it's so nice and refreshing to see a rookie/debutante with a one-handed backhand. GMP will be a player to watch
Agree, but it looks like a weakness. He didn't generate any power off of it and you can see he tries to run around the backhand half the time which won't work against higher quality opponents. Hope he improves it cause he definitely has a lot of potential.
Yes, but his backhand is bad.
A one hander? I'm an instant fan!
The backhand looks weak tbh. We already criticise Tsitsipas for his backhand and Perricard’s looks much weaker, I’d say it’s even below Eubanks’.

You're a supreme hater.
Perricards style is so laid back. He looks like he's in a local park doing a casual warm up.
I mean hes at home so he kind of is lol
3:34 mamma mia 😂🤣
🤌🤌🤌
Gio is a big guy. Big. HUGE. 2.03 meters. And he can MOVE. Never seen him before, but I have a feeling if he stays healthy, we're going to see a LOT more of him. Big serve, very linear backhand, and plenty of racket head speed on the forehand, equals a dangerous player on faster surfaces. Really looking forward to watching him improve over the next couple of years. Well done.
Saw him a little before, took bublik to three sets at the European open. Hits big, sometimes misses big, but it’s the game he believes in and if it gets better then it’ll overwhelm a lot of players, they’ll need to start making him uncomfortable a lot earlier in the point then they’re used to instead of constructing the point, as of right now against a lot of players this style seems to fall apart, and in best of 5 it’s even harder, but he’s only getting better
Watched almost every match of his since last RG, he has achieved serious improvement staying in the rallies along with forming a reliable serve that often gives him 25+ aces. He won back to back challengers last month on hard which is his best surface results wise. He lost a tight 3 setter at the 3rd round of AO quallies when he encountered another big server. His game not allowing much success on clay has forced him to avoid it for most of the year. He recently played some clay though and stands at a 4-2 record on challengers and 3-2 on ATP level (both losses coming from Barrere). His game is refreshing to watch in today's homogenized similar long-rally play so he is one of my favourites to watch.
He has been on a tear lately wining back to back challenger titles!!
Single-handed backhand? Did I see that right?
Great stuff Giovanni.
Yes you did well
This guy has a huge serve he is over 2 metres. I think he will be the new servebot especially on grass or hard. And he is moving very well compare to his height. 20 years old guy very high potential.
Looks like a very promising player.
Always nice to see some new one handers on tour!
Mpetshi Perricard with a Thiem style fore- & backhand 🚀
[3:33] Lorenzo being italian is quite funny 🤣
Mpetshy Perricard is unstopabble 😂
Its like eubanks if he did something outside serve and volley
Felicitations Giovanni et reste concentré sur ta lignée….super fier de toi 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Giovanni I'm your biggest fan!
Finally I see a winning one-hander player ❤
If I had Gio's serve, you couldn't tell me anything about anything. GMP is fun to watch.
LS always grunts 1-2 sec AFTER hitting the ball. Here it was no help. Frenchman just took him & his disgusting grunts apart..well done GMP
Great game by Giovanni 👍
Giovanni is good. He is very tall and seems to move well around the court. I cant wait to see how he stacks against the likes of Sinner, Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rublev, Zverev, Ruud, Hurkarcz and others.
The youngster is incredible to watch. A smooth powerful game and the bonus of a graceful one hander is so keen. And he doesn't scream with every strike...Perricard!
This Boy is 100% potential to have many Grands Slam champion... Good Start !
I love that Gio does not play to the crowed. Just goes about his business.
His forehand is similar to Michael Mmoh's forehand.
I noticed that too. Very controlled and deliberate racket turn and wind up with fast wrist acceleration
Beating Bublik too! GO GO GO Giovanni!
Sonego is even doing the delayed moan on a backhand slice. FFS stop it already. When will umpires grow enough balls to call hindrance on this nonsense.
GMP seems like cool dude. Good luck to his future career!
I've been waiting for you and today was a good win... Please don't expect that rhythm... Those mistakes won't work next... %ages!
Ещё один молодой одноручник появился!
"Одноручный бэкхенд умирает", говорили они))
Goran Ivanisevic JR
Reminds me of Chris Eubanks
so many people are making an example of Sonego's poor form
....can we disable the hype-machinery for GMP? Just let him do his thing and see where it goes. Also: Frenchie with an Italian name, always refreshing.
No hype machine, whenever someone gets their first win in their home country they get a video, it’s nice for the patriots
Mpetshi is Italian? I never realized!
One hand backhand after long time born on the same date Roger aug8 same to him also😮😮😮
Graet exemple that no need fast balls better use angle and control
Il a toute ses chances de gagner le tournoi 🇨🇵
We can't necessarly see it on the screen as he's not that slow, but the Frenchman is tall...2m01.
Features a parrot squawk, "mama mia" by Sonego, and at least the main reason everyone is here: "How do you say his name?"
He looks like Tsonga’s son and Eubank’s twin.
Tsonga a little bit. Eubank???
LOL, not a bit of Eubank, except for the skin colour.
@@BlackBrownYellowWhite-wf3gr he got the giraffe legs of eubanks
terrible news... argh 😞
Will win more slams than Tsitsipas
Sonego lost on purpose obviously
Why
He just got outplayed and this tournament means much more to Perricard than Sonego. I wouldn't say losing on purpose but you need to take into account that most players have tournament priorities. He just couldn't handle Perricard's serve.
