Another celebrity from that time that made a public appearance at MacFisheries was Jimmy Saville who at the time was a big star on Top of the Pops who my Mum also got his autograph for me , also I remember the Coronation actress Pat Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner opening an amusement arcade at the end of the row of shops by the old Kingsway cinema in Kings Heath high street . Btw .Where in Kings Heath did the Beatles perform ?
Saw Freddie and the dreamers a few times. He was a really nice guy. The 2 particular times I remember was at one gig I asked him to do a particular song but he thanked me for asking but they didn't do it anymore as it was a B side. The second time was at Butlins and everyone was busy gabbing and not listening to the band. I made a point of applauding really loudly and cheering him on. He looked straight at me in a crowded room and thanked me very much.
Yes I also saw Freddie at Butlins. There did seem something wrong at the time he came on bald headed which seemed a bit of a surprise. Then after a couple of songs he left the stage and left it up to rest. He was a good entertainer in his days and helped make the sixties sound.

I met Freddie when he was a patient in the hospital where I work in Sheffield. I recognised his name and was telling my colleagues about that famous dance he did on that Blue Peter appearance. Well, actually, I was showing them the dance, when I realised that he was watching me - he was sat in his wheelchair laughing. I was a bit embarrassed and later went to say hello when I was visiting the ward he was in. He was absolutely lovely.
In 1963, aged 8, I was given a factory copy (not for sale) of the single You Were Made for Me autographed by Freddie, by a friend of my father who had became the manager of Freddie and the Dreamers. I've still got it.

I just realized you say Derek Quinn on Harmonica, yes, but he was essentially Lead Gtr + Harmonica. Also a photo at approx, 5'-20' settles the question, often asked, yes he did meet the Beatles. I was also invited to his funeral & sat 2nd to front row, Amazingly, Freddie had written a very funny letter to be read out at his cremation, also on top of his coffin, at his request, they had placed his Grimaldi piebald stalk hat...still raising laughs after he was gone. I loved working with him and his character, a real gem !. The Press' had turned up in force, from all over the place, for the after service photo-shoot. I got to stand front row next to Christine, and as she was so distraught & in tears, I put my arm round her shoulders & held her hand as I felt, two or three times, she was trembling & shaking so much she was on the verge of just fainting on the spot, but she bravely managed to keep it together poor girl. The 'after do' was a very big affair held in the upstairs of a v'big football club a few miles from Abbey Houlton [?]. Curiously I was not sad driving back down to B'ham, in fact I was convinced & dare say he's still out there, somewhere, as funny & irrepressible as ever.

They came with a wheel chair !! wow ! Just such a token of love for Freddie, I could see clearly how much the Nurses loved him & his cheerful up-beat & jolly Spirit right to the end.
Me & my mate once met Freddy in Offerton Stockport, he was opening a shop of his called (I think) The Little Red Donkey. We were about 15 at the time just walking past when we bumped into him. He was a natural personal guy who happily chatted with 2 unknown teenagers.
I loved their hit I’m telling you now released in the USA and his “Freddy dance” . I also remember his debut on the Ed Sullivan Show and other teen musical shows as well. RIP Freddy ❤🙏
This was really good. My brother in Law from Moston was quite friendly with Freddie back in the day. Being the same age, and going to the same haunts, in North Manchester it was inevitable. Noticed a picture of Freddy with Peter Noone. Believe it or not I spent a few moths sharing same school desk with Herman back in 1959 in Urmston, Manchester. (My claim to fame)
Only because I lived in Manchester as a kid, and so did my Brother in Law. Apart from Herman not really met anybody that could be described as famous apart from Mohammed Ali. and that was by pure chance, and again a long time ago

I think that you are right. I bumped into Mohammad Ali in New York on Park Avenue almost 50 years ago. He had at least six body guards with him. He was with his daughter and he allowed me to take a picture of them both,. His daughter was holding his hand. He didn't have to stop and wait but he did. If you remember his daughter held his hand at the Olympics - she was a woman by then and he was very ill. Fantastic moment for me. Other famous people I have met - Joe Brown having a drink with his wife in Spain. Tom Baker making an episode of Doctor Who (what a great guy) Salmond Rusdie having a bite to eat in every posh restaurant in London. Trevor Mc Donald was lso there that day but not together. my cousin was a dancer in one of Freddy’s Pantomimes in Doncaster mid Sixties. The whole family went along to see her. I was very young but can remember him jumping around the stage.

Freddie and the Dreamers were all about fun. I love the song "I'm Telling You Now." Regarding being $ 7,000 in debt upon return, if either Uncle Sam or John Bull doesn't get you, the managers will. That's too funny the bit with Roy Orbison. Roy was loved by everyone in music. Have you done an episode with him? Looking at this video Freddie had a good dentist and he also got better looking as he got older. I saw a clip of The Doors earlier today. How about Ray Manzerak? That would be cool. One last thing. We all know now his favorite baseball team.

I certainly do. I was in the audience on Saturday, 26th May, 1973 for the recording of two editions of "Little Big Time" at the Southern Television studios in Southampton

It is impossible to explain to modern youth the euphoria of those heady 1960s days which saw an explosion of British music ,the like of which had never been seen before. Only people in my age group would remember that.
At about 7'- 28 ' seconds into the Vid , it mentions, Freddie appeared on the Wheeltappers & Shunters Club, I was Freddie's Lead Guitar, Bandleader, MD & Arranger. at that time. I joined him at Christmas '72 Panto' at the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton where 'Dana' { '"All Kinds of Everything" girl & Eurovision Song contest Winner' } then on '73 into '74 & can be seen briefly conducting the Band as I wrote a lot of Freddie's arrangements & parts { incl' 'Good Morning Starshine ' & 'Try a little Kindness' }. Bernard Manning & Tessie O'Shea were also on the show..all absolutely hilarious, as he often went into the audience doing wild & unpredictable things, stopping & starting the band again & again totally unscripted. ( Gave me grey hairs ) We travelled the country doing Gigs Working Mens Clubs & Tv shows, just loads of fun & also the Christmas Pantomimes, Life in the 60's & 70's was a wonderful time, I knew him to be a very quick, witty, very funny, and all round good kind guy. The Wheeltappers Tv show can still be found on RUclips.

@@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv Well thank you Harmony, & yes truly wonderful it all was, curiously Dana was in Freddie's dressing room during 1st day Rehearsals, X'mas Panto when he asked me to be his new Lead Gtr & form a new Band, which became successful, but 18months or so later the music scene was advancing rapidly Freddie was a bit dated, & Dana's agent rang me & I then toured with her..As my sight reading developed I went on to play with so many great Tv name stars in Cabaret & Working mens Clubs- like Norman Wisdom & even playing Ld Gtr for such USA stars as Neil Diamond, Freida Payne, Doris Troy, & even retired ( 1st time ) 1984 on a World Cruise as Frankie Vaughn's personal Guitarist. This seemed to be the culmination of a Career that saw me start in a Band '5 Dimensions 'at TOP TEN nightclub, Reeperbahn, Hamburg { May 1961} on the day the Beatles left..And was also best friends with John Bonham ( Yes that drummer) who lived in the same small town. Truly God is Good to me !! all so Wonderful.

my cousin was a dancer in one of Freddy’s Pantomimes in Doncaster mid Sixties. The whole family went along to see her. I was very young but can remember him jumping around the stage.

That's too funny the bit with Roy Orbison. Roy was loved by everyone in music. Have you done an episode with him? Looking at this video Freddie had a good dentist and he also got better looking as he got older. I saw a clip of The Doors earlier today. How about Ray Manzerak? That would be cool. One last thing. We all know now his favorite baseball team.

I certainly do. I was in the audience on Saturday, 26th May, 1973 for the recording of two editions of "Little Big Time" at the Southern Television studios in Southampton

It is impossible to explain to modern youth the euphoria of those heady 1960s days which saw an explosion of British music ,the like of which had never been seen before. Only people in my age group would remember that.
At about 7'- 28 ' seconds into the Vid , it mentions, Freddie appeared on the Wheeltappers & Shunters Club, I was Freddie's Lead Guitar, Bandleader, MD & Arranger. at that time. I joined him at Christmas '72 Panto' at the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton where 'Dana' { '"All Kinds of Everything" girl & Eurovision Song contest Winner' } then on '73 into '74 & can be seen briefly conducting the Band as I wrote a lot of Freddie's arrangements & parts { incl' 'Good Morning Starshine ' & 'Try a little Kindness' }. Bernard Manning & Tessie O'Shea were also on the show..all absolutely hilarious, as he often went into the audience doing wild & unpredictable things, stopping & starting the band again & again totally unscripted. ( Gave me grey hairs ) We travelled the country doing Gigs Working Mens Clubs & Tv shows, just loads of fun & also the Christmas Pantomimes, Life in the 60's & 70's was a wonderful time, I knew him to be a very quick, witty, very funny, and all round good kind guy. The Wheeltappers Tv show can still be found on RUclips.

@@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv Well thank you Harmony, & yes truly wonderful it all was, curiously Dana was in Freddie's dressing room during 1st day Rehearsals, X'mas Panto when he asked me to be his new Lead Gtr & form a new Band, which became successful, but 18months or so later the music scene was advancing rapidly Freddie was a bit dated, & Dana's agent rang me & I then toured with her..As my sight reading developed I went on to play with so many great Tv name stars in Cabaret & Working mens Clubs- like Norman Wisdom & even playing Ld Gtr for such USA stars as Neil Diamond, Freida Payne, Doris Troy, & even retired ( 1st time ) 1984 on a World Cruise as Frankie Vaughn's personal Guitarist. This seemed to be the culmination of a Career that saw me start in a Band '5 Dimensions 'at TOP TEN nightclub, Reeperbahn, Hamburg
{ May 1961} on the day the Beatles left..And was also best friends with John Bonham ( Yes that drummer) who lived in the same small town. Truly God is Good to me !! all so Wonderful.
