I’ve been chasing them on fly for a few years now, they are a heap of fun and when you work them out it’s hard not to catch them, the more people that get into it the better for our cod fisheries.
We have these in the States too and they are pretty much an invasive trash fish. We catch em on dough balls or nightcrawlers or corn. They are a pain in the ass but do put up a pretty good fight! We try and get rid of them but they multiply fast and can take over a lake or pond so they are invasive. But when nothing else is biting you can always count on them bc they arent real smart!😎
Epic drone shots! Great video 👌 I love chasing mud marlin, my dog goes in and retrieves them for me after their hooked up haha. I use 2" Zman Grubz and have caught hundreds over the last couple of years. Great fun 👌

I have the same issue here where I live often. They are everywhere here in Germany but often in really muddy waters. There’s several things you can do about it: 1. You feed them a bit with some bread for example so they come up and you can see them at least way better. 2. You need to wait until they are up simply and cruise where you can at least see them and have a clou where you need to cast to. Often I miss the bite or think they bite and they didn’t really. Hard to see and to say. I think over the years I just caught 1 or 2 with just blind casting and practicing so it’s really better you would be able to see them at the surface. Spring is great. Summer can be good and slowly chances going down in later autumn and winter very rare to have any contact. Just my two cents. Maybe they can still buy you a few muddy carp wherever you live man. 😂☺️
There got to be one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish we've got in Australia. I lived in the ACT for a couple of years and started mucking around with the carp a fair bit, as soon as I started catching them on surface lures I new they would take a fly, every chance I got I was down at the lake tricking them with the fly rod, absolutely loved it, knew it would start to take off.
Great work mate i got my first mud marlin on fly at lake liddel near Muswellbrook NSW, the rod i used was a cheap brand ( jarvis walker i think) rod an reel combo that cost maybee $100 all up, flurocarbon leader and a black or olive wooly buggar fly, during the singleton flyfishing clubs anual carp bash at the lake we would literaly pull a trailer load every day, the fish were donated to a local orange farmer who used them as fertilizer Carp are one of the best fish to get into fly fishing i believe as they often “tail” like a trout or many salt species on the flats, and as you found out in the video ate great fun. I challenge you to take a Tilapia on fly now, also great fun and easy to catch if they are guarding beds
Good stuff, love chasing the mud marlin on fly, was right into it 20 years back in a local impoundment with super clear water. They will eat just about any presentation, get in front of their nose and subtle movements. Great fun, and yeah they fight well.
The first thing I shot with a 44 handgun was a carp when I was 15. We were pig shooting along the Parroo channel near Wilcania and when hanging around camp we'd fish the channel and shoot carp with handguns. The kick of the 44 blew it out of my hand and I dropped it in the dirt. Everyone there pissing themselves laughing (couple of soldiers, one ex SAS), I was red with embarrassment
Fun video mate! It's good that we don't have any carp or other invasives in our local waters over here, but sometimes when I see fishing videos like this I kinda wish we did LOL
These are actually pretty good eating by smoking them. Remove guts , head and tail . Leaving the scales on , cut about 4-5 inches long. Better with several beers. From Nevada , Mark T.
Nice video Sam. That looks like heaps of fun. I think you need to go and catch a whole heap more of those goldfish before they dirty up the water and you can't see them 😉
My biggest Carp was in a Comp. in Dalby @ 84cm on 6lb line and 50min to land it. Where did you fish in this video.? We used to fish the creek in town every sunday afternoon for fun. We called ourselves the Outback Sports Fishing Association lol. That was 20yrs ago.
hey bro... nice video as usual.. Just curious is this at Wyaralong dam?... would love to come for a drive down from Noosa to help decrease the numbers... curious to ask if you have eaten them, they look fat and meaty... could be worthy to marinate in some soy sauce, pan fry in some butter and garlic... love that your in Qld. so awesome to see your cool videos in my own back yard... cheers mate..
I never thought I'd see the day Sammy posted a carp fishing video but I was proven wrong! A true angler through and through. It is a shame you have to dispose of the fish but completely understandable given the environmental impact. If there was a way you could send them back to Europe so I could catch some of them, that'd be great!
I don't know how clean the water is that you're taking them out of,(Here they're considered toxic waste because of their PCB and Mercury content),but they not bad smoked, deep fried, or pickled.
Caught a 45cm carp on fly in shallow a creek was amazing to watch many casts many different flies before i got one to bite then seeing it take it from surface was magical
That was a really cool vid. I do like slaying ferals on land and water. Format was ok kinda different, probably wouldn't like too much voice over. I've got ponds full of Tillys just down the road but the developer turned off the aerator and the lake has gone yuk. Funny that as they are trying to build over some was good lake habitat.
Maybe you should do a cook up with carp. I have heard stories that they are not bad eating if treated right. Further the Chinese love eating them from what i have heard so you might want to look in that direction. Imagine if people started eating them how quick they would deplete
What a good video, SO how did that species end up in an landlocked waterway?? On a lighter note there will NOT be anymore cartons of brewkies this Xmas, No lures ... you blew your "nearly" last chance
Maggie Beers has eaten them on her old show The Cook and the Chef, and was extremely impressed with their eating qualities. I think a lot of the attitude about them is based on the abundant quality and quantities of fish in this country back in the day. Maggie knows her food and I haven't seen her be wrong about the edibility of anything else.
What, no catch & cook. You should have tried it as not bad eating and the ones in the rivers put up a bigger fight as they are a bit fitter having to battle the river
Been waving the wand at golden bonefish for years. Only just started eating them. Check the meat eater series pardon my plate for how to prepare and cook. Mild flavour and no bones.
Ya think for the cause of native species conservation you’d let us know what impoundment you were fishing!😜. So where can a fellow fly fisherman try this out to save the local environment?
