I love your method of swatching ... it's so different from other artists I've seen. I truly enjoyed this little video and it was SO relaxing as well. Thank you for sharing yourself and your precious time with us.
Oh! I’m so glad you said that-I filmed this and then when I saw other swatch video thumbnails (quick research), I almost didn’t share this because I was afraid it didn’t follow “the rules”, hah!
Hello sweet Katrina, What a joy it has been discovering you and becoming an email subscriber! I absolutely love your work, it is stunning. I have yet to take the survey you sent, which i apologize for the slowness, but I had to take this opportunity to at least comment on this video. I adore, ADORE swatching... I find it to be one of my most favorite things to do and it also is such a peaceful meditative exercise. So naturally i really enjoyed this video and just wanted to thank you for sharing this as well as ALL of your videos you share. Long or short, I have liked everything i have seen from you. Soo thanks and please continue to share. You are such a blessing. ❤
Oh Stephanie, you have made my day!! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and my tutorials-I almost didn’t share this one but I love paint swatches too! I figured it was worth a shot to try and find some kindred spirits, haha Thank you again for your sweet comment and encouragement 🥲❤️ it means so much to me
Such a beautiful video, Katrina!! Very peaceful & informative! I really appreciated how you showed the paint wet and dry! I enjoyed this video a lot!! 💜💗💖✨️🎨🖌
Yes! Seeing the color dry makes all the difference-I went back and filmed that section after I saw everything dry the next morning, hah Glad my favorite pigment expert found it helpful/enjoyable ❤️❤️
😯 Ooooo, all the pretty, juicy colors!! I must have been a magpie in another lifetime because I'm such a sucker for bright, beautiful things. Lol 😅 I'd love to see a video that focuses on mixing these colors together with one another, and/or making triad color groups out of them, if possible. 🙏☺️ Thanks for sharing your gifted haul!
The lightfastness number is a scale of 1-4 or 5 that has to do with how well the pigment resists fading in sunlight. 1&2 are great grades, but I don’t personally use anything higher than that anymore because I don’t want my artwork to fade! The other numbers are the pigment codes. P stands for Pigment, the next letter stands for the base color like Red, Green, Blue, Black, etc and the following number is less logical but still tells what specific pigment is used
Beautiful! I’d love to know your thoughts on French ultramarine Winsor & Newton vs Daniel Smith and in general vs regular ultramarine blue as far as differences and granulation!
Would it be worth it for a beginner to invest in Daniel Smith watercolours or should they start with something more affordable to play around with first? That is to ask if a beginner can fully unlock the benefits of a more premium watercolour. Thanks in advance for answering. Love your tutorials, Katrina.
I have done a little more research lately in pigments and colors and I do think it is worth it to invest a little. You don’t have to go the Daniel Smith route, but the staying power of quality pigments definitely has its advantages! I would find a teacher that you enjoy and pick a few from their palette and go from there. Don’t worry about expanding your collection too quickly because you will learn more by mastering a few and expanding slowly. If you would like some specific recommendations on which paints, let me know but I’m sure you already have an artist/teacher in mind 😊

Oh! Great idea! Could be a fun little series ❤️
"my aunt's sister's mother in law" now that's a head spinner, lol
I was confused too! Hahah, my aunt brought it to me and had a whole story about it so now I’m not even sure if I’m correct
Some really beautiful colors! You list a “lightfastness” number next to the colors what is lightfastness? What do the numbers mean?
