    BMW M2 competition for me all day...

  • @d3j051
    @d3j051 5 лет назад +30

    I own a 2 series and I think that anyone driving these cars back to back would agree that the M2 Comp is a more thrilling driver's car thanks in part to RWD and balanced weight means the Bimmer has the advantage laterally. The Audi will win any launch due to the quattro and sometimes that is a nice benefit but not sufficient to make me interested in it.

      But the RS3 will put the power down in consistently in all weather conditions, and a much better daily. I drove both, bought the RS. M2 looks the best but just doesn't cut it for me.

      @@matt-rw6liThen why is the reviewer going on about it? He complained the RS3 feels too 'nornal Audi' which is an utterly ridiculous thing to say when the M2C interior is exactly exactly like a 2-Series interior, but with bucket seats. That is a clear bias from the reviewer.

Apparently to be made in Mexico and will have i4 instruments. There's quite a bit on Bimmerpost and RUclips including videos of disguised prototypes testing at the Nurburgring. @@audiophilemetallian oh. Hmmm even more official info out there! Driven it, and it's very fast, grips and hides its girth well, but lacks character for an M car. I've labelled it an M5 for the poor. The car is muted and it's fake exhaust sounds are sad. Inside is way too luxe (especially with normal seats and bland colour options). Won't comment on looks. The ZF is too smooth for a "sports car" and there's little difference between different modes. There's also been quality issues (admittedly affecting relative small batches): defective seatbelts, defective brakes, missing cameras and passenger lumbar support, door seals running paint off B pillars, missing exhaust system screws and latest S58 main bearing issue (also affecting X3/X4). Wait for an LCI if you must go there...

    I like the look of the M2 but I went with the RS3 for the simple fact I don't want a car trying to kill me every time I drive it in the wet. It rains a lot in the UK. Plus my 2017 RS3 sounds way better than the M2. The main reason I bought it was for the engine.

    • @freedbeefpontoons
      @freedbeefpontoons 5 лет назад +9

      I bought an M2 Comp, I actually kind of like that it tries to kill me in the rain (and I live in Seattle so there's plenty of rain!) To each their own though, the RS3 is a very cool car, I'd have seriously considered it if it came with a manual. No arguments with the sound either, the RS3 FOR SURE sounds significantly better. I love the sound of a good 5-banger.

    I picked up my M2 Comp yesterday, and will be selling my S3 tomorrow. The M2 is definitely an angry little bitch, but each car has its advantages. The M2 had a manual transmission option, which was the deciding factor for me, but the B&O stereo in the Audi is a 1000 times better, and the visibility actually seems better in the Audi too. Not to mention the interior. So I could definitely see why someone would choose the RS3. That being said, the M2 is undeniably a special car. Driving it is an experience, and the car is a head turner. In fact, it actually draws too much attention for my liking. You see people's heads turning like chickens in just about every car that goes by.

Secondly , love the fact that he mentions the virtual cockpit for a couple of seconds but does not state how stunning it actually is. He calls the m2 “fun”, I personally wouldn’t call a car fun when you have ended up in a ditch as you have lost control in the wet. With the RS3 , you have all the security in the world with its 4wd and who wouldn’t want the security with all that power. You simply cannot beat 4wd especially in the uk, where it’s wet 80% of the time!The presenter seems very biased towards certain brands and it’s very apparent in some of his previous videos. Why is this question even being asked ?
    Audi is well known for having the engine too far forward, and under-steering into oblivion, numb steering feel, and not great damping either.
    The M2 Comp is levels above in every way.
    The 'sound' of the car is personal preference and just because you (Dan Prosser) likes the Audi, does not make it 'better', because many others (including me) prefer the BMW sound.
    If I want to sound like a chav I can just put a different exhaust on, thanks.
    I have the best of both worlds, a remapped 2017 auto M140i, which is faster than the RS3, and still has the practicality of a hatchback, and what's more, I saved £30grand lol !

      Nice different angle, but an m140i is as stiff as a spaghetti relative to a real M model 😉 Tune that B58 all you want, it will still ultimately run out of puff and capability.

      @@nessuno5403 I can't disagree with the M140i being a bit wobbly, it is.
      But, as a daily driver, which it spends 95% of it's time doing, it's very comfortable.
      I could obviously fit underbody braces, strut brace, solid subframe mounts, and make it super stiff, and handle like a boss around a track, but that would ruin it as a daily.
      I'm not sure I agree with your engine comment. It is a very tuneable engine, some people have managed over 1000bhp from it.
      Mine is running at 455bhp/634nm and there isn't many other cars I come across that can stay with it. Obviously expensive supercar's will, but for the £22,000 it has cost me to buy & tune, nothing comes close.
      If I wanted a track day car, I wouldn't use an M140i. Probably have an old Elise or Caterham if my budget would stretch.
      Could you suggest another car which matches the power of mine, does 184mph flat out, yet is practical and docile driving around town, for 22 grand please ?

      @@DjNikGnashers no, I cannot suggest any other car meeting your criteria. So I guess "your best of both worlds" approach (provided one does not elevate the m140i too highly, as you have confirmed to not be doing) is 100% correct. Happy motoring to you, Sir!

    RWD with a manual wins everyday in my book. M2 Comp by a mile. A fancy Golf with a five cylinder is still a Golf

      RWD will be spinning on all wet roads and during winter. Plus imo the 5 pot is a better engine overall. The M2 sounds like sh!t too

    Look, Audi is known for good cabins, but not in the A3 class. That particular cabin looks utilitarian and that includes the RS3. Let's give credit though, the RS3 is very fast and a bunch of fun. At the end of the day, the BMW is the heroic one and will garner the most respect.

    M2 will always be better b/c it has a manual option. Automatic bullshit is a bore and will forever be as such
