👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
This was the last song of their last performance ever, is why they and the crowd were so emotional, some crying! Fantastic Aussie band.
Makes me cry every time!
Should of been there mate, the emotion was like a wave through the crowd
I am still heartbroken!!
This song came out when I was 17. I'm 41 now, and the songs hits so much harder as we get older. "These days turned out nothing like I had planned." Jeez tearing up here.
44 here and I'm right there with ya!
Ohhhh Man!! You got me.. I am getting all teary. I just turned 46
Only 35 but it still hits.
Mate, I agree. It hasn't quite turned out as expected, but am happy with how it did turn out! All the best, man.
Had every Australian balling with this last song... beloved here down under. X
Unexpected reaction to a quality Aussie band. Thanks Geebz!
Brisbane, none the less 😂
Ah man... now I'm crying. Thanks for reacting to quite possibly one of the most under-rated bands in the world.
Great Aussie band!! Still missed to this day, the brilliant Powderfinger!!
Final song of their final concert, Nov 13, 2010 at the Riverstage, Brisbane (their home town where it all started in 1989). They were founded by guitarist Ian Haug and Bass player John Collins when they were still at school (which happens to be my old school too) and then met singer Bernard Fanning in first year at University of Queensland. Fabulous music.
I remember when I worked with bands in the 1990s, these lads were stinky Uni students, touring Australia in a Kombi..
Now we are old men.. Looking back on our lives.. Over 2 decades of touring, this band has every note down to perfection.
This song is so apt..I get goosebumps every time, and a tear in the eye and a lump in the throat.. Same 5 guys from Day 1 till the last performance.. Not many bands achieve that..
Bernard also sings in quite a melancholy way, and not in the standard "rock" 4th or 5th.. more of minor 9th or similar.
Radiohead all over, but pre-date Radiohead by 15 years or more!!! Aussie Pub Rock!
Powderfinger performing on their Sunsets Farewell Tour, 6 November 2010, Sydney. They played their final show at the River Stage in Brisbane one week later in front of 10,000 fans. The last song was "These Days"; the group disbanded after the tour.🥺
Their 1998 album called The Internationalist is an Aussie classic. It has the tracks
The Day You Come
Passenger
Already Gone
Don't Wanna Be Left Out
So worth checking out!
Next is Kasey Chambers, live, Newcastle Civic Centre, a cover like you have NEVER heard before being Eminems Lose Yourself. Stay with it, then strap yourself in. 8 minutes, possibly the song of the decade, she 100% owns it now.
AND, you missed the point of this Powderfinger song btw, it was their final live performance, quite an emotional final minute or two in scenes you would never see in the US. Sorry you missed it.
Same with the Teskey Brothers, Hold Me Live at the Forum. Otis meets a touch of Sam Cook with a layer of Joe Cocker, but again you see something you could NEVER see at a US concert.
Definitely. I love this.
This is just an exquisitely beautiful song and performance.
So poignant as a last performance together.
Thanks for this one geebz, means a lot you gave this band a listen
I miss Powderfinger in the Oz industry & radio soooooo much.
You have to do more of them.. theyre really good 👍
First song to make no. 1 on the hottest 100 here that wasn’t on an album, was for the movie two hands(one of Heath ledgers first). After it got so huge here in Australia they decided they should put it on the next album. Great song with great feels
Should have mentioned that triple j’s hottest 100 is an audience voted chart for the best song of the year, my bad
I canf remember the exact words but it was somthing like
"we have done and said everything we have wanted to though our music and we have nothing more we want to say with our music
Great reaction mate. So much Aussie music out there, keep reacting to it and become a star.
I was fortunate to be at thid concert...amazing band, great night. Much loved Aussie band across a broad age range. ♥️
saw them and silverchair in Darwin as a teen, first show i went to
One of my fav songs. Love this band.
Maate, brilliant reaction to a great song and incredible performance.
I was at their last concert at the riverstage. Tears might have been shed
Check out Australian legend John Farnham “help” live with the melbourne symphony orchestra please
I ball every time I hear this song!
You should check out the keyboard player here Lachy Doley. Lachy played keys for Powderfinger for a number of years. Yes, Lachy has a Hammond with Leslie Speaker: how do I know. Well, helped him several times load or unload. Lachy is a fantastic keyboard player.
Always weird to see a 'first reaction' to the last ever song from the last ever (at the time) performance of a band. The only way to go from there is basically.. backwards
There is a video out there of Bernie starting with Purple rain and finishing with These Days. So it’s there ❤. What a tops band if only they would get back together 😩. Thanks for a great reaction vid 🤘👊
haha i heard purple rain in the opening chord progression - was cool when you voiced u did too
Yeah, these days haven’t turned out like anyone one of us have planned 😢 bless Maui
Saw these guy's when they toured with silverchair. Still one of my favorite shows of all time . Only second to Rush
Best band I've seen live. Well it's a toss up between these guys and Crowded House.
Would you ever react to the fallout games music? (Fallout 3, fallout new Vegas, and fallout 4) the beginning music is really good imo.
👍
Since you're an Rock/Metal expert, you definitely should react to the fictional Punkband "Samurai" (Keanu Reeves as the headsinger "Johnny Silverhand") of Cyberpunk 2077. The Song "Chipping In" should be perfect (but they have a whole album in the game)
Damn you cut off the end! Their last ever song. The crowd crying and hugging them😢
Powderfinger was very popular when I was in high school. Not really my go - I never could get into Bernard Fanning’s vocals.
Check out Australia’s favourite sons - Cold Chisel. Legendary band.
As a musician there are only 2 things i really want..
People to know my songs & sing them like this at my own concert..
The other is to have someone famous cover my song like when Johnny Cash did Hurt by nine inch nails, what an honour that must have been for them..
Try Kasey Chambers, a well known country artist in Australia, singing her cover of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem, using a BANJO and.......The crowd didn't sing along, they were stunned into silence for 8 minutes. She owns that song now, possibly the song of this decade. Stay with it, then strap yourself in.
And, John Farnham, singing his version of "Help", a Beatles song, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, again live. He owns that song now. Also, the same concert, "You're The Voice" is worth a listen.
While you're in Australian music, Cold Chisel, live, Riverside Tour, "Bow River". A banger.
