In my country the RTX 3050 sells for almost twice the price of 6500XT
This is a great option for budget gamers but i do feel AMD skimped A LOT more than necessary
Like having pcieX4 instead of X8 or X16
The problem with this approach is that you can no longer use an old platform if you want to use the full potential of the card
Which make it a card that's meant for budget builds but in order to use the full potential of the card you have to buy newer platform which doesn't fit well with the "budget GPU" claims of this card

Basically coming from something like a GTX 1050 ti or a GTX 750 ti and with a very small budget the RX 6500 XT at MSRP is a viable option for lots of people. It's way better than a GTX 1050 ti and doesn't even cost as much as a second hand GTX 1650 super. It's still available at MSRP and comes with a 3 year warranty unlike any second hand card you buy. All the better off people who can afford to spend £300 - £500 or more on a GPU good luck to them but lots of people can't afford it and this card is an option for them.

The 6500XT is not a great option at all, the 4x pcie lanes severely limit performance on pcie 3.0, which is what most people have who are shopping at this pricepoint. Pcie 4.0 is only on newer mobos which are often half the cost of this GPU.

I like and respect Zach very, very much. That being said, I don't think I could disagree any more strongly.
I do NOT lay any of the blame on Zach regarding any part of the craziness that has taken over the entire GPU market in the last couple of years, but I do think that opinions like his may be propagating, and even proving the effectiveness of, an enormous marketing push across the entire market to gaslight the average consumer into expecting that they should have to pay way more money for way less performance than what current gen tech is able to deliver.
I think it's somewhat dangerous, on the consumer level, once we get to the point where we look at what the 6500XT is and how it performs (as well as any other card to come out in the last two year compared to its market price) and we begin to accept that as 'normal' and as 'just the way it is'.
People with enough disposable income that buying the newest or biggest of everything is easy for them is one thing, but the boom in crypto prices is the exception, not the rule. That and all of the other supply/demand variables that have come into play to create the perfect storm for GPU pricing. Those values as well as the GPU prices that go up and down along with them as long as there are suckers who continue buying in, will ALWAYS rise and fall as long as GPUs are able to mine with. But if GPU manufacturers/distributors truly have their way, they will convince as many people as possible that less performance for more money is how it's 'supposed to be'. That way they can just drive prices way up on ALL GPUs, ALL of the time and make those huge, inflated profits ALL of the time and not just when crypto is up and there are new cards released

From my take, Zach is just giving his current take of the card in the current market right now, not the future. His points are valid. People are buying the GT 710s and 1030s. People have the option to buy or not. AMD and NVIDIA both know that at some point the crypto bubble using gpus will burst and the supply of cards will flood the market. Their sales will go down and prices adjust. Of course inflation could get worse and none of this will matter because you can't afford anything. Got to remember it is all relative.

    • @user-db4lk7yg3o
      @user-db4lk7yg3o 2 года назад +2

I agree that I don’t think this card will be as inflated in pricing as the 3050, so it will definitely be the best option for budget gamers that aren’t wanting to test the used market. However, the same thing that limits its mining potential is the one that is going to limit its gaming potential, even at 1080p, as shown by the CoD benchmarks; the 4gb of VRAM. If they added even just 2gb more, that helps with performance so much, but then again it becomes more valuable for mining and thus would be inflated more. I think for $200 it’s a fine new purchase, but anything more than $250 and I don’t think it’s worth it.

While it always great to see a content creator go against the crowd and challenge pre-conception. This is a bad take, the fact that a card in the same performance group released 5 years ago can go blow for blow in performance (and win in features out of the box) with a card released in 2022 is a literal joke.
It’s market exploitation at its most egregious. As we all know MSRP is a fairytale, so this will go for even more and AMD knows it. Compare the price it will actually go for vs the price the RX 580 went for when it released and you have a clearer picture of how AMD, NVIDIA, Intel will always choose to exploit the market whenever the opportunity presents itself. Buying this card shows them that we’re happy with them doing that, and this will encourage them to do whatever they can to make sure this market state stays the same (similar story for diamonds, it’s all forced artificial scarcity).

A lot of these negative comments didn't age well.. it's 5 months later and prices are still crazy for a budget PC build GPU imo.. Here is my story lol

    AMD Phenom 2 x3 720 2.8GHz

    XFX r9 285 2GB
    650 PSU..
Getting very bad FPS and even World of Warcraft was hard to run and decent settings.. I play all kinds of games btw..
sooo for $400 back in Feb 2022 I got,
    asrock b450 Mobo $75
Ryzen 3 3100 3.6GHz $190 in Feb 2022, (I know I way overpaid, I wanted a 3300x but was sold out or more than the entire build.)
    T-Force Delta (2x8) 16gb ddr4 3200 RGB (out of box) $65
and picked up a case for $50 (mine was an old tower from a business that was crap)
Prices are rounded but it came out to $400 on newegg...
    pcie4 btw..
My first time doing a fresh build instead of hand me down parts.. Mobo's GPUs CPUs etc
Game changer with the Ryzen but now I am limited by the 2gb r9 285.. It was a good mid range card back in the day but now it lacks vram and gets way hot and a rx 6500 xt will fix all that.
This dated GPU is a bottleneck now and I was hesitant to get the 6500 because of the 64 bit coming from 256 bit..
Hate to admit it but to save money I was looking at the 6400 lol but don't tell nobody..
So I picked one (ASRock Phantom Gaming D Radeon RX 6500 XT PCI Express 4.0)up on newegg for $200 with tax but it also came with 3 games they said valued at $180 - saints row 2022, Forespoken, and sniper elite..
It is going to be a huge upgrade even with the limits so I am looking forward to getting it in and checking it out..
That's all I have to say about that..

The problem with this card is that for the same price and 5 years ago you could get the same performance. The card it's replacing in the 5500XT is better and offered 8GB of Vram. For me buying this card made sense. I am building my first ever pc so there is no card to upgrade from. Also my build is pcie 4.0. I bought it for 235 euro. So near msrp. The gtx 1650 cost the same in my country for less performance so that wasn't really a dilemma. On top of that, I will be playing mostly titles released during 2020 and back, because I skipped the ps4 game generation. And my monitor is 1080p 60fps. I plan to keep this card for a couple of years and then upgrade to something better. It is a fine substitute while I wait for the gpu market to come to its senses, when at the same time I have fun playing games.

Yes I fully agree that a lot of reviewers were being idiots in their commentary about this because as much as they complained about pricing, to sensationalize their videos, when a REAL budget GPU hits the market they say don't buy it. I don't know how you could be more hypocritical than THAT. This was better than the 1650 Super and was typically priced better, and most people don't need the encoders

    • @snakeplissken111
      @snakeplissken111 Год назад

It's pretty onpar with the 1650 Super (and a lot of the time a GTX 1060). I still don't consider the 6500XT to be any really good value. It's a low end and budget product, alright. That is "budget" in today's market of inflated GPU prices, of course.
But similar to the high end market, where prices don't matter at all -- this is a product where price is the only thing that matters. Just a tier above the value you get is so much better it's not a contest. I'm looking for a possible replacement for my aging 1050ti, but this is not going to be it. The 1050ti as entry-level to 1080p gaming was paired with 4GB of VRAM 6 years ago already. As a result, it can actually still game quite a few AAA games with ~45fps medium settings such as Elden Ring half a decade later.
The 6500XT meanwhile won't offer anywhere near that value as even on lower settings and older games on higher settings, the 4GB are just about enough. And that's just the VRAM. The advantage in rendering power on a RX6600 is much higher than any of the benchmarks in this video suggests. So you can keep it even after a CPU upgrade or with your next system some more.
"Cheap" means "cheap" in this case.

I think it might be worth looking at IF you have pci-e 4.0. Otherwise, it's a hard pass. It's an x4 card, so if you have a pci-e 3.0 motherboard, it's going to run at 3.0 x4. That actually makes it slower than a 580 8GB in most games. In some games, it's a lot slower.

The GPU is SUPPOSED TO BE the bottleneck in your graphics performance.. ffs..
      An old 2011 X5650 6 core/12 thread stock clocked Xeon doesn't bottleneck the RX 580 8GB at 1430/2100mhz, 99% of the time.
I bought a Ryzen 1700 8/16 motherboard-16GB ram-CPU combo (200 bucks woo!), at stock clocks it has the same performance. There are moments, when the CPU is being slammed, the 1700 allows the performance to stay a single digit FPS higher than with the X5650, but that's probably less than 1% of time in a game.
GPU is supposed to be the graphics bottleneck, if anything else is, you've underbuilt your rig or used an overpowered card for the build.

The WHY is the point. The video's title is (as time of writing) "Why everyone is WRONG about the RX6500XT".
I waited for several minutes to him to answer the "why". After that I gave up and made my comment after he constantly repeated himself and rehashed existing news.
There is a reason this video was stretched to 10 minutes: It's clickbait and he needs it to be 10+ minutes otherwise the RUclips algorithm doesn't promote his video. He could have literally made this 2 minutes long and been informative, but instead he decided to trick the audience so he can make more money. Zach is definitely a glass half full type of guy. People don't want just a budget graphics card. People want a DECENT budget graphics card at a price that makes sense. This is not a solution to anything imo. Once artificial inflation hits this card (which it will in the current gpu market regardless of crypto performance due to overly high demand and limited supply), the price to performance will make absolutely no sense. This card gets outperformed by a 1650 super, and it will probably cost about $400 in retail stores. (The cheapest you can find a 6600 right now realistically is between $500 and $550, which is why i think the 6500xt will be inflated to $400). 1650 supers on the used market already exist at that $400 price, they just dont make sense to buy due to 4GB of vram and overall bad price to performance, which will make this card even less sensible to buy at that price. I do hope im wrong about the price, but i doubt it. There's absolutely no reason to be optimistic about the gpu market right now. The card would make sense for $200-250. I think you'd be making a mistake buying this card for around $400 which will likely be the price on it imo after inflation.

AMD has supported PCIE 4.0 for 3 years now. You can get a PCIE 4.0 motherboard for $50.
What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that it was this card or no card. This is a upclocked laptop die slapped on a PCB for use in desktop. There was originally no intention of selling this die on desktop. This decision was made after tape out. Adding more lanes and encoders would have meant a new die. The lead time on a new die is 10 months and the cost of a new die is around 200 million USD on 7nm.
Its not like Nvidia is offering any alternatives at this price point. What are you going to buy? A 1650? That card is significantly weaker on a PCIE 4.0 motherboard.

      @jhao3598 2 года назад

@@gamingcyber334 Yes, a lot of people are still happily on Kaby Lake and earlier, but most are upgrading to the newest platforms available via bundles and sales. The "some people" are an exception but the majority are able to upgrade, even if it's slowly. DDR4 RAM (2x8gb kit) has been affordable due to DDR5, as low as $50 from retail (Crucial has been dumping a lot recently in waves for instance). CPUs, at the moment the i5-12600K is $295 - 300 across most retailers and it's going to go lower once the next generation is ready for release. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is also roughly around the same pricing and it will expect the same outcome. As for motherboards, they of course can vary but the ones that fit most people's needs are less that $150.
If one is going for Intel, they have to make sure they can get a DDR4 supported motherboard due to DDR5 price to performance currently. Cheapest B560 that supports DDR4 from retail is the Asus PRIME B660M-A D4, can be had for $140 right now from Amazon and it should meet a gamer's needs. If going for AMD, the cheapest B550 from retail is the ASRock B550M-HDV for $80 from Newegg, and it'll meet a budget gamer's needs just fine. Both Intel and AMD routes will be roughly $450 - 500 at the moment regardless which ever is taken (taking into account CPU + Mobo). And, deals will always happen for other alternatives and other components.
As for the GPU... I would not consider the RX 6500XT at its current price, save some money and get the RX 6600 or RX 6600XT since they are more often in stock, but I imagine it will go down to lower than $150 since nobody wants to buy this junk due to its price to performance and other negative compromises. Miners might play with it to see how much hashrates they can get but won't depend on it and will not recommend usage of it, scalpers will try to flip them because "shiny GPU" for a month or two but since nobody wants to buy them at even higher pricing they will sell them at the price they bought it for (or even less), and most gamers won't buy it because their eyes are not on a card like this. They want a GPU such as the RTX 3060 or RX 6600 minimum, which those go for at least $500 retail (pretty sure the 3060 goes for a few hundred more). Only the budget gamers will consider this card over other options, but give it some time and this will be at a great price anyways. Just take a look at the Ryzen 7 5800X, while it didn't receive as much harsh criticism from reviewers and consumers (because it wasn't a bad chip) it was the first Ryzen 5000 chip to be regularly in stock and the first to begin having its price slashed closer to what many said it should've been (I bought mine at $440 since it was the only in stock option at the time and it's currently regularly available at $360, close to the price many said it should've been at in the first place).
Am I still missing some point? Once again I understand a lot of people cannot upgrade due to financial reasons so they're stuck with a DDR3-supported machine but there's even more people looking to upgrade everything anyway. From what I've read, a lot of people looking for a low budget gaming GPU in countries with unfortunate financial circumstances do appreciate this GPU due to it actually being affordable for them, and we'll just have to wait and see what the 3050 will do (I imagine it will be better performing but more expensive, out of stock regularly, and scalped to shit like every other GPU, as well as the Intel GPUs that are upcoming but really we'll just have to wait and see).

But the majority of the people that would be buys this card fall under "some people". Remember this card is literally marketed towards them. Not everyone else running a 12600k. In the end, the reason why this gpu was so poorly received was because they marketed to low budget gamers who can't justify an at least $200+ platform upgrade AND a $200+ gpu. Any budget gamer will tell you that they would just get the gpu now and upgrade the rest later, but after seeing the preformence on their 8th/9th gen build or older build, would probably have buyers remorse. And worst case, scalp their card to just end up waiting for the next one. Also let's not forget, not everyone in the gaming space is running ryzen 3000 or newer/ 11th gen intel. There are lots of gamers out there that run 4th gen intel still (as much as most people here seem to forget this fact) and first or second gen ryzen. The 6500XT can play AC : Valhalla ...the bottom line is for under 300.00 bucks you can't be too picky. Unless you're willing to spend 600.00 - 900.00 bucks right up front you're going to be doing small upgrades over time regardless. I sold a Radeon 5700 8GB for almost $900.00. The question is when do you decide to enter the game and at what price point....then when do you decide to upgrade. The 6 month timeline is actually smart because 4GB cards are going to start to decline in value sooner rather than later. 6500XT is a safe purchase but I wouldn't hang on to it for longer than 6 months probably. Newer cards are easier to resell especially when you have the retail box and everything. A 6500XT will be easier to resell 6 months from now than some dude trying to sell some 8 year old card that looks beat up and doesn't come with any of the retail packaging.

Not a PC gamer, use my computer to design with 3D programs and some animation work using After Effects. My old graphics card died a few months ago and while I don't mind spending $600+ on a new GPU I've gone and ordered one of these to tick me over for the next 6-12 months while the prices drop again on the higher end cards, letting my budget go further. I think a lot of other people will be buying this for exactly the same reason, a temporary affordable card that fills a hole for the time being.

For $350 I rather buy a Xbox Series S with 3 months of Gamepass Ultimate as its super easy to find at MSRP. The 6500xt is a curious oddity and the Power Color version meant for ITX cases (single cooling fan version) is interesting if it can be bought for MSRP at $199. The reason why the 6500 XT has only two display outs are due to it being a laptop part put into a desktop card. The other limitations might also come from it being a laptop part as well. If the product wasn't priced at $269 and came out at $150, it might have been fine. I do think AMD does deserve all the thrashing they are getting right now though. It just isn't a $200 card. The OEM 5300 part beats it and that thing is a few years old.

First review I saw with some fps results in Apex legends , Call of duty Vanguard/warzone and Helo infinity(the only 3 games I play on pc) with my 950 oc edition still..I must say the card don't disappoint me..110fps on high settings and 1080p in apex would be around 140fps on competitive settings that's not bad for a card of that price . Specially if you know I reach only between 50 and 70 fps on my gtx950oc.. Warzone/vanguard , a nice 80fps isn't to bad and helo above 60 is the less but still a decent playable fps , I can't even run hello with my 2gb card right now, so for me personally with the high prices on the market I think it would be a nice upgrade till the prices go down a bit again..

If you happen to have a Ryzen 3100, 3300x (if you were the in the 100 worldwide to get a 3300x), 3600 which supoprt PCIe Gen 4, you can build a cheap system.
    B520 board currently on Amazon Warehouse for £45 with PCIe 4. £35 8gb DDR4 3000, £40 Corsair 500w bronze PSU, £42 500gb NVME, £50 case, £35 1TB HDD. RX 6500XT for £199 from Overclockers at the moment.
£247 + CPU (getting a CPU is the problem at the moment).
Although if you have an existing 3100, 3600 etc system without a reasonable graphics card, consider just getting a B520/B550 for £45-60 to replace your existing motherboard and an RX6500XT for £199. That adds up to around £250 for the graphics card which will be on a par with a new 500XT or 1650 Super both typically going for over £400. Maybe you can sell your old motherboard and make some of that back.
This card sucks as does the whole market, but for some lucky people with Gen 4 capability - it is by far the best (only) new option for budget 1080p gaming keeping texture quality down a notch.

There is zero competition for this GPU right now, buying used isn't what everyone wants to do, far from it actually. Maybe pair it with something like an i3 10100F (unless AMD lowers their prices for Zen 2 and 3), even thought Comet Lake doesn't support PCIe 4.0.

Newegg has a B660 board and a 12100F available for under $300 right now for the pair... PCIe Gen 4 and better gaming performance than a R5 3600...

You are literally going to get worse than Rx 570 performance with a 10100f because of PCIe 3 😂

If you're going to get scammed and buy this garbage card, please, PLEASE buy at minimum a cpu and motherboard that supports PCIe 4.

the thing about companies like nvidia and amd that really makes me mad is dropping support for still not too bad cards during this time where prices are extreme. an r9 fury x gets 20 fps in halo infinite without modded drivers. and getting modded drivers on older cards may cause problems with anti cheat software in some games. there is still so much performance in unsupported cards but they drop support allthough no one is able to get a new card. and then they're giving us something like an rx 6500XT.
