Thank you! I love the fabric line I used. I want to get some more of those prints. 😀 The goals are going okay--still need some work in some areas, like FMQ. 😬 These videos are keeping me accountable.
Way to go on all of your achievements! I think between my sewing being in the living room and 2 dogs we need to be looking into an air purifier for at least the main area of the house. Thanks for the tip! 🙂👍🏼
You are so welcome! Glad this is helpful! We are thinking the same thing. Our dog has severe allergies as well as being a big shedder. 😆 I think we need one in every room now! Thank you for watching and sharing! ❤️
Awesome job! I think you should have graded yourself higher for engaging in the quilting community! Guild, podcast, interview and groups online! I know you want to take a class but goodness you are hard on yourself! This is said with love! ❤️
I decided my word for the year is “movement.” I haven’t really upped my movement yet but I’m psyching myself up to start a walking program. I am “wearing” my phone so that it records my steps-so I can see that I am moving some-and I can increase it. I didn’t make too many quilting goals; but this year is going to focus on quilts for ME. I need fresh quilts so that’s my goal. Thanks for the sign idea! That’s great!
That is wonderful! I love this! I need to really start moving more. My health is suffering because of the lack of movement. Thank you for sharing your strategy in this, even if you haven't upped it yet. It is still only the beginning of the year. I love that you are focusing on quilts for yourself. As quilters, we tend to forget to make stuff for ourselves, too. Thank you for sharing your ideas! This is great!
Love the owl quilt! I have the die but haven’t used it as of yet. I tackled my first t shirt quilt for a client. Turned out great but not in any hurry to do another.love your videos!
Thank you so much! That Owl Quilt is very popular. Everyone seems to ask about it. I would do a tutorial, but I am not sure everyone who doesn't have the AccuQuilt system would like it. It is a great little quilt. I made it when my mom was going through cancer treatments. I hand appliqued the owls while she was getting radiation. She then hand-quilted it for me. It is a super special quilt. Mom is cancer-free now (Praise The Lord!). ❤️
Progress is progress, moving forward is good even if it is not as far as you planned. Life seems to get in my way. Being old makes recovery so much slower, so I have to scale back my hopes.
Had to laugh when I saw you quilting this layer cake. I had just done the same packet and it was at my finishers. I did mine on point with sashing. Just got it back and love it....but saw your hourglass pattern and grabbed another layer cake and did that one too. Enjoy so much seeing your new videos. Thanks for inspiring 😊
I hope you take us along on your free motion quilting journey, sharing your successes, failures, tips, techniques, suggestions, etc. I am totally frustrated with any of my attempts to do FMQ. I have two decent machines so it has to be pilot error. Grrrr.
I know what you mean! It is so frustrating, isn't it? I am thinking about how to help with a video. I am going to figure something out that can help, I hope. Stay tuned. ❤️
You really should try FMQ ... it is such fun. I think you have a Juki & they make wonderful stitches. After you FMQ awhile it will start "clicking" and you will wonder why you had such fear. There are many quilters who do tutorials on RUclips. One thing I love about it is the custom quilting on nearly every quilt. You are doing great on your goals ... keep persevering!!
Thank you for this! I do need to just do it. Great idea with the videos! Okay--this weekend I am diving in! Thank you for this, for watching, and for your kind words! ❤️
Dear Kris, I will give you a 10! For all that you do. You are a marvel! Bowl cozies update....I sent three to my sister in California this week. She sent me a photo this morning showing her bowl of cream of wheat in a smaller one I made. Yay! I've changed the pattern several times plus switched to one layer of wrap and zap batting instead of two layers of regular cotton batting. The other one is thicker. With the one layer of batting I do free motion quilting after it's completed to keep the layers together. I use my smaller one as a mug cozy. Works great for hot chocolate. The batting gets warm so my hands do too. At the quilt guild meeting tonight, one of my friends volunteers at a community center that has a thrift store. Someone brought in a queen size wedding ring quilt top from reproduction or feed sack fabrics. She brought it to show us. I mentioned about your website and fondness for antique quilts. All for now. Take care. Marion in Oregon.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for the shout out to your group! You are so sweet! Wow! And what a great find in the quilt! I love the bowl cozy update. I never thought about making smaller ones for cocoa mugs! Great idea! I also love that you are free motion quilting them on the one layer. I am going to try that. As always, thank you so much for watching, sharing, and giving me these wonderful updates. ❤️
If I can FMQ, then anyone can. 🤣 You're doing great on your new habits. I'm surprised about the air quality spike. We use air purifiers in every room except my sewing room. My husband has terrible allergies. Guess we need one in my room too. I found out there's a quilt guild close to me, but I work during the day when they meet.
Thank you! I love that you have one in every room! That may be where we are heading. I was so surprised at the results. For the past year or so, I get sore throats often. I am hoping this helps with that. Thanks again for sharing and watching! P.S. Sorry about the guild meeting thing. That stinks. 😞
Great progress, Kris. And I love that quilt for your son. So cheerful. My air purifier turns on every time I use the steam function on my iron. Ugh! Glad you got a purifier after seeing the results on the monitor. Happy quilting. (Sew the Distance bingo squares: Just one this time-- "So pretty!")
😆 I love the bingo squares! They make me laugh! 🤗 Thank you so much for continuing to watch and share. That is so interesting about your iron! Wonder what is going on there. Glad you have an air purifier! I am loving mine, too.
Oh my! This amazing. We have the same goals. Just quilted 3 quilts ready to bind them. My husband said, whenever he comes in my sewing room his coughs when I am sewing. I have a lot of fabric in there too. Been wondering about air quality. Wow. Will get an air purifier.
Wow! Three quilts is great! Love that! The air quality is surprising to me. I knew it was probably high, but the fact that it goes up so high when I see is scary! Thanks so much for watching and sharing!
Looks like good progress for you. Seems like January went by fast. I need to move more and drink more water too. I've been working on moving projects forward that were started in 2024 and a few years prior--completely finished 3 quilts in that pile (1 was only binding). Your air info is interesting. I'm surprised sometimes at the lint on my glasses.
So true! I feel like time is moving faster and faster! ❤️ Wow! That's amazing! Three quilt finishes is a lot! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your progress!
Very informative video, can’t afford the tester but will look into air purifier, thank you. Great goals and good job following through. Since I started Karen Brown’s yearly decluttering, my sewing room is in pretty good shape. I give myself a 4 out of 5 as I am usually good about putting things back where they belong before leaving my room for the night. Being older, many of my friends, both regular and quilting are gone, so I use on line videos and groups to spur me on with my sewing. Kudos to you for getting out there, very important, I miss those days. I’m sure you will even get to free motion quilting too. I’ve done it many times but I’m still not cons with my stitching. My family thinks it looks great though and as long as they enough and use what I make for them it doesn’t matter to me if they are being truthful or just flattering me, lol.
Thank you so much! I am happy you enjoyed this video. 🥰 Karen Brown's series each year is a wonderful way to reset! I just love her, too. I am happy you are finding inspiration through the online community. It is a wonderful resource, isn't it? I am sure your family loves your work! Thank you so much for watching and for sharing. This is wonderful! 🥰
I use an air purifier in my sewing room and wow does it make a difference. I think tiny particles was keeping my nose stopped up and stuffy. When I got the air purifier the very next day of using it my nose was running like a fountain for 2 days. Now I am not stuffy or runny, it makes a difference.
Thank you for sharing this experience! I have been getting sore throats on and off for a while now and I am anxious to see if the purifier helps with that. So far, I am noticing a big difference. I hope it continues like it did for you. Thanks again for the information!
Does your wall hanging of the owls have a pattern that's available. That is so cute. Please keep up the great work I love your videos I've watched them all
Thank you so much! I will keep making videos. You are so sweet! 🥰 The Owl Quilt is made from an Accuquilt Die, so I don't have a video on it. Sorry! Maybe at some point I will make one!
Thanks to the Canadian wildfires last year, I know all about particulate air pollution. BUT, I never realized how fabric contributed to poor indoor air quality. I need to dig out my HEPA air cleaner. Thank you so much!
My pleasure! Wow, I forgot about that last summer. I am in central Pennsylvania and we had a ton the air pollution from the wildfires. I can't image how bad it was in Canada! Thank you so much for watching and for sharing!
I ended up getting this one: amzn.to/3w2b3S9 We have only had it running a few days, but the levels have already dropped. I am so surprised by all of this! Thank you so much for watching. ❤️
Yay! I am shocked at how it increased while I was sewing! Crazy! As for the owl quilt, it isn't a pattern really. It is made with an AccuQuilt die. I thought about making a video, but I know not everyone has an AccuQuilt. I am still considering it, however, as I know it is super popular. Thank you so much for watching! 🥰
@@SewtheDistanceGlad you found a good solution! We have a new hvac system that has an air purifier built in. Hopefully that is taking care of it for me. I might have to try one of those testers to see.

Great foal setting examples!
Thank you! 🥰
After watching your video on the air quality I purchased an air purifier and my coughing has pretty much stopped. Wow.
Oh wow! That’s fantastic! Thank you for sharing this!
Wow Kris...that air purifier is amazing how it tracks particles in the air. That is so eye opening❣Thank you❣
You are so welcome! Glad it could help out our community. I knew it was an issues, but I am surprised at how bad it really is! 🥰
Your quilt & runner turned out so pretty! Looks like your doing pretty good with your goals. I need to set some myself. LOL
Thank you! I love the fabric line I used. I want to get some more of those prints. 😀

Thank you, Fallon!
Lol! When I was editing the video, I thought the same thing! 😂 I should have scored myself higher for sure.
Love those finishes!! And such interesting air quality data. Keep up the great progress 🎉
Thank you so much, Andi! ❤️

I saw where someone decided to practice free motion quilting on small doll quilts and donated these to Operation Christmas Child boxes!! Cool!!
Oh, wow! That is such a great idea!!! Thank you for this suggestion!

Always have wondered about the air because I sneeze when sewing. Will look into this. Thank you
Glad this is helpful! I am amazing at how much the air purifier has helped me with what I thought was allergies. What a difference!
❤ well done sweet, 🎉
Thank you!! 😊
Thanks so much for the shoutout! So glad we could help 💛

I'm glad that I already have several purifiers in my home. I have severe allergies, so I have to have them. Good to know I'm following your advice

Free motion quilting is a lot, lot faster than straight line quilting. You just got to jump in with both feet and do it!!!
I really do need to, don't I? This is the month I am going to make it happen!
My goal this year is pretty simple. Do “something “ each day.
That is a GREAT goal! I love it!
Thanks to the Canadian wildfires last year, I know all about particulate air pollution. BUT, I never realized how fabric contributed to poor indoor air quality. I need to dig out my HEPA air cleaner. Thank you so much!
