I hope that's true. But gamers are so desperate I forsee them buying these junk cards for 500 plus dollars and being pissed when they go to play a game. Especially when they install it on an older system with gen 3
Boggles the mind that they made a budget GPU that runs like crap on PCIe3, which is what you’d expect for many budget systems. All they had to do is make the slot use 8 lanes.
navi 24 was designed for low end laptops. 4pcie lanes are more than fine for that and you cant change that anymore. Designing a new die would have cost tens of millions and delayed the card by at least 3-6 month. AMD had the option to ship this or nothing and its literately the only card in that price segment at all.

same got a 2080 and a i9 back in 2018 ish i did pay full price but its still better then what i would get these days. my computer is still running fine with a little maintenance. it will probs still work fine in 4-5 years
Honestly, this card doesn't make sense purely and simply because it uses too much power. Like yall said, if they could have made a single slot x16 link version that didn't need external power, this would have been an incredible card for people repurposing office PCs like the GTX 1050 was
That and the fact that there are only two display port outs, that's quite odd, though most office PC's are one or two displays, and you can technically use integrated graphics for the third (though this will mean no office machines with e.g. a 5600X, which would be a bummer as the successor is probably my next upgrade at the office).
this is the only card amd could ship in large numbers. Navi 24 was never designed for desktops, its a low end laptop gpu. The die was designed long ago, you cant just change it to add features like 8 or 16 pcie lanes there weren't required on laptop. Also the reason its not that efficient is that they basically just clocked the fuck out of that tiny chip. AMDs option was to ship either this or nothing and yeah the price might suck but AMD is actually making significantly less profit on those chips than usual, the cost of producing the cards is just significantly higher right now. Shipping is expansive, RAM is expensive, boards are expensive, ...
Well that is true, and all they had to do was to reduced the clock target and it would have been possible and excellent for that use case. But then again people would still complain when there are no other gpus available at decent prices and lowering the clock speed would reduce the performance even further.

based on specs (64 bit bus, 16CUs, 2 display outputs) this is just a GT 1030/RX 550 successor that's squished some performance by overclocking the hell out of it
Sadly the pandemic has fucked up a lot of stuff that lead to this GPU pricing so high. Not only is the market inflated but silicon and shipping costs are expensive right now so I doubt AMD is making much off these cards really.
This video really failed to an accurate review on the RX 6500 XT. This card is the best budget gaming card today & if people took time to understand its design they would realize its a perfect card for 1080p & does pretty good on 2K.
It feels like this card was really designed for the "entry level" budget gaming systems at places like bestbuy. Where by association with their higher end counterparts they sell these lower end systems to people who don't really know the difference and assume performance scales in a linear fashion. It also explains the two display outs and lack media engine as those features seem to be an easier way of differentiating from higher end "streaming ready" prebuilt desktops.
The issue comes to, "elitism". As an example, I'd buy this for my studio PC. It has a gtx660 in it now. Granted I don't need GPU power as it's only used for music recording and editing. But there's also the rest of the world that doesn't have the same gdp as the us/can/eu. And for those folks 1080p is where they sit and where things are affordable and attainable. But since this doesn't get 7k fps in CSGO at 16k resolution then its an useless GPU right? Nah, but that's what they make entry level cards to be. Hell like he said this can be similar to a 1070 in some cases which not long ago people were nutting over.
The thing is, the RX580 on the used market now costs around $400. I wonder how much this one is gonna cost. You're shitting me. I got my 570 4GB at $120 local price three years ago. That's how bad the market has gotten? New stuff, I get, $600 for RX6600 is absurd but it's new and we aren't exactly first class country here, but 580 at $400? God, I went from "I feel like I wasted my money buying a PC," to "I am so glad I already bought a PC."
I'm so thankful to have finally gotten my own card (2060 super) via buying a prebuilt. Rest of the parts ended up being put to use as a media server. It's rough seeing just how bad these new cards are and still seeing them sell out immediately because there's just not enough cards.
Maybe this should've been the RX 6400... 4 GB of VRAM, 4 PCIe lanes, only as performant as a card released over 4 years ago, and will probably actually cost $400.

The problem is the current market. A used GTX 1060 goes for more then this on MSRP. The question is, can you get it at MSRP. The current GPU market is completly stupid.
I get my gaming pc 1 month ago. Ryzen 5 5500, 16gb 2666mhz and rx 6500 xt (pci-e 3.0). I'm loving this, I'm playing warzone at 100 fps, gta v at ultra settings with more than 80 fps... I know that it's a low-end gpu, but I'm really enjoying. The real problem of this card it's her price, I live in Brazil and the price of pc stuff here it's very expensive... I'll try to upgrade to an rtx 3060 next year, I didn't see much performance difference between mine and rtx 2060
I bought a 5500 XT 8gb for $160 right before the GPU crisis. I've since acquired a 5700 XT, but knowing that my old card is way, way faster than this card is frustrating to say the least.

I feel like gpus didn't really improve that much for dollar for the last 5 years, before in tech we used to get better products at a lower price as newer products come out, now to get better performance you need to pay more, and the price keeps inflating.
Yeah, I noticed this too. It's why it took me so long to upgrade, begrudgingly bought an 8gb rx580 for about 180 and now PC building in general is a completely alien landscape to how it's been the past 13 years.

@@onslaught147 Prices were inflating well before the pandemic. Diminishing returns combined with increased profit margin and the emergence of crypto mining have already caused prices to explode. The demand will eventually die down which will help prices a little bit, but not entirely. The 1080ti was the last great cost-effective card at $700. Two generations later, the MSRP of the 3080ti is $1299, the 3090 $1500. don't expect the top end to go under 1000 ever again because now Nvidia knows what they can get away with.
Maybe a wierd take on this video, but I'm loving the 1070 and rx580 being in the slides. It honestly makes sense these days since these cards are still going for high end prices due to the shortage.

That gpu is a bottleneck for sure , in pci 3.0 means a struggle , a d in 4.0 it will bottleneck any cpu , not a single win scenario. To buy this gpu you will need a new motherboard , and dualchannel rams / cpu... not worth.
honestly, would prefer to see how it performs in a realistic scenario. give it a PCI-E 3.0 motherboard with a intel CPU so we can see if the performance really tanks without the infinity cache and PCI-E 4.0, because anyone who spends enough to have both of those in their system most likely has a faster gpu in their old..

Damn I love my 1070 from 2016 so much these days. I got a huge scare the other day because it started SCREEEECHING so bad. I just put tape on the fan that is broken and it still works perfectly with its 2 remaining fans. Hope it will live for another few years until everything goes back to normal

Another RX480, neat. That "cool underdog" in AMD that everyone wants to succeed is slipping away, and their reputation for offering competitive GPUs at amazing price points is long dead. You know 2022 is gonna be a messed up year, if we're desperate enough to rely on Intel to shake things up a bit.

It's just me or Anthony has been looseing up in front on the camera the last year? He acts way more natural now. Way to go Anthony! Now, going onto the 6500 XT. Why in the seven hells would you add only 4 PCIe lanes but still leave ray tracing on the card? Ray tracing hardware in such a low end card doesn't make sense since it's going to run anything that uses ray tracing like crap. Removing RT and using that budget to add better memory bandwidth and PCIe lanes would have been a way better idea.

The card was meant for laptop, but because of shipping constraints, they decided to make a desktop gpu that would be easy to ship to AIBs because the chip is over twice as small and less power hungry, but then also, they can’t just add more things as these chips are designed months in advanced, so it would cost the millions of dollars to redesign it, something don’t want to do when they actuallly aren’t making money on it.

I get this was a repurposed GPU, but then why ship it as a desktop GPU and charge such a price for a product that is clearly inferior to products released half a decade ago? If anything they should have spend a bit longer on development and adapt it to work with at least 8 lanes and have the encoder as any other card does. I can't just make a Nissan GTR, ask full price for it and then, when the buyers complain about the car not being half as fast as it should and having cheap suspension say that "Oh, it was supposed to be a Nissan Versa but we decided we better put a GTR Chassis and sell it as a GTR. You can't complain because it wasn't a GTR at first".
trying to build a new pc in 2022 is so soul crushing. i've been using a 750ti for about 3-4 years because it's what i could afford at the time. now, i finally have the money to build something decent and prices are absolutely insane, and new releases just aren't worth it.
Don't feel bad as I have a Powercolor Red Dragon AMD RX 560 4GB OC card in my main rig(not the cut down version, and I paid all of $65 for it used a few years ago) of which I've seen people asking nearly it's MSRP for broken cards, plus with AMD releasing cards like the RX 6500XT that arn't much of an upgrade unless you are running something like an AMD R7 240/250 2GB card(even then I would just keep it, and play at 720p instead of buying into this mess), scalpers keeping prices even more crazy high if you want to go Nvidia(not me as a Linux user), why even bother upgrading at this point?? I will just keep gaming at 1080p 75Hz, and adjust my settings as needed, or play older games, or indie titles that don't require as demanding of resources.
I bought the Rx580 two years ago. I was considering 1070's but the 580s were going for $200cad and 1070s were over $350cad. Was hoping for a 3070 but I still get 60fps 1080p and bogs down to 30fps on the heavy end. Running a 3700x. I play mostly sim and open world.

The old Quadro P4000 can hold its own in a single slot and can be found affordably, still needs PCI-E power though as it has about the same power budget as this card.
The RX 6400 would fit the bill, albeit at even lower performance levels (Though that would mitigate some on the bandwidth issues simply because the actual performance would be the bottleneck). Sadly, those cards are destined for OEM PC's.
I think the best card released in the last 3 or so years without an external power is the GTX 1650, though some AIB versions do require power have to look for the specific versions that don't. If you're specifically looking for a small card without the external power that's going to be your best bet. As a bonus that one supports the full x16 PCIe and has encoding and decoding.
That's a big price cut even if it did run off PCI power 🤣 Even then I would picture it as an add on to nongaming prebuilt systems but then the included PSU in those systems would still need to comfortably provide the power even it didn't need 6/8 pin gpu headers. Furthermore I feel like nongaming gaming desktops are getting replaced more and more by laptops, especially outside the office/work space. Also a lot of PC that fall into this category would require low profile PCI brackets/devices.

I recently needed to purchase a pair of RTX 3090s for GPU rendering. I was shocked to discover the Quadro equivalent RTX A5000 costs exactly the same, even a little cheaper right now. Fully featured and binned Quadros are literally cheaper than the equivalent gaming cards. How is this not price gouging.
i live in central europe, we earn 1/3 of us wages, and i am blue collar worker.. i had saved up money to eventually buy a 3070 at msrp... but we got fu.. and i am a principled man, i rather dont play new games for 2-3 years on pc ( even buy a PS5 at some point) then let other people take advantage of me.. i wont be milked by any of the greedy MOFOS out there...

This card sounds alarmingly similar to the AMD card I'm using from 2014. Even the memory problems where it has performance problems while loading but plenty fast once it's all in video memory.
@@theobvu I don't think so. The test bench that Anthony is using has 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16 memory and a PCIe 4.0-compatible Corsair Force MP600, and the 6500 XT still stutters. I think that these issues are caused by the GPU memory.
Back then when i was speccing my PC for a college related gift in like... 2017...? I was originally about to put a 1050ti in it, but i noticed the RX 470 4GB is only 10 USD more (oh gosh remember that). Yeah it was the Sapphire blower card, but it's a deal, so i got that instead 2022, and i pray, i ｐｒａｙ that my RX 470 can still serve me good LOL. Yeah, i can't game at 1080p all the time (had to drop to 900p), but i'm still grateful that card still works 🙏
As prices are (supposedly) coming down, I recently looked up some performance ratings from a local hardware reviewer, and did some basic Price/Performance calculations using current (Swedish) brick and mortar retail prices. For my use case, the 6500XT ended up with a score around 65, while both the 6600 and 6600 XT were sitting at around 60-62. In other words, despite the feature-flaying, the 6500XT is currently 5-10% more expensive in terms of price/performance relative to the "workhorses". And that's assuming you're on PCI-E 4.0
Damn, the RX 580 is an amazing GPU. I went for the 1650 Super instead because it was on a discount at the time, but I do envy those 8 gigs of VRAM since I'm gaming at 1440p (60Hz). Both were good deals a few years ago (even though the 580 wasn't fresh on the market already)
I got my rx 580 used for 150 bucks from a big miner's machine when crypto was looking like it was a miss in 2019. Probably the single best purchase I've done, since prices have inflated to thrice what it was. I do envy Cuda tho...
So AMD is targeting this GPU towards people with older GPUs But did they seriously just disregard the fact that most of them don't have a PCIe 4. Capable system and thus can't even use this GPUs max potential?

@@giovannipomarico2035 exactly what i'm saying, give it 8lanes for the gigatons of gen3 boards out there which most of the target audience has, make it 8gigs at a 128bit bus and e voilá you got a serious entry level gaming card that fits all that could need or want it, but this is just cheap garbage.
They target it at people with older GPUs that apparently are faster than this thing. That's the real stupidity about this. You'd have to go to pre-polaris models for this to be an actual upgrade. Although I'd wager even my old 390 would still beat it. And that's a 28nm 2015 card. And let's be real: you won't get this GPU for sub 300 bucks. So there is no point. DOA.
It's clearly not for enthusiasts, but I suppose if a kid is building their first system and in need of a card that they're not expecting too much out of, this could work out for them.
I’m really starting to think that AMD’s only good GPU releases this generation were the 6800, 6800 XT, and 6900 XT. I guess the Navi 21 was just a better chip than anything else they made. They were all competitive at MSRP, now the new budget card isn’t even competitive against scalped cards

As a 3rd world PC enthusiast I welcome any attempt from AMD or Nvidia to make a 200 dollar card, at the very least this will force nvidias hand to start competing in the 200 dollar range again. The RX 6000 and RTX 3000 series felt like the death of the budget market to us, and this is a welcome sign of hope. Nobody scalps in countries where people are too poor to buy a high markup, so the price will be close to 200 too.

I'm so happy I bought my 1080 Ti when I did. It's still pulling strong in most games, even at 1440p, and I'm prob gonna be happy with it still for a long time. And if the prices haven't come down once it's obsolote well... Honestly it might be time to switch to consoles.

Replaced my 1070 with a 1080 Ti and switched to an open loop in 09/2018 and payed only 470€ for the 1080 Ti while getting 220€ for the 1070. today my 1660super in the living room rig I bought in January 2020 for 230€ would cost me more than my 1080 Ti. This thing is going all the way through this shortage with us!

8:30 The GTX 1650 (non-super, in its original GDDR5 config) is in fact the only modern GPU without external power requirements. Although it's not that good, I got it cheaper than this card when it came out. I think a comparison with it would've been nice.

I just sold my rx480 8gb i been using for 3 years its showing mega signs of age now for anything newer than 2020 made. I got a evga 3060 in que and i love it great for 2k gaming.
The state of the GPU market makes me thankful for my golden goose of GTX 1660 silicon. I think I'll be able to hold out considering that I can still run triple A games at high settings.
@@soonprobe2971 mine still gonna stay with me....i bought mine back in the day when there's also a major GPU shortage because of the mining boom too....i got a deal back in the day for a complete system with it..an i7 7700 and a 480 for a good price i couldn't remember how much it is but all i know is that.. the full PC is much cheaper than any prebuilts at t he time... it is still good for 1080p for most games.....now im just gonna wait until my new GPU arrives...my poor 3700x is waiting for an upgrade for a GPU companion so long LOOOL...i got a good deal for RTX 2060 i got mine for around 450 USD if i convert PHP peso.... :D also gonna wait until PSU prices comes back from heaven

Sadly it doesn't. The OC sliders are easily maxed out at just 150 MHz more and all sliders maxed out which is easy, was just 3.5% more performance in TPU review.
I remember having a geforce MX4000, a 32bit bus (!) videocard that had an absurd memory overclocking capability. i could basically turn it into an effective 64bit card by doubling the memory clock.
I bought a prebuild pc in the first quarter of the year that contains a i3-10100F and a rx 6500 xt with a single fan. It runs great i didn't have problems with drop/freeze frames, temperature always stays under 67 degrees celsuis. I've played long hours of Tarkov, Dayz, Rust, GTA V, The Crew 2, Forza Horion 5, CS:GO, Valorant, moded Minecraft with shaders and high rez textures. My avarage fps in games that i care about quality like Fortza, Minecraft, The Crew, GTA V with medium to high settings is 70-100 fps. In Tarkov with medium settings i get 60-70, CS:GO and Valorant over 300, Dayz low settings over 120. For the 630 euros i did pay for it, it is great. If u are from a 3rd world country like, it is worth it.
The 1650 super with a lower msrp than the 6500 xt has the amazing nvenc hardware encoder. This card has no place in the market aside from milking the unavailability of everything else.
good luck getting a 1650 under$500 it also out preforms it in every way from what ive seen benchmark score wise vs my own machine with a 1650s in it (ryzen 5 1600x on a b450m with 16gb ddr4 300mhz ram) so i think it will be a good competitor in entry level gaming provided it is available for around MSRP price
Some quick feedback: the graphs were highly confusing to me. I couldn't tell which graphics cards were more high end, so it was really difficult to draw conclusions from them. Prices next to each graphics card would have been amazing.
Just see number of gpu. Nvidia: 1070 - First 2 digits show generation (8,9,10,20,30 latest), 10th generation and 70 means high end GPU. More Examples: gtx 730, rtx 2070 Super Last 2 digits: 10-30 office PCs 50-60 mid end/budget gaming cards 70-80 high end 90 Top tier Ti/Super : Cards which are slightly faster than their non ti/ non super models. In AMD, It's similar: rx 580, rx 6900 xt first digit: Generation (400,500,5000, 6000 latest) Last 2 digits: 10-40 Office PCs 50-60 budget gaming 60-70 mid end 70-90 high end XT: Faster than non-XT models. They usually don't write price because it changes with market and launch price lacks inflation, But also doesn't reflect actual cost in which majority of cards will be sold th. board making companies.
I know other channels have, but you should have also focused more on the PCIEX 3 VS 4 issue. This is an entry level card, aimed at entry level rigs who DO NOT have PCIEX 4. Did you guys forget that it wasn't just GPU prices that climbed sky high in the last year but also CPUs and motherboards, especially AMD ones? (PCIEX 4 being available MAINLY on AMD's side.) What budget/entry level gamer could afford 2x platform costs to get PCIEX4 this last year??

PCIe gen4 isnt even on the market for much more than 2 years by now. The relation of people running 3.0 to people running 4.0 is probably 90/10 right now and among people looking for a real budget GPu upgrade it is probably 98/2 or crazier. I wholeheartedly agree with the OP here! LTT dropped the ball on a review again! This review makes it look like this card is actually „ooookay - you know all GPUs are -meh- right now but it’s oooookay“ when in reality the 6500 XT is rock bottom. It’s an abomination and the probably worst new GPU of the last 10 full years! And as Steve from hardware unboxed put it correctly „there were really bad GPUs launched in that time period as for example the DDR4 GT1030 and the original 1650“ and this card makes even those look good by comparison. LTT has become so mainstream junk that their reviews are actually not worth the time to watch anymore. Consumers are failed by this if the rely on it. That shouldn’t happen! But I guess they are too focused making 19 new shirt designs within a week, gaming at 16384K resolution or developing even more silly 11year old humor for Riley to shout through every video… Linus keeps talking about his Labs and how he wants all this engineering work in-house at LTT - hey buddy: nail a GPU review before thinking about 10 times more complicated stuff would ya?

And with 6GB of VRAM, would become unobtainium because then it lands in "It can mine Crypto" territory. No, what we need is game devs to start making games that run very well in _LESS_ than 4GB of VRAM on PCs.
The RX580 8gb in my little bro's new PC is feeling like a great buy right now. We saw this thing coming up and waited to pull the trigger on a GPU for him, but when it came out with only 4gb of memory and no media encoding we went right for the 580. He's not doing any productivity work, but he is getting into streaming, so the encoders were a must-have.
And it's not that much cheaper than getting the same xfx 212 swift cooled RX6600 which is almost up there with the 3060. And that card is actually in stock quite a lot of times at reasonable markups compared to a 3060.
In Jan 2021 I bought a 1660 Super for $220 MSRP at microcenter, used it for a month until i could snatch up a 3080, then resold it for $330. Now I see the same cars going for $100 to $200 more than when i sold mine. Crazy lol

I miss the days when a video card could be purchased for about $50. This one might not make too much sense if comparing price to hardware specs / performance... But compared to my current ATI Radeon 9200SE card, this would be a massive upgrade.
I have a 6500 XT and play all the games I want with 65 FPS.. I truly needed a budget build with a budget graphic card and this is it . Granted I have -16 Gigs ram DDR4 3200, nvme 1TB , 5600X AMD processor with 6500 XT and I’m playing the exact same games as those with 6900 blah blah blah spending $800 but to each his own Good day
The lanes aren't that relevant though when the card can't saturate the bandwidth provided. x4 is too few though, as shown in the vid. x8 would have been a better choice.
@@dinokknd even still I'm saying that by 16 should be the standard no matter what. You always have the option to lower that in the bios but every card should be by 16 for sure
x4 lanes at gen 4.0 is perfectly fine for this GPU. The problem is with so little VRAM, it needs to use system memory, and that's where performance tanks.
@@CodyCombat Especially when all of Nvidia's cards are x16. On a PCIe gen 3 board, the 6500XT is literally worse than a 1650. 6500XT is ewaste out of the box.
This is a budget video card. If you have a motherboard with PCIe 4.0, then this card won't be terrible, at least for older games, especially if you run them at 1080p.
The RX570/RX470 didn't suck. It was very impressive for the price at the time. And a lot better than the 6500XT. The RX570 was also available with 8GB VRAM and PCIe 3.0 X16. Unlike the 6500 Xtra Terrible. A waste of wafers.
This card seems very similar to the rx 480 given the price and performance (with gen4 6500xt is usually faster, gen3 can be slower), the only issue is that they are selling it for the same price but the 480 came out nearly 6 years ago.
Total aside, but this video really shows how flexible the LTT condo set is as a concept. Move some props around, turn the desk, change the camera angle, and adjust the color of the lights, and it looks completely different without straying far enough from "the look" to feel out of place.
Well if you can get one at MSRP, put it into an older office machine and BOOM - simple gaming rig. Having new components with warranty seems enough for me to be a selling point actually. Edit: RTX3050 is the way to go..
This is a big step backwards. Going straight back to 2016 with GPU performance. Only people who might benefit from this are people building a low end budget PC for 1080p gaming and I guess that's all we are gonna get.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. When the 6500XT came out, cards of equal performance (RX5500,1650S) cost $500. 1660's offer lasted a few minutes at most. Benchmarks done like this don't make sense: if there is a 4GB Vbuffer you have to adjust the settings accordingly, and this means that most titles you can keep everything at ultra/high and only lower the textures. The best titles released in 2022 (Warzone 2, A plague tale Requiem, GOW R, Horizon FW) all run between 50 and 70 FPS in High @1440p (FSR Ultra Quality/FSR2 Quality). Without considering that for the same economic value Nvidia released the GTX 1630 "Superpower in gaming" (as per the site) or the GTX 1650, and there was no mention here. In short, this seems like a crusade to me (which stinks of sponsorship)
RX 5500 & 1650s are not equal to the 6500 XT. The 6500 XT is 20-25% better in gaming performance than those you mentioned. The truth is the issues reviewers had with this card had nothing to do with gaming. Also the 6500 XT is pcie 4 & will lose 20-25% performance on a pcie 3 slot. The thing I find really impressive is the power draw & thermals. The chip they used was a mobile design & I've yet to get mine over 60c. I bought the 4 gig version but there's an 8 gig as well. Its a budget card that come out over priced because of the market on all gpus & it has went down like all the rest.
Would have been nice to see this compared to a 1050/1050ti being more what people would have upgraded from something to this, although the pci issue means its no good for most budget builds anyway
Check the hardware Unboxed review - they are the better source for reviews of thorough nature anyway. TLDR: with PCIe 4.0 this thing is close to being a 1650Super but not really, with PCIe 3.0 it gets beaten across the board by an RX570 and is at times as slow as the 1050 Ti itself. Horrible card
I'll be holding on to my 1050ti. It's still playing all my games albeit not at 200+ fps but my gsync 1080 monitor only tops out at 75 anyway while in sync mode. Good enough for now.
The only low profile cards without a 6pin in the last few years I can recall is some versions of the GTX 1650, some AIB versions have the connector so you have to shop around, but with 4GB VRAM, encoding and decoding and the full PCIe x16 slot, it's pretty good for those kinds of builds. As a bonus, many of the low profile versions also had a DVI port, which made it great for CRT setups.
What do you mean the RX 570 "kinda sucked on it's own"? It was a brilliant card that offered good performance at reasonable prices. Before the current situation, you could get one for less than 70 euros where i live, there were even 8GB models going for less than 90 euros, used of course. New ones used to cost less than 180 euros. This card's got nothing on the 570.
It’s a brand new GPU and a tiny 107mm2 die. They can produce 564 of these per wafer, and with 4GB miners won’t buy it. It isn’t a great GPU, but it is going to be in stock a ton more than any other GPU. I could have bought a 6500xt at $200 for the hour after launch. This is a hold over card so you can sell your old dying GPU or selling your newer GPU for a profit. This is the Navi 24 die, it is originally for laptop only, they just pushed it super hard to work for desktops. That is the reason it is limited to only 4 PCIe lanes. Sure, you can buy a old GPU, but when will they die? Not be supported anymore? Regarding the RTX 3050 8GB… why do you think they put 8GB? Because miners will eat these up in the mining SKUs, what reason would Nvidia have to sell the GA106 die cut down 33-40%? They are going to sell those GA106 dies for their CMP and laptops. How many 2060 12GB have you seen? Nearly 0 because it is a mining card.

It sold out almost instantly on Newegg and almost all the AIB prices are well above the MSRP. Hell, even the *$359* model is sold out. That's a new level of depressing considering that it actually loses to the *1050Ti* in some benchmarks over on HUB.
Well, I think rx 6500xt might be a better deal for me as its a lot cheaper than gtx 1660 💀 Rx 6500 xt: $180 Gtx 1600: $320 I think it's a better deal for value in my area/country.
Now only the RTX 3050 will fill the "budget" builds for the next couple of years. Looking at some leak specs it should be either lower, on par or better as the RTX 2060. Definitely will wait for all major reviews launching soon.
Suprisingly the 3060ti is actually the best card of this generation with its given MSRP. Best bang for buck... Sadly it isnt being sold at its msrp though...
@@aliabdelaziz7585 true. According to Optimum Tech it's sold closer to MSRP than any of the 30 series graphic cards. So if the product is 399, expect between 429-550 per card. Which is still better than the 3070s costing to the thousands.

Tbf out of todays standpoint, prices are comparably low, now you get that thing for 170 Euro, and that´s a hella bang for the buck compared to the GTX 16xx lineup. It´s definetly enough for most people out there.
They were able to do more for a worldwide pandemic the past 2+ years than Nvidia has been able to do for GPU availability. I don't understand why there isn't some sort of regulatory body that can say "hey, you said you've got a product for sale but the product hasn't been available in any store for the past 2 years. Either create availability or stop making false claims" At least then, we'd have a solid case for some other company to get into the business instead of this weird duopoly of Nvidia vs ATI.
They don't work just look at the FCC or the FDA. They get stepped on like a door mat. There is so many problems with failure and favors with those two alone.

Boggles the mind that they made a budget GPU that runs like crap on PCIe3, which is what you’d expect for many budget systems. All they had to do is make the slot use 8 lanes.
navi 24 was designed for low end laptops. 4pcie lanes are more than fine for that and you cant change that anymore. Designing a new die would have cost tens of millions and delayed the card by at least 3-6 month. AMD had the option to ship this or nothing and its literately the only card in that price segment at all.
Edit: saw the reviews, and the performance hit averages 13% on Gen3, which is significant, and differs from my personal experience (albeit with different cards). Thanks to everyone who corrected me. Though I still don't think it's the card's worst feature

Honestly, this card doesn't make sense purely and simply because it uses too much power. Like yall said, if they could have made a single slot x16 link version that didn't need external power, this would have been an incredible card for people repurposing office PCs like the GTX 1050 was
That and the fact that there are only two display port outs, that's quite odd, though most office PC's are one or two displays, and you can technically use integrated graphics for the third (though this will mean no office machines with e.g. a 5600X, which would be a bummer as the successor is probably my next upgrade at the office).
this is the only card amd could ship in large numbers. Navi 24 was never designed for desktops, its a low end laptop gpu. The die was designed long ago, you cant just change it to add features like 8 or 16 pcie lanes there weren't required on laptop. Also the reason its not that efficient is that they basically just clocked the fuck out of that tiny chip. AMDs option was to ship either this or nothing and yeah the price might suck but AMD is actually making significantly less profit on those chips than usual, the cost of producing the cards is just significantly higher right now. Shipping is expansive, RAM is expensive, boards are expensive, ...
Well that is true, and all they had to do was to reduced the clock target and it would have been possible and excellent for that use case. But then again people would still complain when there are no other gpus available at decent prices and lowering the clock speed would reduce the performance even further.
I am half-expecting a RX 6500 (non-XT) with a 70W power draw for that segment. Lower clocks and a power cap is all it would need to be viable.

Probably would have been $150 with more features if the pandemic didn't happen this was going to be the golden era of GPU performance per dollar now it's the golden era of selling
based on specs (64 bit bus, 16CUs, 2 display outputs) this is just a GT 1030/RX 550 successor that's squished some performance by overclocking the hell out of it
Sadly the pandemic has fucked up a lot of stuff that lead to this GPU pricing so high. Not only is the market inflated but silicon and shipping costs are expensive right now so I doubt AMD is making much off these cards really.
This video really failed to an accurate review on the RX 6500 XT. This card is the best budget gaming card today & if people took time to understand its design they would realize its a perfect card for 1080p & does pretty good on 2K.
For the price it's very good
It feels like this card was really designed for the "entry level" budget gaming systems at places like bestbuy. Where by association with their higher end counterparts they sell these lower end systems to people who don't really know the difference and assume performance scales in a linear fashion. It also explains the two display outs and lack media engine as those features seem to be an easier way of differentiating from higher end "streaming ready" prebuilt desktops.

As an example, I'd buy this for my studio PC. It has a gtx660 in it now. Granted I don't need GPU power as it's only used for music recording and editing.
But there's also the rest of the world that doesn't have the same gdp as the us/can/eu. And for those folks 1080p is where they sit and where things are affordable and attainable.
But since this doesn't get 7k fps in CSGO at 16k resolution then its an useless GPU right? Nah, but that's what they make entry level cards to be. Hell like he said this can be similar to a 1070 in some cases which not long ago people were nutting over.

New stuff, I get, $600 for RX6600 is absurd but it's new and we aren't exactly first class country here, but 580 at $400? God, I went from "I feel like I wasted my money buying a PC," to "I am so glad I already bought a PC."
I'm so thankful to have finally gotten my own card (2060 super) via buying a prebuilt. Rest of the parts ended up being put to use as a media server. It's rough seeing just how bad these new cards are and still seeing them sell out immediately because there's just not enough cards.
Maybe this should've been the RX 6400... 4 GB of VRAM, 4 PCIe lanes, only as performant as a card released over 4 years ago, and will probably actually cost $400.

The problem is the current market. A used GTX 1060 goes for more then this on MSRP. The question is, can you get it at MSRP. The current GPU market is completly stupid.

I get my gaming pc 1 month ago. Ryzen 5 5500, 16gb 2666mhz and rx 6500 xt (pci-e 3.0). I'm loving this, I'm playing warzone at 100 fps, gta v at ultra settings with more than 80 fps... I know that it's a low-end gpu, but I'm really enjoying. The real problem of this card it's her price, I live in Brazil and the price of pc stuff here it's very expensive... I'll try to upgrade to an rtx 3060 next year, I didn't see much performance difference between mine and rtx 2060

@@onslaught147 Prices were inflating well before the pandemic. Diminishing returns combined with increased profit margin and the emergence of crypto mining have already caused prices to explode. The demand will eventually die down which will help prices a little bit, but not entirely.
The 1080ti was the last great cost-effective card at $700. Two generations later, the MSRP of the 3080ti is $1299, the 3090 $1500. don't expect the top end to go under 1000 ever again because now Nvidia knows what they can get away with.

That gpu is a bottleneck for sure , in pci 3.0 means a struggle , a d in 4.0 it will bottleneck any cpu , not a single win scenario. To buy this gpu you will need a new motherboard , and dualchannel rams / cpu... not worth.

honestly, would prefer to see how it performs in a realistic scenario. give it a PCI-E 3.0 motherboard with a intel CPU so we can see if the performance really tanks without the infinity cache and PCI-E 4.0, because anyone who spends enough to have both of those in their system most likely has a faster gpu in their old..

Damn I love my 1070 from 2016 so much these days. I got a huge scare the other day because it started SCREEEECHING so bad. I just put tape on the fan that is broken and it still works perfectly with its 2 remaining fans. Hope it will live for another few years until everything goes back to normal

Now, going onto the 6500 XT. Why in the seven hells would you add only 4 PCIe lanes but still leave ray tracing on the card? Ray tracing hardware in such a low end card doesn't make sense since it's going to run anything that uses ray tracing like crap. Removing RT and using that budget to add better memory bandwidth and PCIe lanes would have been a way better idea.

The card was meant for laptop, but because of shipping constraints, they decided to make a desktop gpu that would be easy to ship to AIBs because the chip is over twice as small and less power hungry, but then also, they can’t just add more things as these chips are designed months in advanced, so it would cost the millions of dollars to redesign it, something don’t want to do when they actuallly aren’t making money on it.

I get this was a repurposed GPU, but then why ship it as a desktop GPU and charge such a price for a product that is clearly inferior to products released half a decade ago? If anything they should have spend a bit longer on development and adapt it to work with at least 8 lanes and have the encoder as any other card does.
I can't just make a Nissan GTR, ask full price for it and then, when the buyers complain about the car not being half as fast as it should and having cheap suspension say that "Oh, it was supposed to be a Nissan Versa but we decided we better put a GTR Chassis and sell it as a GTR. You can't complain because it wasn't a GTR at first".
trying to build a new pc in 2022 is so soul crushing. i've been using a 750ti for about 3-4 years because it's what i could afford at the time. now, i finally have the money to build something decent and prices are absolutely insane, and new releases just aren't worth it.
Don't feel bad as I have a Powercolor Red Dragon AMD RX 560 4GB OC card in my main rig(not the cut down version, and I paid all of $65 for it used a few years ago) of which I've seen people asking nearly it's MSRP for broken cards, plus with AMD releasing cards like the RX 6500XT that arn't much of an upgrade unless you are running something like an AMD R7 240/250 2GB card(even then I would just keep it, and play at 720p instead of buying into this mess), scalpers keeping prices even more crazy high if you want to go Nvidia(not me as a Linux user), why even bother upgrading at this point?? I will just keep gaming at 1080p 75Hz, and adjust my settings as needed, or play older games, or indie titles that don't require as demanding of resources.
I bought the Rx580 two years ago. I was considering 1070's but the 580s were going for $200cad and 1070s were over $350cad.
Was hoping for a 3070 but I still get 60fps 1080p and bogs down to 30fps on the heavy end.

The old Quadro P4000 can hold its own in a single slot and can be found affordably, still needs PCI-E power though as it has about the same power budget as this card.

The RX 6400 would fit the bill, albeit at even lower performance levels (Though that would mitigate some on the bandwidth issues simply because the actual performance would be the bottleneck). Sadly, those cards are destined for OEM PC's.
If you wanna upgrade your gpu for cheap, just lower the resolution by one notch and pretend you lost your glasses.
If this card cost only $130 and required no external power it would've been unique and compelling.
I think the best card released in the last 3 or so years without an external power is the GTX 1650, though some AIB versions do require power have to look for the specific versions that don't. If you're specifically looking for a small card without the external power that's going to be your best bet. As a bonus that one supports the full x16 PCIe and has encoding and decoding.
That's a big price cut even if it did run off PCI power 🤣 Even then I would picture it as an add on to nongaming prebuilt systems but then the included PSU in those systems would still need to comfortably provide the power even it didn't need 6/8 pin gpu headers. Furthermore I feel like nongaming gaming desktops are getting replaced more and more by laptops, especially outside the office/work space. Also a lot of PC that fall into this category would require low profile PCI brackets/devices.

I recently needed to purchase a pair of RTX 3090s for GPU rendering. I was shocked to discover the Quadro equivalent RTX A5000 costs exactly the same, even a little cheaper right now. Fully featured and binned Quadros are literally cheaper than the equivalent gaming cards. How is this not price gouging.

This card sounds alarmingly similar to the AMD card I'm using from 2014. Even the memory problems where it has performance problems while loading but plenty fast once it's all in video memory.

@@theobvu I don't think so. The test bench that Anthony is using has 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16 memory and a PCIe 4.0-compatible Corsair Force MP600, and the 6500 XT still stutters. I think that these issues are caused by the GPU memory.

Back then when i was speccing my PC for a college related gift in like... 2017...? I was originally about to put a 1050ti in it, but i noticed the RX 470 4GB is only 10 USD more (oh gosh remember that). Yeah it was the Sapphire blower card, but it's a deal, so i got that instead

Because typically you can get a 580 for the same price as a 480. Why not pay the same for 3% more performance.
As prices are (supposedly) coming down, I recently looked up some performance ratings from a local hardware reviewer, and did some basic Price/Performance calculations using current (Swedish) brick and mortar retail prices.
For my use case, the 6500XT ended up with a score around 65, while both the 6600 and 6600 XT were sitting at around 60-62.
In other words, despite the feature-flaying, the 6500XT is currently 5-10% more expensive in terms of price/performance relative to the "workhorses". And that's assuming you're on PCI-E 4.0

Damn, the RX 580 is an amazing GPU. I went for the 1650 Super instead because it was on a discount at the time, but I do envy those 8 gigs of VRAM since I'm gaming at 1440p (60Hz). Both were good deals a few years ago (even though the 580 wasn't fresh on the market already)

8x could have been okay, to ensure pcie gen 3 offers enough bandwidth, but 4x is really AMD cheaping out.

They target it at people with older GPUs that apparently are faster than this thing. That's the real stupidity about this. You'd have to go to pre-polaris models for this to be an actual upgrade. Although I'd wager even my old 390 would still beat it. And that's a 28nm 2015 card. And let's be real: you won't get this GPU for sub 300 bucks. So there is no point. DOA.
It's clearly not for enthusiasts, but I suppose if a kid is building their first system and in need of a card that they're not expecting too much out of, this could work out for them.

As a 3rd world PC enthusiast I welcome any attempt from AMD or Nvidia to make a 200 dollar card, at the very least this will force nvidias hand to start competing in the 200 dollar range again. The RX 6000 and RTX 3000 series felt like the death of the budget market to us, and this is a welcome sign of hope. Nobody scalps in countries where people are too poor to buy a high markup, so the price will be close to 200 too.
It'll probably take going back to normal before we really start to see them compete at the low end again.

I'm so happy I bought my 1080 Ti when I did. It's still pulling strong in most games, even at 1440p, and I'm prob gonna be happy with it still for a long time. And if the prices haven't come down once it's obsolote well... Honestly it might be time to switch to consoles.

Replaced my 1070 with a 1080 Ti and switched to an open loop in 09/2018 and payed only 470€ for the 1080 Ti while getting 220€ for the 1070. today my 1660super in the living room rig I bought in January 2020 for 230€ would cost me more than my 1080 Ti. This thing is going all the way through this shortage with us!

8:30 The GTX 1650 (non-super, in its original GDDR5 config) is in fact the only modern GPU without external power requirements. Although it's not that good, I got it cheaper than this card when it came out. I think a comparison with it would've been nice.

I just sold my rx480 8gb i been using for 3 years its showing mega signs of age now for anything newer than 2020 made. I got a evga 3060 in que and i love it great for 2k gaming.
The state of the GPU market makes me thankful for my golden goose of GTX 1660 silicon. I think I'll be able to hold out considering that I can still run triple A games at high settings.

I think memory overclocking will greatly benefit this card, much like the gt1030, another card with only a 64bit memory bus.

Sadly it doesn't. The OC sliders are easily maxed out at just 150 MHz more and all sliders maxed out which is easy, was just 3.5% more performance in TPU review.
I remember having a geforce MX4000, a 32bit bus (!) videocard that had an absurd memory overclocking capability. i could basically turn it into an effective 64bit card by doubling the memory clock.
I bought a prebuild pc in the first quarter of the year that contains a i3-10100F and a rx 6500 xt with a single fan. It runs great i didn't have problems with drop/freeze frames, temperature always stays under 67 degrees celsuis. I've played long hours of Tarkov, Dayz, Rust, GTA V, The Crew 2, Forza Horion 5, CS:GO, Valorant, moded Minecraft with shaders and high rez textures. My avarage fps in games that i care about quality like Fortza, Minecraft, The Crew, GTA V with medium to high settings is 70-100 fps. In Tarkov with medium settings i get 60-70, CS:GO and Valorant over 300, Dayz low settings over 120. For the 630 euros i did pay for it, it is great. If u are from a 3rd world country like, it is worth it.

The 1650 super with a lower msrp than the 6500 xt has the amazing nvenc hardware encoder. This card has no place in the market aside from milking the unavailability of everything else.
good luck getting a 1650 under$500 it also out preforms it in every way from what ive seen benchmark score wise vs my own machine with a 1650s in it (ryzen 5 1600x on a b450m with 16gb ddr4 300mhz ram) so i think it will be a good competitor in entry level gaming provided it is available for around MSRP price
And the 1650 doesn't need additional 6 pin power connector, unlike the 6500XT

Some quick feedback: the graphs were highly confusing to me. I couldn't tell which graphics cards were more high end, so it was really difficult to draw conclusions from them. Prices next to each graphics card would have been amazing.

They usually don't write price because it changes with market and launch price lacks inflation, But also doesn't reflect actual cost in which majority of cards will be sold th. board making companies.
I know other channels have, but you should have also focused more on the PCIEX 3 VS 4 issue. This is an entry level card, aimed at entry level rigs who DO NOT have PCIEX 4. Did you guys forget that it wasn't just GPU prices that climbed sky high in the last year but also CPUs and motherboards, especially AMD ones? (PCIEX 4 being available MAINLY on AMD's side.) What budget/entry level gamer could afford 2x platform costs to get PCIEX4 this last year??

PCIe gen4 isnt even on the market for much more than 2 years by now. I wholeheartedly agree with the OP here! LTT dropped the ball on a review again! This review makes it look like this card is actually „ooookay - you know all GPUs are -meh- right now but it’s oooookay“ when in reality the 6500 XT is rock bottom. It’s an abomination and the probably worst new GPU of the last 10 full years! And as Steve from hardware unboxed put it correctly „there were really bad GPUs launched in that time period as for example the DDR4 GT1030 and the original 1650“ and this card makes even those look good by comparison.
LTT has become so mainstream junk that their reviews are actually not worth the time to watch anymore. Consumers are failed by this if the rely on it. That shouldn’t happen! The RX580 8gb in my little bro's new PC is feeling like a great buy right now. We saw this thing coming up and waited to pull the trigger on a GPU for him, but when it came out with only 4gb of memory and no media encoding we went right for the 580. He's not doing any productivity work, but he is getting into streaming, so the encoders were a must-have.

In Jan 2021 I bought a 1660 Super for $220 MSRP at microcenter, used it for a month until i could snatch up a 3080, then resold it for $330. Now I see the same cars going for $100 to $200 more than when i sold mine. Crazy lol

Granted I have -16 Gigs ram DDR4 3200, nvme 1TB , 5600X AMD processor with 6500 XT and I’m playing the exact same games as those with 6900 blah blah blah spending $800 but to each his own

The lanes aren't that relevant though when the card can't saturate the bandwidth provided. x4 is too few though, as shown in the vid. x8 would have been a better choice.

x4 lanes at gen 4.0 is perfectly fine for this GPU. The problem is with so little VRAM, it needs to use system memory, and that's where performance tanks.

This is a budget video card. If you have a motherboard with PCIe 4.0, then this card won't be terrible, at least for older games, especially if you run them at 1080p.

The RX570/RX470 didn't suck. It was very impressive for the price at the time. And a lot better than the 6500XT. The RX570 was also available with 8GB VRAM and PCIe 3.0 X16. Unlike the 6500 Xtra Terrible. A waste of wafers.

This card seems very similar to the rx 480 given the price and performance (with gen4 6500xt is usually faster, gen3 can be slower), the only issue is that they are selling it for the same price but the 480 came out nearly 6 years ago.

Total aside, but this video really shows how flexible the LTT condo set is as a concept. Move some props around, turn the desk, change the camera angle, and adjust the color of the lights, and it looks completely different without straying far enough from "the look" to feel out of place.

This is a big step backwards. Going straight back to 2016 with GPU performance. Only people who might benefit from this are people building a low end budget PC for 1080p gaming and I guess that's all we are gonna get.
Worst part is, many of the GPUs from 2016 are way better than this one, especially on gen 3 boards.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. When the 6500XT came out, cards of equal performance (RX5500,1650S) cost $500. 1660's offer lasted a few minutes at most. Benchmarks done like this don't make sense: if there is a 4GB Vbuffer you have to adjust the settings accordingly, and this means that most titles you can keep everything at ultra/high and only lower the textures. The best titles released in 2022 (Warzone 2, A plague tale Requiem, GOW R, Horizon FW) all run between 50 and 70 FPS in High @1440p (FSR Ultra Quality/FSR2 Quality). Without considering that for the same economic value Nvidia released the GTX 1630 "Superpower in gaming" (as per the site) or the GTX 1650, and there was no mention here. In short, this seems like a crusade to me (which stinks of sponsorship)
RX 5500 & 1650s are not equal to the 6500 XT. The 6500 XT is 20-25% better in gaming performance than those you mentioned. The truth is the issues reviewers had with this card had nothing to do with gaming. Also the 6500 XT is pcie 4 & will lose 20-25% performance on a pcie 3 slot. The thing I find really impressive is the power draw & thermals. The chip they used was a mobile design & I've yet to get mine over 60c. I bought the 4 gig version but there's an 8 gig as well. Its a budget card that come out over priced because of the market on all gpus & it has went down like all the rest.
Would have been nice to see this compared to a 1050/1050ti being more what people would have upgraded from something to this, although the pci issue means its no good for most budget builds anyway
Check the hardware Unboxed review - they are the better source for reviews of thorough nature anyway. TLDR: with PCIe 4.0 this thing is close to being a 1650Super but not really, with PCIe 3.0 it gets beaten across the board by an RX570 and is at times as slow as the 1050 Ti itself. Horrible card
I'll be holding on to my 1050ti. It's still playing all my games albeit not at 200+ fps but my gsync 1080 monitor only tops out at 75 anyway while in sync mode. Good enough for now.

This could've been a killer low-profile 75W card... but they went and added a 6-pin.
The only low profile cards without a 6pin in the last few years I can recall is some versions of the GTX 1650, some AIB versions have the connector so you have to shop around, but with 4GB VRAM, encoding and decoding and the full PCIe x16 slot, it's pretty good for those kinds of builds. As a bonus, many of the low profile versions also had a DVI port, which made it great for CRT setups.
What do you mean the RX 570 "kinda sucked on it's own"? It was a brilliant card that offered good performance at reasonable prices. Before the current situation, you could get one for less than 70 euros where i live, there were even 8GB models going for less than 90 euros, used of course. New ones used to cost less than 180 euros. This card's got nothing on the 570.

It’s a brand new GPU and a tiny 107mm2 die. They can produce 564 of these per wafer, and with 4GB miners won’t buy it. It isn’t a great GPU, but it is going to be in stock a ton more than any other GPU. I could have bought a 6500xt at $200 for the hour after launch. This is a hold over card so you can sell your old dying GPU or selling your newer GPU for a profit.
This is the Navi 24 die, it is originally for laptop only, they just pushed it super hard to work for desktops. That is the reason it is limited to only 4 PCIe lanes. Sure, you can buy a old GPU, but when will they die? Not be supported anymore? Regarding the RTX 3050 8GB… why do you think they put 8GB? Because miners will eat these up in the mining SKUs, what reason would Nvidia have to sell the GA106 die cut down 33-40%?
They are going to sell those GA106 dies for their CMP and laptops. How many 2060 12GB have you seen? Nearly 0 because it is a mining card.

I think it's a better deal for value in my area/country.
Now only the RTX 3050 will fill the "budget" builds for the next couple of years. Looking at some leak specs it should be either lower, on par or better as the RTX 2060. Definitely will wait for all major reviews launching soon.

Tbf out of todays standpoint, prices are comparably low, now you get that thing for 170 Euro, and that´s a hella bang for the buck compared to the GTX 16xx lineup. It´s definetly enough for most people out there.
They were able to do more for a worldwide pandemic the past 2+ years than Nvidia has been able to do for GPU availability. I don't understand why there isn't some sort of regulatory body that can say "hey, you said you've got a product for sale but the product hasn't been available in any store for the past 2 years. Either create availability or stop making false claims" At least then, we'd have a solid case for some other company to get into the business instead of this weird duopoly of Nvidia vs ATI.
They don't work just look at the FCC or the FDA. They get stepped on like a door mat. There is so many problems with failure and favors with those two alone.
