Option 2 (garden bed next to the existing wall) is what I would do. I get your point about not wanting people driving on the grass but the reality is, people are hopeless and if there's a wall there or a garden there, they are just going to crash into that (which is harder to fix than some damaged sprinkler heads or grass).
Maybe after removing the lawn then grade it and the use face brick and pack it in a row you don’t necessarily have to build it in if that makes sense. I know they go for R 2.50 a brick at builders.
My 2 cents.
As a new home owner, I am taking tips. This year will be my first winter, and I'm really trying to keep my kikuyu green. I last got the lawn mowed just before June. The growth on the lawn is now slow, so I assume all the energy is going to the roots.
Looking forward to seeing the results! I think if you really want to dominate I'd go for the two garden beds, and then plant a long hedge along the road. Imagine the perfect straight lines 👌
How deep does the wall go into the ground? Have you dug to see how deep the bricks go? Personally I’d dig as low as it can go and work with that… probably end up levelling everything and then just seeding so you don’t raise the level again with sod. A garden bed on the side is just going to hide the lawn
I'd go with a hedge along the road, adding a few gaps for annual flowers could be nice for color. Then grade the lawn to the raised section at the wall. The new songs are awesome by the way 🤣

You can also use railway sleepers they stunning aswell
Flower bed against the wall with sprinkles against the wall also so no risk of damage

That thumbnail is funny mate. Looking forward to the renovation.
Great Video !👌🏻 Well done and good luck with the reno.
Rather do a walled garden at the top. To bring the top level lower. The gabian rock wall would look awesome
I would do a retaining wall at the back and do a garden in there and then grade the front and add some plants along the road side.
Is your electric fence to keep out wildlife?
It's Johannesburg... To keep out the criminals/tsotsi's
