Thank you so very much for this excellent posting. I owned this book/record set as a kid and must have listened to/read along with it HUNDREDS of times. To this day (at time of this writing I'm 46-years-old), I occasionally invoke the "Whoever disturbs my bones shall be swallowed-up by the Earth" quote featured at 2:49 in the clip.

Thank you for posting this. Back in the 1970s I was a wee lad and I loved G.I. Joe stuff. I had three of these records, but could never get my mom to buy me this particular book/record. Now, literally 40 years later, I finally got to read/listen to this story. Great stuff!

Interesting, I never knew these were ever sold separately. The record and comic I had been given had all of them.

@MystBunnyGaming If it's the book and record I'm thinking of, I believe it only had three out of the four stories.
The album without the comic had all four:
      1. The Secret Mission To Spy Island
      2. The Secret Of The Mummy's Tomb
      3. The Search For The Stolen Idol
      4. Rescue From Adventure Team Headquarters

@@mystbunnygaming1449 They were sold at our local IGA grocery store as singles with comics and 45 rpm record. They were in a rack near the check out. There were four of them that I saw.

@@andrewweisneck1102 There were four comics and four 45 RPM records when I saw them.

@@SamuelTyree1 Yes, if we're talking about the singles, but there was one album sized G.I.Joe book and record that I believe only had three of the stories on it called "The Advenures Of G.I.Joe" that was the same as the album sized book and record sets of Superman, Batman, Star Trek, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man and Kojak that only had two stories each from the regular albums.
The regular G.I.Joe album without the comic had all four stories and the title "G..I.Joe: A Real American Hero" with cover art to promote the G.I.Joe cartoon.
The regular album also doesn't have the signals to turn the page because it doesn't come with a comic.

Anyone else notice that this starts off with a snatch of music from Planet of the Apes? Thank you for these!! Like many of us here, these book and record sets were a MAJOR part of my youth in the early 70's. Now, if you'll excuse me....I have to...shoot.......the flare..............FOREVER

A lot of the records used the same voice actors and often recycled background music and effects. I had several of these, including this one, but my favorite was the Man-Thing: Night of the Laughing Dead.

I was never a fan of G.I. Joe in general, but this comic and record was a piece of my childhood that my dad unfortunately stole from me. It'll be nice to re-visit these after so many years.
