The daughter acted like she's a 2 year old not 22 years old. But actually wait, a 2-year-old wouldn't even act like this over cake. A 2-year-old child would sit there digging their hands into it, enjoying the cake, the presents, and the party. So it's sad that a grown 22-year-old young woman would behave this way.
When I was 2, for my birthday my parents got the wrong cake - the kind my brother liked rather than the kind I liked. At the party, when I saw it was the wrong cake, I ate a piece. It was good. I told my parents. They bought me the right cake after the party.

You can see where the 22-year-old daughter gets her craziness from, the mother. She should have just enjoyed her party with family and friends, went back to the Cake Maker the next day and said hey this was the wrong cake. Then they should have taken his offer to reimburse them, give them store credit or a cake for free. But it's people like this who play the victim and always want a whole lot of something for a whole lot of nothing.

My 9 year old autistic daughter even have enough sense know that " accidents happen sometimes" ( she tells me that quite often when I complain😂) . It was a mistake, not the end of the world. A wrong cake flavor doesn't ruin a party. It won't effect the music, it won't make the guest that shows up in support, support you any less, it wont mess up the decorations or aything else. To think that he owes you anything other than the cake cost of which he tried to pay is absolutely absurd!

I would have been pissed at my daughter, not the baker. Things happen. If anything, call the baker, ask if the rum cake was there, say I'm coming by to get it, have both cakes. That reaction is asinine at best. Pathetic
For anyone wondering, red velvet is not just a chocolate cake with red food coloring. It's kinda like the difference between a normal chocolate cake and a devil's food cake where the devils food is richer and denser than the chocolate, the red velvet is lighter and has a tangy quality to it. This tang originally came from the use of buttermilk although I don't know what the modern ingredients are.
The buttermilk also helped make red velvet red. Buttermilk, baking soda, and vingar were originally used and those had a reaction when mixed together, the reaction helped with leavening to make the cake more airy but when it mixed with a certain PH sensitive antioxidant that's in cocoa it became red. The traditional recipes that don't use coloring are much more muted, the red is more of a rust color but it is still quite distinct from a normal chocolate color.

But that reaction only works with _raw_ cacao powder. When Dutch-processing became the norm (to cut down on the acidity) in cocoa powders, people started adding food coloring or beet juice to make the cake red.
To make a traditional red velvet cake, you’d have to get raw cacao powder, not your usual big brand cocoa powder.
It’s something I think should maybe be brought back. It supposedly has an earthy red color, not the bright red of today’s version, but some recipes brighten (and sweeten) it up with beet juice.

A local bakery messed up the cupcakes for my son’s first birthday - wrong flavor AND I didn’t get the correct amount that I ordered…. I called when I realized it & they gave me $$ back for the mistake… THE PARTY WAS STILL FINE! We have to stop letting mistakes ruin our moments/memories…

I think this was a private party at home and the family all got a piece of the red velvet but decided to try and get some money out of the poor guy because of a simple mixup.

It depends on how thick and large each slice is. You can absolutely cut up 35 slices from a 10" cake. Each slice might be paper thin, but it's still a slick of cake, LOL.

PS red velvet cake is cocoa and vinegar... the chemical reaction between the vinegar cocoa reveals red anthocyanin in the cocoa - there should not be any food colouring in red velvet cake. Many bakeries also add vinegar into their bread mix so the bread keeps fresher for longer...
