- Official Video for “Wild Ones” by Waylon Jennings
Released in 1994, “Wild Ones” is a spirited recollection of Waylon Jennings’ breakthrough as a leader of the outlaw country movement. “I remembered the times when me, Willie, and Jessi had come to town and how we had shaken up Nashville's hierarchy up in our fight to keep the music honest," Waylon recalled in his 1996 memoir, referring to his longtime friend and collaborator Willie Nelson and his wife Jessi Colter (who appears in the “Wild Ones” video).
Waylon Jennings was an American country music singer, songwriter, and musician. Often credited as a pioneer of the outlaw country movement, a subgenre of country music that is characterized by its rebellious, anti-establishment themes and sound. Jennings had many hits, some of which have been covered by other artists or have become country classics. He collaborated with many other artists, including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash.
His most popular and well-known songs include "Good Hearted Woman," "Luckenbach Texas," and "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys”.
Similar artists to Jennings include Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Kris Kristofferson.

Lyrics:
Straight out of nowhere
And a little bit out of our minds
We were courting disaster
With one foot over the line
It was one for the show
And two for ol' Shorty and me
We were the wild ones
We had the town up a tree
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
She was a lady
When a lady wasn't easy to be
Hangin' in limbo
She started hangin' with me
We were the music
Cause we had a song we could sing
We were the wild ones
And we had the world on a string
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn't control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn't know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
We had the world by the tail.

As a kid, Waylon was the first person I saw playing an electric guitar. I knew then at age 5, I had to play an electric guitar too. 50 years later Im still playing everyday. Thanks Waylon.

At 78 I still love his songs, forever Waylon in our hearts specially this day he left us but his music will be there forever

❤
I love his music and songs! Mom did, too. Reminds me of her. I miss her!!!
Listening this legend just makes me sad for what we've lost, and even sadder with what we're given now.
It's hard to believe Ol' Hoss has been gone almost 20 years. I still listen to his music daily.
The king of music,that's it
This is real country music!!!!! Not the crap you hear today. Long live Waylon.
@thomas underwood I agree with ya brother. 100%
Damn Straight!!! God Bless Waylon.
Right on
👍👍👍
That's funny cause I doubt he'd agree ya see he himself was considered "not country" hence the label "outlaw" 😉 I'm sure he would have loved several bands of today if list them but there's far too many.
I listened to nothing but rock and roll for over 40 years . I gradually turned on to country after hearing Hank Jr. greatest hits . I bought the CD and discovered Waylon shortly after . Rock will always be my mainstay but there are times when only the country sound will do . I only wish I would have expanded my musical taste sooner .
2023 and still loven Waylons music
Waylon could sing the phone book... and you'd be amazed.. listen over and over again!
Damn, when the video started I thought for a sec that the guy in the back on the bike was Travis Tritt. LOL. Sure do miss Ol' Waylon. One of a kind right there!

The best of all time and he was my friend!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yeah?
I admire him
Awesome song !!! He was an American Treasure, there will never be another Waylon Jennings..His music is timeless....
I agree, but he was a worldly treasure. I started listening to him with my dad at age 4. I went to the liquor store with my mom once when I was 5, climbed on the pallets of beer to the top and started belting out rainy day woman lol. He will never be forgotten but missed by anyone who knows what true country is.
Never
@@jeffbrewer6365 epic story
@@mikebaillie6714 I was lucky to have parents who knew what music was and pass it on to me. Those legends are almost gone now and country music is fucked. But I still listen to the oldies and remember the good times with my dad and mom.
@@jeffbrewer6365 there's a few trying to get the old school country music back the grandsons of some and some newer singers like whitey Morgan but few and far between
I miss the legend dearly that man invented country outlaw music
The best country gentleman and singer ever
Now that Jerry Jeff is gone, not may Outlaws left...but Willie still abides!
Listen carefully, this is a tale about being a product of the 50's, and 60's, and parents who went through the big depression, and the great war.... many today don't have a clue. Sadly you are missed Waylon!
..and had the World by the tail, cause we didn't know we could fail..!! Awsome
Back the we had the world by the tail!!!!!
Many have forgotten how to learn today, music used to say something, not any more.
I was a product of the 70s and can relate as well.........guess it could apply to all generations pre cell phones and internet.
We were THE WILD ONES, weren't we?
Of all Waylon's later recordings, this is my favourite. The wisdom, the battle scars, the journey, the serenity....it's all in that song. And by God......he was the most beautiful man to have ever drawn breath.
Definitely not ugly
Waylon put heart, soul, and his own life experiences into a lot of his songs. There will never be another man come close to waylon and the outlook on our life.
@@jeffbrewer6365 💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍

Somewhere down the line I'm pretty sure I said that this is the best song Waylon ever sung, if I didn't, I am now.
There’s no way I could pick just one So many great ones definitely a legend in time
I believe Don Was produced this...and that WAS part of the reason it is Waylon's best song.
Not one word about tailgates, beer, boots, or mudding........and still better than any country crap today. Miss ol hoss.
Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash live still, because their music speaks to generation after generation. The outlaws will never die
Even to this day, they can't shut these guys up.
As long as there is music, there will be Waylon, Cash and many others inspiring it all. 🤘🏻
Yes!!!
ohhhhhh yessss mam, it might be 2021 and the music is more up beat, but its still got the same meaning and theres still outlaws like me out here

How in the hell did you not know him before 3yrs ago 😳

I'm 48 years old. I grew up listening to waylon among others on a 33 record player, YES they existed lol. I was told by my mom before she passed, that when I was 7 years old, I climbed up on all the beer boxes in the liquor store and started singing waylon and Charlie Pride songs lol. She said she was so embarrassed but the employees an customers loved it lol. Still today, I listen to Waylon and the old boys as much as I can, there is simply no comparison in today's COUNTRY music.
This song gets me every time - spine-chillingly f***king brilliant

This is by far the best Waylon song ever. Nothing beats working on a Saturday, rain pouring outside your window and this song playing loud....
Waylon was the king!
Always will be.
Can you imagine never having heard of Waylon Jennings, then somehow discovering this song? To hear his voice for the first time and in this timeless song. What an experience.
❤
So glad you discovered the MAN! Been listening to him for over 60yrs. The best!
Sure, that's me
Funny you should say that. I grew up country being a farmer and we have obviously listened to Hank, but we never listened to Waylon. We were 80’s kids so we had a ton of other stuff to listen to. But I was in the garage a week ago cleaning and thought to myself, I want to listen to some old country. I had heard songs from Waylon since I grew up going to the bar with my dad often, so I had heard his voice. But when this song came on last week I was in Awe. I have a few friends that are not with us anymore and I would give anything to sit and listen to this song with them, we were definitely the wild ones. Just an amazing song. It will be added to the short list of songs that I listen to weekly, for the rest of my life.
I grew up just 8 miles from Waylon Jennings. He was from Littlefield Texas And I was from Amherst Texas. Loved his music And miss the outlaw

29 and have an appreciation and respect for real country music. Is anyone else saddened that we'll never really have this ever again? Sure, there are a few that keep true country alive and to its roots, but it'll never be what it once was. Always deeply saddens me. Who's gonna fill their shoes? Well... Not really anyone so far. Sorry, George.
I don’t think it is possible is get any more badass then Waylon.
I get covered in chill bumps to that intro. His voice is just bone chilling.

At 40 years of age I am a relatively young Fan of Waylon Jennings (I believe). I've been listening to this song over and over again for about 16 years now. It reminds me of many good times and a few bad times and it reminds me to keep fighting for my dreams. Today my son has been born. I wonder if one day this song will mean something to him as well (or if it will just be dad's boring old music ).
Congratulations my friend. I have three boys. Youngest is 5 months old. I only heard this song a week ago, but if I would have known it was out there I probably would have listened to it when my sons were born as well. It’s good. I would be willing to bet your son will listen to it. Mine will. Best wishes in dad life.
My dad loved Waylon Jennings. Dad was a marine in the early 60s and passed away in 2011, 4 days before father's day. When I get to thinking of him and missing him, I like to listen to this song. It reminds me of him.

My all time favorite country singer's of all time, I sure miss that sound 😢
SO EPIC!!! 🙏🙏🤘🤘🤘👑🇺🇦👑
Waylon Jennings is an Acquired taste. If you don't like Waylon, acquire some taste.
Well said
I acquired the taste within the first 5 minutes of hearing Waylon for the first time. I was 19 years old then and I'm 67 now! I still think he's the best thing to happen to country music and he's sadly missed.
Right.?.!.

I acquired a Taste for Waylon when i was 5. The song, Luckenbach Texas.
I also loved his history.
Hanging with Buddy Holly, the Outlaw Country movement.
