I am so on board for more 'Monopoly but we regret giving Dom this much power'
Best thing going rn actually
"Holy Roman Empire (of German Nations)" should lend itself to these shenanigans...
"Monopoly, But N@ZI GERMANY"
It has been a brilliant series
Father Dom, we have a dissenter in our ranks. I believe they are...a Capitalist!
From Stalin to Caligula... Dom might have a SLIGHT megalomania streak.
"Slight"
He also played both Nixon and Thatcher, albeit not in Monopoly, but still
you forgot Mad Scientist Dom.... which is still on the megalomaniacal streak
@@QaRajhCreations I remember thatcher but what video was reagan?
I’m glad I was sitting down for the shocking revelation.
Quickly dropping in before watching to pitch "Monopoly, but Dante's Inferno" - each player hops around different circles of hell/deadly sins, and Dom gets to dress up as a hot Satan
So he gets to dress up in his casual at home clothes?
Satan is very much not hot in Dante's inferno... Though he is chained up so there's something there
@@nugget3687I came to say the same thing.
Dante's Infernopoly? Yes please!
Dom needs his beard back.
April fools day video idea dom gathers the cast into a room to play monopoly no strings attached but none of the cast know its just standard monopoly and watch the cast slowly lose their mind waiting for the games rules to change
YES!
Dom just rolls random dice, looks over a couple of pages, grumbles "hmmm interesting, proceed" while everyone else is playing. Turns out in the end he was just doing a solo RPG adventure on the side
I feel like that is one of those ideas that sounds funnier than it would actually be
or was playing yahtzee
Better yet, Dom doesn't tell the cast what the theme is, and everyone has to interpret meaning from his capricious whims, when really he's just messing with them for an hour and a half
Continuing the popular series "Dom Allen lives out his dictatorship dreams"
I am fully on board for another riff on this theme in another few months
@@andrewferguson6901 if they don't do Maonopoly....
Next up: Dom Pot, then Adomf, then Idom Amin, Marshall Tidom, Benidom Mussolini, Dom Il Sung, Domnelius Sulla, Manuel Domiega, Mao Zedom...
@@andrewferguson6901Months, weeks... every second Tuesday...
Yep, I was about to comment about that, idk if he’s actually an egomaniac or just really good at acting like one, either way it’s entertaining hahah
Dom pushing out more creative and interesting versions of Monopoly within a year than Hasbro did in the last 10 years.
I'm pretty sure Sullivan is the one actually making these, given his knowledge of the rules every time.
@@ashling9073in the of the previous episodes I remember them mentioning that they brainstorm the rules together
@@alexharrison2743 This one is clearly Sully's baby, though. He keeps giving the game away by interrupting to explain the historical background.
He might've helped making the rules but he's also just a huge (classical) history geek.
And being one myself I completely understand the urge to interject whenever an interesting anecdote pops up.
@@Hirosjimma he may be a classical history geek, but ngl every one of his facts I knew from Horrible Histories when I was a kid - I don't think they're that niche
I love that the game ended with historical accuracy, with Caligula being assasinated as a result of a conspiracy between the Senators and the Praetorian guard.
Was hoping for that comment!
and Sullivan getting a horse
@@marks.9448lmao I forgot about that piece of lore 😂
One day Dom will say "I want to play a game" and the only thing on the table will be a rusty saw.
i need sawopoly now LMAO
@@venti3849 A couple weeks ago they posted on their twitter that they're going to be at Saw Con 2024... Tickets are on sale now...
@@venti3849 that would actually be really fun I think. _you have my votes!_
Or a revolver with a single bullet.
Shout out to Jon for trying to Romanize T-Rex as Tyrannosaurus Rexium when Tyrannosaurus Rex IS ALREADY LATIN :V
The in universe lore of Dom being a descendant of Caligula makes things from the last few years add up and I HATE IT.
I mean.... do we know it's NOT true....?
Well, kind of, because Roman history would have gone in a very different direction if there had been any Julio-Claudians left after Nero, but they did put themselves about a bit, so they probably had a ton of illegitimate offspring.
@@MastaDRD We know he had only 2 legitimate children (1 biological, 1 adopted), both of whom were killed. I went and looked it up after he said that. As @lexocoornfell says, he may have had illegitimate children but there's oddly no record of that. There's some suggestion his affairs were mostly homosexual.
@lexicornfell7361 If we include Augustus, then there were apparently one or more legitimate female lines that lasted long enough that they vanish from history. Of course whether lines remained legitimate after that would be difficult to say.
before I even clicked on this video I was like "I wonder what emperor Dom is gonna choose, I hope it's Caligula" and hot damn did I not expect to be correct lmao
I was like "oh, it's got to be Nero, right?" but as soon as he said he was Caligula... "OH NO, OF COURSE! NOOOOOOOOOO!"
Emperor Dom eh?
I know you meant to query which emperor would be chosen by dom, but I keep reading it as you being curious about emperor doms choices going forward
Honestly I was expecting something made-up like Dominus Maximus, but I should've seen Caligula coming lol
I was kinda expecting Nero or Tiberius. Caligula fits well enough though.
Domitian was also there for the taking. Another ruthless autocrat according to the historians, but probably not quite mad enough for Dom's purposes here
Im very surprised he didnt say "Friends, Romans....Sully."
I love the spite Dom has for people who say the landlords game fact
31:01 "No, no! I'm just a Libertini against a T-Rex!" Sullivan cried as he was shoved into the arena.
i am honestly terrified Dom might do a HP Lovecraft monopoly with sanity attribute
I'd love to see that. With elder signs hidden in the decks to summon/seal horrors.
That would be so cool
oh please yes
I am so happy this is a series now. Dom running various versions of Monopoly is truly something special.
My favourite thing on this channel is monopoly
My favourite thing on this channel is Dom
Actually, Dom, Monopoly was originally called The Praetorian Game and was a critique of roman history, politics and culture.
tales of a previous Greek game named Monopolis are entirely inaccurate
Actually the original Monopoly was burned in a fire.
clean shaven baby faced Dom in full "Little Boots" mode gave me a severe case of uncanny valley at the beginning of this episode. Who is this monster, and how did they get such an ill fitting human suit?
getting real Philomena Cunk energy from this intro
"Some say that Monopoly's origins trace back to the glory days of the ancient Roman Empire, several centuries before the release of unrelated Belgian techno-anthem, 'Pump up the Jam.'"
@@CrustlessKing 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
"When the lady on the right goes to a stadium in America, where does she sit?"
"Row-Z."
"Yes, that's her name, but where does she sit?"
(She asked for a pun...)
She must be watching baseball then. I wonder who's on first...
Her last name might be Nicholls, but all I see is a dime.
There’s your pun.
@@QaRajhCreations What's the name of the guy on first base?
@b840 No, he's on second
@@QaRajhCreations who is?
Welp, while I'm firmly in the camp saying Caligula was largely demonized by his contemporary historiographers (though he indeed had some episodes near the end of his life), this was incredibly entertaining, loved all the little details and a whole thing as large. Just as unhinged as Communopoly was and a great contender for comrade Stalin, "Monopoly, But ..." is an amazing addition to the channel.
NRB: Viewer discretion is advised
Me: DOM WHAT DID YOU DO NOW!!!
daddy dom going from beard to no beard was difficult to watch
"That's not even a Roman word."
Latin, Sully.
Sullivans laughter is always so ... infectious.
Next up, "Monopoly, but I have put a landmine in the chair you are currently sitting on and unless you win you get blown to bits"
That's the final episode before he retires from NRB
44:31 And all the time he spent captive, he was reading his poetry to the pirates. The poetry was horrible, but he was a narcissist and belived himself to be a great poet.
By the time he was randomed he had actually become friends with the pirates. So when he returned home, he rounded up a big fleet, captured the pirates and had them all executed. Ah, friendship. 😂
@@E.T.42you mixed/skipped a few of the facts
@@E.T.42I believe he did promise that he'd do exactly that, though. They just didn't believe him, or thought he was joking.
@@jcola477They probably thought he was insane, and they were right but...
Dominus Maximus, Imperitor of No Romans Barred, chuckled at Molly's question. That qualifies as a laugh.
Dom as Caligula is frighteningly fitting.
“We will dry the river out, and fill it with turds” maybe the single greatest line spoken. 😅
~Thames Water
Incredible! I can't wait for Napoleon-opoly, Majahapit-opoly, Castro-opoly, Sulemin the Ottomon-opoly! The possibilities are endless!
Napoleon was surprisingly rational. You probably wont get as much of fun game from him as say Mao or say Castro or Suleiman.
@@gediminaskucinskas6952 But French Revolution Monopoly would be absolutely insane.
@@loganleroy8622 that would be fun. Similar to the Communopoly where you lose a piece and die, then grab another piece until only one is left lol. And you're trying to send each other to the guillotine.
Dom and Sullivan are blowing these "Monopoly but" episodes out of the water!
Pterieghhie is superb too.
"I have more decrees, Jon" 😂
We need Monopoly, But Pirates! Monopiracy! Dom can be the British Empire either hunting them down or the ships for everyone to capture
I appreciate Sully's little history lessons!
why does dom nail the roman emperor look so effortlessly
Monopoly but... and Call of Cthulu! We have been spoilt this weekend.
Great weekend for the piggies
I saw this, didn't process it fully, and immediately thought "Monopoly but... Call of Cthulu!!" and now I want that exact thing, with madness, and rituals, and all that good shit!
We totally need Monopoly but Cthulu.
Can't wait for the inevitable "Monopoly, but the French Revolution" where Dom plays Robespierre
Getting rimmer vibes from dom with that horse puppet. "What are we going to do with them mr flibble?"
Every monopoly game needs the power combo of Sull & Dom.
11:10 Dom had a missed oppurtunity to say "Rome wasn't built in a day. It was built in 1 day and 2 hours because someone (insert Rosy here) flubbed up the marblework."
Pls keep up this trend of Dom-onopoly. I love it so much, i never would have expected Romanopoly
I do love the theme of “actual monopoly is awful, and the only way to make it entertaining is to make it a torture game”
Jon in an "Monopoly but..." video is all my dreams come true
Wow, didn't expect Rome would be the twist. I almost choked when I started the video of surprise and excitement.
You didn't read the title?

"Researching my genealogy i found..."
"...from his genetically inherited madness"
10/10 thats a very clever joke that not evrryone would have gotten
And Sullivan gets the horse in the end. How fitting!
Imagine, Dom-poleon. renenacting the napoleonic wars with RISK would be fun. managing supply lines, morale, having special event cards that can screw with everyone and each nation having a special ability. Who knows what can happen with Dom-poleon at the helm.
I absolutely love this series. Dom's evil genius is endlessly enrapturing.
Dom's monopoly rules are always a blast and this will never get old
Going from bearded Dom in the intro to clean shaven Dom in the game was a hell of a ride 😂😂
This has no right to be so thoroughly historically accurate. This is a genuinely good educational resource on Caligula and I hate it.
When rime starts to burn and Jons like "but itll be different this time right" is just endearing to me. Like a bunch if accidental time travellers
You all had me going crazy with the faint "ice cream truck music" during this episode. lol
This has so much "We did it, Patrick, WE saved the city!" vibes to it xD
A Roman Emperor expecting not to get assassinated is like a Pig expecting not to get baconated.
Should brand this as a spinoff series called Domopoly. I hope there are many more to come.
We have an emperor named Domitian that he could have used, but he was not good enough for Dom. Caligula though
Domitian? The guy who invited his colleagues to frightening dark gatherings where only he knew what was going on, just to display his powers?
Nah, can't see the paralels.
Ah yes, Domitian. The guy who once threw a banquet for some Senators where he draped the entire dining hall in black and had a gravestone with each guests name written on sat next to each guest. Domitian then spent the entire meal talking about how much he would love to slaughter the entire Senate to the quaking, terrified guests before saying goodnight, sending them home, and sending the tombstone to them as a ‘gift’.
No wonder he was condemned to oblivion for eternity after he was murdered.
dom playing caligula makes a lot of sense
I love Dom. The first video I watched on NRB was Communopoly one, so he essentially got me into this channel. I've now watched almost every single video, and I'm hungry for more. ALL HAIL DOMINUS MAXIMUS!
Mr Queebus, Red Dwarf meets No Rolls Barred. Dom would make an excellent Rimmer.
Dom looks like your typical history professor
Dom: Gais julius Ceasar Augustus....Germanicus
Me: "oh no, prepare for horse senator"
I was gonna be productive, but the Dommunist Party put out a video.
There were roughly 70 roman emperors.
An estimated 37 of them were murdered.
OVER HALF OF ALL PEOPLE WHO WORE THE LAUREL WERE MURDERED.
I think we need to bring fascist monopoly in the next episode
I love the genuine fear on Sully's face whenever he has to force agreement/laughter with the Imperitor!
“MaRgErY GET THE PURPLE BEDSHEETS!!!!” Ten seconds in and I can tell this is going to be amazing
I absolutely love these monopoly games! Dom is a legend. Are we going to get a medieval monopoly or Spanish Inquisition version?
Ah yes, who doesn’t have the Doman Empire living rent free in their heads… it works in writing but saying Dom-an Empire out loud makes it all fall apart🙃
The tweed tie is excellent
Dom's Attenborough impression is fantastic.
Jumpingin before fully watching. Are we all now collectivley in agreement that Dom has taken over the channel and using it to play out his indulgence power fantasys? Because I'm more than happy to see him cosplay as other historical dictators.
Also if no one references "Romanes Eunt Domus" I will be throroghly disappointed
40:40 was _devastating_ ahahaha Poor Jonius
Dom is the Evil Genius version of Miss Frizzle and Monopoly is his magic school bus. I love it.
Dom is so unhinged and I can't get enough of him hosting such fair and easy games like Monopoly.
Finally, Caligula as he was meant to be experienced.
is this why men think of the roman empire so often?
Hell if I know. I’m more interested in the Persian Empire myself.
I would actually pay real money to get hold of all the monopoly rules material to download
I oh so want to play Communopoly with my friends, it would be absolute chaos and they would all be dying from laughter... and terror.
@@sudenkieppiCommunopoly is available as a mod on Tabletop Simulator!

I'm only just starting the video, but the title alone has my Classics major brain swimming in the happy chemicals. This is gonna be good.
EDIT: Consul Queebus has me in stitches. Thank you, Dom, for this _mangificent_ Caligula performance.
I have never watched you guys before, but the title of this video intrigued me enough that i HAD to check it out. The guy who played Calligula's acting in the first part snagged me in to continue, and the overall vibe of this video gave me a lot of enjoyment! Very Smosh Board AF vibes (this is a compliment) where people are just, enjoying playing a board game together. Poor rosie burning to death while being the strongest member on the board is hilarious. Do Monopoly but it takes place during the French revolution
Hey Dom, did you know monopoly was originally called the landlords game? Did you, Dom? Did you?

bearded father dom of scholarly wisdom to clean-shaven twunk toga dom was an insane transition that gave me whiplash

You guys know how to capitalize on a success. Smart business peeps.
With all praise - this has been the most enjoyable time I've seen in a while! Sharing so many laughs. (And kudos to Dom for making monopoly feel so fresh!)
Can’t wait for Monopoly but feudal!
If you ever do American guests, I would love to see Dom and Mr. Sark clashing. I don't think the building could physically handle it.
Amazing episode as always. This is literally the greatest channel ever.
Literally procrastinating from making an hour-long video on the Roman emperors to watch this video lol.
I found your channel through this comment. I was delighted to find thorough and entertaining history bites in your Habsburg content. +1 Subscription.
@@ReileyU Awesome! Welcome!

Naturally, the best pick for a Caesar would vote for himself.
Getting strong Rimmer and Mr Flibble vibes from Dom in this episode with Mr Quebus. "Mr Quebus is very cross, oh we cant do that Mr Quebus, who will clean up the mess" 😂😂😂
I like how these are slowly turning from competitive games to cooperative vs Dom
A Monopoly where the players team up and manage to beat Dom? Is Dom losing his touch? Or maybe this is what Dom wanted all along: for them to realise the only way to win is by working together and not against each other.
