  • Hello everyone, this is yet another video in my ongoing director's commentary series where I explore information I had to leave out of video essays and go behind-the-scenes on my creative process.
This commentary centers around a recent video of mine all about the 2023 film "The Iron Claw".
Hope you all enjoyed that video essay and that you enjoy this bonus video. See y'all next Tuesday!

This year was wildly competitive for awards season. I don't believe much in snubs but fuck, this movie deserved so much more commendation than it got. I don't see Zac Efron even for a second while watching this and that is a testament to his performance.

I disagree… there is such a shortage of good movies these days. I don’t even really keep up with the Oscars anymore but I do know one thing: this was an excellent movie, and the fact that it was snubbed where there wasn’t really any other outstanding movies this year? Makes me realize just how far the movie industry has fallen. The fact that big budget politically correct woke movies are getting so much love is disturbing to me. people seem to like style over substance or depth which is dusturbing

Iron Claw was amazing, so sad to see it snubbed especially when Zac Efron gave such a landmark performance. This was a really cool idea btw! Always love to see how fellow video essayists go about making their videos.
Excellent work, good luck with the channel!

I finally got around to watching Nope recently and in my quest to understand more about it I stumbled across your essay. Just wanted to tell you to keep it up because you will blow up on YT soon. Good stuff.

The graphics were the best part to me I thought they were made in after effects or something but making it in a video editing software is really impressive

I really like this in depth look, and this story is very personal to me as I’m a huge wrestling fan, trying to get into both wrestling and film as a career and Fritz really reminds me of my mom. And dealing with that as a man really changes you until you can break out of that sort of grip

Great commentary! I like wrestling myself so it was interesting to hear your behind the video story. I always look forward to seeing these.

I asked you this and your other iron claw video so sorry for the repeat lol but have you ever seen “Foxcatcher”? that’s another movie very similar to this. It’s about wrestling but like this movie, it was about so much more than wrestling. And it was shot in a very similar way to “Iron Claw” with the whole “less is more” aspect. I was wondering if you might be able to do an essay on that movie? Because I really enjoyed your essay on IC

I actually haven’t seen Foxcatcher, but I remember the previews for it. Definitely seemed like it had a similar vibe, and if I get around to watching it there’s definitely a possibility I could make a video on it!
