      When you restored the saved image on the new 1TB OLED, did you have to do anything on the new Steam Deck's SSD before (like formatting it)? Or it will just override on what's already stored on the internal SSD of the OLED (the already installed SteamOS)

      Haven't actually done this myself, but I would try just restoring the image to disk option. Theoretically, it should restore it as it is with partitions in tact and uefi boot records. But I cannot say for sure without going through the process myself. Another option would be to clone each partition separately and then restore each partition separately. For example might try restoring SteamOS first, making sure it works. Then partition the drive using KDE or GParted and then restore Windows to the other partition.

    Before trying to do this, I tried using dd on Konsole to try and copy my 512gb ssd to my new 2tb ssd and that doesn't seem to have worked properly. But now when I try to do Clonezilla hoping to do this method, it has 8 partitions on the 2tb external ssd with the 8th partition having the most storage on it (around 480gb) is there a certain way I need to format this SSD? any tips? Not sure how to properly format this before doing the Clonezilla method.

    • @OVERKILLGAMING786
      @OVERKILLGAMING786  Год назад +1

      No. I don't believe you will have to format the SSD in any particular way because when Clonezilla restores the cloned image to the new media it will format it for you. That's how it worked in my experience. However, you can also use Windows to delete partitions beforehand as well by using the Disk Management Tool. Right click on My PC --> Click on Manage -> Click on Disk Management, then delete the partitions. Afterwards you should be left with an EFI Partition which cannot be deleted and a large unallocated partition. You can then right click on the unallocated partition and select New Volume to create a formatted partition as NTFS or another file system.

    • @Nick_Knackz_
      @Nick_Knackz_ Год назад +1

      @OVERKILL GAMING so would I just choose the partition with the biggest size? Most of the partition sizes are 64mb, 256mb, stuff like that and then there's one with 480gb (sdd8), theoretically you're saying if I chose that one, it would just wipe the whole drive and format it and partition it the same exact way as the internal that I'm cloning to it, correct?

    • @OVERKILLGAMING786
      @OVERKILLGAMING786  Год назад

      Yes, you should be able to restore your clone to that 480 GB partition if you choose the 'restore_an_image_to_local_partitions' option as shown at 10:55 in the video. It will leave all other partitions untouched. If you choose the 'restore_an_image_to_local_disk' option like we did in the video example, then it will overwrite the entire SSD with the cloned image and the entire SSD will be erased and reformatted.

    • @Nick_Knackz_
      @Nick_Knackz_ Год назад +2

      Is this okay to do with the SSD you'll be putting in via enclosure? That way I don't have to do the middle man of having to use another external SSD or microSD. As in follow this and just pop in the new SSD with the cloned image on it?

    • @Nick_Knackz_
      @Nick_Knackz_ Год назад

      If not I've got a spare 1tb microSD card I can go through this with, if that's a hard requirement. Tried booting off the external SSD to see if it worked before popping open the Deck, went through the boot menu after following the video and was stuck in bootloop of "Rebooting Into Firmware" to see if it worked so I figure that this method will not work and I need to use the exact method shown and cannot do it the way I just described in the previous comment.
