    I show in this video an artisan way to customize an old 'VW Beetle original heat engraved door panel'.
    I have used a soft pressed cardboard 1.3 mm thick as padding. The material on top is a synthetic vinyl material 0.5 mm thick.
    This sample is just a 'smaller replica' that looks similar to a real one. The 'channels' were cut 6 mm wide. The final outcome for the channels would be of 5 mm considering the vinyl thickness.
    For better results I would recommend to 'laser cut' the cardboard pieces.Fortunately, these machines could be found everywhere.
    I also show how to replicate the original pleated VW bag.
    I hope the enthusiasts enjoy the video and find some inspiration from this wonderful art craft!

    i just knew I would learn something. I wondered if he was going to a french seam on the door panel, but I like the recesses done with precision. The double cuts in the inside corner, and that other corner...you did the other corner, pinch, pliers, trim it. Sewing, well, watch the magic happen before your eyes with Chechaflo !

      Hello Jeffrey, I have used a 'yellow brushable glue':ruclips.net/video/o2xeezdF8Ss/видео.html You would need to find a similar. It could be weldwood contact cement, petronio's glue, etc.
      I used a thick cardboard board (shoemakers' material) for this sample. I cannot recommend because it could warp because of heat or humidity. You would need to get the special cardboard for your door panels.
      I am sending you some useful links to get a much better panel backing:

    Cechaflo, how do you ensure the facing leatherette stays in all the grooves, long term? It did not look like contact cement was used. It appeared to be a low tack adhesive since you could reposition the facing material when setting it on the substrate.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 лет назад

      Interesting questions! If you watch carefully the video you would realize I have used some 'tips' to make the 'channel shapes' last long. 1. The 'stretchy side of vinyl' is in vertical direction of horizontal channels...that way, it easier enter into the grooves...in other words it should not be forced. 2. The vinyl was just placed in a soft way over the panel to let it slide into the grooves. 3. The stitcking process has also much to do. I first liberally applied a coat of glue over the 'cardboard channels' (just the channels) as a primer. I did the same with vinyl material. After letting them dry I applied a thorough coat of glue.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 лет назад +1

      El material gris es un simple 'cartón suave prensado' de 1.3 mm de espesor, que se usa en artes gráficas. Se puede conseguir en tiendas que venden artículos, tales como cartulinas, papel de oficina, plumas, etc. En Office Depot, Lumen, etc. A manera de base utilizé cartón mas duro de 3mm de grosor. Este cartón grueso lo usan los zapateros.
      ¡Reciba Ud. también un cordial saludo!

    Hello your video is very helpful iam about 2 build my second pair of door panels last time I used foam this time iam going to use paperboard so my question is how to keep from seeing the door clips under the vinyl after installing the door clips? Any advice is appreciated

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 года назад +1

      The sample of the video has two layers of cardboard. The first is the base and should be the original thickness. The cut layers on top are distributed and glued down to the cardboard base.
      In fact the clips will be fastened to the cardboard base holes. To avoid any protrusion on top view the thinner cardboard on top should have a recess on its reverse just enough to house the fastening part of the door clip.
      If we would upholster a plain design on a VW door panel cardboard, then the clips would go hidden beneath the foam. We should leave a small gap with no glue to let the clip be fastened to the cardboard easily.
      Hope it helps.

      A waterproof material (plastic or cardboard) that endures humidity.

    what about Retainer, Door Trim?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  3 года назад

      This panel is a smaller sample than normal VW panels. I did this video only to demonstrate a way to replicate a real VW panel. No problem with the retainers/trim fastener. They could be fastened as it is done on a real panel.

    El material que usa en cartón o espuma

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  5 лет назад

      Para esta muestra usé cartón para plantilla de zapato. Es lo mismo que usé en este video:ruclips.net/video/jZT6ViLV3_4/видео.html
      Para cartón base en caso de reemplazar el ya existente hay que usar un cartón especial resistente a la humedad y calor. De otro modo se llega a torcer. Buscar un material parecido al original como el que que usa Greg en su video:ruclips.net/video/sYXnNzB4pxw/видео.html

      Thank you. I only see small pieces. Do you get it door size sheets?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@randyprince9913 The sheets I have bought are slightly large. 1 meter wide by 140 meter long.
      It is mostly used in the shoemaking industry and I have realized they imported this board from China.
