    EV9 is a family EV and Rivian is an adventure EV (never advertised as a family SUV). If compare with a Rivian, you must also compare off-road capabilities.

  • @ChrisAngelaPrezzano
    @ChrisAngelaPrezzano 5 месяцев назад +17

    I think it would’ve been more accurate to compare the base model Rivian that starts at 78,000. The battery capacity and range is roughly the same as is the price.

  • @mjhowson2389

    Rivian designed the R1 vehicles to perform off road as well. I think part of their price - and weight - is the suspension and what it can do off road. You sort of glossed over that and treated it like a normal 3-row SUV. Sure, many buyers may not go off road. But they are paying for that performance, and the 0-60 time. I think Kia did a great job, and I’m also curious to see if Rivian can bring the R2 to market on time and budget.

      They're reviewing it from the perspective of an everyday family hauler, not as an off road vehicle. Plenty of people will buy cars that have plenty of off road capabilities but relegate them to mall crawling. See: any Land Rover. I think they can do a second review that focuses on their off road capabilities.

    This is one of the most disingenuous reviews I have seen. They might as well have said that it is an ad for Kia. Comparing a Kia with 280 miles range with a 400 miles range R1S and complaining about the price difference? Guess, what? R1S with 270 mile range is $75,900. R1S offers more power, off-road capability, towing capacity and generous storage space all at the 76k price tag. Kia has Car Play support. I give them that!

      EV9 Light Long Range with 300 miles range goes for just $50K (after Kia/Dealer incentive) these days. As noted in the video, Kia/Dealership incentives almost everywhere due to South Korea's weak currency and it's also buyers' market.

      Also the EV lease credit is for vehicles whose BASE price is under $80k. Which is why all R1S (including this one) have a base price of $75k.

  • @ioman1
    @ioman1 4 месяца назад +6

    Not a fair comparison at all. You compared a top-end Rivian to a mid spec Kia. You failed to mention that the Rivian is not only designed for families, but its built for adventure. It goes off roading, has a built in air compressor, camp mode with a ton of features like auto-leveling where it will level the vehicle if it's on a hill etc. The Kia is purely meant as a family vehicle with very few bells and whistles.

    Why wouldn't you compare apples to apples? The clear theme of your video is, the Rivian costs 28k more. But there a dual motor trim with a standard battery pack that matches the EV9's range and outperforms the Kia. You had a narrative. The Rivian costs more. It's not worth the extra 28k. How about comparing it to the comparable base trim in terms of performance and range that cost the same as the Kia and is eligible for some portion of the tax credit? Oh, because you would lose your, it costs too much agenda...

  • @teddy500U
    @teddy500U 5 месяцев назад +7

    Imo, the comparison isn't right. They are comparing apples with oranges. EV9 is a daily family car. Rivian is known for off toad capabilities. See other reviews. That is what you get for 30k more. Better off road capability, better approach angle, better departure angle, power, towing capacity, etc.. There is a lot to learn from Out of Spec (Kyle) and Auto focus (MKBHD) reviews. This looks like a sales pitch to me, not an honest review

    Info systems are just a learning curve. They all work pretty well. If you want to jump into a new electric ride and think that you are going to know how to use everything in a day or two, let alone a few hours you are wrong. I am no supertech dude but after owning my Niro for 9 months I found out I could change the temp and turn the seats on with voice commands. Smiple stuff, but did not know it. As far as user profiles, seat settings and mirrors for the driver was a 2003 thing in my 300M. I don't know why more cars these days don't...

    The rivian range , HP and interiors and off road capability puts it in a different class than the EV 9 . They should really not be compared just coz they are 3 row SUV’s . Both speak to a different audience and price points along with lifestyle.

    One thing to keep in mind is the top spec EV9 is about the same price as the lowest spec R1S and the Rivian only loses power/performance and range as you go down in spec (though the range is pretty close at the lowest spec to the highest spec Ev9).

  • @headyhere
    @headyhere 2 месяца назад

    Rivian is a more functional vehicle given its people hauling, towing, its adventure tune, and its software capabilities, mileage and acceleration, hence a higher price. Rivian's more towing and larger battery means stiffer suspension tuning and hence a stiffer ride.
    EV9 is also beautiful and well tuned for what it is capable of.
    I guess it all depends on what your priorities are.

    Thanks for this review. I'm actually considering my first EV and I've narrowed my choices down to these 2. While I realize this comparison isn't exactly apples to apples, there aren't too many other choices for a 3rd row ev out there. Plus the whole egg-shape aesthetic as mentioned.. 🤢 Although the trims could have been closer, I agree with the reviews here. Personally I DO find it hard to justify the 100k with all that interior plastic. Even though the rivian does have smoking hot seats. The ev9 is a bit more appealing - for the price. I could find one used for right around 50k. Used rivians are harder to come by and kinda complicated to purchase and still about 75k for the "older" ones.
    Again I have no natural bias toward either one other than the research I've done to aid in my decision. A decent review imho

    I looked at buying an EV9 prior to ordering an R1S. The captains chairs is a forced option on most trims on the Kia- if you have a lot of kids that’s not going to work. I’ll take the bench row thanks. Now if all those seats are full, where do I put the stroller, suitcases, bags, a cooler? The Kia won’t work. You can spec the r1s remarkably close to an EV9. I ordered a dual standard. It has almost as much storage as the full-size expedition max. It can also tow, offroad and somehow the Kia is only about as efficient?? How does that work. I was shocked how small the EV9 is when I went to look at them. The rear seats feel claustrophobic compared to the R1S. Head room? I felt like I was stuffed in an enclosed box back there. In the R1S it was light and airy and I was sitting straight up and down, not hunched or leaning like the Kia. This video definitely seemed biased in a big way. It touched on the very few things the EV9 does comparatively well, focused on the *optional* price difference and spoke little to no words on the numerous things the Rivian can do that the Kia just plain can’t. When you started talking to people about a $70k+ car and then tell them it’s a Kia, you lost them. You show them a Rivian for the same money and they’re interested. The configurations available in the Kia aren’t actually family friendly. Either lose a seat to make the back seat even remotely bearable, or take a much lower trim without any of the nice features. The Kia is neither practical or realistic as an actual 3 row SUV. Sure, if you’ve only got 2 kids and don’t actually use the third row except for occasional kids friends or folded down for cargo space, it’s fine. For a family that actually needs to use the 3rd row everyday? It’s not an option, unfortunately.

  • @Aegisx5
    @Aegisx5 4 месяца назад

    The Rivian is way better. They have a version that atarts at leas than the EV9, that you failed to test. That version comes with an air suspension tha raises up to 15 inches of ground clearance. Built in air compressor and camp speaker. Huge front trunk with way more storage. Kia charging at Tesla superchargers maxes at 85kWh, Rivian 220kWh - HUGE gamechanger for road trippers. The R1S has a better screen and regular meaningful software updates similar to Tesla. The app is outstanding and works, the opposite if Kia. Overall there's just no question... the Kia is being discounted by $10K because that's what it's worth, about 20% less than a base Rivian.

      Most people will go with a base EV9 cause it's a better value as it's a bigger car if you need that space. Rivians are nice but to me as much as I like the R1S, it's the upcoming R2 what will be a better car overall. Not sure if you watched the video but they said the difference on price isn't worth it which is around $25K-$30K. If I could get an EV9 GT-line for $60K after all rebates and discounts I would be all over it right now. Until then I could wait for either a used one or when those kind of deals are available.
