they are great, amazing info plus is really easy to folow About the auto transmition is a hard decition indeed,I will say the auto is a great box for 90 percent of the time but in a car like this with the manual hand brake I guess I must be the manual gear box, even when crusing it will be less relaxing than the DKG We cant have it all
Looks like M2 Comp. is a good balance of road and track mannered car, that doesn’t break the bank. For you to say you would buy one is really speaks volumes!
MotoManTV Yeah it was very obvious this car moved you literally and figuratively, just hearing you drop the F-Bomb during the acceleration run was one of the giveaways, and the overall reactions were straightforward. You always are the professional auto journalist, this was a glimpse into the teenage gearhead MotoMan who was given the keys and told “Just don’t wreck it” !! The punctuation on the review was stating this was going on your list of cars wanted in your garage, that was pretty high praise, keep up the great work! I also wanted to point out your technical knowledge and also driving capabilities need to be recognized as well!
Compared with the Cayman S I had, the engine and brakes are amazing, and poise is similar, but the Porsche is lighter on its feet. I'm a PDK and DCT fan compared with the manuals. Yes they're less engaging but they're nicer in traffic and are simply faster at the track or strip.
To me this car is everything I loved about my 2006 GTO and then some. I those cars you could get blue leather with blue. Red with red. Red in black. I agree more interior color choices would be awesome!
Thanks for this review. Only 8 more weeks; orange M2 with DCT, Munich, July and then the Ring. Not a fluid automatic. A double Wet Clutch which drives like an auto, a geared transmission. 2017 , 718 Boxster S, PDK, Leipzig and then Ring. So will compare the two. Boxster is great. Brakes were great on Ring, never any fade even after 20 laps in one day. Race developed sequential transmission, great. Hard on brakes, downshifts and revs correct for out of corner. Can use paddles to shift at anytime.
@@nessuno5403 In the USA their is not a brake option. The 6 piston track brakes are standard. Only about 6 options: color, rims, stitching, moon roof, drivers package, transmission. Nice review again and I like your channel! But why don't you do for some previous models as well? Such as E46 , E92 or etc. I really like to know what you think of old ones.
Ugggh... Not all "automatics" are created equal. A DCT is not a ZF automatic. The lead engineer for the M2 program has stated, for the record, that the M2 was designed around the 7-speed DCT. Dual-clutch transmissions were designed for and inherited from motorsports. Nothing wrong in the world with the DCT that comes as an option on this vehicle. Sure, go for the manual if you have a twitchy left leg.
Here in Norway the auto box costs $115,119 and the manuel $117,262 😅 nice he tax 🤨 Completely agree, that is the closest thing to a BMW that BMW makes, the only one i would buy right now if i could
Nice review. I bought a 2016 M2 outright and it's amazing. Am looking to fit a used carbon brace after coilovers to add that synergistic improvement you noticed, hope it will work! Hehe
Don't fall of your chair when I say this - especially after I spent today driving a Porsche - but, I would do this. Just can't bring myself to buy the 4 Cylinder 718. A 981? Tougher call . . .
Wow, wouldn’t necessarily expect that. I do have trouble with the notion of a 4 cyl., even made by Porsche. That you’d cut a check for the M2 Comp tells a lot. Particularly with that manual, it just seems special. Then there is the 981.
I think the 981 S/GTS is a must-drive before you decide. 600lbs is a lot of weight. My feeling is that M series BMW brakes are pretty impressive and the balance is good. I opted for 981 Cayman S because I found one CPO with the right options and I love how it sounds, drives and looks. My car got even better when I put PS4S tires on it
MotoManTV hmmm...982 is more tunable and more advanced in every way, 981 is obsolete...😉 I’ll keep the turbo flat four with over 400rwhp (tuned) over the inferior NA 6.
Modern automatic transmissions are good but I much prefer a manual. It’s disappointing that so few manufacturers offer them at all, even in performance oriented cars.
Clay Octane I have an M4 and I'm not a "status symbol" enthusiast. I've driven M2/M3/M4 and prefer the driving experience of the m4. There's plenty to appreciate about the F82. Carbon roof, carbon driveshaft, carbon trunk, gorgeous proportions, higher quality interior and a very usable back seat. All at a lighter weight than the M2C.
The world motoring media says M2C is the best M car in ages, including the M4. If you want to consider non-dynamic and performance attributes and you find your M4 better, good for you.
@@MotoManTV A) Not just because you did what you often do well: 1) just enough tech 2) excitement about a great driving experience 3) historical perspective B) Most important: you call a spade a spade. The best M-Car. Period. This is BMW being ultra focused at what matters. ts all about balance of the chassis, power and handling. Its in its own league without exaggeration. Its handling is pure magic. Its a sub 4 second 0-60mph RWD car . Yea, AWD would get its launch a tick faster who cares. AWD comes at a cost of fun and savage handling. Lets put it this way, its so good I replaced a 911 C4S for a M2C. Nuff said.....
Mateen S yeah ridiculous right? You could spend $1,000 (or less) for the BMW Performance Driving School and if you need the extra 18MPH you could have a coding device remove the limiter for hardly anything ....worst value ever!
M2 competition with a manual gearbox in that colour is, to me, BMW perfection. Fantastic video once again good sir.

After all, would a Porsche owner look down in disdain at being compared to a BMW? Would an Astin Martin owner feel the same way? A Ferrari owner? It becomes a slippery slope. So I say: bring it on! Any and all comers! BMW has the best engineered cars at each of the M price points.
@@scienceontheright
-->"the superior engineering of the BMW"
What does that mean?
So what do you mean "superior engineering"
Additionally, any CNC machines BMW uses, they bought from someone else.
Those same CNC machines are available to any other car manufacturer who choses to buy them.
So again... what do you mean "superior engineering"
@@TasteMyStinkholeAndLikeIt It's a nice day out. Take a moment. Take a breath. Enjoy the sunshine. Eat a hotdog. Remember our veterans who have fallen. And then examine what you wrote above. I think you are being a bit literal. If you compare how a BMW drives, functions, behaves. The quiet, the precision, the efficiency, I think you will know what I mean. Have a good day. Hope this lands well.
@@scienceontheright
Unfortunately "engineering" is a vague meaningless term that's passed around in automotive discussions without fully comprehending how meaningless it is.
-->"If you compare how a BMW drives, functions, behaves. The quiet, the precision, the efficiency"
How it drives is an emotional choice, not a logical one.
"...quiet..."
My '16 M3 (video on my channel) isn't quiet at all.
I did have an eye on the 650 HP Cadillac CTS-V, but now they've taken it out of production indefinitely. There are rumors of possibly making a performance V model for the future CT4 and CT5, but who knows if or when that will happen.
Red interior would look dope.
Some owners have transplanted M4 red interiors to this otherwise black only car
I’d like that dark brown leather that comes in the M4
This is one of your best videos. Good job.
Thank you, Hugh!
I don't know what it is, but the quality of your videos seem to be the best of the car-centric RUclips channels that I've seen. Your Subscribers should be 194M, not 194K. I love your Dr. Seuss socks by the way.

Red or white interior options of course. Shocked it's not offered. Pearl gray with red interior would be my number one choice
Today, i just drove a 718 boxter and an hour after i drove 2018 m2 OMGAAAA M2 IS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE !!! i completly love it.... its my next car for sureeeee 😉👌🏽
MBM Pablo
And it’s got rear seats..
That a beauty in sunset orange with the those black rims. Gotta love an M2 👍
the wireless charging is in the center console. I have it in my m140i.
Good comment about writing a check. Most don’t really come from that direction.
Save the manuals!
Personally, that Alpina B7 @ 0:25 is a real enough BMW for me. That thing is drop-dead gorgeous from end to end. 😍🤤
I dont have an issue with the interior color. livable and looks modern.
New E46 M3.
Great video. Man, the reviews on the M2 Competition are over the top positive!
Great review. Much prefer the Sunset Orange to Long Island Blue, which is more common. Beautiful car either way
Does the M2 come with a tow eye/ring? I need one for the Ring. ha My 718 Boxster S had a tow eye standard and for $140. a fire extinguisher BMW should have that option for their track car.
Yes I spent that for the Auto. Double Wet Clutch, Sequential, Geared Transmission from Race Car Development. Not a fluid drive automatic. Easy to drive in bumper to bumper traffic and great on the Nordschleife. Use paddles any time.
I love mine. The best M ever made for normal BMW enthusiasts
The automatic option in the m2c is DCT. The ones you compared to have ZF8 automatic . As you might know they are totally different type
Not really
@@stevelubbe7235 um. No a DCT in the M2 is completely different than a torque converter 8 speed ZF in say the M240i
Six-speed manual controlling 420 HP in a compact BMW sedan is every car enthusiasts' dream. Too bad there's no...Competition from Mercedes or Audi.
I see what you did there.
@@360mmspider A waste of time? A popular opinion is that this is the best drivers car on the market. Certainly not a waste of time.
@@TasteMyStinkholeAndLikeIt Yeah but the Camaro and Corvette are American-made crap.
@@Atombender
American made crap that absolutely demolishes at the track every BMW ever made.
The corvette zr1 beat the Lambo Hurrican Performante, the Porsche 918 spyder, and the McLaren 720S on VIR per Car & Driver testing. Most of the world's overpriced crap can't touch american cars on a track.
Maybe stick to riding camels in your 'shithole' country?
I rather car companies charge more for manual so they can at least keep it as an option.
Or for *Throwback Thursdays* you could get a horse and buggy.
I would like to see Daytona Violet and Dakar yellow, a modern interpretation of Vader seats, and obviously lighter interior colors. My favorite interior color is light grey, like the old E34 M5's etc
nice, confident presentation. loved the review a lot, casual talk with a lot of good info and opinions.
and i hate to be this person, but my poor man's version of this car is my 135i. definitely some pretty big overlap. you'd have to dump some money into the car to get it to similar to an m2 spec, but it gets pretty close in my opinion.
actually, i thought about it more and there's a difference in paycheck amounts here. the 135i is great for the price but definitely lacking once you take it out of the track stock. it definitely doesn't compare to this track ready package that bmw is offering here. you need to dial the suspension, add complete bolt ons and add an lsd for the 135i to keep up with an m2.
Haha he was having so much fun at launch, I love it!
Sunset orange with the six speed manual. Best configuration in my opinion.
Great informative video thanks
Welldone,I do love your videos, they are great, amazing info plus is really easy to folow
About the auto transmition is a hard decition indeed,I will say the auto is a great box for 90 percent of the time but in a car like this with the manual hand brake I guess I must be the manual gear box, even when crusing it will be less relaxing than the DKG
We cant have it all
What’s up?! Thanks for the upload.
you nailed this review !!
Couldn't get a M2 in 16, so got a M240I did some things to it and now the M2 Comp... Dammitt

Thanks for showing the trunk space.
Looks like M2 Comp. is a good balance of road and track mannered car, that doesn’t break the bank. For you to say you would buy one is really speaks volumes!
Thank you, Andew - and you being from Brooklyn, you know the manner in which I discussed in the episode should speak even more volumes!
Great video, love M2 as well, good job
What brakes are you getting on the M2C?
@@nessuno5403 In the USA their is not a brake option. The 6 piston track brakes are standard. Only about 6 options: color, rims, stitching, moon roof, drivers package, transmission.
I looked at the German BMW web site and many more items are options, including a Track package that includes the 6 piston brakes. Hope the M2 Competition is as good as Boxster S.
concerned about the difference in Balance, front vs mid.
the Phlanzgarten hill entering the Stefan Beloffs S, de-weighted the M235 front end, never felt that in the Boxster S.

@@dafrasier1 I thought it was an M2C that you ordered for EU :) Hope you post details of your comparison. On a normal road, 718 Cayman is rubbish compared to M2C... but not tested an S. The M2C is heavier at the front and with better aero, so it should be better than any M235/240, which are fast but soft.
@@nessuno5403 Ring: rented, M235 in 2015. New, 718 Boxster S 2017. BMW 2020 M2 Competition 2019. My video editing is not good.
The Porsche with standard seats is not comfortable. It is definitely a Sports car. The seat height is below my knee; fall into, climb out of. Sight lines are low, long way out.
I find it very good on a windy road.
For $3K, I'll stay with the manual which I prefer anyway. I have a bone stock '13 128i 6 speed with M-Sport package and I just love it to death. The naturally aspirated straight 6 is just wonderful.
I need at least one more year of depreciation hit before I can go there. I'm a cheapskate as well. Great video!
Love your show , Keep it up !
Great review , thanks .
Subscribed because of the manual
No... not joining the manual madness.
My joy in driving comes from the acceleration, braking, and turn-in
Nice review again and I like your channel! But why don't you do for some previous models as well? Such as E46 , E92 or etc. I really like to know what you think of old ones.
Close to grabbing one...but I’m still a Porsche man.
Needs to be in blue without any options. Perfect. This is the E46 of modern BMW’s. Cut a check for it today.
Here in Norway the auto box costs $115,119 and the manuel $117,262 😅 nice he tax 🤨
Completely agree, that is the closest thing to a BMW that BMW makes, the only one i would buy right now if i could
Great review! Please review Mustang Bullitt, if possible. Comparison to M2Comp?
I come here as refugee but I had to pull trigger on m2 competition that’s how good it is Country than car lol 😂 real story God bless USA
Nice review. I bought a 2016 M2 outright and it's amazing. Am looking to fit a used carbon brace after coilovers to add that synergistic improvement you noticed, hope it will work! Hehe
'I bought a 2016 M2 outright' . . . Smart move, Peter!
This vs. a lightly used Porsche 718 whatever is a tough choice for me.
Except that a DCT is a motorized manual, and calling it an automatic isn't factually or operationally correct
If the driver operates the clutch and gear selector, it’s a manual. If the car does it, it’s an automatic.
You can always tell the real car enthusiasts from the 'status symbol enthusiasts' when they don't understand why the M2 is better than an M3/4
If you want to consider non-dynamic and performance attributes and you find your M4 better, good for you.
smart man great review
Coral red leather would be so badass in that car

The best M-Car. Period. This is BMW being ultra focused at what matters. ts all about balance of the chassis, power and handling. Its in its own league without exaggeration. Its handling is pure magic. Its a sub 4 second 0-60mph RWD car . Yea, AWD would get its launch a tick faster who cares. AWD comes at a cost of fun and savage handling. So BMW wants you to pay them extra $2,500 to remove the electronic limiter of top speed from 155 to 173 mph?
