You are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. Your next stop, the Twilight Zone! " All aboard"! The night train is the only means of travel in and out of the twilight zone. It is not so much a place as it is a time. For every passenger the experience is different. Tonight many will feel the need to sleep but before they do....the Night Train may have something special instore for it's passengers! "Excuse me....Mr. Conductor"? "What stop is up next"? " The town is called 'Anywheresville' mam". "What kind of name is that for a town..... I've never heard of it"! "It's everything and anything for everyone mam". " What do you mean by that"?! ....." Mam....if you get off at Anywheresville you can just make a wish upon stepping off the Night Train and it will be so". In this episode everyone on this train wants to just 😴 But imagine if you will, a place where you can grow up again. A place where you can change your life as you know it. Anything is now possible if you step off! But be warned..... there's no coming back. So if sleep is all you need then I suggest you close your eyes and by pass the next stop. This stop is a place that also exists in your dreams....or a Night Train going anywhere....in the twilight zone.
Hey it’s that crazy bike riding guy from London , just finished cycling this route with you. Great quality video again and beautiful vistas . Hey I’m loving this exercise regime !!
Yay, a new video! Even though it's a familiar route by now, each video has its own weather, ambient light, and seasonal changes--always an adventure! Thank you also for identifying all the tunnels and speed limits and so on. I keep looking for where the "old" roadbed went before all the tunnels were built, too. Did old steam trains run this route too?
1854? WOW! That was at the point where the first railway in Norway between Oslo and Eidsvoll had been running for just one year. Your great Grandfather was a true explorer who dared to leave everything behind in search of better times!
Ah, the morning coffee run to Myrdal. I Iook forward to the beauty of the increasingly familiar ride. This is the first time I noticed just how close the houses above the Bergen tunnel entrance are to the "hole". I wonder if those houses got a bit rattled when the bore came through. They must have felt it under there. The pink sunrise reflecting on the water - gorgeous!
"I've named every single tunnel and snowshed in this video with length." And I'm kinda amazed that every tunnel and snowshed HAS a name. Some of the bigger ones, such al Ulriken, Ok, but every little bitty one? I was thinking along the lines of "Tunnel Bergenbannen 37-B" or some such.
hey rcg, this looks like a wes anderson film! its so beautiful to watch. i usually get super stressed studying for exams, so watching these videos while studying helps me calm down. keep doing what youre doing!
everyone, this is a therapy. a rare kind of neurotherapy. the only thing that keeps me crying is not my personal problems anymore, but knowing i'll never get a chance to see it with my naked eyes, this is why it makes me cry with suffering. and video, info and all the other stuff incredibly put together. such a beautiful country.

Just want to say. I Really love this videos. I just found your channel like 10 minutes ago and i already know its going to be a wild ride on this channel. Literally, lol. But seriously thanks. Im probably, most likely gonna play this whenever im studying or drawing. Just thank you. I really love your channel
So ive been watching this on my laptop, zero adds because of addblocking installed. Thought id put it on the telly, every 5 mins there are adverts. I dunno how people put up with them? if every vid was like that, i would not bother with youtube. So linked laptop to tv, play it that way. Thats for this anyway, great quality, beats that 1080p stuff.
With every passing video that you do gets more and more pleasing to watch. Especially listing the tunnel names as you pass through them. This for me was a very unique ride. A ride with RailCowGirl as my tour guide. Thanks RCG this made my day brighter.
What a spectacular sunrise, the pink in the sky and on the water; probably much better in person!! Do you ever want to open it up to 160 km/h in that new tunnel? Maybe you do, i just can't tell. Would probably put you ahead of schedule for the next stop but you could delay your departure there until you're back on schedule. What a terrific way to see Norway, something i wish i could do in person. This is the next best thing. Thank you so much for taking us along for the journey.
British diplomat R. H. Bruce Lockhart in 1918 ~ p195 All that remains in my mind is the memory of the railway journey from Christiania to Bergen. (sic) The scenery, wilder, more picturesque than the Canadian Rockies, provided the proper background for my own melancholy. The wild stretches of moor, the lofty peaks and tortuous ravines, the lochs and turbulent trout-streams, above all, the firs and the birches, their leaves golden with the first tints of autumn, reminded me of Scotland. At Bergen I met Wardrop, who was to take my place in Moscow. ... ~ p212- The next morning we made the railway trip-the most wonderful in the world-from Bergen to Christiania. It was not to my mind so impressive in winter as in the autumn.
Thanks for posting these great trips. As a model railroader, the scenery is instructive--even the tunnels. As an old man trying to stay fit in the winter, I put the screen in front of my exercise bike and ride several miles a day--very inspiring!
Hey RCG, this cabride is amazing. the pink colours are very beautiful, before and after Vaksdal. Also, the snow and the "ice curtains"on the rock walls are very nice to see. Thank you for putting info on stations and tunnels into this one. Really helpful. Take care.
Start off straight into Ulriken, how much time does it save ? And the long fjord, from Vaksdal north ? It's name is ? So beautiful and I am assuming, so deep.
A very pretty run, and an excellent video. Having the names of the the tunnels and snow sheds is fun. I just wish I could hear the auto-announcer a bit better saying the names of the stations so I could understand how to pronounce them.
We just discovered your channel with this video. We’re on the couch watching this and can’t look away. So awesome. I had no idea I needed this in my life. Thank you for being the one to introduce it to me. One thing I wonder is how do you decide when to blow the horn?
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much. Look for the yellow diamond shaped signs. With a horizontal line = level crossing. A vertical line = station or halt. Both = well, both.

Good Morning RailCowGirl Lovely Morning Video and I Hope You've Had Your Coffees ☕ I Enjoyed All The Names and How Long Each Tunnel Is. Your Awesome 🌺❤ And How Long Was Your Wait To Return?
Good morning! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Sure had my coffee. It's the first thing every morning 😃I can not function without it :p The return from Myrdal? It's just back to Voss :D
very relaxing video. :D Dream of every photographer, videographer. :D I am only one who have feeling that train is going all time up in to the mountain. :D Interesting would be know elevation as well. :)
English is my third language, and although I'm confident my written English is better than that of 70% of native speakers and I watch films/videos or news in English every day, I'm still wondering how to pronounce words when trying to speak myself...
Reddman, I do not speak Norwegian, but I've watched these videos enough that I've picked up a few things. "j" is pronounced like English "y" (duh, it's a Scandinavian language), and å is pronounced like English "o". Flåm=Flom. I'm still not sure about ø and have no idea about æ, sorry.
I have to laugh...you put "piggy" faces on those two people at the end. Beautiful country side. I want to come over and ride this sometime this summer. Can you suggest the best time of year? I also understand that Norway is a great place to see the Northern Lights. I have seen the lights on videos, but I want to see them live. Thanks for the great videos.
If the Auroroa borealis (northern lights) are the goal of the trip, then make sure you come here during winter. The further north you go the bigger the chances are. During summer you won’t be able to see the northern lights as it never gets dark :)
Lovely to see these videos, since we can’t travel due to the pandemic. Thanks, RailCowGirl! We traveled Oslo-Bergen-Myrdal-Flåm-Myrdal-Oslo in 1989. One of the most spectacular rail lines in the world! Thanks for helping us to re-live the trip. (Are there many more tunnels now than in 1989? I don’t remember so many.)
Well after getting in from Voss and shutting down that cab then heading the other end to get that cab set up for your run east, do hope you have a chance in the insuing hour to get into the station for a shot break before departure. As always, thank you so much for these videos of Norway. Really enjoyed the nice, leisurely run east from Voss as you paced yourself so you would not pass any request stop too soon. So it looks like your day when you filmed this was Voss - Bergen, Bergen - Myrdal then ended with Myrdal - Voss which would put you close to your hours of service.
Yes :) Had almost a good hour. Usually this train should be running double set. In that case I would have to go out into the yard in Bergen to get the other train set and couple them. Then it's hardly even time to go to the bathroom before you're heading off again.
We are about 150 females driving trains in Norway. In total there are about 2000 train drivers in Norway. So yes... it's because I'm a woman. We know that Russia just opened up for women to become train drivers :) which was about time :D
@@RailCowGirl thank! ) You have very good working conditions for railway workers in Norway. And the views from the driver's cab are second only to Switzerland in beauty. Yes, in Europe, a woman driver is a common thing. In Russia they are allowed to operate passenger rolling stock similar to the European one. Only our locomotive crew usually consists of two people. Only men are still involved in the management of electric and diesel locomotives, many of which are still Soviet-made.
Beautiful ride, this one. The lighting is perfect for the snow, not too bright, and all the lovely details of this journey are perfectly captured by the camera. The tunnel information is also very welcome. This is probably RailCowGirl's best daytime ride so far.
So how cold was it? 🤔 I’ve really never seen you actually mention the temperature in the videos I’ve watched so far, but when you hear that crunch crunch when you are walking you can tell it’s pretty frigid! Since I’m in the USA just let me know if it’s C or F. 😉
I think you maybe have a “dry” cold there so even though it’s that cold it doesn’t hurt like a “wet” cold. We have wet cold in Louisiana in USA & it really hurts to be out in it. We had a week long deep freeze here 2 was ago & it basically stopped everything. So much humidity here. Love your videos. 😊
In bergen and all the way to Voss you have a wet cold, but at Voss it's more a dry cold as long as the lake is covered with ice :) Ice makes things better. I could never ever imagine how this would feel in Louisiana. I know how humid it can be there during the summer, making everything stick to your skin ;) Remember the awesome food from The Shed just off of I10 and 57 :D
Thanks for posting these videos! To be honest, I'm kinda jealous of all the great views you get to see while doing your job, it definitely makes me want to come visit Norway one day
Great vid again RCG. Thanks for the details. Perhaps two glitches, one at the series of 5 tunnels upfront Vaksdal. Nr 2 seems to have the wrong length. Also the tunnel just before Upsete which says 1840 m. Perhaps should be 184 or something.
@@RailCowGirl Just checked again, first one is at 23:01, Bogelia hvelv 2 which is more like 10 or 20 m instead of 109. Second one at 1:55:58, Upsdete which is definitely not 1843 m, more later likely around 200. Anyway, it's good to again realise all the effort which went into building all these tunnels
Frank, is partly right, the tunnel before Upsete is not 1843 m long. On the video you spent about 23s through the tunnel, so if it was 1843m you drove at about 300 km/h. Measurement in maps (norgeskartet.no) says about 450m. But excellent video anyhow !
You know you are really into trains when you are knowing more of the Bergen line and its places (and thanks to another channel, 70% of Netherland lines) more than the place your are actually living in.
What happens at Myrdal? Do you take your train back to Bergen or does it continue on toward Oslo? I heard the announcement that Myrdal was the final stop. Does your train wait for the morning train from Flam? Love this video.
I see the offending snow-pile that was scolded in your previous video is still there by the tracks 🤔! Naughty maintenance crews 😂🇬🇧 By the way, where do the station staff get those cool RCG masks? 😂😂😂 (P.s. I know they're not real 😁)
Those reflective Cowheaded people are a hoot. Thanks so much for your most entertaining videos. You might be surprised at how many miles I've ridden along with you. Thanks again, from South Texas.
The best shot is at Vaksdal station, as the fjord reflects the sunrise. RCG, you get to revel in this beauty, AND get paid for it??!! Some people have all the luck....
True. The power was off, until it came back on. They’re fixing the water pipes at our house after what happened to the freezing weather. By the way, we are doing very well. The weather was back to normal.
now i know for sure that voss has big cable cars leaving the station and going up the mountain on big heavy cables. i just saw a car leave the station when you pulled in under that big tower in the station by the hotel .
I found that to get the full sense of the video one will need a good sound system to get the rumbles of the train and the sound of the horn. Have you tried using a binaural microphone to record the sound RCG?
looking at the snow and the cold air you have the roads must be very scary to drive with ice and snow on them. they are very high in some places and it looks like you can slide over the side easy.
Thank you, RCG, for sharing your experience with us! I love it when you display a commentary to add to the ride. And I don't know how often you do, but I recall the time you got off the train and actually walked the tunnel you were in. It is like you take us on an adventure! Your steed may not be a horse, but you are a Cow Girl who rides the Rails. :)
@@RailCowGirl I just found your Q & A where you chatted with your viewers. I am still watching it, at the moment. I would have had my own questions to ask. Maybe next time. :)
Your videos are awesome! Thank you for sharing Norway in this fabulous way. My family emigrated from Norway back in 1856 settling in Minnesota from the Hallingdal region. On those routes you travel near Torpo I try to imagine the landscape as it was once seen thru my ancestor's eyes. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.
This leisurely stroll up to Myrdal is perfect for taking in the stunning colours and scenery. Mesmerising. Perhaps a strange observation on my part, but the VY livery blends in very well in these conditions! One of my absolute favourite RCG videos. Thank you!
A wonderful video as always. It’s all there: beautiful scenery, excellent photography and the best train driver ever! Thanks so much for another exciting journey!
Thank you so much for all your hard work on all your videos, it is very much appreciated!!! I have always wanted to visit Norway and your videos continue to make that an absolute must!! Thank you again so much!!!
I love the little white house on the left that you see looking over the track starting at 1:20. I would like to live there and I would wave good morning to you in the train everyday when you passed by :-)
Dear RCG! Not only another stunning video with more improvements, but this time I was able to read the intro without pausing or rewinding, and had 3 seconds to spare! Great job! Thanks a million!
Dear Railcowgirl, a snow-covered landscape in the dull morning light is a beautiful sight, at least at the beginning of the journey. The blue sky with a lot of sun fits better in the afternoon.
The now green trains read "vy". Wikipedia writes that the railway company "vy" should mean "outlook, distant view". Is the "vy" a verb, adjective or just a shortcut of something?
Thanks for the trip! It was somewhat unexpected to learn at the start that some trains have "Vossebanen" written on their carriages (rather than a more general "Bergensbanen" inscription).
@@knife-wieldingspidergod5059 I checked mileage somethingblike 4,900 miles from Louisiana, 11 hour flight. A long way for these old bones. It would be a wonderful trip though

Yes :) Had almost a good hour. Usually this train should be running double set. In that case I would have to go out into the yard in Bergen to get the other train set and couple them. Then it's hardly even time to go to the bathroom before you're heading off again.
Is that the name Railcowgirl because you're a girl? Do many girls / women work as train drivers in Norway?
Glad you enjoyed it!
💛 Wonderful Cabview 💛

🧡 Greetings from the French Riviera in 4K 🧡
Thank you
So how cold was it?
And if I were younger I would to live in Norway. 🥰
In bergen and all the way to Voss you have a wet cold, but at Voss it's more a dry cold as long as the lake is covered with ice :) Ice makes things better.
I could never ever imagine how this would feel in Louisiana. I know how humid it can be there during the summer, making everything stick to your skin ;)
Remember the awesome food from The Shed just off of I10 and 57 :D
Thanks for posting these videos! To be honest, I'm kinda jealous of all the great views you get to see while doing your job, it definitely makes me want to come visit Norway one day
Glad you like them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great vid again RCG. Thanks for the details. Perhaps two glitches, one at the series of 5 tunnels upfront Vaksdal. Nr 2 seems to have the wrong length. Also the tunnel just before Upsete which says 1840 m. Perhaps should be 184 or something.
Numbers in the book for Upsete says 1843m.
And I’m not sure which one before Vaksdal you’re referring to 😃
@@RailCowGirl Just checked again, first one is at 23:01, Bogelia hvelv 2 which is more like 10 or 20 m instead of 109.
Haha, cool! Thanks for watching!
What happens at Myrdal? Do you take your train back to Bergen or does it continue on toward Oslo? I heard the announcement that Myrdal was the final stop. Does your train wait for the morning train from Flam? Love this video.
39:00
As always, stunning scenery, enhanced by the low-angle sunlight - mostly from behind, and the absence of the haze that can develop later in the day.
Glad you liked it ❤️❤️
yay another epic video, the snow there just looks outstanding & that sunrise just looked breath taking, keep up the great work & stay safe out there.
Thank you very much! ❤️❤️❤️
I see the offending snow-pile that was scolded in your previous video is still there by the tracks 🤔! Naughty maintenance crews 😂🇬🇧
By the way, where do the station staff get those cool RCG masks? 😂😂😂
(P.s. I know they're not real 😁)
LOL! They buy them in my shop, lol :P
Before I pass my ambition is travel Norway 🇳🇴 by train in the winter. Magical.
Those reflective Cowheaded people are a hoot. Thanks so much for your most entertaining videos. You might be surprised at how many miles I've ridden along with you. Thanks again, from South Texas.
Glad you like them! Thanks!
The best shot is at Vaksdal station, as the fjord reflects the sunrise. RCG, you get to revel in this beauty, AND get paid for it??!! Some people have all the luck....
Yep, I do! Glad you enjoyed the video!
My area, like Houston, TX, USA had snow last week prior to Valentine’s Day. And yes, it was freezing as well.
We saw it on the news, totally crazy. How are you guys doing now? Power and everything was suffering badly :(
The video was improved!
The brightness adjustment right after leaving the tunnel is very natural compared to the previous video!
And....how did you
Previous video? like the one before this? or the ones I did with GoPro?
Fantastic freezing Ride! Greetings from sunny Portugal!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it! :D It was when i did the "secret room in the Finse tunnel" :D there are indeed so many awesome places around :D
@@RailCowGirl I just found your Q & A where you chatted with your viewers. I am still watching it, at the moment. I would have had my own questions to ask. Maybe next time. :)
The visual is mesmerizing and the audio is nice... and then you stabbed me in the ear with the horn!
Thanks for sharing! Glad you enjoyed the video!
All your videos are always stunningly beautiful ❤️❤️😃
Thank you so much!!
This probably the closest I'll ever get to Norway 🥰♥️🙏 Thank you!!!!🇺🇲
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice cabview!! Warm greetings from Brazil
Glad you like it!
Prekrásne natočené video 😃😃😃😃.
Perfektné super 😃😃😃.
Srdečne pozdravujem zo Slovenska 😃😃😃😃.
This leisurely stroll up to Myrdal is perfect for taking in the stunning colours and scenery. Mesmerising.
Perhaps a strange observation on my part, but the VY livery blends in very well in these conditions!
One of my absolute favourite RCG videos. Thank you!
Happy to hear that, thank you 😃❤️
A wonderful video as always. It’s all there: beautiful scenery, excellent photography and the best train driver ever! Thanks so much for another exciting journey!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
That's soo beautiful. It just made my day! Cheers RCG!
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for all your hard work on all your videos, it is very much appreciated!!! I have always wanted to visit Norway and your videos continue to make that an absolute must!! Thank you again so much!!!
Thank you!
I love the little white house on the left that you see looking over the track starting at 1:20. I would like to live there and I would wave good morning to you in the train everyday when you passed by :-)
That would be cool! I thin there house next to it is for sale :D
Hello railcowgirl🍮the views are Beautiful thank you so much🚄
Thank you too! ❤️
Dear RCG! Not only another stunning video with more improvements, but this time I was able to read the intro without pausing or rewinding, and had 3 seconds to spare! Great job! Thanks a million!
Yay, thanks, happy to hear that! :D
Dear Railcowgirl,
a snow-covered landscape in the dull morning light
is a beautiful sight, at least at the beginning of the journey.
The blue sky with a lot of sun fits better in the afternoon.
The now green trains read "vy". Wikipedia writes that the railway company "vy" should mean "outlook, distant view". Is the "vy" a verb, adjective or just a shortcut of something?
You can read a bit about it here -> www.vy.no/en/the-vy-group/about-us
If the folks living in the houses at 11:45 weren't awake, they will be now lol
1:10:45 (just to save my position)
@@therosijedha fair enough lol
Hopefully they're used to it :P
Very beautiful 😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Nok en fantastisk tur fra Bergensbanen
Tusen takk! Hyggelig å høre!
Breathtaking as usual. Thank you
Thank you too! ❤️
cold temps but awesome views - thanks RCG for another incredible video 😊 👍
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼❤️❤️
Thanks for the trip! It was somewhat unexpected to learn at the start that some trains have "Vossebanen" written on their carriages (rather than a more general "Bergensbanen" inscription).
It's because they're used on the Vossbanen mostly :)
I love the feeling of the cold air in the winter morning.
And the beautiful scenery. Thank you very much!
Cold winter mornings are totally ok :D Cold and wet winter mornings, not so fun :p
I love that you share these videos, I really enjoy the scenery. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoy it!
The pink hue from the clouds almost makes it look like your filming in black and white.
With the contrasting snow and everything, it sure does :D
I'd love a full video from Bergen to Oslo
Thanks for the suggestion.
I second that, but the reverse direction would be better, because the best would come at the end!
From Louisiana too, a week of cold is enough for me, but Norway is sure beautiful. Would love to visit this cold country. Live the videos. Thanks 😊
You should! :D❤️
@@RailCowGirl I might someday, long way from Louisiana to Norway 😊
@@joeannperschall7226 But not as far as from California.
@@knife-wieldingspidergod5059 I checked mileage somethingblike 4,900 miles from Louisiana, 11 hour flight. A long way for these old bones. It would be a wonderful trip though
What percentage of the Norwegian population speak English ....as an approximate guess?
Well, almost everyone should have some level of english as it is basically the B language.
