  • Demo of the Fishman fluence, Keith Merrow pickups. They're loaded in an LTD Deluxe, MH-1000ET guitar, played through my Blackstar Silverline deluxe 100 watt head, into a Blackstar 2x12 cab loaded with Eminence "Texas Heat" and "Swamp Thang" speakers.

    Great demo, thank you. Extra useful for me because the LTD guitars are my favourites. I appreciate the variety of tones tested

    The last couple of months I am really turning into a mega Fishman fan and basically switched out all the previous pickups in a lot of my guitars. The Merrows were one of the few I didn't bought but now I have to put'm in at least one of my guitars. I am raving over the KSE's, Moderns, Willie Adlers and Tosins. Great video you convinced me buying the Keith Merrows as well

    I've been looking at those guitars! They look sweet. Always a fan of LTD. Love the super jumbo frets they normally use.

    Helped me decide I just got a prestige and it has air Norton but I bought these for the voices, way easier for recording instead of switching guitars

    Great review of these,I'm on here because I just got a km7 mk3 and the pickups are sounding real thin with almost no low end at all. Not sure why. But on another note, nice playing and how do you get your harmonics to sound so dam good? I can do pinch harmonics and get them to ring out but they don't sound pas good as yours and yours are the sound I've been after for years and just can't get that sound lol it's so frustrating

    • @Shred_Rocket

      I have the km6 mk3, and yes the KM pickups on the km6 sound thin. However, if you change the pickups to let's say the moderns, the sound is still thin! Observation, the bridge pickup is much closer to the bridge on this guitar. I tried the KM pickups on my Ibanez prestige (which btw comes with moderns) did not sound thin at all.

    Are they easy to install in any guitar I have a 7 string Dean

  • @chalimoire1304
    @chalimoire1304 3 года назад

    I have these pickups in my KM 7 iii and I am only one kind of liking them after a year. They are just noisey with that hum (even in humbucker mode). I have Bare Knuckle Nailbombs in a guitar and Black Winters in another - neither of those guitars make any racket. I also find these pickups difficult to get good classic metal tones. I guess it is the lower gain and heavy mids. I have to change up my pedal and amp settings and i put 9-54 strings (7 string) and this has kind of allowed me to start liking it more.

    Some one told me that these pickups eat up batteries 🪫 and even do so when not being used played or plugged in. Is this true and how long is 9 volt battery going to last then ??

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
      @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear  Год назад

      When wired properly, they only drain the battery while plugged in. A 9 volt battery lasts me months.

    They claim these pickups are completely noiseless pickups , even on the single coil mode. But it sounded pretty noisy when you put it on single coil mode

    What do you think of the merrow bridge? Voice 1 modern? That is supposed to be the highest gain setting i think- and i dont know... they just dont have as much gain for metal in my opinion. Maybe itll take a bit for me to fall in love, but i got a km7 mkiii guitar the 7 string, and on my low chugs its very mid crunchy. My seymour duncan sentient/pegasus and even my seymour Duncan ibanez AZ hyperions sound more shred than the merrow set.

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear

      I have to agree with you. I think that these pickups had far less output than I would have expected from a Kieth Merrow signature set. I think my top 3 favorite pickups for Metal, are the Seymour Duncan, Distortion, Dimarzio, Deactivator and Bare Knuckle, Miracle Man. I really want to check out Lundgren pickups at some point as well. They seems to get a lot of positive reviews. Thanks!!

      @ph0kused 4 года назад

      Thanks for the reply! Yea ive been thinking of taking out my ibanez az hyperions and popping either a sd nazgul in the bridge or a bare knuckle of some kind. The more i play with my merrow bridge the more i like it. It is very transparent and very mid heavy. Whereas i feel my sd passives in my other axes have a more rewarding feeling chug, almost like its easier and covering up my poor technique whereas with the fishman merrow i hear everything. Forcing me to be a better player i guess. Ill check out those bare knuckle miracle man- havent heard of that model before

    You shouldn't have any hum single coil mode. Perhaps it's not grounded correctly?

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
      @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear  3 года назад

      That's factory wiring... Plus, I've gotten hum, every time I've used the Fishman humbuckers in single coil mode. I'm pretty anal about wiring too. I follow the directions from Fishman to a Tee and have always gotten hum. Maybe it's my house...

    • @anhedonia0

      Weird, mine don’t hum. Could maybe be fri interference.

    • @therifflair724
      @therifflair724 2 года назад

      Wrong, 60 cycle hum is an inherent quality of true single coils, period. Now, if you wire them in parallel, they will sound almost like a true single, but slightly different. However, there will not be any hum.
      Every guitar I play live has them wired series/parallel, as to avoid hum but still get 80% of the single coil sound. Guitars that only stay home can be series/split.

    Morrow or Townsend set and why?

    • @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
      @ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear  4 года назад +5

      That's a very tough question to answer, since I really like both sets... The Townsends sound a little beefier to me. A bit more "full range" if you will. Whereas, the Merrow set has a bumped mid range that cuts through better. So, I guess it would all come down to the style of playing you'd be doing. If your thing is shredding leads, go with the Merrow set. But if your more of a rhythm/riff guy, or tend to play cleaner, go with the Townsends.

    I bet Keith Merrow wanted a true split for the single coil split.

    • @therifflair724

      And it’s impossible to remove hum from a true single coil.

    • @WalnutWarrior7
      @WalnutWarrior7 10 месяцев назад

      @@therifflair724 It is with a preamp... which active pickups have. I believe music man has made circuits for some of their stingrays that remove the hum from their single coils. Fishman has the resources and knowhow to do this, they have shown us what they're capable of. I believe EMG also sells noiceless splittable pickups. Here, this just feels like they didn't care enough to try or were just plain lazy.

  • @WalnutWarrior7
    @WalnutWarrior7 10 месяцев назад

    This is a pretty tough sell to be honest. Especially since the Devin Townsend set does this all, and also got good noiceless single coil voicing. No disrespect for Keith Merrow, but somehow this feels like a downgrade from what Fishman has shown they can do

    I got them in a schecter 7 string and they’re ass. I wouldn’t recommend them at all. they sound just like EMG 89R or 81. Also they require a battery. Fish and are generally garbage from my experience. on a side note I don’t play metal. I play jazz fusion, finger style, prog metal, Spanish, djent. I use a musicman amp.
