You and me both 😂 I'm a bit of a hack when it comes to fly tying... functionality over cosmetics for me. Thanks for the comment and support mate greatly appreciated and something I'll keep in mind for sure. Rigging plastics and fly tying tips is something I've only "thought about" to date so maybe time to dive into in the near future. Thanks again... Catch Ya! 🎣
Thanks mate appreciate the support. I was fortunate enough to pick up an 8wt Gloomis cross current rod at mates rates but more recently have been buying some Max Catch gear. The reel is a Max Catch Avid Pro, which I really like, better that the TFO Black III I bought initially. The Max Catch Predator range of rods are also good, been using one for 12 months and really happy. The fly line is nothing special... just a general saltwater weight forward 8wt. If you're looking at well priced gear check out Max Catch. 🪰🎣
Tagging helps us better understand the fish (how many, how fast do they grow, where do they move to etc). Legal size (minimum) for dusky flathead in Queensland is 40cm.🎣
@@interestingsociety thanks for the support mate... greatly appreciated. The rod is an older generation gloomis cross current teamed up with a new max catch avid reel… both 8wt with full floating line. 😎🪰🎣
@@sportfishingjunkie Thanks mate, i was having a look at the LAMSON LIQUID S SERIES REEL, unfortunately it only comes in 8 or 7wt, i`m looking at flying for flathead and breakwalls etc in saltwater, do you think i should go with a 7wt or 9wt rod and reel?
@@interestingsociety If flathead and similar sized fish are your primary target I’d go 7wt as it’ll be lighter and easier to cast for longer periods of time. If you think you will be targeting bigger saltwater fish more often then a 9wt might be better but it will take a greater toll on you if you are casting all day. Thinking logically… I’ve landed some really good fish on 8wt including 87cm golden trev, 86cm mackerel and 82cm Barra and if I had a 7wt I still would have handled them with a little more patience. The only issue for you will be the structure around the break wall mate. The 9wt may have a little extra stopping power. Sorry mate not a definitive answer but I hope it’s helped a little.
@@sportfishingjunkie Thanks for your time and response mate! So i've decided to get a 8wt saltwater Primal Mega CCC, I'm heading out to the flats to try it on a shifting tide early in the morning, With the intention to target flathead. Appreciate the response mate, definitely earned a like an subscribe from me.
Nice release
'Delicate' procedure 😁
Nice one mate…beautiful waterway…I’ll be targeting Flatties next time …although not on fly…I’ll go back to my tactics from the South😜…great video!😎
Love using soft plastics for them... fly is just something different... challenging.🎣

What are you tagging them for? And what’s the size limit for those

VENOMOUSSSSSSS not poisonous
😂 Yes you are correct... only the sting has venom the flesh is not poisonous 😉
Love the video mate! Really enjoyed this flatty on fly vid! Just curious as to what Rod/reel weight setup you're using? Cheers.
