    Fun fact that was left out- Frank Sinatra's contract for The Detective stipulated that he had to be given the right of first refusal to any sequel. Since Die Hard was technically a sequel, Frank was actually offered the role before Arnold. Since Sinatra was 72 at the time, the studio knew he'd say no, but they did ask him first.

    Fun fact about 'Die Hard with a Vengeance':
    It was initially developed as a stand-alone film titled 'Simon Says' (The script was actually the first third of DH3) starring Brandon Lee. However after Lee tragically died, the script was changed into being the fourth 'Lethal Weapon' film, but it was also scrapped. But when director John McTiernan read it, he thought it would make a perfect 'Die Hard' sequel, and that's how DH3 came to be.
    Another fun fact: It almost came close to being set on a cruise ship, but was scrapped as well (until that premise was used for 'Speed 2').

    • @mattdickie4696
      @mattdickie4696 5 лет назад +4

      Live free or die hard was also a stand alone script. Apparently people knew it stunk and thought the only way to rescue it would be to turn it into a die hard film. And that's how McLane went from everyman to cartoonish indstructability.

      EXTRAORDINARY INFORMATION! AWESOME INFORMATION!

    • @DemonBoy3223
      @DemonBoy3223 4 года назад +2

      @@mattdickie4696 The original _Live Free_ script was said to had been titled *_WW3.com_* and written by David Marconi, the writer of _Enemy of the State_ and _The Foreigner_ (2017). It was inspired on a 1997 _Wired!_ article by John Carlin titled *"A Farewell to Arms"* which discussed the potential threats of cyberterrorism. Apparently the _WW3.com_ script featured a scene involving an airplane crashing into a music stage in New York, and it seemed that scene killed the film's initial development since was being made at the same time as 9/11. And years later it would be re-found and retooled into _Die Hard 4._

    Fun Fact. The movie has so much glass in it that it's actually translated as "Glass Trap" (Szklana Pułapka) for the Polish Market. I guess whoever decided to rename it that way didn't think there'd be sequels with not so much glass in it. The first movie is however so incredibly popular in Poland that they made the name stick for all the other parts.

    Die Hard: an amazing action movie
    Die Hard 2 (Die Harder): a pretty entertaining action movie
    Die Hard 3 (With A Vengeance): an amazing action movie
    Live Free Or Die Hard (4): a terrible 'Die Hard' movie, but as a stand-alone movie it's a good, solid action movie

    What most people don't know is that Alan Rickman broke his leg during the filming of this movie. When you look at Hans in some scenes his suits were very tailored even his pants were very tailored. But in other scenes the pants were a little looser that was to hide the cast.That's the type of actor Alan was . Total pro all the way. Other actors get a paper cut and they can't come to the set because their " injured " .Alan he has a cast on his leg and what does he do ? Tells the costumer to make the pants leg a little fuller so you don't notice the cast. Alan we'll miss you . You were really the first totally Sexy Badguy that women would volunteer to be a hostage of. Not to mention it but he did have one of the cutest asses in Hollywood. Don't believe me check out the final scene in Gambit.

    I work in a company with 400 other employees. About a month ago in early December, some of us were talking about our favorite Christmas movies and Die Hard, of course, came up. One of our co-workers, in the middle of our banter, stood up and said, "Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie." It was like a record-screeching moment. We all paused in an awkward silence and looked at her with angst and amazement.
    "How could you not call Die Hard a Christmas movie?" one of my colleagues inquired.
    "Well, it just isn't. It's an action movie" she replied.
    "Yeah, but the whole movie takes place on Christmas Eve. Even the director and writers have confirmed it's a holiday / Christmas movie" we fired back.
    "Well.....I haven't....actually seen it, yet" retorted this early 30-something employee.
    I work with around 400 other people on a daily basis. Many of them have some very annoying and unbelievably-bad work ethics, habits, etc. But she is now my least favorite person to work with because of this conversation alone.

    Can we stop shitting on Live Free or Die Hard? It's not that bad. In Fact, it's pretty good. No, it's certainly not the best (that would go to the first in my opinion), but it's a perfectly adequate film. Oh, and while I'm here I'll just say this one too. Star Wars episode III is good! I, and II suck ass, but III was a massive improvement, it featured a fantastic mythos involving the origin of the Darkside, and did away with all the stupid mindless humor. I know Star Wars had nothing to do with this video, but I hate that that movie is hated just as much as Live Free or Die Hard.

    Ok here is another one. The character is labelled an all american action hero. But Bruce Willis wasn't born in america. He was actually born in Germany. He moved to america when he was younger. Something that NOW you will know, that hardly anyone else did!
    The Bad Guy is Hans Gruber.

    With Hans though, it's anything BUT a "Silent Night"!

    I realize you did this a long long time ago but I just watched it and, because it was technically a sequel and because Frank Sinatra stared in the original adaptation of the book series he was contracted to make the second film, so they had to ask him to play the roll first. He was 73 years old at the time and told them no. Can you imagine Die Hard with a 73 year old Frank Sinatra playing the part?

Check it out the next time you watch it.. Another thing why does Bruce have a huge scar on his right shoulder?

    Other GREAT Alan Rickman main bad guy roles, for those who may not know: “Quigley down under” starring Tom Selleck. And also “Robin Hood”, starring Kevin Costner. He hit a home run with all these roles. He’s one of a kind.

    Two facts I found fairly "shocking", One more than the other was, On the set of the original Die HArd - Where John Mcclane is is actually under a table and a terrorist is on top -
    Bruce Willis actually lost around 70-ish % of his hearing in one ear - As the guns they had, were firing "extra loud" blanks - just for the extra element of "realism" in the final edit of the movie.
    Within die hard: With a vengeance (die hard 3) the scene where theres an explosion, and the train becomes derailed and runs along the station, they had made a 1 mile (i believe it was) train line, with a custom carrage for the train - where the carriage, swings out.
    Thats right, the entire scene was not faked - it genuinely happened, they genuinely made that scene with 0 CGI or editing - they outright said to everyone who was there, if you get caught by the train theres nothing they can do - but we will give you a extra spot on the credits.
    Like wise, the opening scene of die hard 3, was not faked - they just spent around an entire week preparing for it. As well as around 80-ish % of the new york sections actually being done in front of a live audience,

    Die Hard 4.0 is underrated. Plenty to enjoy there and it feels like a Die Hard film. Apparently the theatrical cut was rated 12 (PG13 in the US) which made it a bit tame but the DVD (the only version I've seen) is more violent and sweary - as well it should be :)

    Another interesting thing, it might be found only on Blu Ray or special commemorative editions: there are SEVERAL versions of Takagi (Holly's boss) pleading with Hans for his life. I think McTiernan did three versions before deciding it was too complex and simply settled for a very brief plea before Hans shot him.

    I'm kind of surprised that Live Free or Die Hard is hated so much. I really enjoyed it. Granted, it was the first one that I saw because at the time it came out I was still a little too young to see the others, but I thought that it was really good. I think I have to agree with Jeremy Jahns, Die Hard 5 was made to shut up the fans that said that Live Free or Die Hard didn't count as a Die Hard movie.

    The reason McClaine's feet seemed so big is that they were false 'slip-over' plastic feet; worn for protection, because apparently the broken glass was real and not 'sugar-glass'. Even with foot protection, I can't say I would like to have been around the set without eye protection!
