Ken Block's Hoonitruck: Twin Turbo, AWD, 914hp, and Ready to Party in Gymkhana TEN

  • Is this the most rowdy Ford F-150 ever built? We think so. And so does Ken Block. But we may be a bit biased. This thing was built by the fine gentlemen at Detroit Speed - JUST for Gymkhana. Using lessons learned from KB's Ford Mustang Hoonicorn, it was made to be the ultimate AWD vehicle to shred in Gymkhana TEN.

    Ken, bro... you hit me right in the chest and feels. This story is so similar to my life.. I was raised in a Ford family as well. My dad had a 1978 F250 Custom with the 351MOD and a bulldog 4 spd manual. I literally learned to drive a stick in that truck. Killed my clutch leg so bad.. lol I also had a lot of car firsts in that old farm truck. We traveled the seven southern states for several years in it enjoying our horses and such. Lots of miles and lots of memories. I lost my dad to cancer merely a year or more ago so I will be responsible for the new life for that old truck. It's a classic and in a lot of need of restoring work. It's a piece of my past and of my memories with my amazing dad. He always wanted to have it restored but he was not much of a hands on type of car guy. Lol I wish to see his dream come true.. one day. So to say the least, I feel ya on the truck build and I think it's kool we kinda shared a similar path in life's journey. We honor our heroes and our heritage. HOON ON!!! RIP_TMC

    Actually a really good example of Ken’s humbleness but also confidence. He has confidence in what he can do and the things he has accomplished or built, but he knew it wasn’t because he was a god, it was because he was just a man ,perhaps lucky in someways, but who did the work. Guarantee you he knows he wasn’t born to do the gymkhana videos, but he was so thankful to get to be that guy and he shared it with as many people as he could

    Even though this video is now a year old, it still brings me great joy to see. I'm a big fan of Ken Block (signed posters and the works; it's awesome that he lives right up the road from Salt Lake), and it's so cool to see that the build was created because of the memories that he had with his Dad. I love Fords because of my Grandpa that passed away last year, and will be building a '68 F-250 (with a Ford motor of course) in his memory. Hopefully some day I can drive up Parley's Canyon in that truck and visit the HHIC.

    I bet if you swapped a huge cube NA big-block into the Hoonitruck, it would be Ken's favorite to drive. When he said "The sound and power delivery are unique", I don't think it was a compliment.

    • @travispeoples

      Yeah... inline 4 bangers sound better than a V6... no doubt it's a beast, but the exhaust note definitely takes away from it.

    • @kevinvermeer9011
      @kevinvermeer9011 5 лет назад +4

      I personally appreciate what Ford is doing with the push for turbo V6 as the standard engine - better for everyday driving/functional in the rare instances where you need lots of power, and I respect them pushing the boundaries of what that means by using it in high-performance builds where the fuel economy doesn't matter as much. But I think the ideal build for these would be an electric. Keep a bunch of quick-change batteries charged in a trailer, and have 30-minute shred sessions of unlimited torque at any RPM with zero delay in the throttle response...the main drawback to electric is that it's impractical for cross-country trips, if you don't mind changing tires on the regular you might as well change in a new battery. And yeah, feel free to dub in whatever audio your nostalgia requires.

    I just wanted to say that Gymkhana 10 was great but The Gymkhana Files were amazing. Only you guys could make a bonus feature better then the main event. Learning about ken’s backstory was interesting, the locations were amazing, the cars were awesome and the drama felt real. Would love to see more content like this in the future, maybe a show following Ken’s racing and eventual retirement from rally. Maybe he even brings on a protege/partner that he can train and pass the torch off to. My vote would be for Travis Pastrana.
