Man, I've been out of the "Board Game" game for way too long, I didn't recognize any of these. Fun video with a great format, you two work off each other really well. Good luck with your Channel. Hooah!!!!
We appreciate hearing that! We definitely want this to grow and having comments like this help so much. You should get back in the game with these recommendations!
One of the better lists I've seen. I not only agree with your choices, but I think I must have at least 80% of the games you showed. Thanks for the validation :D Only three other games I'd add from my perspective: Concordia, Splendor, and Cascadia.
We highly appreciate that and it’s always good to hear that there are many games we all similarly enjoy. We have yet to play Concordia but that’s definitely one to get soon!
@@TableZopps If you're a fan of the Asterix comics, the designers of Concordia added an unwritten joke into one of the game boards. While you establish your industries around the ancient Roman empire, there's one familiar-looking village in the north of France where you just can't go. And if you're read the comics, you'll know why :)
Welcome to the board game RUclips space! Fun idea and great choices. Ez subscribe. Castles, Viticulture, SCOUT, Just One, TM would all be on my list as well. Darien's list wins for me mostly because of Viticulture.
Great video! Some games I haven't played yet but my favorites in there were Love Letter, Pandemic, Marvel United and Unmatched. And it's nice that you even mentioned Dice Throne :)
Definitely give these a try and we promise you won’t be disappointed haha. And yeah Dice Throne would be on the list if it had a simpler rule set but I think that’s why we love it so much is that it’s a more in depth King of Tokyo.
Love this!! Trying new games is always scary for me - thanks for the suggestions!! Carcassonne is a childhood classic for me - I just ordered castles of burgundy last week I can’t wait to try it out!
Thanks a bunch! Carcassonne is always a win and you will find that Castles of Burgundy is beautifully simplistic with enough actions to keep the strategy fresh and new with every play.
Fun video! I'm leaning slightly to Darien's choices, because Castles of Burgundy, Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, and Monikers would all make my own Top 10 Essential Games list, too. Unmatched would be on it as well, and it's tough to choose against it.
Thanks! And us as a whole agree with Darien’s picks being the better of the collection especially those super into games but Caleb’s list is nice for the new gamer with various genres and styles of games.
I don't know if this loses me cred as a board game RUclipsr, but I have never played Pandemic... I have played games with a similar system though. The Abbot in Carcassonne is a simple thing to add in and adds a meeple you can place only on specific areas and can recall to score that area early. My favorite TTR is Europe (not counting Legacy which we just started) because it adds stations which you can use to complete routes by using someone else's line, but you are giving up VP to do so. Gloomhaven, Castle of Burgundy, and Terraforming Mars are among my favorite games! And Prelude is on my 5 Essential expansions list... we never play without it.
Hey honestly we know plenty of gamers who still haven’t played pandemic so no cred lost in our opinion. We can’t wait to play Ticket to Ride Legacy. Totally with you on how essential prelude is to Terraforming Mars! Thanks for sharing. 😃
So many classics on the list: love it! Our top played games on the list are Love Letter (Loot Letter skin), Mysterium, and King of Tokyo. They are very easy to teach new players making them easy to get to the table :)
Yes the classics are evergreens for sure which is why many are in our collection. And we definitely agree with the ability to teach and get them played. 😁
Awesome lists! I really think these are solid picks. Games like Carcasonne, Ticket to Ride and Pandemic are where every new board gamer should start so these are musts. Also of course Catan and Splendor. After these five games I feel like new gamers will want to pick up Azul, 7 Wonders, Viticulture and even though it's not on the list Wingspan. The next level a new gamer should go is Terraforming Mars and The Castles of Burgundy. I'm not a huge fan of Mysterium. Unmatched is amazing. Along those lines 2v2 style. Honorable mentions should go to Dice Throne, Summoner Wars and Radlands. Also I could go off on TCGs such as Pokemon and Magic the Gathering. Flesh and Blood has turned out to be one of mine and my wife's favorite games. We've even played Sol Forge, and Keyforge and we have Sorcery and Lorcana on our "learn to play" list. Anyway, I digress. Awesome channel! We subscribed! Keep the awesome content and lists coming! ;)
Wow! Awesome feedback! We love the progression of games you just mentioned and many we still want to try and learn very soon. Definitely will keep making more content and more top lists soon, thank you so much for subscribing!
Team Darien. Caleb picked some outstanding essentials (Pandemic, Love Letter, Just One, Unmatched), but Darien’s collection was so well-rounded and just edged it out. 😊 Fun format.
It's a tough choice between the two lists, they are both great, but I think I have to vote for Darien, mostly because of . . . . Azul, 7 Wonders, Ticket to Ride, Castles of Burgundy, and Viticulture. I haven't yet played Scout, but it is definitely one I want to try at some point. 🙂
Thanks! Scout is definitely worth it and yes many have come to the realization that Darien’s list is superior in many ways haha. I think I went for the more traditional classic essentials idea.
Mysterium and deception on same list is a bit overkill. They’re too similar to take two spots. Feedback: Caleb stop interrupting Darien. You don’t need to jump in and explain a game every time she makes her pick. Let her speak!
I enjoyed the format. So many lists have so much crossover, it gets tedious and I feel like they should just do a combined list. This format forced you to have different picks. A lot of great games on both lists.
Thank you so much! That’s so nice to hear that so many enjoy how we went about this video and yes we agree with the crossover, we are considering doing this style more often for certain top lists in the future! 😄
This is a pretty solid list to be completly honest, I agree with most of the ones you guys picked... the ones I don't I would exchange them for the following: Five Tribes and Tigris & Euphrates (along Azul are my Top 3 games of all time) Sea, Salt & Paper (amazing little gem of a card game) Smallworld (this is probably nostalgia, it was the first modern boardgame in my collection) Tiny Epic Dungeons (affordable puzzly dungeon crawl)
we like summer pavillion and the expansion has more boards, i would include infinity shards or dominion - some deck builder one needs a engine builder so wingspan or terraforming mars, some quick games and more than two - bonanza , for sale and point salad.. we like mid weight the most so we have light mid and heavy orleons, concordia, tzolkin , stone age, dragons castle here are some i enjoy we play a small mean tree game alot lol arboretum we have capstone heavy games like imperial steam and cooperisland aside from co2 and through the ages
Those are awesome shoutouts and many we really want to try. Yes we are for sure all rounders when it comes to games and have a huge range of tastes so it’s nice to see these you mentioned here. We just played Bohnanza for the first time last night and loved it! We also just bought Arboretum so probably gonna give that a shot soon.
@@TableZoppslol the pretty mean tree game.. nice.. you can reuse the same scoring lines for different colors but to score and have the right stuff at the end is always some guessing .. thanks for the response..love chatting boardgames :) play on
Time's Up is still the best party game, and a lot of people would put Codenames as the best, but Just One is not bad. Are these games you feel to be games to start a collection, that should be part of every collection or that are just your favorite games?
Can’t wait to play Time’s Up. These are games that we feel are almost must haves when considering starting a collection or adding to. Some are our favorites but we will definitely be doing our top 50 of all time video this year sometime.
Never played Marvel United. The rest I own and I must say those are all great choices. There are a few choice picks in her list that sway me to team Darien.
It is surprisingly amazing especially when you start to try different combinations. Team Darien seems to be the popular choice especially for deeper gamers. 😄
my essentials: nr 1 pandemic❤ Mysterium Zombicide black plague/undead or alive Cthulhu death may die Marvel united Marvel legendary Dixit Oathsworn Unmatched tales to amaze 😊
Great list! Can’t wait to try Oathsworn and we have yet to pick up a Zombicide but definitely looking at Undead or Alive. Cthulhu Death May Die is on our list of games to get!
Man, I've been out of the "Board Game" game for way too long, I didn't recognize any of these.

That’s awesome to hear! We are hoping to release more videos before the year ends! 😁

Congratulations!!! Waooo you guys really hit the spot with this list totally agree with your selections.
Wow! Thank you so so much!😁
Pandemic was the 1st game that got my wife and I into the hobby. great game! really want to try the Legacy versions.
We are on season 1 and it’s definitely a trip. So much insanity!

Wow! Just realized I'm on Team Darien. I'm actually okay with that....
Darien definitely has the better selection for gamers and Caleb took the more modern classic approach. We are all lowkey team Darien. 😅
Gloomhaven JOTL and Terraforming Mars would be on my list too. In terms of quantity / quality / price relation, no game beat Gloomhaven JOTL.
We can’t wait to start playing it so we can see if the first Gloomhaven is our cup of tea!

I think Darien won this one. However Terraforming mars is my favorite game of all time! Played it last night actually.
It definitely is an evergreen for sure.
I like 19/20 of your games. Hate King of Tokio though
That’s great to hear and yeah we definitely think Dice Throne is a more interesting game overall.
We have very different tastes in games
That’s always a good thing. Our tastes change each year. I find we are more into euro style games than we used to be.
All great games except 1. I have to disagree with mysterium. Really don't like that game at all and as a result I'd go for the games with gloomhaven.
Mysterium is always a pick for us especially Mysterium Park but we totally can understand why some folks don’t love it.
