Great video Michael. I’ve fallen for the VMP albums and I was pleased to learn that they almost match an early press. BTW the UK first press will have TICH AND QUACKERS etched on side 1, and MANCHESTER UNITED etched on side 2. Any decent seller should be able to verify this for you prior to purchase. Cheers and keep them coming.
I also find it telling and concerning that a nameless German engineer, working with what was probably a second generation tape at best, was able to make an arguably better sounding album than one of the best present day engineers could do with the actual master tape…I wonder if these magnetic tapes are degrading faster than we hoped. Maybe we will owe Mofi a debt of gratitude for preserving them digitally as best as they could.
Thank you for covering one of the greatest country records of all time. Honkey Tonk Heros. I only dig some old time country really. ( especially on vinyl ) but this is a great one. It does not pop up often in the wild.
It is a record i have been wanting for some time and never found ... might sign up to VMP to get it and a few others .. the new rock track looks promising
Great video. I went nuts when I played Thin Lizzy. It is so good. Beyond great! I've only heard radio and MP3 of their classic rock hits, so this is easily as good as I've ever heard it. Anyone on the fence, grab the Thin Lizzy!!
I have a few Vinyl Me Please reissues. They are really nice, but the reasonably priced 2020 "Sound of Vinyl" pressing of Jailbreak sounds really good to my ears.
I had a US original of Jailbreak that I sold once I got the 2011 Back on Black remaster. I haven’t compared my VMP to the 2011 but I look forward to it.
Re: Thin Lizzy 'Jailbreak' I've fond memories of hearing it over a transistor radio Summer '76 while swimming in my neighbors backyard pool. A few years later I'd a roommate with a couple of their LPs and we'd make them play 'Jailbreak' and 'Live & Dangerous' .over and again .. some years later me and my then roommates caught Thin Lizzy live at the Offenbach Stadthalle (loved that venue) on the 'Chinatown' tour, but 'Black Rose' was the LP we had on repeat. Fond memories. There is a BBC Thin Lizzy documentary on YT divided in 4 parts if you're interested. I watched it some years ago. My VMP pressing has sa light warp on the outer rim - noticeable on Sida A, but I doesn't bother me enough to haggle with VMP. Re: splatter vinyl - I'd ordered madlib 'Sound Ancestors' with this month Essential - also on B&W and it looks awesome. Very pleased. Lastly, a week ago I scored a 2nd hand, NM copy of Davis & Coletrane Paris Live (sold out at VMP) - no listening notes and no obi, but I'm pleased to have found a NM copy 👍 Glad you're pleased with this months releases ... think I might add that Gang Starr LP to next months order.. Be well, be safe.
Hi Michael... still not a vinyl or turntable guy but your love of this format... and knowledge and... my love of everything Thin Lizzy well..... this was a joy for me. Thank you.
Hi Michael, thanks for another excellent video. I have to say that VMP have been fantastic. Their Anthology Series is fantastic, they always respond quickly to enquiries and go out of their way to keep customers happy. Would be great if you could organise a VMP Livestream Interview in the future to hear more about their plans. Take care, Paul.
I have been looking forward to this episode as I get my VMP batch earlier than you...And I agree with you this month is fantastic. Thin Lizzy really brought a smile to my face and I am hooked on The Cowboy Song.
An exciting package with interesting vinyl. Selected music. Seductively well - made jackets. If you look into the dark for a long time, you will aways discover something. Explorer curiosity. With devotion. :-) I love it. ❤️Heike A wonderful 45 Michael and magical stuff.
Hi Michael, these monthly shipments keep getting better and better, you’re right. I mentioned a few weeks ago I had also done comparisons but of course keep it to myself. The Thin Lizzy is impressive, I’ve actually sold my OG copy. And Emarcy also surprised me, I think it sounds better than the Barbara Leah release
Michael, that’s a stencil sheet used for spray painting/graffiti that’s included with the O.S.T. Album. You’re meant to push out the letters and spray paint onto the sheet afterwards. 👍
Great review Michael. I bought the Waylon Jennings / Billy Joe Shaver dianna wahongtonand Thin Lizzy which are enroute and can’t wait to hear them. Although hip hop isn’t my favorite, that Grazediggaz looks amazing and I may go back and get it as well. In terms of the “Jungle of discogs” you’re absolutely right but one trick is to insists that the seller confirm condition as per goldkkine standards and to verify the runout info for that pressing. It will at least make it more likely you get what you pay for. And if not it makes the returns easier.
Great update! I actually did get my August VMP releases before you! Sorry for my mistake last month. I hope you will be able to continue to make and post these videos in light of the rapidly deteriorating situation in Germany.
Congratulations, Michael! I see your next video will be #500! 🥳 Great work that got better with time. I really like how they used the original look of the Vertigo label for the Thin Lizzy LP, and the packaging looks fantastic. Thanks, Michael.
It has to be the ultimate compliment that you say the word "Coherent" when you are talking about the Kevin Gray cut of the Thin Lizzy LP....Since the name of Kevin's company is "Cohearant"! This Thin Lizzy is amazing. The entire package and the color or the record and the sound. All top quality. Good luck with Discogs first pressings!
Yes the new Thin Lizzy releases are great. People are going nuts about the sound. Granted Kevin Gray is great. But I'm not sure if people realize that a few years ago, the surviving members of Thin Lizzy actually re-recorded the albums in the studio. (The instruments, not vocals, of course). Because the original recordings back in the 70's weren't recorded so well. The original Jailbreak album especially always sounded thin and lacked low end. Scott Gorham said in an interview, he wanted the music to hold up to the sound of contemporary bands on the radio. If everyone knows this already, I apologize.
Hi Michael, great video as always. Just regarding the 1st pressing for UK issues. Having started buying vinyl from the late 70s, a lot of UK issues were made in Germany, and this can sometimes create confusion
My original copy of "On the ropes " on the Faith and Hope Label. By Music Producers. Neil Claxton and Chris Baker is Mint vinyl lol ........ Royale that is . Love the channel the content is second to none .regards shaun
Has always Michael another superb video, you are my go to source when I am researching new vinyl releases. I have just ordered the VMP Thin Lizzy ' Jailbreak ' release. Thanks again.
As always great video homeboy. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get September is vinyl me please monthly subscription record. On another note. How excited are you for Miles Davis 45 RPM UHQR pressing? I’m eager to see your comparison video, if you get it. Have a blessed day.
This Gravediggaz is the ultimate vinyl press of that album, yet incomplete. As you stated, there is something missing here and that's the song Pass The Shovel. It was on the original UK press which was released under the name Niggamortis. I was really hoping for it to be on this VMP pressing and it would've been perfect. But that was wishful thinking on my end. I'm not too mad though. I have a CD copy of Niggamortis, hence i still have Pass The Shovel in physical form.
Michael, your videos have spurred me to visit the VMP website. I notice they are featuring the Interpol LP, Turn On The Bright Lights. This album was remastered in 2012 with a DR6 rating! Crunch city! Do you know if they cut the new LP to be dynamic, or just squashed it again? I love the album.. in my car, on cheap headphones, but not on my main system. Would LOVE to grab a dynamic vinyl. Have you tried this one?
Michael, I have a UK 1st and I think almost the same as you. If the original is 100, the VMP is 95%-98% of it. The UK has a little more top end (very slight). If you have one of these two, you don't need the other. Of course I will keep both because .... well, you know why :) The UK cover is a gatefold with the illustration of the band printed on the inside (under the die-cut window). You can look at photos on discogs.
Also, I'm surprised you don't know what the stencil is for in the People Under The Stairs album. You push the letters out and and hold the square up to a wall. Then use spray paint to make that design on the wall. Graffiti style!
If anyone can kindly explain to me how it works for us Europeans. One month I see that it costs $ 53 so I only have to pay this amount for one of these releases or will there be customs fees and duties to be added to the price?
i am in germany and paid $500 for a one year subscription. thats $41,66 per month.. shipping and customs is already included! so no extra costs 😉 another awesome thing is, that if you buy additional stuff from their site, you can bundle the shipping with your record of the month for free!
A great selection of records this time 👌 By the way, there is an Irish first pressing of Jailbreak from the Philips Records label. I don't know how it sounds, as I have a UK first pressings which is excellent!
I have an original Irish pressing which has the same matrix info as the UK original... Matrix / Runout (Runout side A): 9102008 1Y//1 M 1 2 TICH AND QUACKERS Matrix / Runout (Runout side B): 9102008 2Y//2 M 1 2 MANCHESTER UNITED
Great video. I am thinking about getting a VMP subscription. Can i ask you or someone else who knows. I am in Europe (sweden). Do you get hit with customs fees and taxes on every released shipped? Or just the price of the record?
Waylon covered all Billy Joe Shaver songs on Honkytonk heroes ... youtube has some great interviews with Billy Joe Shaver and how he finally got Waylon to do that record... great stories.. BJS had the roughest and smoothest yet sad life in all of country music.
Guttentag Michael, thanks for this great new video ! A new topic that I'd like to discuss is the washing of the vinyls. This is very important matter to me, whether we talk about first pressings or a brand new ones. Before listening, all of them need to be washed with a very good cleaner according to your hi-fi configuration. If not, any comparaison is definitely biased. Could you please talk to us about that topic ? Thanks. Denis
the gravediggaz is not really missing a song, if you compare it to the US original, but the are one or two short skits / interludes missing i guess for legal reasons.. read the discogs comments for more infos.. plus the european OG had one bonus track, which should have been on the VMP reissue.. so i would not say, this is a "definitive" version of this album, but i still really love to finally have it for a reasonable price.. and it sounds freakin amazing!
For Records like the Thin Lizzy, don't buy on Discogs for overraised prices. Go with your Dog on Fleamarkets. I get the UK first pressing VG++ for 14 Euros and the german first pressing for 12 Euros. Soundwise not great differences, but the UK has a deeper bass and and a bit more depth. But both are top sounding. The advantage of flea market purchases is that you can evaluate the condition yourself based on your standards, at least visually. If a record has no optical scratches, you will rarely be disappointed after a wash. Just a tip: never look at records in the sun, because the many hairlines you see then, keep you from buying. Hairlines are usually not audible, unless you feel them when you wipe over them.
Totally agree. Personally, sun-grading a record is ok if I'm selling it. I would prefer to err on overgrading for a buyer, especially in person at a record show (or fair or convention).
I was wondering. You show ecletic styles you have on vinyl- country/hip hop/jazz/rock etc. are you collecting ALL genres? I am curious as the music fans i know, including myself usually concentrated on certain styles, never on ALL styles. It looks you but them all just for collecting, not essentially for listening, for instance , I do not hold ANY country album in my collection, and VERY few Hip Hop, only if they somehow emerged with Jazz. I never buy a record just to locate it on the shelf, if you see what I mean. thanks.
Music is like food...season it to personal tastes, and be polite to a host if served something you can't enjoy...they won't mind if you let it sit, or pass it on to someone else who will eat it right up. On the other side of this coin, if I don't like listening to what you're cooking, you're completely right to avoid smelling what my turntable is playing.
Youv’e been busy. Thanks for that as I love your videos. Random question…. Do you keep hype stickers, information cards (you call them OB’s or something like that)
Sorry to hear you picked up Germany copy of the TL record; not a bad thing but not what you thought you ordered of course. I run an online store via Discogs and I can tell you that there are methods in place to ensure that this kind of mix-up doesn't happen. Naturally, this could be simple human error as it really is a minefield out there with dozens of different versions sometimes. Here in my store every LP and sleeve in it's entirety is meticulously checked right down to the Run-Out-Groove Matrix (with a magnifying glass!) and if it does not match the Discogs description 100% then it's always possible to create a new entry if it's important enough. (I admit I've messed up a couple of times for example on a well known Stomu Yamash'ta sleeve the position of a tree on the rear cover artwork is significant!). The wrong country pressing however is a schoolboy mistake. Contact the seller and explain what has happened. In practice as they have sold you an item that is incorrect they should offer a full refund including return shipping costs. If not then simply contact Discogs/Paypal; it's a hassle but that's the way it goes.
Thin Lizzy My favorite rock band ever.....Bad reputation & Black rose were better albums in my opinion , but Jailbeak was the eye opener for many. Beautiful reissue.
Worst part of Discogs is sellers listing records erroneously under the wrong version. Horrible. My biggest pet peeve. My suggestion to you is, before you pull the trigger, get proof the version you are purchasing is the one they actually ship to you. Photographic proof. As always look at ratings and read the negative reviews because those tend to be from serious record collectors.
Are you sure? a stamper is only good for 1000 pressings... then you have to make a new one from the mother. German pressings are good.. not much in it between that and UK
The UK OG has AND QUACKERS etched on side 1 and MANCHESTER UNITED on side 2. Unfortunately they are different, and my guess is the German is made from a tape copy. I’m imagining the UK would be even “fresher”😉
The music will always be more important than the packaging. There are some great presentations out there that protect some awful vinyl pressings. Just because something isn’t wrapped in gold foil doesn’t make it any less worthwhile if the sound is fantasy. There are plenty of MoFi records that have gorgeous jackets, the Miles Davis releases immediately come to mind. This personal vendetta is a bit much.
I think VMP are just releasing such good titles. This is why I’ve become so bored of MFSL…as it’s the same old stuff again and again. I don’t want any more kind of blue or tapestry for the millionth time. VMP are doing some stuff from analog and classic titles, but also many other genres. I think they’re my favourite label at the moment.
Michael- when I look at your earlier videos from two years ago compared to the Michael of today, it seems to me like two different people. The old Michael seemed somewhat dour, non-smiling, lacking enthusiasm. The new Michael is cheerful, confident, full of enthusiasm. I’m not sure how to account for the difference. Maybe it’s the beard? Whatever the reason, I like the NEW version!
"Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak... Somewhere in this town" Hmmm... i think it will be at the jail Phil! Can't imagine it would be elsewhere. Not the sharpest knife in the draw is our Phillip. Can pluck that Bass though.
It is a need for me.
A pleasure and honor.
That you have made your members visible on your channel.
❤️Heike
Thanks Michael. :-)
Yay on the Blossom Dearie! KPG@CA
That "People Under The Stairs" is amazing! You'll love it. True Hip-Hop

Fantastic to see the great Thin Lizzy get a mention!

Chapeau Michael. Thin Lizzy were a tight rock band lead by a brilliant musician and character in Phil Lynott.

Hi Michael... still not a vinyl or turntable guy but your love of this format... and knowledge and... my love of everything Thin Lizzy well..... this was a joy for me. Thank you.
You're in the perfect place to source great originals. First German pressings of almost any album are most often highly regarded.
Hi Michael, thanks for another excellent video. I have to say that VMP have been fantastic. Would be great if you could organise a VMP Livestream Interview in the future to hear more about their plans. Take care, Paul.
Another fabulous batch of releases Michael, the quality is sublime! How easy is it to get past releases if you've just joined and missed them? 😎😎
I have been looking forward to this episode as I get my VMP batch earlier than you...And I agree with you this month is fantastic. Thin Lizzy really brought a smile to my face and I am hooked on The Cowboy Song.
I love Godzilla. Discovered that album after Fu Manchu Covered it.
so good to see a company caring and going the extra mile. chapeau VMP :-)
An exciting package with interesting vinyl.
Selected music.
Seductively well - made jackets.

AAAHHHHHH thx a ,lot for clearing that up French

I really like how they used the original look of the Vertigo label for the Thin Lizzy LP, and the packaging looks fantastic. Thanks, Michael.
Saw them on the tour for this album. So good
Love my Thin Lizzy from VMP. And the white letter cut outs for your PUTS VMP is a stencil for doing spray paint graffiti.
It has to be the ultimate compliment that you say the word "Coherent" when you are talking about the Kevin Gray cut of the Thin Lizzy LP....Since the name of Kevin's company is "Cohearant"! As a big country music fan, that Waylon album is an absolute masterpiece!
I have the UK Jailbreak 1st pressing that is absolutely killer.
Same. With the TICH AND QUACKERS and MANCHESTER UNITED in the dead wax. Probably will give the VMP a miss.
Gravediggaz one of my top 5 hiphop albums all time !!! VMP did amazing job!!! Love this release 🤩
Great looking version of Jailbreak ,where can I get that if I live in Ireland ,not available locally or through Amazon yet !

Michael, please make a top hip hop list from your experience. I am new to it as well and not sure what all is worth my time.

Thin Lizzy
My favorite rock band ever.....Bad reputation & Black rose were better albums in my opinion , but Jailbeak was the eye opener for many.
Beautiful reissue.
Michael that German band I mentioned the other day Long Distance Calling have a new album out tomorrow: ruclips.net/video/v1cpuv5_Q0I/видео.html

Looking at VMP. You choose one genre ? That’s how I read it. Did you sign up for all four. Don’t you end up with a lot of stinkers
Sometimes I do but in my opinion not often
Worst part of Discogs is sellers listing records erroneously under the wrong version. Horrible. My biggest pet peeve. My suggestion to you is, before you pull the trigger, get proof the version you are purchasing is the one they actually ship to you. Photographic proof. As always look at ratings and read the negative reviews because those tend to be from serious record collectors.
Music stack is much better than discogs IMHO
Why did you not order an original Irish pressing of Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy? Why order a British one?
🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
German vinyl use same stamper as UK so it is very close if not a same as UK
All that being said, the VMP Thin Lizzy jacket struck me immediately when I received it and yes, it’s fantastic.
I love that you share your impressions of the new releases you have. Fantastic titles. Awesome stuff. Thanks for the video.
VMP working hard to earn our hard earned $.
"Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak... Somewhere in this town"
Hmmm... i think it will be at the jail Phil! Can't imagine it would be elsewhere.
Not the sharpest knife in the draw is our Phillip. Can pluck that Bass though.
London has seven prisons. Probably had more when he wrote the song
@@tupelotwin666 LOL.. didn't he write it in Ireland?
