- In this video story and soundtrack cover of Klaes Ashford's death scene, I rearranged the two wonderful tracks 'The Ocean' and 'When I Sail' from The Expanse Composer Clinton Shorter to pay tribute to one of my favourite characters of the show so far.
He definitely earned a departure with tympani and trumpets! Be aware that the end of the video might get emotional...

I thought he was going to be the antagonist when he came on the scene. How wrong i was, an excellent charector . I was genuinely sad at the end of season 4.

From what I heard in the books he's much more of at out and out villain but in this he's a much more complex and likable guy. Even when I don't agree with him I never think he's being stupid or evil he's doing what he thinks is right in that situation.
Having now read the book, i agree . Hes portayed as fairly crappy bloke in the books.

Such a beautiful cover, I wish more people saw this, it deserves more recognition. When I hear this, I feel a mix of happiness and sadness, our moments with Ashford, and his last breath. This shall not be forgotten, as I shall never forget Klaes Ashford, never forget him and Camina Drummer singing together.

Klaes Ashford was one of the best characters of the show, both good and evil.

I‘m always trying to somehow blend the music creation with the video edits in a halfway cinematic way. Never really happy with the outcome, so I regularly try something different. But hopefully it’s getting better in time.

What exactly do you mean by "private" original song? The two official tracks from Clinton Shorter, on which my cover is based off, I linked in the description. Everything around and in between, apart from the voice lines of course, is just my own addition to glue these tracks together.
If your looking for the shanty, that is sung by Drummer and Ashford, there is no official audio record of this but what you get in the series.

Having just finished the 3rd book i can say his charector in the show is far better than in the book.
Haven't read the books myself (yet!), but from what I heard from The Expanse book readers, what you say is very true.
At least in regard to being a far more likeable person in the series; in the end!
@@HausbarMusic The book character is very different, which isn't necessarily bad, but he's also much less developed and feels a bit empty (book 4 has this issue as well). It's one of the aspects I think the show greatly improved on.

Hey there!
Unfortunately there is no such thing as a complete music sheet for this track. I put this piece together from Clinton Shorters "The Ocean" and "When I sail" and some own ideas. So, as usual the piano notation that I wrote down by ear comes in different fragments that I used as a guideline for myself.
I can put my sheets for The Ocean and When I Sail online for you if thats what you'd like. If you want the whole piece as one single notation I'd have to put the pieces together and go looking if a made some notes on what I added myself. Can't promise I wrote everything down.
Just a bit busy at the moment because I'm making two new The Expanse videos right now. But I'd like to help, so just tell me what you're after.

@@GenerationShows Hey, I already l looked into it and it wasn't a big hassle to put the parts together. I named the diiferent parts in the notation so you can identify the When I sail parts immediately. The only thing that's missing is a small part in between The Ocean and the second part of When I sail because I never wrote that down, but it shouldn't be a problem to recreate it by watching the video.

Ashford was easily my favourite character
I feel like The Expanse really changed Sci-Fi forever, and while It may be gone(at least for now)
I think it’s influence on Science Fiction in both TV, and Movies will not go unnoticed.

Great work. Never understood the need for multiple keyboards in a studio for a solo artist though (I'm a strings player so forgive my ignorance)
Your ignorance is forgiven! 😂 (because you‘re partly right... 😉 ) Most things could be done with just one keyboard if you play mostly with virtual instruments. But unlike your strings, they‘re not that portable and if you have different physical setups (like in my last video) it becomes pretty annoying to reposition everything. Then there are obviously different capabilities of the different boards. Key quality, synth/rompler, master keyboard. But basically you’re right, it’s possible with a single one! 👍🏻

I'm very sorry but I don't think I'm up for some kind of collaboration. My skills are super basic and I'm happy when I manage to get even half of what I planned into a video. The other thing is, that I really don't understand a thing about rap. It's simply not my kind of music. Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate every kind of music style and I watched your Heart of Society video, it's dope (especially the edit!), but I have to accept that I just don't have a feel for that kind of thing!
So I hope you don't get me wrong, I just have a lot to learn until I have something that's worth calling a workflow, until I can work with other people. Right now I really wouldn't know how!
But I'm sure, looking at your videos, you could manage to bring your idea to life yourself (if you don't want to wait until I widened my horizon, that is! 😅).

@@HausbarMusic Yeah, it's probably the best slab digital piano alongside the VPC1 - which I own. I still prefer my upright, but it's a great alternative with the benefit of practicing 24/7 without noise.
When I was about to buy a new digital piano, the VPC1 was really tempting. In the end I decided for the MP because I liked the key action just a little bit more but mostly because I wanted to be able to just sit down and play without starting a PC and vsti‘s and stuff. Sadly I don‘t own an acoustic piano and there is no room in my flat anyway.
So yeah, VPC1 plus an acoustic seems like a perfect treat! Happy for you! 👍🏻

@@HausbarMusic Yeah, I chose the VPC1 because I am used to/prefer a heavier acoustic action, and the MP11 felt a little light to me. I really like how it has a longer pivot point though, with less weight variance playing closer to the fallboard - I wish the VPC1 had that. I also do a lot of improvs where something great may come out but I don't remember the notes afterwards, so having it connected to a comp recording midi is really useful. Much easier than spending time doing it by ear later. Anyway, I'd be really happy with either because they are both superb - cheers
