OMG THANK YOU for finally doing this for all BCR fans. I have all their albums and still love them. RIP Alan, Ian. Les. They were a huge part of my teen years. I hope all the people in the music industry got Karma for screwing BCR out of their money. I sincerly hope the remaing BCR are doing well.
Why you thanking anyone and thanking them for what bag pipes or the muzak which is a big stretch to say even that another the next Beatles band the only thing next was roller Derby for those pipe puffers Saturdy knit
Besides their predator manager, Tam Payton who robbed them blind, (he is now deceased), still going strong and multi billionaires Arista Records and Clive Davis owe them royalties for album sales the record company still makes profit from. What was done to the BCR was deplorable to say the least.
@@stp1649 Their songs were teen pop. They sold millions of albums, topped charts. Regardless of subjective opinions about their songs, their predator manager abused them sexually and financially.
sweet memory: my sister Terah had a pen pal in fith grade named Stacey Lane. I remember reading one of her letters to my sister and she mentioned her favorite band was The Bay City Rollers this was 1974/'75
Me and my 2 best friends in high school talked our moms into making us outfits that the rollers wore. Short pants trimmed in tartan and all! We all wore them to the state fair that year. Needless to say we got alot of head turns! 😆
No mention of the fact they got ripped out of all their money by their evil manager, who during the early 80's got jailed for a child sex offence. I assume the reason there was little mention of Derek is the fact that he and brother Alan had to take day jobs. Alan returned to his former occupation as a plumber, but rejoined the group for revival gigs, while Derek permanently left and became a male nurse at a children's hospital in Edinburgh. There was a documentary on RUclips WHO GOT THE ROLLERS' MILLIONS, in which there was what was obviously a snippet of an interview from manager Tam Paton, from when he was alive. He said "Well two years is a lifespan for a group, and that was their lifespan. How much more money did they expect me to have made for them. Look at all these British bands that exploded during the mid sixties. They completely changed the whole music world. But with most of them, two years was their lifespan, and look what little money they all finished off with". But he was a lying bastard, as he finished with about 50 million, and could easily have paid them a few million each. He ended up living in a mansion surrounded by spiked fences, while Les McKeown was living in a flat in east London. Furthermore,, although their success barely lasted for three years, they had about as much success within that time as what a lot of artists would have achieved in about three or four times their length of success. I did not know that it was a neighbor who Les accidentally killed by dangerous driving. But in reality, their career got washed away in early 1977 when Punk Rock suddenly exploded, out-fashioning the lighter weight Pop that preceded it, with groups like The Osmonds and Bay City Rollers getting replaced by The Sex Pistols and The Clash, and all their contemporaries, all of whom were a different kettle of fish altogether. But The Rollers created a nice cheerful atmosphere in the world when they lasted. I have watched a lot of their live clips on RUclips recently, and they all seemed very atmospheric. But it was during their time that the UK was also hit with Womblemania. Maybe you could do another video, Whatever Happened To The Wombles. But the rip off against The Bay City Rollers was believed to have been the biggest rip off ever in Pop history.
So right. I just saw that doc on the Rollers millions. It sickened me. Leslie was able to show that the record label Arista still makes money from sales of their songs on various albums such as 70's Gold and so forth. The Rollers were manipulated, lied to, scammed, abused, controlled under a tyrant. I equally blame Clive Davis and Arista for not paying them royalties. Poor Les bought a house for his parents that he was forced to lose over being robbed by this evil greedy management. It hurt him tragically.
The Bay City Rollers have a loyal fan base to this day! I have loved them since I was a young girl. Finally got to meet Leslie couple times when he came to my city, he was pretty cool, and there was some great memories with his band! I wish he hadn't got the experimental gene therapy, otherwise I think he'd still be alive to this day. My favorite was Eric Faulkner, I hope to meet him one day. My fave album is Its a Game, a very kool album..still listen and love their music!!! Respect to the BCR xo
👍 Another well put together video. Just one little correction, the group Pilot. Had several hit releases during the mid 1970s ,besides Magic !. Including January, to name just one more.............
But was David Paton related to the Rollers' manager Tam Paton. He eventually went into The Alan Parsons Project, and appeared as a sessionist on albums for more successful artists like Elton John and Kate Bush.
I could have sworn I heard Saturday Night in June of '75 in the U.S on the radio in California., though this video claims it wasn't released until September of '75 in the U.S. I always remembered it as the first song I heard during my very first day in California on June 2, 1975.
If you're not from the UK, then you possibly will not have seen the TV programme which was aired on British TV channel ITV in June 2023 - Secrets of The Bay City Rollers presented by Nicky Campbell. That's the truth ALL Rollers' fans need to see - it made me cry, especially for Les McKeown, but it also made me understand some of the demons Les had during his life! I think someone has uploaded to RUclips, so please take a look and just see what they had to endure under the management of Tam Paton!
Following their first US Number One, Saturday Night, you say it was followed by, Money Honey, then, You Made Me Believe In Magic, which is inaccurate. Yes, Money Honey did follow Saturday Night and reached number 9 on the Bill Board Hot 100. However, that was actually followed by, Rock And Roll Love Letter, which reached number 28 then, I Only Wanna Be With You, which reached number 12, Yesterday’s Hero, reaching number 54 and Dedication, reaching number 60. The single, You Made Me Believe In Magic, then followed and reached number 10, followed by, The Way I Feel Tonight, reaching number 24 and was their final US Bill Board Hot 100 hit.
..the sex pistols manager set the pistols up as a anti bay city rollers....an antidote to roller mania......the pistols did a tour of england notably manchester and the kids who saw them went on to form the biggest bands of the 80s
It should have been mentioned. He was found with child pornography which he claimed did not belong to him, but was left behind by an acquaintance; he pled guilty to avoid a media frenzy-which certainly backfired... His adopted son said it was impossible for him to be a paedo. Tam Paton the manager known as the `6th’ Roller was a predatory paedo who preyed on members of the band, and any other children he could get access to. Like Jimmy Savile, Paton had contacts with police, care workers, and politicians all of whom turned a blind eye to what was happening at the drug fueled parties to marginalised children. After finally being fired from the Rollers (after years of bullying and stealing their money) Paton was, reportedly involved in the illegal drug trade in Edinburgh.
The Bay City Rollers changed their name and had a slight comeback in that Hair Band Jandra and under the name “ Poison “ with slight Hots “Talk Dirty to me’ and “Unskinny Bop” I believe they still Tour with other Bands they Infunnced..
I do love some of the Rollers’ hits, but even I can at least acknowledge the bad baggage that comes with their legacy, such as Derek Longmuir being a sex predator.
Question, Who gives a shit. They were shilled in the US by Howard Cosell for his short-lived Saturday Night variety show. He was trying to become the next “Ed Sullivan,” with the BCR touted as “THE NEXT BEATLES.” Howard fell flat on his face. The show was cancelled after half a season. The Bay City Rollers didn’t fare any better, falling somewhat short of the Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Knack in longevity.

Dave Paton isn't related to Tam. He didn't like working with Tam. So after apologising to myself. He said that He was going to leave the BCR'S.
I absolutely loved the BCRs and still do

It wasn't released officially until later that year. But it was taken over to America by Arista. To be played before the BCR'S came to America.
