like my daddy did i miss him terribly he passed from leukemia 2021 i’ll never be whole again-my hero my best friend..always a free wandering spirit who loved good music n left the sweetest memories for me
This song came out when I was 4 years old. My parents divorced before I was 3. I grew up loving Bob Seger my entire life but this song always gave me a different feeling... one of nostalgia and comfort and love. Sometimes it would even bring me to tears but I never knew why. I am 46 now and about 3 years ago I shared a lyrics graphic of the song on Facebook with a comment of how much I loved the song and that it felt like home . My step-mother commented on my post saying how much my Daddy loved it too, and would play it over and over and sing it to me and I would sing back as best I could at age 4. My Daddy was killed in car wreck 3 days after my 5th birthday. Because of my young age, the emotions of the song had stayed with me when the memories of why had not. Music is one of the best gifts life has and no one will ever convince me otherwise.
This song was played when my lovely friend who passed away on the 21st August 2022, her service was yesterday (27/8/22) and they carried her coffin out of the building playing "Against the Wind". Bob Seger, you're a legend. Thank you for this amazing song. 👍

I've always been running against the wind. Ever since my parents died and I had to take care of my three brothers. It happened in a small town and we got good support, but so many sad nights. I cry so much. I listen to this song and it recalls my life. We grew up as good christians. Good morals. Honest. In the 70's. Now, I've lost two of those brothers. Didn't really know them, as I was too busy with my life. I feel ashamed for that. Selfish really. I have to deal with that. The lyrics of this song is as if had written the words according to my life. I'm 66 now. Lived through the wind, raised three kids and feel thankful for that as my life's accomplishment. So maybe they won't have to go through life against the wind.

Whenever I want to reflect and shed a few tears I listen to this song. It’s a perfect song and it brings back many fond memories of my high school girlfriend and all that goes with young love.
The wind is all the things life throws at you. When young you feel invincible and run against it but as you get older some some try to hide away buti llife keeps coming, you have to keep running.
73 and going strong - we were blessed to have created this genre - NEVER to be repeated in this lifetime - but maybe the next when we gather again. Love you my brothers and sisters of those lovely times, spiritually joined forever.
The love of my life sang this song as I was running a 800 yard race in high school, she passed only 4 years later, this song will forever be imprinted in my every cell
Bob Seger is the most under appreciated artist in the history of music. With a mix of blues, rock, and folk, his poetic lyrics should be heard worldwide by all ages. He is a true inspiration to anybody who listens to his music. He sparks nostalgia even in the youngest people. Thank you, Bob Seger for the best music possible.

This is such a great song. I miss the days when music was actually written by the artists themselves and had soul and meaning. I am only 40, but as one other person put it already. We think we're wiser, but we are just getting older.
One of the most influential artists of my generation. I still love Bob Seger as much today as I did in the 70s. This is one of my favorite songs. His songs stand the test of time because we can relate the songs with life experiences. Rock on Bob!!
Yeah Shelia. What a he'll of influence Bob has put on my life too. I'm almost 60 but his music takes me back to my youthful years. I am blessed to have God in my life and grew up with Bob Segar . So God bless u Shelia.
I'm 57 and still have nothing to show for it...living day to day year to year, just surviving...counting the days/weeks til I'm homeless and completely alone.
I heard him say in an interview once that he always tried to write songs that would last, about the things that are timeless. That was in 1980-something. Listening to this song, he was a man of his word.

The song touches my soul. I am 79 now, and it brings back memories of my oldest son who died at age 52 of a heart attack. But his life was much like this song. He did his best to care for his family, but the turmoil of carying for his first family, and his second and third family, took its tole on him. He died at age 52. I look forward to seeing him again when I go home to be with our Lord. He was saved.

Ya just gotta wonder how these wonderful artists were capable of giving so much over the years . That generation will NEVER be surpassed by the quality and originality that they created! I makes me young again! Seems like just yesterday, but it was long ago! Thankyou Bob! From Texas.

Reminds me of my dad more than probably any other album. I was a kid and my dad was younger and we'd listen to this in his old Ford Torino on 8-track. Dad smoked back then, as so many of our dads did, and he was just the coolest dude I knew. The older I got the less we got along. We were always on speaking terms, and shit, but couldn't be in the same room for more'n a few hours before we got in some stupid argument. I don't know, "Against the Wind" doesn't just remind me of him, it reminds me of the best version of him... and probably of myself.

Could someone explain me the context of this particular line? What does he wish he didn't know?

The wind is all the things life throws at you. When young you feel invincible and run against it but as you get older some some try to hide away buti llife keeps coming, you have to keep running.
This Been My Life!! Still running against the wind ❤❤
And as we age, the more futile the race seems to have been...
73 and going strong - we were blessed to have created this genre - NEVER to be repeated in this lifetime - but maybe the next when we gather again.

TY BOB SEGER!
Amen!
They have been felt and heard world-wide.❣️🌹

It’s a season of love😍❤️❤️ for me and so I decided to put a smile on the faces of my fans by going through my RUclips channel and checking out on my fans, so I can get to communicate with my fans better through discussion of depth and humor listening to o and criticism of my career.💞💞🙏💖💕💕
Under appreciated,oh no ,I don’t think so,he is a rock God to many millions of fans.
This song is a masterpiece.❤❤❤❤❤
Bob Seger is very underrated.
He's sold a lot of records and he's in the hall of Fame he's very rated
@@KOSMICKEN09 Not really. Ask someone 30 years old or younger and see if they'll know who he is. While even 20 year olds know Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Eazy E, 2pac, and Led Zeppelin.
💕💜 it’s 2024 is anyone still loving this cool song. ? 💜💕 now n forever for me 💜💕🎉
Every day is a blessing ❤
Great classics never get old, only better and more relevant.
They don’t make music like this anymore 😢
Listen to this song at least twice a week! LOVE Segar!!!
Always has been One of My Many Favorite Songs from him ❤
Listening to Bob Seger for many years and he is still AWESOME. I am in my 80"s
Hello Marilyn
He's not "still awesome", he's "Still the same". Get it? 😎
AWESOME, STAY YOUNG.
Hello Marilyn, I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
Need to check the math on that➖➕☑
I'm 73 years old and still love this song. I always will.
Hey. 73 years also and love the song. I am my moms full time care giver. So I have to stand up strong every day. For mom.
This is such a great song. I miss the days when music was actually written by the artists themselves and had soul and meaning. I am only 40, but as one other person put it already. We think we're wiser, but we are just getting older.
Your answer is actually full of wisdom.
Artists never went away. Search outside of the commercial/radio stuff. Plenty of great artists in all genres.
"Deadlines and commitments" line killed me. I just feel like in a neverending loop
Not believing you have wisdom is one of the best traits of the wise. Keep running against the wind bro. You're way faster
Love the 80s music
I revisit my past everytime I feel like it. Simply love the music from days gone by.
🔥👌🏽👍🏽 they dont make em like this anymore
Bob Seger is a singer -song writer, a " genius ". Against the wind is absolute masterpiece. Peace and love brothers, and sisters 👍🤜🤛💪♥️🕊🙏🙌👐👏🤲.

One of the most influential artists of my generation. I still love Bob Seger as much today as I did in the 70s. This is one of my favorite songs. His songs stand the test of time because we can relate the songs with life experiences. Rock on Bob!!
Huge musical influence in my life, and this song was 7 when I was born.
Yeah Shelia. What a he'll of influence Bob has put on my life too. I'm almost 60 but his music takes me back to my youthful years. I am blessed to have God in my life and grew up with Bob Segar . So God bless u Shelia.
What are your other favourites songs? Just curiosity because I love this song too.
you nailed it
Me too. Saw him 4 times last time in 2008. Still awesome
1980! Just graduated from college. What a wonderful song during a wonderful time!
Same here !
2024 still love it❤❤❤
So true, against the live, so many travels, so many ups and downs, scars say it all against the wind!
Brings back so many memories of the 70s I missed them dearly.
This is pure genius.
I'm 57 and still have nothing to show for it...living day to day year to year, just surviving...counting the days/weeks til I'm homeless and completely alone.
Bob is a gifted lyricist. This song delivers one of the most cute phrases: "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then"
The famous final scene his best song
@@thomasshepard6030 what do you mean final scene?
I have to admit that phrase confused me at first, but after I read it a few times. I can see the depth of the line.
that one will always go down in record
"cute?"
Probably the best song ever written. A song about life, love, loss, growing up, growing old, moving on, staying strong and keeping determination ❤
agreed
this is when songwriting becomes poetry
yes !!! still running against the wind n i’m 67 💕
Mary again I'll be 70 in March. We had THE VERY BEST MUSIC 😂 and love❤.
My Dad loved Bob Segers music ..he passed in 2017 and would be turning 65 this year on 2025...God I miss him so much 😢😢😢
❤
I heard him say in an interview once that he always tried to write songs that would last, about the things that are timeless. That was in 1980-something. Listening to this song, he was a man of his word.
Steve Smith , this are songs that will last a life time
Absolutely
they endure, because they express something to which we all can relate, regardless of the dates.
Not only that, he wrote songs that even people on the road could feel a connection to.

“wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then”... one of the most perfect lyrics ever.
want that on my headstone
Agreed...right up there with “I’m older now but still running against the wind”.
totally agree, but Bob wrote so many great lines that I bet he had a helluva time deciding what to leave in,what to leave out
@@larrycaplinger3594 He strongly considered taking that one out...he said it seemed like a clumsy error, but then decided it was neat (or something of the sort).

You stole my line. Lol.
This song just takes me back over my life. It resonates so strongly with the times we all go through in our lives. I’m still running.

Hello 👋 Deborah. How are you doing? Hope you are fine.
Bless you too miss
God Bless You!
As we get older we run against the wind more than ever. Love this song.😊
Hello 👋 Joyce. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
lost my son way to young the one person that could have saved him wouldn't didn't, now its to late never should have happened ppl are selfish cruel and hateful still cant get over that he could still be here thanks to that person, i miss him so much worst thing is ppl that just could be so cruel to let someone so kind just die but i know he knew the lord Jesus our Lord.
Bless your soul big bro.and your son,he achieved here what we always strive for "To have peace with The Lord of the Universe before leaving our Planet "
😢
Amen

I've been running against the wind for ever and now my son is! Pray for us that this wind passes us peacefully! Too strong for us!
I woke up from a dream with this chorus on repeat…. Beautiful song…
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
Pure poetry.
Every lyric and chord is as beautiful and emotional as it was 42 years ago. We think we're wiser, but we're just older. Thank you for this song, Bob.
Nice Thanks so much for your love and support all through this time’s.... it’s been a wonderful feeling 🎼 for my beautiful fans around the world. Though I rarely comment here... I’ll like we get along and stay in touch 🥰...... where are you streaming from?
I'm.82. He still makes me cry.
Love Seger,,, I drive the highways a lot and when I need to get inside myself and look at life this comes in to inspire and strengthen my mind and soul !
Ya just gotta wonder how these wonderful artists were capable of giving so much over the years . That generation will NEVER be surpassed by the quality and originality that they created! I makes me young again! Seems like just yesterday,
but it was long ago! Thankyou Bob! From Texas.
I REMEMER YOU. ONE THAT GOT AWAY.
@bobseger3760 MY COUCH. BOB SEGAR DON'T YOU THANK ME. AMERICA OWES YOU. HOW THEY EVER PICK SEGARS GREATEST IS BEYOUND ME..
RIP LARRY PARKS
YOUR GREATEST FAN. THANK YOU SIR BOB
If he's still here, go see him and hug him. God Bless!
Masterpiece and a classic song 👍🤠
