I was almost 2 in 1972. This was played on my Dads stereo. Mom and Dad slow dancing on shag carpet me dancing in my crib!!🤣🤣🤣🤣. My dad just got home from Vietnam.
He was so very sexy. I love his facial expressions and gestures, he sings about true love and with so much emotion, that he makes you feel it. And wow was he a total knockout back then, look at that lovely body, what a gorgeous, sweet, beautiful sexy man!
Three days before I turned 12, this show was broadcast. It's amazing that after 45 years, I am now 57, and this song still sounds as fresh and new as it did back then! The soundtrack of my life!
Love this song! Makes me tear up everytime I hear it. All human beings seek love and romance. Most of us have had our hearts broken, we've all lost someone we love, either because they stopped loving us, or they passed on to the otherside. Love who you love as much as you can while you have a chance to do so. Life is fickle, the human heart even more so. Have a great day.
Yes it's a great song but jeez aren't you a little pretentious there. And wound in this was just a you know a pop song a little more so than usual have you ever listen to How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
it dont happen often but this is a prime example.... live performance blows the doors off the studio version...man he brings it home here... judging by the look on his face he knew it....
Black people, white people...gdamnitt! Just stop the bullshit and accept the fact that we are ALL Brothers and Sisters and that Al Green's music was some damned fine music! Thank you Brother Al!!
This is a man who knows that his voice is an instrument from the Creator and he uses it to its full potential. In doing so he evokes very deep emotions in those blessed enough to hear him. Watching him perform is even more of a blessing than just listening to him.
Happy 76th Birthday today April 13, 2022 to the great Al Green, born April 13, 1946. Al Green is one of the most enduring soul singers of the rock era, and is considered by many the most important male singer since Sam Cooke. He has also been referred to as "The Last of the Great Soul Singers." His early 70s work on Hi Records sounds as good today as it did then, and his legend has continued to grow over the past quarter century even as he generally turned his back on popular music. Green is the winner of 11 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received the BMI Icon award and is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient. He was included in the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, ranking at No. 65, as well as its list of the 100 Greatest Singers, at No. 14.
#1. I think it's funny that the audience was so casual in their response to this performance. I'da been jumping up and down screaming! #2. 42 years ago (2014), seriously!?! And boy was he so cool. #3. This man didn't sing enough. He could've released albums singing nursery rhymes and sold millions.
Reverend Al is the gold standard for vocalists; untouchable. Show this to all contestants on American Idol, X-factor, The Voice, the "got talent" shows then hand them a brochure for skilled trades training at the local community college so they don't waste anyone's time.
I remember when I first heard this, Think it was 1971 in the UK. A little village called Idle, Yorkshire the White Swan Pub. The juke box was in the pool room so it was Ideal for us under age. Holding my pint of mixed I stood at the the juke box trying to choose between Bernadette by the Four Tops or Shotgun by Jr. Walker but somehow I was enticed to Tired of Being Alone. The moment the intro started I was hooked
Wow what soul brother. I remember as a kid. Pulled off a reservation in the 60s and put in a housing projects. we had our tribal songs. These brothers taught us something so good to the soul it was a easy transformation to soul music. The 60s and 70s the great spirit sent us a whole bunch of this spiritual singers this is one of them. Some day I'm meet this man. He reminds me of the kids I grew up with. Thanks posting and thank you for all the love al green.
Wow. I have had a headache all day. I just played this because it popped up on RUclips. Right as he started to sing, my head felt wonderful . Medicine, this darling man .

this is style. this is tremendous, extraordinary. this is a masterpiece not only for his voice, also his singing style. He lives in the song, he lives in the feelings which this song creates...
Miss her, her soul, loving heart, beauty was unmatched , grew up alone but never felt lonely , didn’t know loneliness until she stopped talking to me. She has her reasons , a lot of past hurt , trauma, whoever hurt her , changed her to -close themselves up, push away… she called me a good man , then pushed me away. God I pray for her everyday, wish her love, hope God gives her peace in that amazing beautiful heart and soul of hers.
Many wouldn't believe his history, married once, 6 children. Later divorced to remain single, dated a women that insisted they marry, he refused and had been in the hospital she took her life in his home...Al Green had a hard time with this, turned back to God, he's a minister of his own church for years. I watched a long interview he gave years after that happened & he still has emotional problems about it. God has a plan for the Best Soul Man in earth❣️
Is this not the best! I just showed this video to my 14 year old. She was instantly transformed. Couldn't take her eyes off of him. Ah, to be young again, discovering the beauty of someone letting their soul out
Check out Charles Bradley or Curtis Harding, they're current and soulful. Curtis Harding has a band called 'Night Sun' that does some great old soul sounding stuff. Look up the songs "Baby Baby" or "I'm gonna find you," they're pretty awesome.
I know if you research it it will come back that i keep coming back to this song..I truly believe that if they re released this song it would be a number 1 hit.I don't care if you are black, white brown or yellow..everyone can feel and understand this song.
I’m a 25 year old Mexican-American that grew up in a predominantly Mexican area. My older bro used to play Al Green weekend mornings when he would wash his car. Brings great memories. Waking up, stepping outside, sun rays hitting my skin, and Al Green bumping out of my brothers Lincoln. Proud to be a young fella and vibe to Al Green like if I was 60 something haha.
you go ahead Al ...sing that song boy... Al is no joke, sings live much better than studio version, who the hell can do that now a days? hell who could do it back then? he is in a class of his own, wasn't it him that got a bowl of hot grits in the face? something tells me he was no joke in bed either...

^^^ If anything his underwear are missing him
jim page you are a very lucky guy to be in the presence of someone this spiritual.
no background, no flashy background dancers. Just a legend and his band. PERIOD. Artist today can learn a lot from this performance.
Rev Al

Al Green - One of the most fantastic male voices ever recorded!
Big up bruv
He eats Motown for breakfast. He's more stax or muscle shoals.
Hell yeah!!!
this man can sing live better than on a recording. Amazing !
Yup
I just said the same thing to myself. Damn, I'm choked up with tears about to fall...
Most artists in the 60s through the 80s were impeccable live!
So lucky
Al Green was a soul superhero.
Bobby Trainum Al Green, Otis, and James Brown the holy trinity of soul
Right on Bobby Trainum
:)
Correction he IS!
still is, I'd say
Indeed.
When Cool needs a reality check it goes to Al Green.

Beautifully said.
So beautiful.
The drummer's feel is extraordinary in this performance. It makes Al Green smile with joy near the beginning.
He better be right, he’s another James Brown, you hit the wrong key. He will
make you pay for it Al is a perfectionist to the highest.
Man this dude can REALLY sing! No auto tune/voice over/voice enhancers..... Just some real instruments and a mic
There are singers that each time they sing, they sing better
Me and my late brother's favorite singer back in the 1970s .
it dont happen often but this is a prime example.... live performance blows the doors off the studio version...man he brings it home here... judging by the look on his face he knew it....

Still here 2023! No one like him ❤✌️❤️🌼🤘
If only our current generation of musicians could understand what real music truly is!
There’s plenty of good musicians these days. You’re missing out on a lot of good music if you’re not listening to it.
This is a man who knows that his voice is an instrument from the Creator and he uses it to its full potential. In doing so he evokes very deep emotions in those blessed enough to hear him. Watching him perform is even more of a blessing than just listening to him.
❤ Absolutely❗🙌
Amen!😊
That look he gives at 0.18 seconds is priceless 👌🏻
Never gets old.
The problem back then was that this quality of music was normal.
