My older sister told me many years ago that once you learn to sew, you understand the way things go together, whether it be construction or anything else. Interesting, that Tom learned to sew from his family, and has been so knowledgeable about woodworking and construction. I think my sister was right.

Mr. Silva is the surrogate dad I want.
Smart, capable, a great teacher, and solid work ethic

I think we all adopted Tom as Dad or maybe that uncle that knows everything. Nick Offerman is that slightly eccentric Uncle? That knows a hell of a lot but your mom's. Not sure she wants her brother around you too much

The problem with smart panels is longevity. Too often, new technology companies do not last as long as their products. They may also just stop supporting that model. The first option, however, is the better one. As it allows retrofitting and expansion. Plus, integrating your solar and battery system into your panel and not a stand-alone system puts you at a higher risk of overall failure. It is better to compartmentalize your system.
The planter boxes are good. However, pvc will degrade in direct sunlight or in extreme heat. You are better off using cedar or other wood to build with. Adding bracket supports underneath will help with the load and prevent the box from sagging and pulling away from the siding.

I live in a town that says, it's green energy compliant. But they will not allow solar panels or wind turbines to be installed. They say it reflects poorly on the curb appeal of the town. Why say you are green if they don't let the residents go green?

@Navy1977 What is the new solar law in Illinois?
On January 27, 2023, Governor JB Pritzker signed P.A. 102-1123 into law. The law preempts county authority to enact local ordinances that prohibit wind and solar projects.

I agree that solar panels on residential roofs are almost always an eyesore. Wind turbines are nifty!

You guys do push a lot of this "Smart Stuff" and, I guess, that's alright. But ya'll really need to address the safety concerns with a lot of that hardware. People having their home networks spied on because someone hacked their smart bulbs, or a smart fridge going rogue because of bad code, and the ever present worry that you'll invest in a smart whatever, and the service provider closes down and you're left with a very expensive, very modern looking, brick of a device.

Exactly right. There are smart home products that can be controlled locally, but they are hard to find. We should have something akin to food safety labels, or organic certification, for smart appliances that tell consumers if that product only works with the manufacturer's app and their servers online, or if users can configure them to be managed locally.

Not to mention the fact these smart home cost double to triple the price for standard housing. besides only lazy people can't flip a switch to turn lights on or off LOL! I can't do anything if I can't do it on my mobile device!!!!

I still don't see how a smart panel is useful.
