My father, the old Army Master Sergeant, passed away in March 2020 at the age of 89. We saw eye-to-eye on virtually nothing. But he was rock and taught me and my brothers how to be men…how to be accountable, responsible and take of our families. Lessons for life. When I listen to this song, I hear a tribute to the old Master Sergeant.

I know exactly what you're talking about, my father, a retired Sergeant Major of 24 years is 80 years old & still to this day a hard core, mean as a snake, don't take no shit of a man, I learned so much from him, he has dementia now, God I love him, he's a good man, just like yours👍✌️

Dad was 42 when I was born. He was 49 when my sister came along. He took up jogging so he could stay in good shape. He was tough, almost super human. He was tough on me growing up, and I resented that. I ashamed of the way I used to feel. I know he meant well now. I was 39 when he passed away, that was 21 years ago. He was strong and tough like a rock. He was almost 81 I miss him a lot. I could go on but I won't. You'll realize what you had when you don't.

I'm 69, cancer survivor this past year, still doing construction work to make ends meet and help the kids. I sat by my 90 year old Dad's bedside in my house when he died after we had cared for him for five years. I didn't realize what a rock he had been and how much his life had influenced me even though he was old school Navy and I was a '60's hippie and we never saw eye to eye even to the end. We were two rocks, side by side. Thanks, Dad.

I buried my dad today. An 83 year old Command Sergeant Major who did 2 tours in Vietnam. He died a frail, shell of the almost Superhuman I remember as a kid. This song seems to personify him in my mind. I listen to it and think of him. So long dad, I will see you on the other side.

Maybe it's because of my Midwestern upbringing. I grew up in Ohio and listened to the Michael Stanley Band, Seger and so many others.
Seger is a master songwriter. He tells a story like few others in any kind of music.

I'll be 55 my next birthday, August that is. My dad passed away November 27,2020 which is also my mom's birthday. Married in 1966. He got sent off to Chilcathie Ohio, served a sentence of 5 years. Running shine in the hills of Kentucky. However my sister and I were born in Chicago. He wasn't allowed back in the state of Kentucky or Ohio for 5 years. He somehow got us out of Chicago after the 5 years was over moved us Closer to home. He got a job at Queen City Lumber Company in Cincinnati moved on a block and we were on Chambers St . Him and my mom had not only had a home but it was the nicest one on the entire block. Now my brother was born a buckeye but like all of us, we loved it down home as we called it as kids. After 5 years my dad had become the staple of pride for the company. He designed the knives to cut out some of the most beautiful crown molding , and even after all those years I have yet to see picture frames even close to the one's that have been hanging in there home. He had a brand new 1978 Ford F150 and a brand new 1977, Chevy Caprice Classic . We ate stake about every other night. But it was time to get his family back down home. Left Cincy built his own home.paid for it (him and mom) for nearly 30 years and never missed a payment or even late with one 1⃣ payment. I got to hold him in my arms his last week of life and I got to look that man in the eyes and tell him he was my hero and my best friend and I could never ever ask for a better dad. He was the best and I also told him he was the smartest man I had ever knew . And he was. He passed but he has not left his roots. It is amazing I feel his presence everywhere. I'm trying to build my own life in the shadows of a man who is hands down the rock in my life. I love you dad

My mother called me yesterday in tears after listening to this song. Nearly 20 years ago I stood tall and proud with my right hand up swearing an oath to our nation. Some where after that time she watched me fall to my knees weak and crippled by pain from war and lost in the darkness of mental health. Today I have a beautiful son of my own and stood up strong like a rock. The impact songs can have are amazing

You did that for your father. The comments of some sweep under the rug. Do not allow the negative response from some to cloud the thought of why you played what you played with that one special gift you played in honor of your father is special time that he was able to share with you while he was here. There has always been ugly comments by some that's apart of life. Try not to let it upset you they win by upsetting you. When you least expect it some where in the future you will hear that song, and some where deep past your heart there will be a smile that is felt in your soul that no one can fill it your rock. Your father is still with you just at a greater distance.

I'm 48 years old and I've dealt with so many trials, tribulations, loss, pain, loneliness, depression and failed in life so many times. Yet, I've picked myself up each time. When I hear this song I think of my mom and my dad. They both lost their battle with cancer. They were brave and solid as a rock. They both faced death and accepted their fate. I recognized how strong they were and that in itself makes my problems look so small.

You know it. Try listing to Journey, Tom Petty, Eagles, Kansas Carry on my way word son, Boston so many more so little time. Make the time there's nothing like a good song taking you back to that special place and time. The smile that comes to your face is nothing like the warmth that comes through your heart. Thank you for your service... I get it ..there will be no white flag above your door, when we suffer from PTSD, we ? Where is our ROCK? PTSD pushes us to places we don't want to recall, it's not the memories that we wanted to create , but are a result from what's been given to us, we can't bury it, we swish it away, we wish it would wash away, so many will try to drink it or drug it away, sadly it just doesn't leave us, at times it gets the best of us & pushes us into a different culture of GREY, but hopefully you won't let it get you too far discouraged, just doing things differently will get you moving along a awesome path, starting with a new thing you find each day.. have hope, let the joys flood you w new , happier, better experiences, to keep the burdens of PTSD away... For TODAY, this moment "Like a ROCK" for you I PRAY.........

My favorite Bob Seger song. When this song first came out my mom played it over and over and over again. She use to say “you have to feel the words…..” I was, of course the young kid on the other side of the tracks and didn’t understand what she meant. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤣🤣 you know, just Momma talking nonsense. She was a single mother who raised three kids on her own. We were grown and she was just done, she was sick. She had not been diagnosed yet but she had Pulmonary Fibrosis. I started supporting us when I was just nineteen years old. She died when I was just 31. It’s been twenty years this year. I was at work on the anniversary of her death and this song came on my phone and I broke down and cried when the first line came on “Twenty years where’d they go?…….” And I ugly cried. For a while. It was the first time I had cried like that over my mom in a while. One of those deep, sobbing, can’t catch your breath kind of cries. I guess I needed to cry like that. I was under a lot of stress and my heart was broken at the time. I had just lost my baby brother just over a year earlier to Covid, and my older brother had just been diagnosed with colon cancer, and my dad is in bad shape. My life is a country song. 😂😂 I guess me ugly crying is exactly what I needed at the time. My love of music, and Bob Seger, comes from my Momma. I miss her terrible, some days more than others. Today is one of those days when I miss her more than yesterday. So, I listen to her song. ❤❤❤

At 69, retired truck driver, did my share of Detroit, Chicago, K. C., all over the mid west, north and south.
Found cassette from a friend in 76, 77.
    Talk about an influence
    Thanks Bob Seger.
I bought nine tonight twice in one week.
For five days straight, I flipped that cassette repeatedly, until, on the way home, the tape player decided it wanted to eat the tape.
Remember those days, always the favorite tape too?
I bought Nine Tonight at least five times, the last a cd.
Because of the beard and hair, it started with Grizzly Adams, Kenny Rogers, Randy Owen, Michael McDonald, yrea, you put long hair and a beard on a man, and we all look alike.
Once in Springfield Mass. a pregnant woman asked me if I was somebody's brother, and I had to say it, "Why ", looking at her pregnant belly. Big laugh.
I walked thru a bar in a truck stop south of Baltimore, with my long hair and black leather jacket, and I heard this guy screaming, " Bob, Bob, ", my name is Bill, but I turned to see who he was hollering at, it was me, he says, " Bob Seger ", I waived and laughed.
Personally, put us all in a line up, its the hair cut and beard, not the face.
Okay, one more, Bob Seger concert, Cleveland, Oh.
Went to eat first, walking down the street, outside the stadium, basketball, I guy sitting in one of sidewalk cafe's had to look twice, three times thinking I was him, then a vendor asks me for an autograph.
But the one I am most PROUD of, The MAN, Bob Seger.
If I had any talent, I would have Bob Seger tribute band.
Can't sing, can't dance, I got no rhythm. The only thing I can play, is the radio, and Bob Seger
Bob, Mr. Seger, THANK YOU for the music, and the memories.
    THANK YOU.
    Loved the duets, also.
God bless you and the family.
Lets take a walk down Main Street and reminisce.
    I was walking,
    By the river,
    I held my hand out,
    To feel the rain
    Who can't love this guy?

Stay strong brother. My burden is paralysis on my left side, shuffling around with a cane like " a pair of ragged claws

No one can even come close to them also. Songs today so not tell a story, they only keep repeating the same words over and over as if the song writer got stuck writing new words . And today , from the end if the nineties ii seem like the same tunes and some one is trying to put words to the same Melody. Can any of them come up with new melodies and maybe put a story to the tune. What happened to the excellent song writers if yesterday??????

This is my sobriety song/ ballad,
26 years ago I was a couple of months into my decision to stop drinking, My then , now X wife #3 said she had a boyfriend , I had a lot on my plate, I was driving home from a business trip knowing when I got home she would've moved out !
I put a cd in the player and this song came on , the more I listened to it the more I knew I was going to be able to deal with everything that would be thrown at me !
The worst things in my life have hit me since I quit but I was able to deal with them and survive.
    Thank You Bob Seger !

A few years ago I attended the funeral of a veteran police officer slain in the line of duty. A young lady from his family sang this haunting song and, at the end, added an extra verse in honor of the departed. There wasn't a dry eye to be seen. This was the additional stanza.
"Each time I pinned my badge on,
    This mantra I would say:
'If life offers you battle, don't ever run away.
When the Devil stalks the righteous,
You stand fast in his way,
Like a rock.' Like a rock."
May the Lord watch over and protect the men and women of that Thin Blue Line who daily risk all to watch over us.

Me and my friends, lived most of our teenage years during the 80's, here, in the mountains of southern West Virginia, and we were like rocks, hair down to our shoulder's, steel in our eyes. Took no crap from anyone, your buddies always had your back, did'nt have to ask. Now, in 2020, I'm 55, half bald, don't see so well and short a few good buddies, who have went on to the other side. I tear up listening to this song, it takes me back for a little while, to a time when we thought we wre going to live forever, and acted like it. Sweet times and fond memories. Be excellent to each other people, we are all we got. Later.

You got a good head start, Ashia. I didn't pick up on his music until 14 when Night Moves hit the charts back in 1976. He's made a ton of great music since. If you haven't listened to his older albums, it's well worth the time.
