      @@claudemarchand1196 you may well be right , good insight , we all had similar childhoods , I was younger than my brother, when my older brother introduced me too les and told me he was from the roller,s , I replied who ? Les smiled and took no offense , my brother is six years older than me , I genuinely did not know , once I looked him up I was impressed by him , so humble , the finest attribute anybody can have , and despite his success it never changed him , I only knew les for a few years in late 80,s early 90,s , and moved to an another part of london , I never seen him again after that , but the great stories he told us when my brother pestered him enough , seemed like tall tales when he told us , but no doubt true , I carry today and still get a laugh about when I think about a small group of working class Scottish lads taking over the world ,

    Les was a lovely man who could sing a good song and tell a good joke. I loved his witty sense of humour, he always made me laugh. The Bay City Rollers were big in their time. I was only 12 years of age in 1975, but i remember them very well. In fact that year of 1975 i won a colouring in competition taking in numerous schools in the area. My dear beloved mother who passed away recently bought me an entire Bay City Roller outfit to wear to the prize giving ceremony. Ive never forgot it and ive never forgot the Bay City Rollers. Rest in peace Les.

    R.I.P., Les. Thanks for the music, three concerts I attended, and so many good times.
    I got a radio DJ gig in 1978, and the first record I played was "You Made Me Believe In Magic". As a Rollers' nod, I'd sign off each day saying to my listeners "All of me loves all of you!". Love to Les and the rest of the band, now and always.

    *Rest In Peace, Les. Comfort to your Family and Close Friends.*
    _Torphichen!_
    I, once upon a time, played bass in a band, in Livingston, West Lothian. The keyboard player was my/your (?) friend: Wattie Black, who played with the BCR before they became rightly famous. I went on to be the bassist of an early, but nonetheless successful, version of _Blues 'n' Trouble._ Happy Days/Daze ...
    Perhaps we will meet, one of these Auld Afternoons, upon a better Astral Plane.
    By the way, another friend of yours/mine is David (Davie) Paton! ( The band *Pilot* - _January_ and _Magic_ .) *No relation to Tam Paton!*
    Stay free, Les, wherever you may be. Wishing you and yours well.
    Rab 💚 👋

    RIP Les. Your music was lightweight pop though.

    • @711honved
      @711honved 4 месяца назад +6

      Yep, 99% of the chart is lightweight poppy music. At their peak the Rollers sold millions of records & brought towns to a standstill when they arrived for concerts. I only ever saw The Beatles & David Cassidy do that. In real life, Les was humorous, self deprecating & racked with insecurities. It had been a rough ride but hopefully he's at peace now.

    I just read his Wikipedia profile and I am really nonplussed. He got away with murder. At the age of 20, he killed an elderly driver was banned from driving for ONE year, and charged 100 pounds. WTH? And the guilt of this led to his alcoholism. He already was an alcoholic. He wasn't that guilty because he continued to drink and drive and lost his license for 18 months. Geez Louise. Died of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Alcohol will do that to you as well as help you run people over and cost you 100 pounds to boot.
