  • Hey guys, The Gixxer will be out of commission for a while. :'(
    Watch the video for information on the problem!
    EDIT: PROBLEM = The stator/rectifier and some wiring got burnt just from the radiator burning the rectifier and then too much power going through the wires. Wires and regulator had to be replaced, parts and labor = $475 and I didn't have it for about 3 weeks. Unfortunately this is a common problem in these models of GSXRs.

    stator charges the battery. rectifier regulates voltage to the battery. when stator goes bad you change your rectifier as well. the two plugs you are referring to are the plugs the dealer uses to access diagnostic codes (fi light) if your battery was dropping voltage while revving your stator is bad. change it and your rectifier and charger your battery at 2 amp 12 volt for about 3 hrs you can't just buy a battery and put it in and ride. they are only about 75% charged. any questions just ask. sincerely your friendly neighborhood bike mechanic

      im about to buy a 07 gsxr 600 and i bought a new battery and we had to put the acid or liquid in our self, the bike wouldn't start after me only riding up and down a alleyway, could the stator be the issue for that bike too?

      I have similar problems! Can someone please HELP!!!!! I have replaced rr and stator and 30amp fuse. No corrosion in the wiring harness. Bike keeps dying and going threw batteries. Holds a charge when its connected to jumper cables but when removed it dies. Gage cluster also got stuck at 0 rpm and the gear number got stuck. Bike won't turn over, nothing.

    The smaller white one of the two dead end connectors that you were pointing out is the Dealer mode switch, it is used to diagnose problems with your bike by giving you an error code (c14, c23, c46 etc) where the FI (fault indicator) shows on your dash where the temp is displayed; there are ways of using it without the tool, look up "Ghetto Dealer Mode Switch". It will save you a lot of pain in the future.

    something like that happen to me on my 2007 600 GSXR. It was the main fuse that was touching metal and then blew. Bought a new fuse and move the wires around. It's under the seat but closer to the passenger seat. Good luck!

    Sounds like the stator is bad. Easy fix. I just did mine on my 07 gsxr750. And i replaced the rectifier as well. Usually if one goes bad the other is not going to last so may as well change both. The unconnected ports by the batt box are for test and diagnostic purposes.

    The first box you lift it up to the right is dealers mode so that you can put the bike and dealers mode and clear codes if you have codes on your cluster or to reset certain things

    I have a 2007 GSXR750 - I was out for a nice ride with a mate, cruzin' around 100kph then went to overtake a car, half way past I lost all electrics. My baby was down, I managed to pull over onto the rock edge at around 80kph as the car I just over tool was by then right up my ass. Pulled over to investigate, called the roadside assist to get a tow. Not till I got home today did I find out it was the Regulator/Rectifier. Good to see it is a common problem Suzuki should pay for this recall.

    That is the regulator rectifier as other suggested. I've had this issue twice already. DON'T buy an after market rectifier, you will pay the price as i did. Someone on this thread suggested that the location of the rectifier on 07/08 GSXR is not great for cooling purposes and he is right. the later model has the rectifier placed on the outside. Make a trip to your local hardware store and build a 90 degree extension where you place your rectifier at. The new location will reduce the heat affect that comes from your radiator. the bike is running fine since i moved the rectifier to the side. Best of LUCK to y'all and ride safe.

    • @flatlandinnovations5022
      @flatlandinnovations5022 9 лет назад

      Man I hate to see people still struggling with this issue. In the stock location the rectifier is exposed to an excessive amount of heat. The result of which is thermal failure of the diode. This is a design flaw that has been plaguing the 06 07 GSXR 600 and 750 for years. However there is no recall for the 06 07 models that covers the rectifier. To resolve this issue you must relocate the rectifier. We offer a direct bolt-on application. No modifications needed. It puts the rectifier in front of the radiator where you would commonly find an oil cooler. The result is a drastic drop in operating temperatures. The rectifier will remain cool to the touch on the hottest of days. You don't want some ugly appendage hanging off the side of your bike. Our bracket provides effective cooling while maintaining the clean lines of the bike. You can find us at flatlandinnovations.com We are also on eBay under GSXR rectifier relocation bracket.

      +gs050303 You can upgrade your rectifier with one from Rick's Motorsport Electric. It has a larger surface area and more fins with a metal back plate to give much greater beat dispersion as well. So it's better than stock, and the vast majority of people will tell you the same. Also, rather than Move it, you can epoxy glue a plasti piece inside the faring to act as a canard to direct oncoming air directly at the R/R to aid in it's cooling.

    so what did your radiator do to the bike that was letting too much power through ? sadly i was riding my bike today when i started smelling something funky i looked back and my rear seat was smoking i pulled over and realized that my rectifier was what was causing the smoke. is it just the rectifier, or is it letting to much power through

    If your stator or rectifier is gone, replace both. If one is bad, then the other one will eventually go bad. I have the same bike, had the same issues, and replaced both, now I'm running.

  • @BrutalBlarg

    @Navygsxr Yes sir! It was the regulator/rectifier and some wiring got burnt just from the radiator burning the regulator and then too much power going through the wires. Wires and regulator had to be replaced, parts and labor = $475 and I didn't have it for about 3 weeks. :(

  • @Kennedy.Lauralee16

    And the thing that's with the stator is called the rectifier and they were kind of like an alternator in a car they work together the stator and rectifier that's part of the starting up of the motorcycle so you need both of them and if one goes out is most likely you want to change but replace both with stator and rectifier cuz you'll find it'll go out right after you put the new stator on if you don't replace them both at the same time I have a 2000 GSXR 600

  • @Gilaskoram

    Not sure of the placement of the R/R on gsxr 600's, but on a lot of bikes they put em near a heat source. For instance, really close to the exhaust or something that gets really hot. R/R themselves get super hot just from converting voltages. If you combine the heat source plus the R/R, that's quite a bit of heat, and they're known to burn out. I would suggest relocating your R/R if it is even remotely close to a heat source. Put it somewhere it'll get more air.

    I was riding my 07 gsxr 600, when my rectifier got caught on fire WHILE I'M ON IT. I'm getting it fixed right now. Anyhow get your stater, battery, and rectifier checked before your bike gets caught on fire like mine. apparently this thing happened to me because my battery was too low so it over heated my rectifier which made some electrical fire.

    My bike is in the shop now, with the exact same problem. Speedo stuck at 60, and 0 on the revcounter. It's the stator, and the regulator rectifier. One of them cooked/broke, which in turn damages the other. The stator is the bikes generator/alternator, the rectifier corrects the volts before sending it to the battery to charge it. It seems this is a common problem on hider k6 and 7's. And it's not cheap to fix either :-( hope this helps

I saw that my cluster was flickering then my gauge and lights just shut off on me not sure where to start but from what I'm reading here seems that the R/R may be the problem. I found out my bike popping at idle and not wanting to start, the battery dying was a big list of things, the battery dying was my r/r burnt out and the stator burnt out, the popping and hard starting was my valves being outta adjustment, exhaust valves are suppose to be between .007-.011, two of them were .002. Did you check ur volts when you replaced ur r/r? The first one I bought was bad putting out 14 volts at idle and 17 volts at 5000rpm.

    The reg rectifier on the K6 - k8 fail in these bikes due to the position the it is in the K9 R/R was moved to the side of the bike away from the heat of the radiator and where it can be cooled buy air flow on the side if you move it away from the radiator you shouldn't have any problems.

      Alex CisnerosBa sorry man I just seen your text. Yes the location of the rectifier was definitely your problem. In addition to the repairs you have stated you will want to check the condition of your stator. You can go to flatlandinnovations.com there you will see a couple of examples of burnt rectifier and a burnt stator. You can also order your rectifier relocation bracket there. They also have a video on youtube under the title gsxr rectifier relocation bracket.

      Thanks for the reply man. Yeah I do need a relocation bracket. Mine rectifier is on the frame about an inch away from the radiator. My bike over heated because of stop and go traffic. So I'm pretty sure that's why it burnt out.. i checked the ohms they read at 0 and ac volts read at 80 with the bike on and at 5k rpms. I think the spec for the ac volts are 65v or higher. Soo I think my stator should s to ll be fine?

    • @bradskis81
      @bradskis81 6 лет назад +2

      DO NOT MOVE TO AIRBOX!
      Have you ever seen one of these things blow?? It's not a pretty sight or smell. Just moving it there to get more air flow will not guarantee it will not fry. They get really hot just doing the job they're supposed to do, and increased airflow will not guarantee it won't burn up. If it does decide to fry, the last place you want this is in an enclosed plastic box you can not easily get to, with lots of fresh air to keep the fire going and right next to lots of fuel lines and air/fuel mixture. You're asking for a very dangerous and costly mistake should one burn up while inside your air box.
      Look into re-mounting it somewhere on the side or where you can access it should it burn up, or a MOSFET style R/R which works on a different principle and runs much cooler temps.

    K6-K7 GSXR's randomly catch fire because of the rectifier. mine killed the batter so i went and bought a brand new one hooked it up and it instantly started smoking from the rectifier. i called the shop i take my bike to and they told me they tend to do this. so they are replacing it with a brand new one from Suzuki the part itself only costs $220 so all together it is only going to cost me like $300 that is labor and everything.

    My k7 750 has the exact same issue... What was the problem? Some say stator some say rectifier regulator. Which is it? Anyone?

    You shouldn't be paying for that.. thats on recall.. this literally just happened to me on my GSXR600 2008 that I got 3 days ago.. happened while i was riding yesterday.. same exact story as what you said.. and under the seat.. I'm guessing those are connections to connect a diagnostics computer.. and your from
    Independence Iowa?

    I have a 2007 Gsxr 600, I was doing a night ride and as I accelerated my Lo beam light went out so I resorted to my Hi beam till I could get home, both were blown, and nothing else seemed to be wrong with the other lights or the instrument panel. replaced the lo and it happened again. battery is good, fuses are good, could anyone let me know what the issue might be? Thanks guys.

    I was kind of hopping my kickstand safety switch just shook loose while riding with a worn kickstand, still seems realistic because only if i can start it immediatly does the "F1" code show, if i turn it completely off and ride again it is fine...? Idk all i have is my bike (06' gsxr 600) so i hope it is not as all is described.

    Start with the stator man. Don't pay for the diog. It's your stator/ regulator rectifier. If you still have the problem it's the stator also. There was a recall btw. So u can have it fixed for free

    • @delaceybrown9538
      @delaceybrown9538 8 лет назад

      +sk8erpunk351 there was not a recall on the R/R or stator

    Dang bro $500 and thats only for the rectifier. I have to replace both the rectifier & stator since both burned out, and then the battery as well & new oil. I'm looking at $300+ in parts but I save on labor at least since I do my own work

  • @opmike343
    @opmike343 11 лет назад

    R/R would have been the first thing I would have looked at if the bike was losing voltage when the engine is revved up.

  • @Bulgdoom

    My rectifier ground cables got burned out by the burned out stator, the 30A fuse was fine however.

      +Doug L rectifier/regulator is NOT under the seat. It's just behind the rediator, left side, bolted to a bracket that's bolted to the frame. It's a dark grey square with cooling fins, also attached to the same bracket is the actual horn.

    06-07 gsxr's are known for the stator and rectifiers going bad. this will allways happen. its like the tail gate on a chevy, it will never b right. the stator and rectifior is the charging system of your bike. like an altonator in a car almost.

But if anyone could tell me how much a rectifier and wiring would be and a good site to order it from that would be amazing. Please and thanx ill be checking back on here for more info thank you!!!
