    Accurate infomation, thank you, just bought a Marshall JCM 2000 and a 4x12 1960A giving many possibilyty and the guy who sold it to me was telling me the exact opposite witch did not make sence to me. I am glad to come across your video that make it clear and simple to understand, many thanks again !

    You made it make sense. This helps during gigs where cabs are provided, I'll know what to look for and how to adjust my ohm settings on my head to ensure it doesn't burn out during a gig/set. Awesome video!

      Dont Get get too excited too fast. The information is actually poor and incorrect. Driving 16ohm speakers , single or in parallel, with 8 ohm amp output can potentially prove disasterous. I did just this and got away with it but it is not IDEAL, you can potentially create an electrical ARC between your tube and its socket.
      I was using my amp/speakers just as indicated above....for years but driven in an apartment. I finally had a fuse blow and burning between my tube and its socket. I smelt it burning in the room. Immediately shut off the amp.
      So, it is in fact not the best advice at all to "make sure your speakers are a higher ohmage than your amp output" is just plain wrong and an oversimplification. The right advice would be "you can get a way with it potentially but ideally you want to match your amps ohm output, with your speakers efficiency, ie its ohm rating."
      THIS will help the "guts" and circuit topology of your amp work in an ideal way, save you money, in terms of tube life, heat dissapation, transformer life and avoid (potentially) burning something out.
      So, ideally, dont have higher ohmage in your speakers rather match your speakers ohms with your amps output.

      With that context before us, lets see whether you are a person of substance and integrity or a wicked man.
      so, Who is your god that is should fear him? (dont evade my question by a segway into another question and prove what i said above, that you are insincere and disgenous and a wicked man)

    Marshall JCM 900 head {4100} 8 ohm spot on the back switch. Two cabinets hooked up with the first speaker cable going into the right side of the jack-plate in the 16 ohm hole. The same on the second cab. Make sure your mono\stereo switch is on the MONO setting. Two speaker cables out of the head, from each 'speaker out' jack, to each 16 ohm cabinet. This is pretty much all you need to know to run a full stack in a healthy way. This video was the best I've seen it explained, wish I could've seen it in 1981.

    The speakers must be higher ohms or equal to the amp....BECAUSE? It was explained perfectly and I finally understand it. The speakers are resisting the current from the amp (16 ohms cabinet... resisting a 4-8 or 16 ohm head) Sooo....if you have too little resistance on the current of the amp you can burn out the amp! You nailed it brother. GREAT JOB!

    Your right, alot of videos begin with alot of small talk, a tour of the shop,fooling around with a pet,alook at ALL my equipment,me,me me,I'm looking for info, not a cuddle, great video, top notch.

I smelt it burning in the room. Immediately shut off the amp. (as i write this i dont know if i will have to take it to a tech or not (hiwatt bulldog)

The impression i get is that he is encouraging higher ohm rating speaker relative to your amp output.
    Matching ohmage....8 to 8 for example or 16 to 16

    This made no sense to me, but that’s my fault. My amp has a switch “8Ω - 16Ω” and two output jacks. The speakers are two separate 12” cabinets. Both also have two jacks and a sticker that says “16 ohm parallel” The amp head is a Krank Rev Jr Pro 20W. I’m confused about how to connect them and what position to set the switch.

      Connect both speakers to the 8 ohms on the amp. The cabs; 16 ohms and 16ohms = 8 ohms. Only use one of the jacks for the 16 ohms of you are using one of the speakers.

    Thanks man! I picked up a cab and the back plate said 8 ohms. I opened the can and realized the back plate was wrong. The speakers were 12” not 10 like the back plate said. After more research it looks like the cab is actually 16 ohms. I was wondering if I did any damage having it plugged into the 8 ohm output,

      As he indicated, have the speaker load impedance be >= the amplifier output impedance setting and it is fine. I always recommend purchasing an ohm meter and measuring the cabinet if there is a question and disassembly is not performed. Keep in mind, the ohm meter is measuring the dc resistance of the voice coils which is almost always slightly less than the true ac impedance. Even the ac impedance of a speaker varies over frequency.

    so the higher Ohms means less power?
    If bass head unit is rated at 350 watts with 4ohms and 250 watts with 8 Ohms then if I used 16 Ohms speakers then what will be the watts power on the head unit?
