You need to check out some of Geoff Castellucci's solo stuff. He just released House of the RIsing Sun, and he's done Blackbird, Sixteen Tons, and quite a few others. :) He's as amazing solo as he is with the group !!
My favorite move in this is when Geoff plays magician with misdirection. Right about when you said “Yes” towards the end, he moves his hand the way he does to indicate a low note, so you think “Here it comes,” but they go high instead before he hits you with “Never die” and just holds it there.
Yes, Geoff exceeded himself this time. I wish they had more options in the Grammys for people who don't sell records. I am glad you got to this one before people gave you too many warnings. This song has made reactors cry.
@@bradcwikla3099 The reaction of Dennis of King Family reacting to Qofy's reaction was even funnier! I laughed so hard I had tears rolling and got cramps in my stomach and ribs! 🤣
Thank you for getting to this one quickly. I was late to the Voiceplay game (didn't know of them until 2019) but quickly made myself familiar with their entire catalog. I think this may be my new favorite. Love their harmonies and love their risks they take with arrangement. And it doesn't hurt to have an amazing video with insane costumes and makeup. These guys seem like they have so much fun.
You should check out "My Mother Told Me," also by Voiceplay. Eli (Mr. Bald Tenor) made the backgrounds in Unreal Engine, and Layne put them in them. Excellent work by them yet again.
OMG!, I just checked your list. You haven't seen My Mother Told Me also with Jose and they are Vikings. Epic! Also, you haven't gotten to Geoffs low bass covers. Geoff did the arrangement of this and the video. He and Eli did the lighting.
If it were up to me (granted, it isn't), Jose would be a member of Voice Play. I've loved both songs he collaborated on and he was just fabulous here (as they all were). Geoff really outdid himself with this arrangement. I feel that I am in the presence of genius and just so much talent. I'm not worthy.
Me too about Jose. However he is a member of Rockapella, and may have commitments there. There's lots of reasons for people to be unable to join a group, ranging from location, Rachel Potter is in Nashville, DJ Young is under contract to the Hamilton just to mention two people who would be spectacular. In some ways it is a matter of luck and timing. I just hope to see more of him in the future. It would be great if he could manage to work with both Rocapella, and Voice Play. He has the vocal range to sing with the tenors, and to work in the baritone and bass range.
You know they've hit Target when you have a full-body set of Goosebumps!! They have literally destroyed every reactor on social media who has seen this video.... They are actually that good
Misty mountains cold is another you should look at of Geoff,. He has awesome solo work in a number of his work. House of the rising Sun, 16 tons, black Bird, headless horseman, there are more,. Voice play are the best
So this is actually the second song that Jose has collaborated with Voice Play on. The first one was "My Mother Told Me" an original song from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. If you haven't already watched and/or reacted to it I recommend that you do so. Sooner rather than later, because it's just as good as this song.
The song in Assassins' Creed is actually based on a traditional Icelandic (I believe that's the correct country) Viking song. If you look around, you can find it sung in the original lyrics.
Makes me think of the "Pirates of the Caribbean, AT WORLD'S END" movie just a little differently now. In a good way, but differently. I liked when Geoff went from real LOW to way High. I love this Post. Nice Job.

One of the things I have noticed bout Eli over time is that while his hand postures may sometimes seem awkward he is using his hands and his body movements to add strength and depth to his voice.
One of my favorite elements of this performance and arrangement (and pardon me, but I lack the musical vocabulary, hoping you will know if it has a proper name or is a recognized construct) is how it leaves an impression of a faster tempo but without actually having one, with that impression being caused by the building tension, intensity and complexity interweaving the parts and harmonies. That tension aspect is what really makes it interesting. You keep expecting it to pick up the pace and resolve or relieve the building tension, like an ebb and flow, but it never does. It just keeps adding to it, like you're constantly climbing a sled-riding slope, but never get to belly-flop on your sled and redeem all that climbing effort. That's uncomfortable at first in the song, but eventually has its own resolution as you're swept up in the emotion of the piece, finally spending it in the big finale. A really unique listening (and feeling) experience, and just one element of a very effective performance, with great vocals all around, and iconic visuals (such as Jose's raised sword, among many others). But anyway, curious what you have to say about that building tension, and their storing it up and up, but not relieving any of it, no ebb and flow throughout the song, just a big explosion of emotion at the end?
Can we talk about who is doing the arrangements for these guys? #Genius And while I absolutely love Geoff’s silky bass vocals and those jaw-dropping lows, I’m also seriously going crazy over Eli’s ability to color that gorgeous tenor for his characters-he can go from these sweet, angelic notes to this evil-sounding, edgy pitch. Cesar is turning out to be a great addition, and OMG, Layne’s beatbox, not to mention when he does sing, his voice is gorgeous. And yes, Jose is a wonderful addition to the group.
