    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад

      You wouldn’t be able to achieve that automatically so you’ll have to simply turn the stalk forward during driving and back off when done.

    • @JDrwal2
      @JDrwal2 2 года назад

      @@brianruperti Thank you. I know that but the thing is - I want that happen automatically, without thinking.
      I need headlights AND taillights go on once engine starts without having to think about it.
      The biggest hazard that legislators created is that they allowed daylight running lights to be activated without tail lights.
      Even yesterday I was watching people pulling out of the parking lot during lunch time without turning their tail lights on. They knew they had automatic daylight running lights.
      Well…. it was raining and very foggy!!
      How reckless!
      That’s why I want my auto running lights to go on together with taillights.
      I expected that the 2022 Highlander Hybrid would allow me to program that.
      Unless you are saying that even in headlights ON position they will turn automatically off when I shut down the engine, so the switch can stay in the ON position permanently.

    • @brianruperti
      @brianruperti  2 года назад

      @@JDrwal2 When your lights are in the auto position, you will only have headlights during the day, which is sufficient for safe operation. Once the vehicle senses it is dark or even in a dark tunnel, the tail lights will turn on. But during daylight hours, your DRL will be sufficient.
      With the example you made with rain, you can edit the sensitivity of the auto lights to come on much sooner. But I must remind you that the responsibility is due from the driver to know when it is time to turn tail lights on, to follow the law, and have common sense about safety with light use.
      Your values lie with mine, bearing the safest choices for daily use. But we must remember even driving in the daylight sunny conditions with no lights at all is considered safe and legal, I still can’t help but wonder about peoples common sense when driving in the rain with no headlights and wipers on. Or speeders that don’t use lights. Or most drivers and their habits anymore.

    • @JDrwal2
      @JDrwal2 2 года назад

      @@brianruperti Thank you Brian! I still have so much to learn about my new Highlander.
      Sensitivity - I’ll crank it up a notch.
      By the way - in Europe an additional tail light is mandatory on all vehicles. A very bright tail fog light (red) that must be on in a fog or heavy snow.
      I have only one complain about my Highlander, but it’s a big one. For my height this vehicle gets the driver into most uncomfortabke positions of any vehicle I owned or tested. To the point that makes me want to sell it.
      In vehicle of thus size one wants to see at least the edge of the hood.
      At least a little bit of it. Especially important in city driving or parking.
      I’m 5-4” (164cm) tall. So I’m not the shortest person on the planet. I like the front of the seat to be slightly higher than the rest of the seat. And yes, it adjusts this way, yet when I try to raise the seat high enough to see the front of the hood it reaches it’s limit too early and starts lifting only the center and back of the seat. That makes me tend to slide down forward!
      Even worse - it also starts shifting the seat forward even though I am not pushing the slide forward knob.
      This makes the distance to the pedals to short for me.
      I am trying and trying every time I drive to adjust the seat but it’s not working for me. It lacks about 1/2 to 1 inch of extra travel in the up direction before it freezes the front of the seat.
      May try it yourself. You will see. At one point the front of the seat will no longer move up but the rest of the seat will continue.
      For me this is a major, major flaw.
      A 50k vehicle with the most uncomfortable drivers position of all?
      Come on…
      Unfortunately I cannot grow any taller.
      My wife hates it too. She’s a bit shorter than me. So she keeps driving her Dodge Ram.
