I live in Butte Montana and I was wondering if you would know if there are any agates and petrified wood on the Yellowstone between Livingston and Billings?
My wife and I, were on the Yellowstone river last year. We were more excited finding agates and Pet wood than if we were on our own shores picking up Petoskey stones ( a coral) and Lake Superior Agates. Watching your videos reminds me how great it was searching the river, even though the 100 degree weather was rough. Keep up the good work.
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: Started my day with this video... it's going to be a good day. Beautiful surroundings, nature sounds, light string music, and ROCKS... a winning combination!
@AgateAngler Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: Thank you so much for the reply. May you have happy, safe, and blessed adventures! I'll be waiting to share them via RUclips!
You do an amazing job at immersing us in your experience! I am not able to physically/safely travel and to see not just the rocks, but to hear the animals/insects, to see what you're seeing...it takes me along with my senses, so thank you!
Hi Alec. Just wanted to share my opinion on this particular video. The introduction and sound are stunning - so much that I had to go back to the start to listen to the sound of nature once again. Sounded like a perfect meditation clip actually and even your intonation and voice was soothing (you can try making meditation videos it seems lol). Love the drone flights - it’s like having an out of body experience and watching from above. We have moved from Ontario to New Brunswick (Canada) a year ago. I love collecting rocks and am not sure I have been able to confidently identify them. I find a lot of quartz and unakite, but that’s about it. No petrified wood ever (at least not in the area we are currently living). The beach has tide extremes - sometimes very very wild and high tide and at others, very very low. It’s quite humbling to experience this. Anyway, I wanted to let you know you’ve hit your goal when you said you wanted to share this ‘immersive experience’. Thanks for putting extra effort to allow us have more experience along with you! Great job.
My young son and I found a lovely, smooth, oval agate in rural Washington. It has a peculiar cluster of what looks like hair or extremely frayed wood fibers inside of it. It's super clear and simply the coolest thing! We had just moved there from Alaska, where my brother had always found petrified wood fragments and he collected them 😊
What part of Washington? I hunt rocks all over state of Washington. I even have few rocks from Yellowstone in Montana. My best piece of petrified wood is from Yellowstone river.
I most certainly am enjoying an immersive experience with you reminding me of hunting for agates when I was a little girl50 years ago on holiday in BC Canada
I live 13 miles from a nice rocky beach. My mom and i used to go there a lot to primarily hunt for agates. But the ones you find are so much big than the ones we ever found. What a nice place to be for rock hunting.
I'm 69 years old in the wheelchair. and I just want to thank you for letting me go with you on your walks That's the one thing I miss most the Greeks and Rivers👩🦼 My lov 2 u Bahoo
Just watched this video with my sister. She is in Virginia and I am in Wyoming. Congratulations on putting together a high quality video. You have put in your homework. Love the adjustments you have made especially the drone footage and an increased emphasis on the beautiful area you are at. Always like the calm energy you obtain in your videos. Thank you. Best wishes.
I just found your channel, I'm over in Missoula. Subscribed. I'm no geologist, amateur or otherwise, but I have spent countless hours exploring rocks on the banks of Montana rivers over rhe past 30+ years. Love it!
thanks for taking us along.... The stones are gorgeous... ALL of them. The agates are very pretty but so, so different from those that I have the opportunity to hunt & find. My agates are Lake Superior agates and far more colorful with multiple bands. I am 80 yrs. old & don't get to agate hunt very often anymore but when I do. I enjoy every moment. My daughter says "Mom. why do you have all these rocks?" I just tell her, " If you don't know, you will never understand. It's something that is unexplainable. You just know. " .... have a great day & happy hunting.
I've always wanted to get out and hunt for lake superior agates. Yes, ours are VERY different, but the colors you find in lakers are just crazy. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Dear Alec, I absolutely LOVED this video. The music and outdoor sounds were so much like a Solitude CD. I am a huge fan of Solitude music and own many CDs because they put me in such a Zen state. The music, for me, achieved the immersive feeling that you were trying to accomplish. The new video from the drone, the muffled wind sound, and your other shots of the rocks with you out in the stones with Kip looks like you are becoming an accomplished cinematographer. All your discoveries illicited many explanations of wonder from me and my husband who stuck around to watch the video. I only hope you went picking more morels as here in Manitoba I don’t think we have ever had a windfall of them as we have had this year. In fact I made homemade cream of mushroom/morel soup for supper last night! So the video in all its rock hounding glory was really a win win for me! ❤😊
Nancy! Wow.... your comment really made me smile. I don't feel worthy of such compliments, but I really appreciate it. I like the solitude 'vibe' if that is the right word.... especially when I am out there exploring and hunting. I will definitely be trying to build off of this for future videos. Thank you for the feedback! We found about 6 lbs of morels just a few weeks ago. Most of ours have dried up by now. Have a fantastic weekend!
@@AgateAngler heck no you desire lots of accolades since you are improving your site and making it more appealing and a pleasure to watch. I am blown away by 6 lbs of morels!! Hope you enjoyed them. Take care.
Really enjoyed your new format in this video. I like when your rock finds start or end with a wide shot of the surroundings. It makes a nice transition. Also really liked the addition of some shots of random interesting rocks you come upon. In general, your changes made the trip feel more complete and less like highlights.
🙋Hello from Cairo Georgia. What beautiful finds! Those pieces of wood are beautiful. Beautiful place! Thank you for the great adventure and thanks for the doggy kiss. He's gorgeous. Stay safe and God bless! 🥰
What a beautiful place, peaceful but with the beautiful chorus of the sound of the frogs, trees, river and/or nature , stunning agates and petrified wood.Hi your dog is another priceless possession

Yes Lydia that was a great find for a 5-year-old heck yeah you have a good eye. when I was five I loved hunting rocks with my dad and he always told me I had a great eye for rocks. You and your dad did a great job finding agates. You guys make a great team.
Very nice video! Loved the new drone shots and scenery. Your’e all so lucky out there in Montana. Beautiful rocks and petrified wood. I’m looking forward to your future videos.
Excellent photography! Dude, I can’t believe how nice your close up shots are! Most people seem to fight the focusing in on close shots. Would it be to forward of me to ask what camera you have? I live in Washington State and went Rockhounding yesterday for picture jasper in the Cascade mountains.! 😃
Another great video Alec. Love all the petrified wood you’re finding. Got out rock hounding last weekend and found some great Vancouver Island banded jasper.
Hi Alex. Well, you have one more sub now. I didn't realize that I hadn't subscribed. You sure made some nice finds and so many beautiful wood pieces. I'm right there with you on the newness of Spring, new life and the crazy brightness of the fresh green growth never gets old.

@AgateAngler while looking for the beautiful banded churt, I found a steel rim from a wagon wheel. I wonder how long it has been in the river and how it got there 🤔
Nice video, Alec. The walk in the woods was lovely. Since I live on the other side of the Rockies, I'm not familiar with Montana plants. A few lingering closeup shots of some of the flowers and trees might enable me to identify them and learn a bit more about them. Thanks for a lovely walk and interesting rockhounding. Happy hounding this season.
What a great video!! It's so good to see you again. I enjoyed the spring peepers and also the human music. It's nice to see people pick up things that aren't just agates and pet wood once in a while. I happen to love jasper and chert. It will be fun to see more of you this summer.
The big pieces of petrified wood you’re finding are real pretty. I’m a jasper lover. I do love the petrified wood & agate but jasper is my favorite. Beautiful piece of chert. Not sure if that’s how it’s spelled. Other rocks are very pretty too. Thank you for taking us along.
I loved seeing Kip again, good dog! Never having been in that part of the world I appreciate the drone shots. I have no doubt you love your family but sometimes getting out alone in nature is important. Our batteries need recharging, the world can demand a lot of from us and we need to step back and recover. The rockhounding and the video work are healthy and good distractions. Thank you for sharing what you saw and found and have a great week!
I just found this channel and love it. I love the mellow vybe while still being exciting. But especially love the rocks and scenery. And how you interact with your daughter. Looking forward to more!
Oh my goodness. I just love the polliwogs. Your audio is outstanding now. So much petrified wood. Holy smokes. Myself, I love the smaller ones. Easily tumbled. I don't have big tumblers. I just love your videos.

You just keep making videos, and I'll keep watching. You are awesome.
@AgateAngler and 406 findings. Yes all of you guys I would love to meet one day. I have met Michigan Rocks AKA Rob. He lives an hour from me. I love his setup so much. Such an awesome man, and his wife is such a nice lady too.

Always love the petrified wood.. I hope to make it out that way to do exactly what you are doing! I have hunted agates on all the coasts of Michigan . Need to scope out some new rocks!!
Fun Opening. Love the Crickets & Tadpoles..Thanks for taking us with you.. My favorite Pet wood is are the pieces that look like fresh wood ! ! Some look like they were in a fire as well. Interesting.. So much water line Agate instead of fortification Lines.. . . Any chance that you can bring some unusual Drift Wood to mount your finds on for dramatic Display??
I always enjoy watching these videos, glad to see you're planning on posting more content and are working towards improving your cinematography. Something you might consider to drive traffic to your channel is giving your video thumbnails extra "Pop". Many of yours tend to look similar and although the gem specimens are pretty, just having them in hand isn't necessarily the most exciting composition. Think to yourself, why would the average person bother clicking on a video where the big payoff is uninspiringly revealed before the video even starts? By creating some type of mystery people will just have to click because they need to find out what happened. Highly clickable thumbnails typically have three bright and distinct elements when together clearly tell the tale of your video, while eliciting some type of emotional response from the viewer. Try to remember, even though your channel is dedicated to people who specifically have an affinity for geology, your subscriber count will blow up if you also find ways to relate to viewers who aren't necessarily into rockhounding. Videos about one thing can still be about everything.
Mike, I appreciate you taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment. I definitely try to find the right balance with thumbnails, but of course what I see as interesting may not catch everyone's eye. RUclips is of course very interesting with how the algorithm works and whatnot. I am definitely changing the channel in terms of aesthetics and feel this summer so please keep me posted on your thoughts.
It's always fun to put a GoPro camera on your dog. Talk about immersive.... You should try that some time. Thanks for all the adventures, and great finds.
❤ one of my favorite videos! Commentary, music, beautiful view, and rock hunt. Love how you are always excited on your finds - quality over quantity on your postings. Just right
love the new direction you’re going in. sights and sounds of nature are great anywhere any time! and i recently discovered that i’m OBSESSED with petrified wood! lol!
You live in an absolute rockhounding paradise! I hope to one day before I die be able to visit Montana and do some rockhounding or at the very least purchase some of the beautiful moss agate or petrified wood from there. I'm in Indiana and where I am there is just nothing. It is nothing but cornfields as far as the eye can see. 😂 So I am so thankful for your videos, thank you for sharing your finds with us all!
I am very lucky indeed and thankful I can share some of this beautiful place with those who cannot visit for themselves. Just as an FYI, this summer I hope to launch an ETSY shop where I will sell both raw and finished specimens as well as batches of rocks for tumbling. Keep an eye out for the announcement in July or August.
Hi from Australia, just learning about agates and all the other rock names, i know a lot of our agates go to the usa, its winter here but i have a rocky beach not far away.
Big improvement sound wise & drones … can’t get enough of dem drones! I watch to learn because someday soon I’m going agate hunting. I also love to see what your neck of the woods looks like compared to mine . I’m guessing people watch for all kinds of reasons including its relaxing too - you complement it nicely with good music selection. Keep doing what you’re doing Oh also more KIP !!!!!!
I hope you enjoyed the hunt! Let me know what your favorite find was and if you are out rockhounding this weekend!

New Subscriber here, I really enjoyed the drone footage. That piece of petrified wood with agate in it was a nice find!
Love your vids, keep them coming. Would like to see more stones cut as well though.
Always love the petrified wood.. I hope to make it out that way to do exactly what you are doing! I have hunted agates on all the coasts of Michigan . Need to scope out some new rocks!!
Oh how lucky are you to find so many pieces of wood!!!
Great video! The rock @ 19:10 was fascinating!
Hi great video and nice finds. Thanks for taking us along.
More amazing finds!
I could fall asleep to the sound of the bull frogs!
Thank you Monica! The frogs are actually chorus frogs. Still very peaceful.
@@AgateAngler oh! I didn't know there were chorus frogs too! Either way I could fall asleep to them!
So happy to see you again! We are coming to the river from BC Canada in August and would love to go on a rock hunt with you!
Wow Alex you found a lot of beautiful stuff. All the petrified wood is awesome. Makes me so jealous. Great job. I enjoy your channel.
Leona,
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for coming along!
LOVE the drone footage.
I am glad you enjoyed it! I'll be trying to include more and more drone footage as I get better at flying it.
@@AgateAngler I like your idea of more full emersion in the experience. I've always missed knowing what your neck of the woods is like. Thanks AA
It's always fun to put a GoPro camera on your dog. Talk about immersive.... You should try that some time. Thanks for all the adventures, and great finds.
I can't imaging Kip would appreciate that, but it would be funny.
very nice filming always love lots of kip
❤ one of my favorite videos! Commentary, music, beautiful view, and rock hunt. Love how you are always excited on your finds - quality over quantity on your postings. Just right
So glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate the kind words.
Great finds! I like your new add-ons. Your drone shots are cool and the new sound worked great!
Appreciate the feedback! Excited to make some more videos this summer showing off the river from the sky.
Thank you for taking us along . You found some nice rocks. Wish I where there
Thanks so much Leslie! Kip and I are very fortunate.
Just subscribed! Beautiful work, wish I had been born healthy enogh to be outdoors like this.
I call that place pet wood paradise 🔥
One of my favorite spots! I found another great spot close to Billings the other day.
@@AgateAngler very nice 👍 hopefully we get lots of new goodies after the runoff.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to know you enjoyed it.
If you ever want to take a road trip to Wyoming, I would love to share some of my petrified wood with you!
LOVE YOUR WORK ON THE YELLOWSTONE RIVER ROCK HOUNDING I would love to see as much as you are able to do.
April! Thanks for the kind words! I will try my best to keep it coming this summer!
I definitely need to include more Kip....haha. Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to go for the relaxing, immersive, calming vibe.
Beautiful video !! Good to see you and Kip out there again !!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Petrified wood is always cool
Stunning agates. Thanks so much for sharing the vid.
Thanks so much for watching!
Enjoy watching your hunts very much and I would like to see some pics or short videos of your tumble polished material.
There should be content like that coming this summer. Also my instagram is a good place to look.

So glad you enjoyed it. I have another hunt scheduled to release tomorrow morning.
