I Found GLOWING Yooperlite Rocks on a Lake Superior Beach in Michigan - Rockhounding

- This was an absolutely incredible adventure! I traveled nearly 1,500 miles up into the northernmost part of Michigan in search of an incredible ultraviolet fluorescing stones nicknamed yooperlites. I met up with Bri, a Michigan native, who showed me the ropes and helped put me on some good locations, and we had a blast searching the lake shore, photographing comet NEOWISE, the Milky Way, chasing around toads, finding all sorts of cool rocks and fossils, etc.

What would it cost to ship to Sweden (Europe?)
Me oh my! Chris, of all the videos of yours I Love this one the most. I want to go there. Hey, when you two were distracted by Mr Toad, to (our left) of him was a nice yooperlight you missed. Bri, I'm in Northern California and want to know what is the best time to go looking for yooperlites in Northern Michigan or what months to avoid? It may sound silly, but looking at those awesome stones gives me joy. I am not on facebook or instagram. Is there another way to view your art and perhaps purchase something with yooperlite? Even the name is joyful, right?
No worries either way. Where there's a will, there's a way. : )
What kind of camera did you use to get the pic of the comet? I loooove that camera! Amazing pic!!!
find me one i have agitates .. never heard of that stuff.
I just ordered my 2nd pack. It is so much fun! I cannot wait to move to Florida here soon!
It's 5:33am and I'm watching a couple of stoners search for glowing rocks. This is the life...this is it, the content I needed
The wife and I are those people as well.
You meet the most interesting people out there!
Imagine putting these rocks in a scorpion’s enclosure. The scorpion would glow and look like a monster treading across lava!
Great idea !
I considered this... It would also work for a bunch of different spiders. Fish tanks. Let's go look up how much it will cost, for a pile of rocks...
@@randomconsumer4494 yooperlites are pricy.
@@danksmoker420 they aren't that bad.
@Quaid Patrick Howard Johnson 😒
Brie just seems to always take away everyone's glory. She just has a natural eye to spot good samples. That was some awesome pictures of the comet and the Northern Lights and the Milkyway. So many Yooperlites and not enough time. At least you had some good weather to search for them. Great video too.
Beautiful rock specimens, but they cannot compete with Bri. Absolutely stunning.
Glad you had fun in the mitten state!!! lived in michigan my whole life, people do not realize how awesome Michigan is
The geology of around Lake Superior is very interesting.
I agree! The shape of our state alone (the lower Peninsula) is so amazing!
Wow! Cris, I've never heard of or seen these treasures! Just amazing! Your photos of the night sky are fantastic! I always appreciate your work. Keep it up. Stay happy, safe, and healthy! ♥️
These stones are gorgeous as is, but wow. I have never heard of the glowing under UV. Thank you so much, you two!
I’m so glad to see you posting again! Let’s get Cris to 100K!!!
Yes and No Prob. : )
it has happened
Awesome video; I loved the comet & Milky Way pics, & the flowers under the uv light look’d magnificent. 1st time seeing these amazing yooperlite rocks, they’re beautiful. Thx for sharing the video. Amitābh
3:52 that's Unakite. Green epitote and pink feldspar. They can be rock/minerals or more crystallized
Thank you, I collected a rock almost identical to that one from Lake Ontario and was unable to identify it. Just decided it might be jasper but I'll look into unakite now.
You're welcome
So much fun watching you find those fabulous glowing rocks. Really pretty there and there's gold in that black sand. GG
Great video, Chris. Now I need to go out and get a UV light to take up to the UP! Thanks for sharing.
This is probably one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen. I knew about yooberlites but forgot about them so seeing this as you hunt for them is just amazing. Living in North Carolina we do not have stones like that at all like. This is going to have to be a bucket list trip for me one day. The scenery photos the waterfall the picture of the Milky Way the picture of the Comet neowise I'm just totally blown away by this video. The picture of the spider under UV light was super creepy!
Those yooperlite rocks are definitely cool , but I loved your photos of the comet , with the aurora , and the Milky way .
How awesome!! Loving the photos too. The rock at 15:55 is absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing. :)
It's awesome you're in Michigan! I live in Michigan and we were just at the lake on Sunday.
Awesome video, mate! Always know it's gonna be something good when you post 👍
I’m so amazed of these rocks that glow. The shot of the comet and the northern light was fantastic. It was awesome.!!! I want to go to find some glowing rocks!!! Since you’ve shown how to check for phosphorus rocks I’ve UV checked everything. Hahhaha
Those are so cool my granddaughter just brought me a whole bunch of rocks back from Lake Michigan. Going to get a UV light and see if any of the glowing. Awesome video thanks for sharing.❤️😁
Wow, you found some great Yooperlites and fossils--loved the spider and the toad. Good job photographing the comet and the northern lights--sad we can't see it from my area. Thank you!
Yeah, the comet and the aurora is one that would be great to have printed, framed, and hung in your home or office. The Milky Way shot was also beautiful.
Loved the photos of the comet and Milky Way. Thanks so much!
I believe that the rocks you found are called rocks and they are made of rock👌👌
Science Man Speaks!
@@mercurywoodrose yes absolutely.... Call me Einstein 🤣🤣
@@Fishing_madnessfr Einstein literally means "a rock" in German 😂
This rocks look amazing...🤩🍀👍
Love your videos. It takes me back when my sons & I used to explore.
Love your enthusiasm
This is definitely on my bucket list. So cool hunting that beach at night with the UV lights.
Wow born and raised in michigan and found a few when i was up at uni in the up hope you enjoyed the beautiful lake and wilderness of michigan its a thing we as a state are proud of
Your videos are super easy to watch
No load irritating music, just enough audio. ty
Wow, Chris... those photos are stunning! And cool video, as always :)
This whole video is AMAZING!
I stood exactly where you were walking in the beginning of this video. And what I was told is that you'd be in the wrong area where those rocks are found. I could be wrong. Maybe she was talking about one area specifically by her.
Ps. While there we ran into some guy and he told us not to be walking around the woods area of the UP from dusk to dark that strange things happen after dark. He told us that you can't see your hands in front of your face and to always make sure you have 3 ways to start a fire. Which i already knew about all this. Pretty much its another missing 411 case. Be careful
OUTSTANDING.....WOW how cool those rocks would look in a large fish tank....You two are awesome......Thanks very much...!
Very cool yooperlite finds! It's fun to see you enjoy rockhounding. The pictures were stunning, by the way!
Ahhh love going yooperlite hunting! Glad you got to come up and try it🤙🏼🤙🏼
Where at??? Or maybe honestly don't say
Awesome finds and great photos!
This sea is so beautiful, dear. the pebbles and rocks underfoot and the water is clear
😱🤔🤗💃🕺🏼👍👍
You cant make mistakes, if you like the stone. By time you learn, and then you will know what kind of stone you find. Good luck to both of you...🥰👍👍🍀🍀
Welcome to my hometown. Enjoy the beautiful Great Lakes guys.
So many Oooos... excellent photos, great share. New fan UK 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You're inspiring me to learn more about geology. Love your channel.
I really enjoyed this video Cris.
Every mile was worth it for these magical stones. Very cool video👏
Those photos you took are epic!
That is an absolute beautiful Picture of the commit and milky way
Those pictures of the sky are stunning! Also I never knew these existed and I’m from wisco, definitely on my bucket list now!!
You are so close to us!!! We love hunting for Yooperlites! We find lots of fun fossils too. You should check out some spots in Petoskey for Petoskey stones!
I visited sleeping bear dunes with my good friends and I have on my desk a coral fossil as you mention but unfortunately I had to buy one as I did not get time to look. I love it if live in the UK and the Stone reminds me of good times in a beautiful place with wonderful friends. X
They're not just in Petoskey.....
As far as I've seen there are no petoskey stones left in petoskey.
@@jibblesq i just got some this summer!! Just gotta know where to look ❤
@@tomellison5034 I find them on a hillside in Manton mi
Love the photos!!!
Wow... ! How awesome... ! Great Job!
These are like the coolest things ever, imagine having them in a jar and having a UV light making it glow as a decoration
The night sky photos were great!!
WOW those pictures are awesome.
She is such a godess , bless y'all
Excellent video. Wish I could had one for my collection
Those photos are gorgeous.
You do such a great job with the photography...(videography?). This is beautiful as always!
Wow! That first one you found in the water was amazing! Love the photos too! I've lived in Michigan most of my life but I'm in Tennessee now. I miss Michigan so much.
So amazing...
Wow😍amazing stone
Reminds me of beaches back home in Estonia🇪🇪, where pine forests are next to the sea and sands. Also we have abundance of wild blueberries to pick in the forests and they are huge at this time of the year.💜 awesome video! 💜

Wow thats a so wonderful Stone😍
We absolutely love watching your channel. If you are ever around the detroit metro area you should go magnet fishing with us.
Wow, shes amazing. Lucky guy
So glad to have found your channel! I love to rock pick in Michigan (my home state) and can't wait to try for some Yooperlites next time we get to the UP!
You missed the fluorite ones - they glow blue/purple OMG photos were epic - Colour me green! Oh you picked some of the fluorite up. They aren't as stunning as the Yooperlites but still cool.
VERY COOL!!!!
These rocks are so cool
THESE ARE SO FREAKING GORGEOUS!!! Man, that big one you found in the water at 16:00 looks like a potato that somebody baked in Hell. I think if I had these I'd use them to pave a path, and then I'd install a blacklight to shine down on it; the effect would be *amazing.*
That would be so freaking amazing!
Cut them and make a countertop
Genius!
Really nice Stone! Especially that one at 17:30, it looks like a Jack-o'-lantern
Unreal find
AWESOME!
Great picture of the comet and the northern lights together
This video sold me......I subbed. Thank you for sharing 🌞🌞🌞
We were at whitefish point two days ago. Absolutely beautiful area!!!!
Lots of quartz, granite, agates. ❤️❤️❤️
The yooperlites look like granite rockwith no uv lamp.thank for sharing all of our beautiful planet and the NEOWISE comet.
They are actually related to granite. I mean, they're cousins! Yooperlite is made of Syanite which is cooled magma with inclusions of Fluorescent Sodalite. But they hardly have any quartz in them at all. Granite is made the same way, just with no sodalite and lots of quartz.
So cool
I really enjoyed the video! Very cool!!👍
Happy 😊 hunting have fun and enjoy your self thank you for this awesome 👏 video omg that is soooo coool wow 😮 just beautiful
Forget the yooperlites, Bri is the real gem on that beach LOL
I've never had any desire to go to Michigan except for Petoskey stones but now I can add yooperlites to the list.
Beautiful guide. The rocks are not bad either. 😊
Wowza photos!
I Love Michigan spent many summers there in my younger years Most Beautiful
That is fantastic, when I was a kid, we saw Aurora Borialis several times in the Midwest your shots are excellent
Amazing photography Cris
I had never heard of Yooperlites! This is on my bucket list now!!!
I've never heard of them either & I lived up there for many years, beautiful footage, I miss that area
Per you-tube they were discovered in 2017. Accidentally.
Cool Grandma Cool! Any more info?

You guys found some really awesome stones! I don´t know much about all these different rocks/stones/gems and whatnot, but I do like them :) even it they don´t have any value, they can still be very beautiful :) 💜
Super cool!!
They look like there is fire smoldering inside the rock❤️🔥
A great stone ! Good luck

You my brudduh have found da wey! Hello again glad to see another video from you! I'll shuddup and watch now I'm sure it'll be "lit" hahaha seriously....

Looks fun. I love Yooperlite and recently bought a cat w wings made of yooperlite. Cool to see how it's actually found. Love your channel!
Very cool !
Grew up on the Minnesota side of Lake Superior. Those green/pink(salmon) rocks are something really only found on Lake Superior & Virginia called Unakite! I have a handful of them in my collection from walking the shores. Congrats on finding some! I recommend getting it polished if possible, the green gets really vibrant.
I’m from Fla. have collected shark teeth for 40 years. N other fossils. I’m in Oregon now n petrified wood n agates and fossils . Would love to find these rocks. !!! Rock Fossils will travel. Thanks for fun n pictures.
That's so cool that 😎 you visited my home, I am a Yooper, transplanted to Florida. Lol. 😉 enjoy!
I am from Agler County, Munising...Can't wait to get back there end of this month 🙌
