    Gotta get me one of those WH. Nothing better than a real fire in the garden instead of using an incinerator. No need to worry about mesh here in Blighty cos everything's always damp. But cheers for the idea.

      IMO, nothing beats the smell of a camp fire. :)

      An inch thick Porterhouse above the campfire beats it every time!

      Not sure I want a bunch of ash on my steak, tho, a cast iron dutch oven would do nicely on that. :)

      We're talking smell, not taste. Did you install the sand yet?

      @warhorse1956  7 лет назад

      Not yet, gonna do the seasoning burns for now, then retighten, and then the sand.

    You must be thankful they included the Allen wrench or you'd have been outta luck! : )
    Now your next project can be making a planter, birdbath or maybe a coffee table out of the old one.
    (I got a 24" pit last Christmas so I guess I'll have to go get at least a 40" now so I'm not out done.)

      if you check the Home Depot site, you'll see that there are some pits that are over a grand... tho, that still wouldn't impress me, I've never been the jealous type. ;)

      If you put about an inch of clean sand in the bowl it will prevent damage to the bottom. Your instructions probably tell you to as did mine. (just don't admit to anyone that you read the instructions. ) 😉

      Real men don't read instructions, we're born with the knowledge of how to do everything. LOL

    I just bought this fire pit... I’m going to spray mine with tempered heat Grill paint on the bottom first.

      That's a fine idea. Mine has been doing just fine for years now, and I've had some huge, hot fires in it. The trick is not to leave it outside once it's cooled and cleaned out. The moisture is what rots the bottoms out very quickly.

      @@warhorse1956 do you mean not to store it outside in the off season or whenever you are not burning in it?
      Thanks for the video. I just bought one at my local farm store for a Bennie. I’m going to paint it and put the sand in the bottom. Hopefully I will get at least 5 years out of it here in the northeast.

      @@angiegirl1604 Don't bother with the sand or painting it. Just take it into a dry climate area when it's not in use Be sure to clean the ashes out after they've cooled and store it in a dry area. It'll last much longer then 5 years if you do that. Of course the mesh top, (spark arrestor) wont last for long no matter what you do, unless you have very small fires.
      Hope that helps. Mine is still in excellent shape, even with the 3 alarm fires I have ;)

    Shhhht,Joe. Now my dogs are barking their freaking heads off. Do a video of a fire in this thing. Just got me one of these and put it together. Haven't burnt anything up in it as of yet. I gotta prepare a ground base in the yard for it before adding wood to it.

    • @warhorse1956
      @warhorse1956  5 лет назад +1

      Be happy you still have your dogs to keep you company, the one barking is gone now, I miss him terribly, tho have a new one now.
      As to burning in this thing, some of my later than this videos have it going, most start with "Fireside Chat" . The base I made was the large 18x18 inch pavers from Lowes, just 4 of them will do fine.

      @@warhorse1956 Sorry to hear about Joe. I know the feeling after losing a loyal true friend. I am going to build me a small fire pit wall and fill it with rocks. It will look nice in the yard and I won't have to worry about brush fires. Thank you for sharing this video. You are a good man. I wish you all the best.
