    I haven't made the financial jump to HDZero yet, but I do plan to make that change.
    On my Skyzones I switched to the double Axii and it made a big difference in how I fly. I can fly around myself with much better reception. No more trying to shoot a signal through that large melon on my shoulders 😄. It was definitely worth the investment. I also pair it with an Axii patch.

    Outstanding video! Wifi in the 5.8GHz band uses 5725-5875MHZ. I'd suggest you choose a channel outside that range to start (I fly F8 5880MHZ, while my gurl is on E8 way out at 5945MHZ). I whoop in a multi unit condo on a golf course, an RF nightmare, and fly long-ish range (1.2W FPV) planes on the fairway out front. I found it's pretty clean in those channels, and can fly out to, well, extremely irresponsible distances with the planes.

    Raceband 8 is usually a bad idea. VTXs will put out significantly more power on lower frequencies like R1. In case of the betafpv M03 this difference is enormous. 277mW on R8, 771mW on R1 and it scales linearly between them. At the same time, 5Ghz wifi rarely goes this high. You can check using an app like wifiscanner to see what frequency your wifi router is using (mine is always around 5.1-5.2 GHz) and on some routers you can configure this. Or you can even disable 5GHz on your wifi if you really must.

    Take your antennas off your goggles only in the house . Especially if flying from the basement . Way less interference and you will get great reception without the antenna. The HD-Zero customer service email I received a couple of weeks ago said that they are producing 100 units a day currently. They started shipping in China on Mar22 and the US orders start shipping around April1, according to their site.
    I ordered mine on Jan10 and I was told I was 800th (approx.) in line. I think pre orders started on Jan6. So that means that 200 orders were placed each day. If that pace continued for the month long sale price of $500, that would mean that approx. 6000 units were sold during that time. Two more months have passed since then. So if the sales dropped to half the sale price time that would mean that 6000 more goggles were sold, but I'm just guessing that number.
    Based on a little bit of real data and A LOT of assumptions and estimations, that would mean that 12,000 units were sold so far since Jan. It would be easy to find out if someone placed an order now and asked how many people were in front of them in line. I don't have $600 right now to find out, though. 😅

      I think for most the hdzero goggles for analog isn't worth it. the optics won't make a huge impression on analog and most don't use the awesome dvr like I do. • @KOrnhOliO1
    @KOrnhOliO1 Год назад +1

    RCSchim did extensive testing with electronic equipment that measures signal strength of antennas. He found that circular polarized antennas do almost NOTHING when they are turned to a horizontal placement, like you use on your goggles. They work great vertically, but are almost worthless laying horizontally. Why don't you use a patch antenna on there instead of the horizontal antenna? You'll get better penetration, because that horizontal antenna, again, is doing virtually nothing. I'll bet you could take it completely off, and get the same reception.😎🤘

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Год назад +1

      Isn’t orientation of the antenna in direct relation to the position of the transmitter? So if the quad is above or below us the antenna position is no longer horizontal but vertical.

    • @KOrnhOliO1
      @KOrnhOliO1 Год назад

      @@NickBurnsFPV No. The way circular polarized antennas work is the antennas pattern of receiving is designed to be used vertically, and when you turn it 90 degrees, like horizontal does, it throws off the reception 90 degrees to the antenna, making it virtually non functional. Hard for me to explain...
      You can find RCSchim's antenna testing video and extensive spreadsheet charts with each test result charted. He has each CP antenna standing vertical and then horizontal and in each case, the horizontal test shows the CP antenna virtually completely loses the signal. It's quite interesting! I spent quite a bit of time studying the charts after he did the tests. I found, for the price, the tall Foxeer pagoda and the red triple feed patch were the best for reception for the buck. When I bought mine, and this is before all of these price increases the world has seen on everything, the Foxeer pagoda was only $9.99 and the red triple feed patch was only about 12 - 14 bucks. I use both all the time for analog and as soon as I first used them I noticed an improvement in picture quality. Course, I refuse to pay close to $150 for Rapidfire. But, my reception with analog is great!
      I'd check out RCSchim's channel for those tests and charts a few years back. Super interesting and informative. 😎🤘

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  20 дней назад

      I think truerc has become a reception leader in the fpv world, but Axii are also very good, they very well could be made by the same company for all we know :) I presume the antenna listed are all for the hdzero side of the goggles? Or no? For my environment I like the antenna setup I have, but if I were to change something it might be how the patch antenna are mounted to the front of the goggle. A more flexible patch connection would allow me to direct each patch either in the direction of flight, or in the direction of poorest reception. So a flexible mesh connection for those patch antenna would be all I would change.

      Although it’s still a patch checkout the specs on the BiQuad 5, it’s crazy wide range.
      Although I prefer the Menace Viper for clarity/range I use both these patches with HDO2/Rapidfire and my Mob7s by facing the BiQuad up and behind me acting as my “Omni”. I also have the NBD linear patch.
      One place I fly is from the office at work, there is a router and I fly from inside around the outside of the building putting upto 4-5 block/brick walls between me and a control panel room with metal and lots of electric…I do get breakup around the backside but feel it got better with linear antenna.
      I’ve not seen any other linear specific antennas other than the classic stick style and these mentioned, but if it’d be worth a video/reviews I’d like to see your experience and hear your thoughts as I really do feel switching to linear goggle antenna made a BiG difference for me.

    Nick, is it worth it to upgrade from fatshark HD02?

      depends on budget and how much you fly. Its a big cost to go to something like the hdzero goggles. yes for me, I did have to pay for the hdzero goggles.

    Newbie here: So you’re saying set the quad up to R8 in betaflight? Bc my meteor75 is set to F4 out of the box. Thought F4 was the best channel based on its factory set up. I can js change it to R8 and get way better reception then F4?

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Год назад

      Yes, R8 is better, but might not be available or legal in all countries. Yes we can change the vtx in betaflight if it support smart audio, which most to all moden day vtx do support and bnf are setup for.

    So the $35 module I bought with my goggles are going to seem cheap? After this video I guess yes? Large learning curve in fpv!

      yea, but if it keeps us flying and enjoying what we have there are no "problems" with that.

      Increase rates will result in faster quad responses.

      @@NickBurnsFPV Hey thanks for the reply and great content. I'm pretty new and haven't really gotten into tuning yet. But I'm about too. I got a regular Meteor75, whish I would have known about the pro version.

      @@zeta7SoloFPV most bnf come with pretty good pid tunes. I would worry about the tune until our flight control and skills have developed.

      If i disregard beginners error of auto search instead of manually matching channels my signal significantly got better by simply moving antena on my quad. I have moblite7 and it has just a small copper wire but it was i kind of C shape. I "unwinded" it to be straight and pulled it up by a notch just to reach top of the frame and that meant a lot!
