I got the same welder off amazon a year ago when I snagged a 65 mustang. I have found that the lincoln mig welding chart I found online gets you pretty close on original settings, then of coarse you may need to tweak a little here and there. So far I have installed a new roof, rear frame rail extensions, just about all of the rear sheet metal on the 65. I have also welded 1/4" and everything in between for various other projects.
It will do MIG, TIG, and Stick (no good on aluminum - no AC) - so far I have no complaints, got mine for $300 brand new on amazon, its still doing the job.

Barry this looks like a nice welder. Since my Lincoln welder, tank, cart and extra roll of wire was stolen recently I'm looking to replace it but given the drain my '68 Mustang is on my wallet these unexpected expenses are tough to swallow but this welder looks to be more budget friendly than most. Thanks for sharing your experience with it

Barry I currently have a Snap-On 140 mig. Been looking at ESAB Rebel, but was impressed with this Yes Mig.

I have welding helmet very similar to the Yes helmet. The side lenses are great if you are grinding and if welding and you stop welding you can see how to get around without tripping. I do like the welding helmet. Controls on the inside, on mine they are on the outside. Sometimes I bump and switch to grind vs weld.

Hi Welder Gurus out there. This welder vs. say the Hobart 140 - what say you? I expect just slightly more 'learning curve' due to the different nature of dialing in the settings, plus them being metric. I have a calculator. But, I do like the price, and these welds looked decent, especially now given a 30% coupon. $308 base price. Northern is listing the 140 at $599 today. That's about twice as much but it does come with a regulator and some wire, but still.

When your first 3 welds were laid down, they were cold. Speed bumps are cold welds. When you bumped it to 90 it laid down nicely and better penetration. When you did your spot welds on the thin sheet metal did you down size the wire to .023? If not, your wire is too thick and will burn thru.

I should have noted that I was using .025 in the sheet metal.

I picked one of these up about a month ago for a few upcoming projects I have planned. For some reason, when I go to set the thickness for 1/4 plate (6.7mm), it doesn't go beyond 5.1mm...can't figure out why (using 0.030 wire and 75/25 gas). I did find a chart on-line that recommended 140 amps for 1/4 plate with this machine and 120 amps for 3/16, so I just set the amperage and adjust the inductance when necessary. Don't know why the thickness setting is acting up. When I set the wire to 0.035, the machine doesn't go above 4.1mm (3/16 plate is 4.7mm). I contacted Yeswelder and waiting for a response. Other than that, the machine seems fine.

My yes water came with a big spool 10 lb holder and you take that off to run a 2 lb spool so you're missing the 10 pounds spool holder that fits tight so the spool is not rubbing on the back of the machine inside the machine

I may have missed this, but it appears that the thickness of metal pre-sets the amperage, My MIG has independent adjustment on the wire feed and amperage.

Yes Jerry that is what I have seen before too. Typically I have seen a chart inside the door telling you what to set things at for a given thickness of metal.

It works ok. It’s a little different than my Lincoln.

The helmet nice I like the sides but the welder like you said could be wider and better accessible to get at the wire guides though not a bad looking unit.

I gotta be honest big negative not making that door an inch bigger to make the drive wheel more accessible. That’s just silly.

I kind of found it odd how it kept popping. I wonder what the issue was with that?

I think that the Switch is a requirement for the EU. I’m fairly certain that the Switch has to be co located by the Power Cord.

Any one ever weld 1/4 or bigger with this welder?

    • @photog1529
      @photog1529 2 года назад

I've been using 1/4 plate with 0.030 wire and 75/25 gas, but for some odd reason my machine won't go higher than 5.1mm thickness (1/4 plate is 6.7mm). I found a chart on-line for this machine and it recommended 140 amps for 1/4, so I just set the machine to the amperage. Seems to work just fine. Waiting to hear back from Yeswelder about this quirk.

Always "push" the weld, not "pull" it.
