the problem started at 1:38 when they decided to change the first 3 album's songs 1/2 tune up to match with the tuning of "mesmerize & hypnotize"(Daron's idea?). Other bands just change the guitar and bass on stage to play songs with different tuning, but SOAD made it wrong from 2005 to 2011. So Serj began to pressure his vocal chords to reach the notes from the songs, that originally were recording between his "safe vocal range". After 2004-2005, the sang high, high and the screaming mixed voice was gotten lost across the time. Then we get a totally nasal voice. Maybe the things that i am talking about are ridiculous or nonsense, but Serj's Voice was strong and powerfull (and ellegant when he sans in whisper mode too) until 2003. after that year it's not SOAD for me anymore ;C sorry for mi shitty english xD
Half step up wouldn't be that insane of a change. His vocal technique was really good naturally, what he had problems with is pushing too much and lack of breathing technique. Also smoking.
He stop drugs, that's what happen, from 2005 to 2012 he couldn't scream the same way, i did alot of drugs, and that's exactly what drugs do to my lung in a long therm
Respiratory therapist here. Almost nothing you said is true. Your vocal cords sound have absolutely nothing to do with your lungs. Aside from the fact that air from your lungs goes thru the vocal cords during exhalation, but that has nothing to do with the changing of a voice. Damage to the vocal cords themselves will result in a change to the sound of a voice. Also, stopping drugs does not change the sound of your voice. DOING drugs will change the sound of your voice in the long run (smoking, cigarettes, cocaine).
the pandemic took a toll on serj's health and his voice
He sings the notes rather than screaming them, and does so in a manner that will preserve his voice rather than blowing it out.
it seems like serj is now able to hit the notes more precisely, but does that without the old passion and dedication
Yeah id say hes e better singer now but hes just not very thrilled to sing, especially with system
2002 his voice started to change, change my mind.
Just listen to the somewhere between the sacred silence in 2002 again.
He still got it

Thank you for your kind words!
Something happen between 2005 - 2011 🤔
some people's voice gets higher pitched or in serj's case more nasal as they grow old, but serj's case was extreme noticeable
They didn't do live shows
Sounds same
