In 1973, my mom, her sister, cousins, all women had tickets to see Al Green. One of them couldn't go so they asked me, a 14-year-old "hard male" to go. I refused! But they forced me to go lol. Not only did Al Green put on a show that still resonates in recollection, I saw women doing things I had never seen like taking their panties off and tossing them at him and flying through the air simply to catch a rose he tossed. Seeing this brings back that night in full circle.

You can't describe the fall of quality music. This is the whole package, the singer, the band, the crowd. The fall is like falling from Mt. Everest it broke up as it hit every cliff all the way to the bottom. You watch this performance and you can't see that hog calling they call singing today. Go sit down your bad no really bad. This never goes out of style like the Energizer bunny just keeps going. I'm so glad I grew up on this. Not a sell out for that trash. I'm thankful for my memory. God bless you all. All love.
This really brings me back. A white girl, 15 years old, listening to Al Green, spending fun times with James Browns band, Maceo, Chsrles, parties at Smokey Robinsons house. It was all so new, and memorable. Thank you Jesus for the times and the memories and Al Green!
Im looking in 2024. Al Green was at the top of his game at this point. I Always bought tickets for him in Detroit. The band was untouchable..they moved as one. You dont have live bands like that nowadays. Love some Al Green❤
I saw Al Green in the UK early in 1973. Front row. It was easily one of the best Soul performances I've ever witessed - and I've seen Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye and dozens more. (Plus, I got his autograph afterwards!)
@@MOLICIOUS69 Gladys Knight & The Pips too, in 1972. Another memorable show but the theatre was half empty as she hadn't had many hits in the UK at that time. :-( Smokey Robinson in 1980 - and he autographed my album. Bobby Womack was a couple of years later.
The ladies had some heavy hitters back in the day Marvin, Teddy P & Al Green both pretty much could get any woman they wanted. Their crowds were in a frenzy
Roger James.. I concur , I'm 49 and that trio of men with AL leading the way , trust there wasn't a dry eye or seat in house lol ! Lots of underwear was thrown on and off stage Lol !
Gospel music is the foundation of most of what we know as popular music including hip hop which samples it heavily. Al Green brought you gospel music straight from the source with no additives, preservatives or meat by products. Nothing was watered down for popular acceptance. Make no mistake, he was singing about love and happiness, but this is straight from the church. And that band of his was hard core, those were some hard brothers.
Timeless music. At the age of 38, I’m still listening like yesterday. As a young boy I remember listening to his music everyday with gramma…Thank you gramma for blessing my with this music to listen to this very day. RIH 🕊️
Could you imagine singing full notes, ballads, songs at all! With half of your stomach covered by such a very tight fitted pants. Dancing too! 2:58 - catching my breathe at 20 seconds from the top😂💯🫡. Al you da king amongst KINGS😌🙏🏻
She did it when Let's Get Married became a hit and she thought he was talking to her. That killed his sex groove and sent him right to church. Still great singing though and it probably saved him from the fate that Sam Cooke suffered cause grits don't kill like bullets do.
My husband and I had just finished working a convention in Vegas and I was exhausted. Flat screen televisions were relatively new and I surrounded myself in a bubble bath watching one on the wall in the bathroom. He convinced me to go downstairs to see Al Green at the House of Blues. It was one of the best shows ever. The horn section was phenomenal.
He was in his prime the Band was the baddest at the time..the rhythm section was locked. He had a lady with blonde hair on organ where the music just flowed out of her hand she was the glue you can't hear too much of a here but she was badass on that organ again his band was tight and the baddest around at that time I had the opportunity to see him in his prime many times in Detroit at the Fisher Theater at Cobo Arena when it was named that

Shawn Atkins Please to God, I wish you success on that. When I was growing up, Motown eclipsed the British Invasion in my heart, then came soul music and blew them both away. I loved the 60s and 70s because you could tune into one station and hear it all.

Trust me, this is the only video that gives you an idea of what his live show was like. It was fantastic and the ladies went NUTS! He would start giving out roses and it got REAL serious! Thanks again from bringing back those memories!

His music was so intense that it lives in my soul today at 53 years old and will until the day I die. Those memories will never leave me. They were great days in my life.
Wow I’ve haven’t heard those call letters in a long time WABD I was a weekend jock there in the early 80’s Rocky Valentine all while I was stationed at Fort Campbell loved that area Clarksville & Hopskinville those were the good old days.
I think my parents conceived me 2 Al Green music.its thought 2 explain. But I knew Al Green lyrics b4 I heard them
I really appreciate wonderful comments like yours I remember Al Green being played by Family all my Lufe ❤❤❤
Hell it's August 2019 and I'm still here for the spectacular music and dam Al Green was so sexy and talented. I've been a fan of AL GREEN for 4 decades and I always will be ! Who's with this Southern Girl with good musical taste that has it bad for AL ?
YESSS!!! Its 10/18/2019 & I've been loving Al Green since the early 70s.
@@nadyarossi5102 ... His talent meshed with the sexiness that he brings to us is breathtaking sista . I just love me some Al Green , Lawd a mercy !
@@lindathomas7803 He is the bomb-diggedy-bomb!
@@bjwilliams ... There's no way you could've gone wrong listening to AL on any device , it could've been a phonograph and still been hittin Lol 😂 ! Al Green was the man !
I'm with you.
Say what you wanna during this time Al Green was the sexiest man in the industry then ..sorry women he made you feel good ..but Al had nothing but the holy ghost on his mind ......no matter what you sing ..if Jesus is over you its over you..listening in 2020
Al Green was a sexy beast back then
All women in the audience. The ladies were sure picking up what he was putting down.
All love.
Al green in his prime is MIGHTY FINE!!!
This really brings me back. A white girl, 15 years old, listening to Al Green, spending fun times with James Browns band, Maceo, Chsrles, parties at Smokey Robinsons house. It was all so new, and memorable. Thank you Jesus for the times and the memories and Al Green!
40 years ago, and still deeper pocket than most music that's out today...
Genius.
Pure Talent and Priceless Integrity.
He ranks at the level of Sinatra, different genre's equal talent.
...and that man truly was "in the pocket"!
Of course . It’s the roots. You can’t get deeper pocket tha the cat who
Made it
Ha! Pocket! In there.
Real music for the soul musicians today have shine too much.
Omg did you?!!..he was at his super prime at 1973..I'm sure he was dressed so well
@@MOLICIOUS69 Gladys Knight & The Pips too, in 1972. Another memorable show but the theatre was half empty as she hadn't had many hits in the UK at that time. :-( Smokey Robinson in 1980 - and he autographed my album. Bobby Womack was a couple of years later.
Al. Green is. YUMMYYY😘😘😘😘
if you don't know this is called talent
The ladies had some heavy hitters back in the day Marvin, Teddy P & Al Green both pretty much could get any woman they wanted. Their crowds were in a frenzy
Roger James.. I concur , I'm 49 and that trio of men with AL leading the way , trust there wasn't a dry eye or seat in house lol ! Lots of underwear was thrown on and off stage Lol !
And don't forget Luther
why yall leaving out ron Isley. the greatest love songs ever
RIH 🕊️
Last Man Standing, there are no more Soul Singers he is it, last man standing.
Could you imagine singing full notes, ballads, songs at all! With half of your stomach covered by such a very tight fitted pants. Dancing too! 2:58 - catching my breathe at 20 seconds from the top😂💯🫡. Al you da king amongst KINGS😌🙏🏻
Not even a pan of Hot Grits didn't stop his groove. LOL DPitts
She did it when Let's Get Married became a hit and she thought he was talking to her. That killed his sex groove and sent him right to church. Still great singing though and it probably saved him from the fate that Sam Cooke suffered cause grits don't kill like bullets do.
man was fine
He is part of the reason why I wish I was a young adult then.. 🥰💋❤
Al Green is literally the most extraordinary ever.
Lets Stay together is one of the most powerful love songs of all time
AMEN
The band is just amazing
Enterprise Orchestra was on another level
My husband and I had just finished working a convention in Vegas and I was exhausted. Flat screen televisions were relatively new and I surrounded myself in a bubble bath watching one on the wall in the bathroom. He convinced me to go downstairs to see Al Green at the House of Blues. It was one of the best shows ever. The horn section was phenomenal.
In my mom's voice "Am Green was something else child !!
Stone cold- no crap auto tune, just legit talent and feel. That’s how it’s done-
50 Years ago today!!!!!!!
When your band tight, magic happens
Y e s!!!!
He was in his prime the Band was the baddest at the time..the rhythm section was locked. He had a lady with blonde hair on organ where the music just flowed out of her hand she was the glue you can't hear too much of a here but she was badass on that organ again his band was tight and the baddest around at that time I had the opportunity to see him in his prime many times in Detroit at the Fisher Theater at Cobo Arena when it was named that
Tupac
His style is special. Difficult to imitate. Thanks he's still around
Al was cutting a step on stage. That joker was Jammin, and can't nobody touch his move. Lovin on some Al Green
I was madly in luv with Al; On Friday nights, I would have a little wine and play
Al Green, one of his records after the other. All of the women were madly in luv with him, he was "fine". Luv u Al
In case you don't know this a DJ by the name of Willie Mitchell in Midland Texas I believe he was from Lamesa Texas help get Al green on the map if you check Al Green autobiography he speaks about it.
@@wendelltryon8748 ...Everybody Knows Wendell!!! 😒😑 Al Never Kept That A Secret. MOF...He Told All Who Wanted To Listen. RIHP Mr. Willie Mitchell...AMEN!!!🙏🙏🙏

Damn, that's how it's done. The man could lay it down!!
His smile and voice!😍❤️❤️
B4 the Industry took over soul music. Honest & Pure.
I'm trying to bring some of it back
Much success to you Brother Shawn Atkins. I'm in Detroit, and as Sistar Erykah Badu sang, "We ain't dead yet, we been livin' in your internet." Truuf!!!!
agreed
Shawn Atkins
Please to God, I wish you success on that. When I was growing up, Motown eclipsed the British Invasion in my heart, then came soul music and blew them both away. I loved the 60s and 70s because you could tune into one station and hear it all.
Thank you so much for your blessing EmpressOfWyoming
YES! AL GREEN & THE WILLIE MITCHELL MEMPHIS SOUL SOUND!,,IS TRULY THE GREATEST EVER!,,INDEED!

ME - I was 24 years old enjoying my best life. 70 years old now and still listening and enjoying Mr. Al Green 💞🎶✌
I am and this performance just caught me by surprise and he’s still performing to this day. He’s one of the last true Soul Men alive !! Just lost Frankie Beverly too. R.I.P. ❤✌🏿
They just don't have any singers like this man. I am 59 and remember listening to the lp's (albums) on my parent's stereo. Mr. Al Green jamming. Awesome band. Here I am listening at 3am California time. Nastalgia :-)
Jo Freeman... When God created Al Green he broke the mold . Al's voice was blessed from the heavens ! He's the greatest soul singer ever !

Every Saturday we would wake up to Al Green to clean up😂😂😂.My Mom. I was a child then. Now I'm a Grown Woman. Didn't know Mr. Green was this Damn Fine!😂😂😂( no offense when I said this )
Al Green is probably my favorite artist. I like how he takes command of his band and makes them lower the volume when he wants them to
Oh my Gracious. Are you kidding me? Thanks. Thanks so much for such a great clip. I saw Al at the NO Jazz Fest a couple of years ago. He ain't lost nothin'! He did wear more clothes though. One of the ALL time greats.....soul forever. I'm lucky enough to have seen James Brown in his prime; Otis in '67; Jimi in '68. Would love to have seen Al back in the day....but better later than never. Take me to the river.....wash me down!
All of us ladies love what he's wearing he. Second only to his phenomenal talent as a singer and performer are his good looks.
Just seeing this. Phenomenal!!!! The energy, the outfit and the swagger.
August 2021! I'm still here loving this man and his music! I started listening when I was 11 years old! I've still got all my albums and 45rpms! I'm 62 today! God bless you Al Green! The Tapestry of my life! My best memories! ✌❤🎶 Always Al!

Not only did her perform for his fans, he would party and have a great time on stage!! I love me some Al Green bay'bee!!
Great share!
I saw Al Green - before he became The Reverend - in about 1968.
I was a 14 year old white kid - one of only a handful in a packed Birmingham AL Auditorium.
Trust me, this is the only video that gives you an idea of what his live show was like.
It was fantastic and the ladies went NUTS!
He would start giving out roses and it got REAL serious!
Thanks again from bringing back those memories!
Hey i was there in bham also, i was 15, my oldest sister and her husband knew Al green was my favorite singer, Don Cornelius and sister Rose opened
up for him, if we talking about the same concert. I'm now 60 and hey been an AG fan forever.
Don’t forget about the panties the women would throw
"It got REAL serious" LOL oh man that's great
he was like Elvis Presley in his youth. The women would tear their own clothes off.
Elvis wishes. Al has that swag.
We’ve all been blessed by Al! He and the band are ridiculously talented. That swag whew!!!! I was born in the 60’s and it’s 2021 and this was and will always be my kind of groove.

They need to do a biopic on Al green life
Yeah, but who could even play the part?
Al Green was on top of the world in '74. Saw him twice in LA then, big outdoor shows, Greek Theater, LA Amphitheater. Women were going crazy, as usual. And yes, I wore my platform shoes, too...
This has got to be the definition of SOUL!
This has to be the best genre of the latest century
When Al Green was King! Bar none.

Now this is what REAL music is. It has soul, it’s genuine, & has feeling, unlike this garbage that’s on the radio nowadays.
