I bought one of these welders a couple months ago and finally used today. I am not a welder by any stretch of the imagination but, this things works wonders! I wish I would have spend the money for the 250. I was repairing some handrails and welds turned out a lot better than I thought they would,
Sounds like the Mig-205DS is working out very well for you. Depending on how often you weld different materials requiring a welding wire change, justifying a second welder, then buy a MIG-Pro250 or maybe their newest 5 in one welder the Firstess 200amp. It's also going to have a built in plasma cutter. I waiting on a beta until to test now.
OK i finally had a friend show me how to use this thing and I LOVE IT ! I also gotta publicly thank DON the man for showing me how to start things up and guide little virgin welder me ha ha !

I actually received 1 of these for testing and could not figure out how to make those changes. I just realized its a button on top right instead of an icon. I will try it out tomorrow on 3/16 and 3/8 plate. Cool video, helpful

I have this same welder and I’m having a bad problem with sputtering and the wire kicking back. This is symptomatic of the wire speed being too high. I’m welding 1/8 steel and have the thickness set at 3.2 mm. Any suggestions??????

Don, I'm an old guy that purchased the 205DS for hobby use. Will this run on a 115v 20amp circuit? I've got electricians wanting to charge $$$$ saying a 40amo breaker for 115 or 50amp for 220. Again, just hobby.
Did you ever figure out why your material thickness only went so high for .35 wire? Mine will only go to 2.9mm thickness? But will go all the way up to 13.7 mm when I select .23 wire. This is all in mag settings. Any one else have this issue??
I think the auto settings of this machine are much higher if you tell it the metal thickness and use the auto settings. I feel like their amps are not the same as we measure. Like RMS measurements in stereo systems. Its seems the American machines are calling for less amps per metal thickness. What I think is happening is their digital (yes welder products) readout is just numbers for settings and not exactly amps. There was guy doing destructive tests against their auto settings and they seem to be right might be a bad idea using the setting off another manufacturers settings if they are lower.
The Amp settings between Lincoln and Miller are pretty far apart. In most welding manuals they have an amp range per wire size and material thickness. They all seem vary between brands. Even the wire and electrode manufacturers seem to vary on their amp recommendations. I think part of that is because travel speed also effects the welds penetration and obviously the heat zone.
I don't know if im right or not but it's just what been noticing with this welder compared to my other two units, which are analong machines which I just set by "feel". The guy doing the acid etch tests looked like he was getting good penetration using the auto settings for the 205DS.
@@henrye718I by no means an expert. My 1980's Millermatic 200 is massive and extremely heavy at around 400 pounds. And it can't run thin 0.023 wire without bird nesting the feeding mechanism. I bought a Hitbox Mig200 and it worked great. I had enough Amazon bucks to get the Yeswelder Mig-205DS free. I really liked it. I added the Yeswelder MIG-Pro250 and it has become my favorite. I really like the manual settings mode. Although I most likely will not need to weld ½ in a single pass, it is nice to know I can if needed. Most likely welding the C on a front axle.
@@zuk4x493 I had a chance to try 1/4 plate on the 205 it doesn't seem right at all. Something is wrong, It welds fine at below 130amp reading but above that it starts acting funny. To much spark, splatter and skipping with .30 wire @220v. I'm going to try a different brand of wire and .35 wire. My HTP 200 works fine in any thickness with .30 wire.
Volt and amp settings For a specific metal gauge or thickness? The Mig-205DS does not display wire but instead displays amps and volts. The higher the amps the faster the wire speed. That is why I created my cheat sheet so I didn't have to to the math in my head. We don't need to worry about watts however amps x volts equals watts.

It's very much unintuitive but manageable. There are obviously presets that are all wrong. You have to override them all constantly. I'm the end, you'll learn a lot and, if you're serious about welding, you'll upgrade to a higher level unit. In retrospect, I wish I had bit the bullet and purchased something like what the fabricator guy on RUclips recommends but it's alright. Yes welder is cheap enough to where it doesn't hurt so bad in the end.
Not really trusting this welder another guy did an amperage test and it's not putting out nearly as much amperage as displayed. This thing is just setting numbers and not true amps. His second replacment welder acted even more different than the first. And they were acting funny with .35 wire I'd be careful about using it to weld anything that would be safty issue. Maybe it's good for welding decorative items.
@@jedrishel3096 I was being nice and optimistic about it. Over time I noticed it would not weld correctly after a certain amps basically anything past 125amps. Moved on to the harbor freight 200 amp multi welder, welds perfectly at all settings like it's supposedly to.

I haven't used the flux core wire settings so I am not sure how low it goes in that setup. I have always used the mixed gas solid wire.

You will be limited to about 115 to 120 amps. Obviously a 30 amp 220V would be best.
Can you weld .030 Flux core on 120v ? Machine only allows Gasless .035 Flux selection .
Yes but there isn't synergic settings so you will need to adjust your voltage and amps to fit the project.

My HTP MiG 200 weighs 200lbs without a spool in it with the bottle on it I have a hard time rolling it over a crack in the concrete lol.

Difficult to say. Is the welding mode set to stick welding? Do you have a good ground connection?

Guess I’ll feel blessed mine penetrates into 3/8” plate with no problems. Did take some time to get used to the controls though.
