In a way, as a fan you would like for the group, as it got bigger, to show to others WHY they got so many fans in the past years (maybe by picking an old song and repacking it in english e.g.) and the new songs just felt like a mean to reach to non-fans in a way that was familiar to them and them only. In a way, the fault may fall in the pandemic. Prior to that, the group had just released an album MOTS:7 and the tour would be HUGE in the next months. Since most of this investment was a loss, i feel like the group compromised on releasing these for the sake of the company get some revenue and the group keep their relevancy since one of the main things that they are beast in (concerts) would not be possible. These new songs would not make me a fan in the least, and the sound was something that i tried to escape before i got into them years ago. For the most part, their solo releases are being more genuine in sound and intent and i'm absolutely loving them branching off and showing it 😊 Keep it up guys 💜 "Take Two" was also one my recent favourites, so not everything was a miss.
I get their point about their three English songs and Jungkook’s Seven, but I wonder why none of the Korean releases are ever reviewed by the NYT with the same consideration. Since BTS went on hiatus, there’s been four Korean solo album releases that span nu-metal, hip hop, synth pop and one English single. I’d like to hear why they don’t like them with detailed analysis.

I know people also had issues with BE album but ngl, at the time, it gave me an ot7 song in the album that i absolutely love (dis-ease and blue and grey were great in my eyes) where in the previous albums i tended to go for rapline based songs (previously black swan definitely deserved more attention from reviewers too!)
Bad Liar is and will continue to be the only song I have listened every day for the last three years 😂 You all need to listen to her spanish ep its amazing. She has helped so many people. She is so strong. So funny. I love her. She has the best droplet era for millenials. Selena got really derailed by Scooter and Justin imo. If that bs and Hillsong never happened to her I think she would've been an even more massive force in music. I definitely think she is leaving music after she gets S3G out.
Their comments about BTS needing to sing some in Korean screams Western privilege. NewJeans/Fifty Fifty is able to be on radio singing some in Korean bc BTS paved the way and bc they’re female, who seem to be welcomed much more by the male dominated music industry then male BTS ever was. But BTS was mocked by DJs and interviewers who said they would never play BTS bc they sang in Korean. The only way BTS were going to bust through the gatekeeping was if they had an English hit, which Dynamite proved.
Gomez is very good in Murders in The Building… she more than holds her own against two comedic icons. Her music is outside my demographic so I will not opine on it… teen girls in my midst love it. Her charitable projects are commendable and indicative of a kind , humanitarian soul .
I understand how you feel about Seven or Butter, but it's too obvious you didn't listen to their solo albums. There were literally three hip hop solo albums they recently released, and one of the album Indigo has 10 different genres in it. This just proves Seven works because it got non fans to listen. You don't talk about how original or great their solo albums are because they are not mainstream pop or in English. Besides, BTS have over 400 songs and a couple songs like that don't represent anything. I wish Americans journalists, RUclipsrs or etc. would at least do some research on their discographies instead of focusing on the 4 English songs out of 400 songs.
Well said. I almost laughed when they talked about NewJeans doing a mix of Korean and English as if that's what BTS should do. Hello that's about 99 percent of kpop songs that do that, that didn't start with NewJeans and radio still won't play those songs. It will be interesting to see what BTS do in 2025 when it comes to their music.

I am a recent fan of Selena Gomez. I did know of her since her beginning but I was not a fan. She always has had great potential but I feel people never took her seriously out of Disney and this slowly crumpled her self confidence. She has great variety and genres musically. She is a vulnerable person but I think there is a lot in music that she could explore and open up about personal life but does not. Her disdain of promoting also affects her.
