Mama always said don't knock it till ya try it! Check out this SUPER simple recipe for delicious pickled eggs! I know, I know...you say pickled wha??? Yep, you heard me right...pickled EGGS!
I turned my nose up to pickled eggs my whole life until I came across this recipe while researching ways to preserve eggs. Did you know that pickled eggs will safely keep in your fridge for up to 4 months?! That's insane!
When your girls are laying regularly and you have eggs coming out of your ears...this is a fun, easy way to preserve them so you can enjoy them all throughout the year!
Pickled eggs go perfectly with so many dishes. My favorite is grating them over a fresh salad or mixed into my tuna salad....mmmkay!
There are so many recipes for different flavored pickled eggs; dill pickled eggs, sweet & spicy, turmeric pickled eggs and more! Have fun with it and trust me...I know "pickled eggs" sounds funky, but they are amazzzzing! I was pleasantly surprised when I learned how delicious they are.
I'm constantly making pickled eggs, that's why in today's video I doubled my recipe for a 1/2 gallon off pickled eggs! That's what I'm talking about!
    See below for the recipe!
I hope you enjoy the video and don't forget to subscribe to our channel and hit that bell to be notified when our videos go live! Happy pickling! :)
    Turmeric pickled egg recipe:
1 clean 1/2 gallon mason jar
    1 clean funnel
    2 dozen boiled eggs
    2-3 fresh peeled garlic cloves
    1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp crushed red peppers (optional)
    Brine:
    4 cups apple cider vinegar
    1 cup water
1/2 cup salt (not table salt)
So many of you have asked for my tuna salad recipe :) It's nothin' fancy-just how my Mama taught me to make it! So here it is, enjoy!
    2 cans of tuna
    Spoonful or 2 of mayo
    Spoonful of mustard
    Spoonful of pickle relish
About 1/3 cup of diced onions
    2 grated pickled eggs :)
I like to sprinkle a lil pepper
Then mix it up really good and add more of any ingredient as desired. Most times I have to add a bit more mayo :)

You can also add salt to your eggs while you're boiling them and then roll them in your hands and the shells will fall off. I watched an egg peeling contest on TV and that's what they used. It works.

Super easy way to peel eggs.
Boil them in a pot. When cooked pour out the water. Now the pot has only eggs inside. Put the lid on the pot and shake the pot vigourously to crack all the egg shells. Now take lid off. Add tap water to cool eggs down and peel the eggs. The cooling of the eggs make them shrink and water gets inside between the egg and the shell and makes it super easy to peel. Voilá!

I agree with this but I put the egg in a drinking glass, easier to handle the a pot I think

Great video! The best part is at the end, when you show us a sample of the final product and sliced it in half to show us what the inside looks like. The extra advise about being cautious on not to get them on your clothing is also a plus. You wouldn't believe how most forget this key point in their food videos.

I make pickled Eggs. I will try your recipe next. The most recent eggs I add leftover Jalapeño Peppers in boy was it ever good 😊
I'm using your salt, vinegar, and oil recipe for dehydrating cucumbers. I made a batch of just cucumbers and zucchini to make into powder.
I am feasting on the leftover cucumbers I didn't have room for in the dehydrator. If i had harvested dill i would have sprinkled some on the cucumbers.
When I was a child my mom made vinegar and water with salt and pepper as a side dish. We loved it.😊

I dumped some boiled eggs in a jar of pickle juice that used to contain kosher dill pickles. Tried after three days. Not very good. Too strong. But I made egg salad with potatoes using those eggs. I have struggled to make a decent potato salad for years with no success. Your pickled egg recipe saved the day. Best egg/potato salad I ever ate. I never imagined I would match my Mom's potato salad but it did. Thanks for your faithfulness.

I also only recently discovered the joy of pickled eggs. I had a girlfriend when I was a child that loved them from our corner store, but they were displayed next to the pickled pigs feet and I never had the nerve. I thought I would give them a try after eating my hard boiled eggs with a drizzle of balsamic (white Meyer lemon flavor. yum). I have been pickling them in the pickle juice left over from (can you guess) pickles. I made your recipe and found it WAY WAY too salty. I like the turmeric in it but will have to dilute it much more. Thanks for getting me started.

After eggs sit for minute in ice water just give them a couple cracks on top and bottom and put them in cool or room temp water and let them soak for 10 20 minutes or hour and they peel perfectly wether month old or picked that morning because the water gets between egg and membrane..
I like to can them so you get plenty that lasts.
Oh you can use table salt just use the plain without the added iodine..
A little trivia all salt is really sea salt lol

Love this recipe! I’ve seen pickled eggs in the store before but like you I also never felt compelled to try them until today when you said, “If you like vinegary, salt foods” that’s me! Eggs were on my mind today because of a YT video I watched with my granddaughter. A chef in Thailand took 72 giant duck eggs then boiled, peeled and FRIED them in preparation for a delicious looking recipe! So that got me thinking about a friend who said she LOVES the pickled eggs her friend makes and shares with her. I now have access to a lot of fresh free-range chicken eggs from my 97 yr old client who gets them from a friend. So now I’m going to create a cooking activity for my client Jim, who I’m sure will love to help with AND eat them too! Thanks for the video!

Hi i am from Germany, we have a Holliday today and i thought of dooing some pickeld eggs. I liked your Vid, You, the Light and the way you describe. But help me what is the or a brine and how did you made it ?

    • @HomeFreeAlaska
      @HomeFreeAlaska  5 лет назад +2

Reiner Zufall hi! The brine is what you fill the jar up with after you’ve filled the jar with your eggs :) The brine is very easy to make! I put the full recipe in the description of the video but the brine is simply: 4 cups of apple cider vinegar, 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of salt (not table salt, you want like a sea salt or canning salt etc). Then just heat your brine on the stove (no need to boil) and ladle it over your eggs, making sure your eggs are submerged completely. I hope that helps, thank you for watching my video and for your kind words! Ah Germany?! I hope to be able to see Germany one day! ☺️

      2 cans of tuna
      Spoonful or 2 of mayo
      Spoonful of mustard
      Spoonful of pickle relish
About 1/3 cup of diced onions
      2 grated pickled eggs :)

Hi there I tried this recipe exactly and I have to say I love your hack of putting in cold water then back in the hot water. It worked perfectly! I just have to say though my eggs seem really salty? I used pickling salt do think that is why? I did everything else exactly per your recipe.

    • @HomeFreeAlaska
      @HomeFreeAlaska  4 года назад

Ms.Bug hi there! I have heard that pickling salt is saltier than regular salt. I don’t know if that’s true or not but I googled it, and everything I read says that it does taste saltier than regular salt because there’s more salt in a tsp of pickling salt than in a tsp of say sea salt. So next time, maybe try regular salt or sea salt and see if you like that better. Because my eggs don’t taste too salty at all...so that must be it! ☺️
