Both Godzilla final wars and king of the monsters reference this, with Kumonga and Scylla attacking Arizona
Kumonga was in Son of Godzilla (1967)
@@alexisislas-gonzalez5991 First yes but
That's not what he was talking about
And both movies take place in Arizona when that sequence takes place and monarch Outpost 55, where scylla was, is a reference to the yr 1955 when the movie tarantula came out
KOTM is chock full of references, so I'm not surprised, but a reference in Final Wars? Now that's really something.
@Alexis Islas-Gonzalez read the comment
The Deadly Mantis, Tarantula, and Them! were my favorites of this genre.
Them! is a classic, but going back and watching The Deadly Mantis, it's actually way better than it seemed to have any right to be. Even as MST3K fodder, it was a really solid movie all on its own.
How about the Beginning of the End? It has giant locusts in it.
@@RandomVideos66 I never really considered Beginning of the End in the same league as Them! or even The Deadly Mantis (the effects were comparatively shoddy) but it was fun for sure. I can also think of "Monster from Green Hell" and of course "Black Scorpion," both of which had something none of the others had (to my knowledge) -- stop motion!
@@DeathKhan I remember watching the black scorpion 1957 on MST3K and I actually like it because some of the 50’s monster movies with giant insects always been caused by radiation like THEM, The Monster that Challenged the World, and Tarantula. But the Black Scorpion was about prehistoric scorpions that were asleep for millions of years and were awaken by a volcano eruption
It also featured Clint Eastwood at the end as one of the fighter pilots.
He's the one who kills it too iirc
It was one of Clint's first two movie appearances, both in the same year.. This and Revenge of the Creature..
Absolutely
"Tarantula " is one of my all time favorite 1950s sci-fi movies! And who ends up being the hero of this picture? None other than Clint Eastwood! :
Wait Clint Eastwood's in this film??
@@Rinesmyth Yep, he is the pilot that lands the killing blow on the spider.
@@smith9747 well now I've got to see this
OH really? And he land the killing blow? Cool hahah clint being clint
He was just trying to out-do Lee Van Cleef’s scene in Beast from 20,000 Fathoms 😄
I'm so glad you're doing reviews of all these old films. These were the films of my childhood. No disney in my house just old monster movies and sci fi
KOTM even referenced this will Scylla
A Them review would be super cool!
The Earth Defense Force approves this message.
Can not wait for the Them!, Mantis and Black Scorpion reviews.
Yes please!
True
He should review that yangary movie or whatever
This is one of my favorite giant bug movies along with THE BLACK SCORPION and THE DEADLY MANTIS. TARANTULA, as stated, is effective because the filmmakers are using a real spider as its FX. It's especially impressive when the tarantula's cresting a hill or inexorably approaching across the desert. Creepy as hell...
I saw this film in my early teens and it was one of many of the era which left their mark on me.
I am very happy to see you are reviewing these big monster movies. I do particularly like this one.
Remember when this movie showed in my town as a child when it was released. The theater had a giant tarantula atop of it that looked very real and frightened my sister as we drove by it. It was yet another movie that my mother refused to let me see.
I love Tarantula. Discovered it on creature feature in 1975.
Mothra (1961) is my favorite giant insect movie and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of Japanese giant monster movies. It's a genuinely entertaining and legitimately well-written film.
From ages 8 to 11, I was fortunate to live in Spring Lake, NC. Every Saturday morning, one of our three TV channels showed Bomba the Jungle Boy and then Sunrise Theater. I got to experience all those classic sci-fi B movies from the 50's and early 60's. Sunrise Theater, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Aurora monster models and friends who shared my love of monsters made growing up in the 60's memorable.
This movie was a childhood horror favorite of mine! Thank you for covering it. You stir up so many of the comfy kid feels long hidden deep inside these days. This channel has truly become priceless to me XD
I love that you've expanded beyond Godzilla, so that we can continue to get these high-quality videos from you. Keep up the great work!
This Monster film is a Classic.
One of the best movies ever John Agar and Mara Corday were great in this. Giant monster movies at its best
dude, i realy enjoy your stuff, Godzilla brought me here, tarantula sealed the deal.
This reminds me of Eight Legged Freaks. You should plan on doing a review of that abomination in the future...
It's not what you just said, that movie is amazing! Of course!
@Sin Synn The Movie is Underrated, i love The Movie of Course!
A cool review would be The Thing from Another World.
With any flaws it may have “TARANTULA”is one of my favorite B movies!!!👍🏾👍🏾
The growth of the test subjects wasn't unintended, it was the whole point of the serum.
Think we'll see a review for the black scorpion
I feel like a Tarantula review should naturally lead into that, but maybe it's just me. :P
The tarantula was the star of the i hope they gave a medal to the little guy
Earth vs the giant spider was my favorite of the two fifties bug movies
Some people have asked me to review this movie. I always tell them I can't because I'm terrified of tarantulas. I sat through it once and remember it being good, but every subsequent viewing results in me closing my eyes for most of the runtime (I'm not too proud to admit that). So at least somebody covered it, and it was good, too. At least, the audio was good. I've been down here in the comments the whole time, so I wouldn't know about the visuals.
Arachnophobia. I can relate
Oooh, ooh, please do Earth vs the Spider next! Or maybe the Deadly Mantis, or The Fly!! :D
This movie was part of a classic movies marathon on tv when i was a kid and it scared me shitless, every time its commercial came on i would run away from the tv.
Larry Fine: "A Tarantula!"
Let us all never forget the awesome star power of Gertie, the Hairy Tarantula whose tragic end was that of a neglectful custodian mistaking it for an oversized pest!
Pretty good kaiju film despite not having a good climax, I used to watch it a ton when I was a kid. I always thought it as the American Kumonga! XD
Like “them” this film became the staple giant spider format of every spider film to follow including: earth vs.the spider, the giant spider invasion, eight legged freaks
and the tons of spider films released directly to video to this day Leo g Carroll was remarkable as professor deemer the future man from uncle costar was already vet
from his work with Hitchcock and was one of the few film sci-fi scientists that you feel compassion for. Always thought of this film as part of a trilogy between films:
“It came from outer space” and “the monolith monsters” with its desert settings but that’s probably just me.universal scorer John gersherson proves that he’s just as
comfortable creating a sci-fi score here as he does a western. (Note: look carefully at the giant spider’s glass cage escape and you spot a handlers stick “coaxing” it
out from the bottom left.) Another great review!
Joseph Gershenson wasn't actually a scorer. He was a music supervisor. Hans Salter, Herman Stein, and Henry Mancini wrote the music for these movies. A lot of the music from Creature from the Black Lagoon comes from the western Bend of the River.
@@VonWenk thanks i was mistakingly giving him total credit like most do bud westmore for make up
I also liked "Earth Vs. The Spider" -- nice "lead sled" (hotrod) and Rock N Roll. Skip Young ("The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet) was one of the "high schoolers" in the band (stand-up bass).
I just bought this film off of Amazon along with Night of the Living Dead 1968 they should be here either October 2nd or 4th
Hope to see you cover The Black Scorpion! That was such a scary movie to watch as a kid!
Man i wanna watch these giant bug movies from the 50s
Watch them then, they're very easily found to watch online for free, or you can buy them on blu ray.
@@cookiesontoast9981 i kinda have a bad past between me and online streaming.....
I absolutely LOVE this movie! The compositing of the real life Mexican red-rumped tarantula with the desert landscape holds up pretty well!
I wonder if you’re doing these cuz Halloween is nearing and I want you to review lost tapes, cuz that’s a freaky paranormal/cryptozoology show that’s found footage like cloverfield and has a Kaiju like cryptid called the kraken in it.
Is that one of those conspiracy nut shows like Ancient Aliens?
Harley Dirk no, it’s a cryptozoology based found footage tv series
I've been waiting for this one. I HATE spiders. The scene where the tarantula is staring into the bedroom window gave me nightmares as a kid. Kept my curtains shut for months!
Sorry if it's off topic, but I've been thinking about the Godzilla anime trilogy. I too was disappointed, but I do agree that it had so much potential! Which is why I've thought of my own Godzilla animated series called "Godzilla: Planet Daikaiju".
It sort of has the same plot except a fixed cast of human/alien characters, classic Toho Godzilla monsters, including the obscure ones, etc. I'm also tempted to include some monsters from the Godzilla 1998 show, but I'm not sure yet. I've only recently came up with it, so sorry for no details. What do you think?
Clint Eastwood made one of his first film appearances in this film as a pilot.
This was a good movie. My favorite sci fi movie from the 50's is "The war of the worlds"
I was introduced to this movie by a still of the Tarantula in the desert, it's size shown by a road disappearing into the distance
genuinely scary
Fun fact, this is one of the very first movies Clint Eastwood starred in.
The deformed assistant looks awfully like the de-evolved professor in "Monster on the Campus" One of the better giant bugs movies + good secondary plot
My favorite movie 💝💝💝💝
I was mad abour this film
when I was a kid.
Paul Bacchus
Tarantula (1955) had a semi remake in 2002, by a movie named big ass spiders and it was produced by Roland emmerich, the director of Godzilla (1998).
This Emmerich guy is really some kind of McFarlane's Violator for kaiju-movies.
Talk about Independence Day lmfao
@leaving is bad living along with MD
Depressed Gojisaurus Rex hey Independence Day was actually a good movie
@@SaurianStudios1207 which just made 1998 all the more disappointing, as everyone expected that level of quality and were very disappointed
the king of tarantulas and spiders
Well it certainly is still the best of the 1950's big bug movies that followed THEM!
Fun Facts: Jack Arnold also did some uncredited direction on THIS ISLAND EARTH the same year. And Clint Eastwood was the lead pilot in the jet attack scene! ("Dump 'em all!")
You didn't mention Clint Eastwood's legendary cameo at the end of this movie?
"Dropping napalm, following orders!"
Best film ever!
I can imagine what would've looked like if Tarantula was given a remake in 1985, but it would be more graphic, violent and realistic and filmed in color with what would be more scary than this 1955 classic is the filmmakers using stop-motion animation and animatronic puppetry rather than just a real life tarantula for its special effects. Just being honest that a 1985 remake of Tarantula would be one of the greatest 1980s Science-fiction horror remakes of all time next to the 1988 remake of The Blob and the 1986 remake of The Fly. I know, that remake of Tarantula doesn't exist, but I'd be paying to watch it if the Tarantula was a female and gave birth to little baby Tarantulas in the remake like the 1998 Godzilla film. Besides a 1985 remake of Tarantula would be way better than the 1998 remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho which was directed by Gus Van Sant featuring Rob Zombie for its soundtrack.
A remake of this movie...
I'd watch.
This movie is very strange but well done
Oh cool I'm early. Cool review!
These reviews have some of the most amazing like to dislike ratio I’ve ever seen
"The Insane of Giant Monsters; Larugeus vs. Tarantula"
Can you look at The Giant Behemoth💀⚡🐉
A clip from Tarantula was featured in the Clint Eastwood film The Rookie and actress Mara Corday had a small role in that film(Corday was in The Gauntlet and Sudden Impact). She was in the film The Black Scorpion with Willis O’Brien’s stop motion giant scorpions.
The disease of acromegaly is real but rare. Actor Rondo Hatton had it and he was the go to guy to play a monster or a lead henchman to the bad guy in the movies.
Clint Eastwood was the squadron commander that bombs the tarantula.
I was very surprised by how physical Leo G. Carroll was in this film.
Best spider film ever.
Can you look at Attack Of The Giant Leeches 1959💀🐛
Can you look at THEM!🐜
I see what you did there
Tarantula was far superior to another film by Bert I. Gordon called Earth Vs. The Spider.
The spider in Tarantula was also in the film The Incredible Shrinking Man.
Tarantula could have been a little longer than its original run time. But with production budgets, and the competition among the major studios, I guess it is understandable.
Clint Eastwood, who played the squadron leader would cast Mara Corday in four films from his production company Malpaso.
Mara Corday was in the film The Black Scorpion.
This is a real Universal classic. Not to the level of the Monsters, but a classic
Can you look at Beginning Of The End 1957💀🦗
"I'm Peter Graves, and I'd like to enroll at the University of Minnesota."
Will you be reviewing the 50 Foot Woman
Any chance of reviewing Reigo and Raiga?
Would you be willing to do a review of Q The Winged Serpent?
I saw that movie last yr lol
Not terrible, but not good
@@depressedgojisaurusrexandc5372 I say it's great. What's not good about it?
😊 great movie
Just out of curiosity do you plan on reviewing Eight Legged Freaks?
This film is much scarier for me due to me having Arachnophobia. And I still really enjoyed it
Another Underrated Hiant Spider Movie is called Eight Legged Freaks, a Horror Comedy about spiders that go around a small town causing havoc.
While I agree that the ending is a little rushed, it still works. I'd rate this as the 2nd best giant insect movie (behind THEM, and just above The Black Scorpion).
There was an atomic element in the film. The nutrient was made with a radioactive isotope.
Dude you should totally talk about the Hannah Barbera godzilla
Clint Eastwood plays one of the Airforce Pilots who blasts Tarantula at the End of the movie.
Will you be doing all of Ray Harryhausen's work? I wouldn't be against that, especially if you focus on some of his more unknown and underrated work. Everyone knows of his films on Greek myths, Sinbad and Giant Creatures, but there's a few I feel don't get enough attention. Mysterious Island is one, where it's practically a blend of island adventure and creature feature. Another is First Men on the Moon, a unique take on aliens and space exploration. With your channel growing, I think you could get eyes on these films.
This movie is decent, It's definitely no "Them." Hopefully you can end up reviewing that one soon!
1:20 This reminds me of Night of The Lepus (1972), a movie about giant killer rabbits (not a spoof, as you might think, but a serious horror movie).
"I've got a personal grudge against that rabbit, Jim."
@@ggrarl "I don't want to alarm you folks, but there's a herd of killer rabbits on the way": best line in a monster movie ever.
Wasn’t this film shown in the Disney film ‘Lilo and Stich?’
That was the Earth vs the Spider. A similar movie with the same special effects.
Oh, thanks for the correction!
@@BigBravesFan1331 you're welcome.
Next you should do Eight Legged Freaks.
i have aragniphobia but ugh i still love this
From our lengthy suite of Herman Stein's and Henry Mancini's classic score from TARANTULA. Found on our "More Monstrous Movie Music" CD...
ruclips.net/video/uSh-IH0-ibE/видео.html
Jumping Jupiter! Lol
Ah yes
*Big Fuzzle Goes to War*
What they got right was the Spider. Today's movies they have to make the spider have armored plates with spikes all over, 20 eyes, a mouth that opens like a normal animal and has teeth. I'm not sure why but they all do that except Eight Legged Freaks...for the most part. No need to alter the look of a spider. It's not copyrighted and is terrifying enough as is.
Can you look at Attack Of The Giant Crab Monsters 1957💀🦀
Actualy, spiders are close relatives with centipedes and scorpions.
3 stars = Okay.
3:15 I disagree. Moving slow was fine considering that’s it must weigh a ton, and it’s a _huge, frikkin spider!_
Moving fast and/or stop motion would have spoiled the illusion of both size and realism.
3:52 some of us know him as Mr. Waverly from *The Man From U.N.C.L.E.*
You should do a review on the Attack on Titan live action movie.
Go ahead spidey make my day
We need a modern movie just like this lol Imagine a giant spider movie (a good giant spider movie) with today's tech? Whether done with a real animal or cgi, it would be super cool.
Any horror recommendations?
Seeing we're now looking into 1950 American monster flicks, how far away are we from *Forbidden Planet* ?
I have arachniphobia but I was interested to know about this movie.
I actually prefer them using a real Tarantula instead of stop-motion or a puppet (no hate on Harryhausen or Kumonga, tho) & wished more monster movies did that when applicable. I can't wait to see your next vids, Brandon!
please review trollhunter (2010)
Can you look at The Giant Gila Monster 1959💀🦎
Will you ever review slasher films or stick with giant monsters. Not that anything wrong with it just wondering.
It's a great film but what bugged was the characters' tendency to constantly get out of their cars and look as the tarantula came closer.
