I don't think you guys started out like me if you went to iligan city from the beginning I've been there 5 times lots parts of iligan city you get more stairs than where you are walking they're not used to seeing foreigners there like Manila or Cebu you'll be like a big celebrity there I was told the 1st 5 times I went there it's not like that in common places like Manila or cebu like you see on RUclips
DONT BE AFRAID IF ALL EYES IS WITH YOU BCOZ THEY GETTING SHOCK THAT THERES FOREIGNER PASSING BY IN THEIR AREA NOTHING MORE JUST TALK TO THEM NICELY AND THEY WILL HELP YOU
I first visited the Philippines when I was 17 in 1969. I've lived as a legal resident in the Philippines since 2011. Before D30 became president, a foreigner was getting killed at least once a month in AC, and crime against foreigners was rampant. I had my apartment broken into while I was sleeping on the second floor. Neighbors woke my wife and me up shouting from the street because they thought we were dead. When D30 became president, it was as if someone had turned the switch. Suddenly, women could walk the street again, ride a jeepney or a motorbike without being robbed, assaulted, raped, or murdered. Meth heads used to walk by my place all hours of the day and night. Not any more. Once the president got rid of most of the meth heads and crooked cops, the crime rate in the Philippines plummeted. D30 rounded as many bad cops as possible and shipped them off to islands where cops did not want to go. Those that did not want to go, were fired and others went out in a blaze of glory. Cops that that had been sent to prison for shooting criminals were pardoned, put back in uniform, and given the mandate to clean up the streets. Before D30 became president, the country was on the verge of becoming a narco-state. I had neighbors that were selling meth. They were all shot while getting into their car stopped at a traffic light. Lately, it's been very quiet in the subdivision. My bother-in-law turned himself in when his name showed up on 'the list.' The cops came by with a megaphone, called out his name, and told him to report to the local PNP station. He was hiding out Tagum. My wife called and he turned himself in. He was told that if he f*c*ked up one more time, he would get laid up. The cops went through at the village level and cleaned out the dealers. When you're driving down the highway on the island of Leyte, and you see a sign that says, this place is a drug-free zone, they are not kidding. I feel much safer now than I did when I first moved here. I now live in Lapu-Lapu on the island of Cebu. Terrible traffic but it is now very safe for the locals and ex-pats. And for all the bleeding hearts, if you don't want to end up dead, don't sell meth (shabu). Real simple.
I agree with you. I hope whoever is the next President will continue what he started. People on the outside would think differently about du30 because the local and international news always portray him as evil. I will always be thankful because he cleaned up our neighborhood. Some of the shabu addicts I know are leading better lives after being rehabilitated by the government(they surrendered during oplan tokhang). A politician here in our city was one of the people killed during the drug war (he refused to surrender and engaged in a shootout with the police). He is a well known drug lord and leader of an organized crime syndicate. The world is definitely a better place without people like him. But the international news was reporting it like he was innocent and defenseless when infact he is one of the most notorious drug lords here in Mindanao. I could just roll my eyes with their reporting.
I've been to Philippines many times. I have never had a problem, I've rode jeepneys, trikes and scooters. I was taught as a young man to walk down the street like you own it but not looking like an ass doing it. Be confident
It’s good to see Paul in a better humor than in the last video which he deleted. Some viewers were pretty hard on him. None knew enough to have any legitimate opinion, and neither do I. Glad you are standing by your friend.
Yep, just smile and say 'Kumusta' and the locals will respond with a smile and nod. If you want to make a Filipino laugh, just start speaking English to them like you were old friends. They'll start laughing and beg you to stop before they get a nose bleed.
I was renting an apartment in Tupi, South Cotabato last year with my GF and her family for 3 months at the start of the pandemic. I really felt sorry for this one really skinny street dog that used to hang around out place, so i used to feed him every night at dinner time and about 6ish each night he would appear, he put some weight on and was looking OK :) anyway one night there was these 4 drunk Filipino lads walking past our apartment and the dog was there waiting for his handout and one of the drunk lads went to kick the dog, i said loudly 'Hey don't kick him, he's a good dog and i feed him, leave him alone'. The 4 lads came towards me and i seen one of them had a bottle in his hand and was saying something in Bisaya to me that i didn't understand. At this point my GF came out of the flat, shouted something at these lads and pulled me inside. She said they were going to jump me for shouting at them for trying to kick the dog, and do me in, the one with the bottle was gonna smash me with it if i gave him the chance. She also told me that they didn't understand English so didn't know what i was shouting at them. That's the only trouble that i have seen out there and in a way it was my fault, well i caused it but i wasn't gong to stand by and say nothing while these drunks kicked dogs for fun. And i'd do it again too if i seen it happening. Besides that brilliant little town on Mindanao but nicer up in the hills though.
I'm serious, I would advise, keep your feelings toward animal abuse that you witness. You're in a foreign country. It is uncivilized (I'm sorry I get mad myself at your story), to hurt animals as if they don't feel pain at all. It is time the government needs to pass a law criminalizing animal abuse. Animals feel physical pain exactly like we do if they get physically attacked. My sister experienced seeing a dog being killed ( but she quickly hid and pretended not feeling well and cried to herself). The dog, actually a family dog, meaning, they took care of the dog, until during a party when they were short of "pulutan" -- like a treat to go with beer for the men. That's how the dog ended up. This was normally a practice among the poor only, back in the days but I know it's not as much done now in our time or it is actually disappearing, thank God, big time. The poor Filipinos seem to be much more educated now on animal rights. And feelings. People should think that because animals are not human doesn't mean they deserve human cruelty.
That is tough for me, as an animal lover, I don't know if I could reside and retire in Philippines to see that happening on a normal basis. As a white American I'd feel a little better in a country more civilized somewhere in Europe, or Baltic/Slavic countries.
I am a Filipino whoi lived once in USA. Just be friendly with Filipinos, say Hello and Hi to them always and they will respond positively. Filipinos are very friendly in general. When they greet you hi or hello, just respond positively and they will be happy and very nice to you. Avoid walking at night in dark places and do not go to places where you are not familiar with. A Filipino friend with you is better. Do not wear expensive jewelries or watches. Plastic watches like casio is better.
Even when you're alone and they shout "HEY JOE" at you? A little bit frightening if you don't know why people are pointing and shouting at you, isn't it... Especially when you dont want attention for security reasons.
Amerca is not the best country anymore! Look at your own Rabbies and do something for our Environments .
Go to Tawi Tawi, Mindanao. It's heavely populated NPA, ABU SAYEF island. Any foreigner goes there would be kidnapped or shot or both within 24 hours. Trust me on that!
@@good9205 I understand the kidnapping part and the high likelihood of that happening in the south, but I’m just curious why they would shoot a foreigner just like that. Wouldn’t it make more sense to hold on to them and keep them alive, maybe wait for a payout? Or do they just randomly kill people just because?
@@good9205 and do you really think it would happen that fast, like a foreigner is guaranteed dead on arrival? Trust me I have absolutely no reason to visit tawi tawi, just imagining the thought of being held captive and possibly beheaded, fuck that.. but I’m quite curious about it all
It can be very dangerous depending on the location. I lived there 10yrs. I was ambushed and injured 9 times. I place most of the blame on myself for being out at night alone in a questionable environment. I know several that was killed there. My advice is to find a good Pinoy that will join you. The presence of another person especially a Pinoy with you is protection beyond words. You're correct about avoiding Pinoy bars and refusing to buy beer for the drunks there. That's exactly what got me. Also I may add if you get involved with a Filipina there is a great risk if she isn't a true girl and your just an ATM for her and whoever she is involved with. I spent most of my time in Mindanao. The Muslims there was nice to me. What is most important is to avoid where drugs are around. Your a walking target to them
I think u deserve it...dont just come to the philippines to play with our Filipinas..how rude of you...have some respect..its the kind of people like you that this country should avoid...
Yep.. been here 10 months and learned the hard way its very dangerous here and filipinas what you said is right had 2 gfs and refused to be a atm.. the relationships ended not that much longer after that. They see you as a cash cow here. Can't wait to leave in a few days
Philippines is a safe place. Friendly people & can somehow speak English good enough to communicate. It is just natural for local people to stare at foreigners, for 2 obvious reason white complex & your height, another one they are preparing for their English in case you approach them. 😂😂😂
CES : That's extremely true!.And that's actually not a big issue! They do stare at the foreigners, simply because of their height, their complexion, and their language, and will surely make themselves shy of what English words to say, if ever those foreigners will approach and ask them of something, which they themselves don't know what to say, and eventually, will make them feel really unconfident, aside from considering the foreigners, NEW to their sight!..... 👁️
Hey Gio, good topic covered in this one. As a retired Marine, I've been in several foreign countries. It's kinda common sense to know where you should or shouldn't go. Much like being New York city, avoid a dark alley at 2am kind of thing.
All I know is that Camiguin island is by far the safest place I have ever lived and no crime and very clean. Cooler weather than CDO are Dumaguete. More rain but mostly at night. Green lush and Beautiful
been to Philippines many many many times over the last 25 yrs, never felt scared , and the reason is wherever you go you are usually a novelty, so no one is going to do anything to you because as it will not go un noticed , or un punished
filipinos stares at you because they don't see many foreigners ..especially if you go to remote areas in Philippines you get more stares..but danger??? you are far from danger,, we filipino stares at you just out of curiosities 🙂.here in the u.s. I feel more in danger than in the Philippines ..especially in big cities such as philadelphia ,New York,LA, Detroit .to name a few..its the most dangerous cities in the u.s. I wouldn't want anyone to even go there too many crimes, drugs, too many criminals owning guns illegally ,driveby shootings.......philippines is too far from to be a dangerous country ...be careful when you come to u.s. especially in big cities..there you aren't safe at all...check out philadelphia in Kensington today ,,drugs are legal and looking like zombie land its scary out there... Philippines is the safest country I've ever been to, since I was born there,,,I would never go vaca to anywhere else ..philippines got everything I need, the tropical weather, the beautiful beaches, the beautiful friendly people ,families ,manila the beautiful manila ,beautiful big malls ..I mean what else could I want more they got it all 🥰
Hey Gio, I have travelled not extensively but to a few out-of-the-way places and never felt threatened or was a scared. That being said there are quite a few gangs in around the cities that you should be aware of. Wondering if you could do a video on gang tattoos and what to look for. You’re absolutely right though it is mostly entitled foreigners that are drunk & create the problem. My theory is you do not know what can upset a Filipino to the point of losing face & coming after you. Keep yourself safe and don’t go in areas that would put you in a predicament. Maybe Tondo perhaps would not be a good place to walk around even in the daytime.
Great video Gio, I really like the sights and sounds of that neighborhood. Paul has a good head on his shoulders if only more expats had an attitude like you guys 👍🏽❤️🇵🇭
Also keep in mind that it's safer to walk with someone, like you & Paul were doing, rather than walking alone like a single first-time visitor might try to do.
Ray wat da fook, why look for trouble at 2am. Go walk in the alley of DETROIT - PHILADELPHIA - WASHINGTON - ATLANTA - NEW YORK - SAN ANTONIO - DALLAS - BALTIMORE AT 2AM AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE STILL ALIVE.
Gio, what a stark difference between the streets you are walking and the high rise condos in the background. I am a high rise condo person or gated community person.
I have never felt unsafe in the Philippines. I am 188cm, 115kgs, and reasonably fit which helps. I would tread carefully if you party too hard, and are not careful about the women you associate with. No different than any other country, you are a guest. If in doubt, walk away...
Have travelled 4 times in the Philippines, stayed a total of 9 months, never have I felt threatened in any way. In my opinion it is THE safest place on earth. Apart from the southern most part/ muslim part.... go figure 🤔😅
KEEP the videos coming Gio. Most places are safe. You could be anywhere really but if you come across the wrong person at the wrong time it could get bad....like when my wife gets angry. 🤣
After living in Vietnam 14 years you can get a feel for the bad ones if any. I got stock back in Texas when the COVID hit so now waiting for Asia to open with no complications then will be back. Thanks for your video keep up the good work. 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Gio, at about 17:20 there was graffiti along the metal wall/fence. Do they have gangs and/or a gang problem there in the Phils. like here in the USA?
Like every where be careful where you walk esp at night. Know where to walk into and where not too is wise. Remember if you are living or just visiting in a different country the laws are not what you may think. Good topic and nice conversation as you both walk. Thank You for sharing and keep safe.
I can understand living there if an ex-pat is locked in with a wife and children. Living there may be the only option. I lived in southern Luzan, near Legazpi, for 18 months. I am now in Thailand, happily, for over two years. There really is no comparison. The only thing better in Pi, IMO, are Filipinas. I now fly over my Filipina and she also loves Thailand. We have found a way to get her a long-term visa so all can work out. I have made it crystal clear to her that I will never live in Pi again.
Love you’re videos. I’m planning on joining my wife is already in Cebu. A little worried about the ability to get medical care if I happen to get sick. Are the hospitals overwhelmed? Any thoughts about this would really be welcomed.
Hi gio I like the walking videos I went to iligan city February 2020,and sometimes I didn’t feel safe ,had some dirty looks from a certain sector of the population ,but on the bright side ,I had company for two weeks and visited the water falls where you went once with lots of steps ,and I went swimming there ,what a beautiful place Thanks
If a foreigner comes to the Philippines acting arrogant and feels like superior than everyone else and knows everything about our country, then he will be in big trouble there. Also keep your big mouth shut. Remember, you are just a guest in our country, respect us as a people and our culture, then you will be fine. Like any countries in the world, avoid going to places that are not safe.
Hi Gio! Thank you very much for the video. All your Videos are always clear and good quality, always pleasant to watch. Yes, by the way, maybe you would make another one online discussion about safety in the Filipinos after certain occasions! Foreigners Behavior/safety after breaking up with Filipina! For example, how safe is it to stay at the same place or walk on the same streets, eat at the same restaurant or visit the same places after breaking up with your Filipina? Even, if you are that kind of Man and have another Filipina every month, how people around you react, behave, what is their attitude? Do local people tents to condemn you?
Perhaps the kid swore at you because he didn't get a donation. I've been with Filipinos before who told me someone was swearing at me in their language.
The only thing I fear and avoid if possible are Filipino police and street children. Both are unpredictable and dangerous. Good to see Paul with you on this one.
the biggest danger I have when i am in the Philippines, Cambodia or any other Asian or Latin country is that some cute black-haired lady with mocha-colored skin and dark eyes will steal my heart and won't give it back. If i feel completely safe walking down the street at 2am in Sao Paulo Brazil Manila should be no problem. Just know what neighborhoods you dont belong in and if you find yourself in one just smile to everyone you see. Most Gangs and criminals do not want to bother tourists because if they did it exposes them to the community. Besides tourists are likely patronizing the businesses that they operate and they have little interest in you unless you are causing problems or threatening them in any way.
One piece of advice when traveling in Asia is never get into fights here. Most Asians look small but even if you are a body builder you arent going to be able take on 100s of them. There are many videos on youtube of people who got into fights with locals in China, Cambodia, Thailand, Viet nam and elsewhere. The mentality here is that if a foreigner attacks one Cambodian he is attacking all Cambodians and Cambodians will rush to defend their own.
Agreed the drunk intoxicated Foreigner gives us all a bad name and I really hate seeing that. But your sense of feeling safe or not feeling safe is absolutely as false as thinking the Philippines is a safe Paradise. 98% of the people are wonderful honest, is that 2% that would cut your throat and never think again spending your money. Nearly 30 years and I can say, I know a little too much. How many murders are nice and extremely gruesome. Two people Filipinos in my xy's family were murdered. One was a sweet innocent single mom raped and cut to pieces and left to bleed, and then her grandfather separate incident very similar only even more gruesome.. I personally pursued an investigation and dealt with pilipino police oh, and it went nowhere. I know who did it. it happens in no other country that I have experienced directly knowing people that were murdered. Two other cases on Bohol when was it a nearby neighbor American another a European both murdered by their own wife's Filipino boyfriends, then sold or stole everything and walked away free.. one must press charges for the crime. No one did.. Something as simple as a misunderstanding can turn the mail Filipino ego into a rage because they are highly emotionally suppressed so when they explode it often turns violent and I have faced a stupid misunderstanding and an ignorant Filipino with a broken Coke bottle in my face. There was no alcohol this was all because they're small-minded and just simply didn't understand with a language barrier. some foreigners will not like hearing this kind of thing and give some heavy denial or point the finger of blame even my Direction, but that is truly ignorant and they don't have a clue, perhaps living in their bedroom as air conditioning and cable TV they don't really get out much. If you really look into this topic and I have you can find it in the news and pretty much weekly a foreigner is murdered in Cebu, or even the whole family shot in the head I've seen all of this. Sounds bad a lot of people will be in denial but you can wake up to reality and be careful oh, you can simply not be there, or you can live in Dreamland thinking so it would never happen to me. Your white skin makes you a Target automatically that is the fact,Andy regardless how nice you are how pleasant you are you could easily be the victim of kidnapping like several groups taken by Abu sayyaf, even kind missionaries have been senselessly murdered and blindsided. So to some degree it is a game of Oz and you may have a lifestyle that increases the risk, or you may just simply be lucky and have good timing. However I still May move there and live full-time. good topic about when bad things might happen thank you, salamat
I was just browsing, and came across your vid, coz I’m missing Philli 😢 Where are you guys? What got me curious is the swanky condos just on the other side, of a perfectly normal and peaceful neighbourhood. Probably a great neighbourhood to invest in. Keep safe.
If you go to the more populated cities in the Philippines, like Metro Manila, it's not safe. I went to a wet Market in Quezon City and my wallet was pickpocketed.
That's true especially before pandemic they targeted students too that's why if you're in a crowded place like manila you will never ever let your guard down that's what i've learned since i was kid
but to be fair most of my dangerous experience it was the last was when foreign men makes a trouble but that was often happens in nightclubs i remember my last experience was with this when we witness a fight between this filipino-american and american guy somewhere in makati they ruin our day because of thier fight
Well said and shown! I feel the same way here and I am a female. Yes, the BEST advice is to stay away from the drunks! It is disgusting how many foreigners come here to be drunkards in their retirement age. It gives us foreigners a bad name. You are a hero for stopping that drunk especially in a car on National Highway! Oh my! You surely saved others LIVES that day!
Love your videos. One question about living abroad. No one ever talks about the wildlife and bugs over there. Is that an issue or concern? I've heard that the wildlife has free access to you and your home.
As a white 42yo male in the USA, I'd feel safer living in the Philippines where I'm actually valued. Go where your treated best. So my goal is to save literally for the next 10 years, leave the usa, and start life in either south east Asia, or Europe. I will never, ever marry in the usa! I'm lucky, no divorce, child support, or alimony. Earn in the west, spend in the east. Retire by 52-55yo, live off of about 300k in savings until social security retirement kicks in at 62yo-65yo
Perhaps, in the future, if your travel companion is going to speak, a separate mic is provided to him. Cute video. Didn't really show a lot of places, but still a bit interesting.
In the day time is safer but at night is a different situation try going to Mindanao especially towards Marawi I was in a neighboring city and the Muslims do not like foreigners there and my wife’s family in Mindanao feared for my safety ,as well as in Manila after the pandemic declared I was almost robbed and from that time I learned after dark it safer to take taxi after it gets dark there which of course after 6 pm in the evening in the Philippines 🇵🇭!
If you're hungry only have a dollar in your pocket you have no choice but to eat at a carinderia or streetfood but you still need to watch and know what you will eat.
The walk in the neighborhood was reminiscent of my childhood. I grew up in a small city in China, the sights in my neighborhood in the 80s and early 90s were quite similar to this one. By today's standard, the neighborhood should be called a slum. However back then, we grew up happily as little kids and no one felt poor or inferior, coz every family's livelihood was pretty much the same. Maybe some better-off families owned big color TV and most families only had Black and white TV, that was pretty much the gap between rich and poor. Parents didn't have to worry about their children's safety, cos there were basically no cars on the streets, only a few motorcyles. People raised chicken outside there house. People had no private toilet but chamber pots, every morning there were long queues before the public toilets. Things started to change in mid-90s, when my family, along with more and more families moved out to the newly built apartments, but my grandma was still living there. In 1999, the whole neighborhood was demolished and replaced with new apartment buildings two years later. All families who still lived there were given a new home in the same old address. My grandma said she never dreamed in her whole life that one day she could live in an apartment with a toilet. She lived there for ten years and passed away at the age of 89. Looking back at the dramatic changes in our lives from the 80s to now, it was simply unreal.
How much is a condo rent in US dollars. Hv u ever lived in a village near water, only way to access via water. If so hw was that experience. Do u two hv Filipina wives or friends.
They’re wondering what a couple of “Canos” are doing strolling through their barangay, lol. It’s all good. Always a fun and informative video Gio. Blessings to you and Paul.
I would say that in any country there will always be that place where you're not suppose to just walk around specially alone & to play it safe when it comes to entertainment choose the high end areas! But love the tour actually! Miss those neighborhoods w/ dogs & rooster noises everywhere!!
Hello guys this is the Mexican. I fallow you all the time. For my bother that just separated just want to say that I did enjoyed your blogs with that little girl. Not mentioned names so no one gets offended. One day will come to Filipinas. Lol most girls think in a Pinoy.
Filipinas are often referred to as the Latinas of the pacific. Spain ruled here for 400 years. My wife's last name is Serrano. They have over 178 dialects here and one of those dialects is referred to as, "broken Spanish." A lot of their traditional music, dance, and non-native customs were brought over from Spain. Most of the country is Catholic so whatever religious holiday they have in Spain or Mexico, they probably have it here as well. Americans gave the Philippines SPAM, chlamydia, and rock-n-roll.
One of the best videos I have seen for a very long time, absolutely spot on with everything you both said, when in Rome do as the Romans do, embrace the people as you both do, fit in, you never ever know when you may need their help, great video, very poignant 👍
If I built a house in the Phillipines or Thailand, I would add some serious sound proofing. One reason I like Japan is there is a lot less noise pollution
I lived on Mindanao in Tagum for about 6 months. Terrible infrastructure. Internet sucks, water pressure sucks, brownouts are constant. We drove up through the mountain to visit my wife's uncle who lived in General Santos. That's about as far north as you want to go as an American.
From my experience it is rather safe. But wanted your opinion if you think with an expected huge number of foreigners to be there in 2022 do u think it will become more dangerous? Im thinking it will for a number of reasons. Would be interested in hearing your opinion .
Yikes! That street chicken that's cooked in old oil is not a good idea. Old, rancid, over-used cooking oil--besides tasting nasty--is carcinogenic as all hell.

About me: My name is Gio and I left the USA over 5 years ago to travel SE Asia and live a better life. Follow my journey as I travel around The Philippines reviewing different islands and cities.
My channel: Reviewing different islands and cities in The Philippines as places to visit or live, condo and apartment reviews, dating tips, & how to travel and live inexpensively in The Philippines.
Thanks to President Duterte for making Philippines safe by getting rid of all drug related people .
DONT BE AFRAID IF ALL EYES IS WITH YOU BCOZ THEY GETTING SHOCK THAT THERES FOREIGNER PASSING BY IN THEIR AREA NOTHING MORE JUST TALK TO THEM NICELY AND THEY WILL HELP YOU
The one thing I hate seeing is the trash just thrown everywhere, it would be so great to have a litter free Philippines.
Thanks for sharing. But do you think that the Philippines will go back the way it was now that D30 will be retiring?
@@armaniyo hopefully not😔
a lot of people really hate duterte but I don't know why?
sure he might be unlikeable
but he made many peoples life better
@@armaniyo I'm sure a lot of people are just biding their time waiting for D30 to leave office. I hate seeing it go back to the way it was.
I've been to Philippines many times. I have never had a problem, I've rode jeepneys, trikes and scooters. I was taught as a young man to walk down the street like you own it but not looking like an ass doing it. Be confident
Filipinos seem so innocent, it’s easy to forget to guard your words… give respect and you’ll get respect.
When they''re staring at you, wave. If they don't wave back, it might not be a good idea to hang around there much longer.
Because he is different fr. the eyes and new comer to that area but it's normal !
It’s good to see Paul in a better humor than in the last video which he deleted. Some viewers were pretty hard on him. None knew enough to have any legitimate opinion, and neither do I. Glad you are standing by your friend.
I walk this sort of neighborhood daily in Cebu City and have found that a hearty Good morning (in Visayan) and a smile helps you.
Yep, just smile and say 'Kumusta' and the locals will respond with a smile and nod. If you want to make a Filipino laugh, just start speaking English to them like you were old friends. They'll start laughing and beg you to stop before they get a nose bleed.
You are exactly right
Maayong Buntag
They probably wanted to make a meal out of the dog and you got in the way.
God bless you
That is tough for me, as an animal lover, I don't know if I could reside and retire in Philippines to see that happening on a normal basis. As a white American I'd feel a little better in a country more civilized somewhere in Europe, or Baltic/Slavic countries.
I would hate to see abuse but dealing with drunks seems like a no win situation

I live south of st.Louis so nothing the Philippines could do would be more dangerous then St. Louis Missouri. Trust me on that !!!
And E. St. Louis too!
Or London, very dangerous parts of it
Go to Tawi Tawi, Mindanao.
Trust me I have absolutely no reason to visit tawi tawi, just imagining the thought of being held captive and possibly beheaded, fuck that.. but I’m quite curious about it all
I had a world traveler from Africa once tell me that American cities were the most dangerous and violent in the world.
Yep, 'cause homie don't play!
Seems like it, but I should say yes! Totally different from the Philippines when we talk of safety!
He ain't wrong.
Your a walking target to them
Do not roam around at late night specially at unknown areas.
I think u deserve it...dont just come to the philippines to play with our Filipinas..how rude of you...have some respect..its the kind of people like you that this country should avoid...
@@ramseyleo play with your filipinas? So you should ensure they are interested in locals instead.
Yep.. been here 10 months and learned the hard way its very dangerous here and filipinas what you said is right had 2 gfs and refused to be a atm.. the relationships ended not that much longer after that.
😂😂😂
Hey Gio, good topic covered in this one. As a retired Marine, I've been in several foreign countries. It's kinda common sense to know where you should or shouldn't go. Much like being New York city, avoid a dark alley at 2am kind of thing.
Coconut milk tea delicious!
It’s good to see lots of construction
going on in the in land, thanks Gio for for
showing the little town
All I know is that Camiguin island is by far the safest place I have ever lived and no crime and very clean. Cooler weather than CDO are Dumaguete. More rain but mostly at night. Green lush and Beautiful
I really missed the sweetest "lanzones" fruits originally from the Camiguin Islands.... 🏝️
please consider a video topic of identification of foreigner failures
Thanks guys nice video and lovely to see Paul again.
been to Philippines many many many times over the last 25 yrs, never felt scared , and the reason is wherever you go you are usually a novelty, so no one is going to do anything to you because as it will not go un noticed , or un punished
Exactly...
filipinos stares at you because they don't see many foreigners ..especially if you go to remote areas in Philippines you get more stares..but danger??? you are far from danger,, we filipino stares at you just out of curiosities 🙂.here in the u.s.
Making anyone in Asia lose face is a bad idea
Gangs is really annoying as a locals. But the Philippines have gang cleaner where the people just vanish out if thin air
Always enjoy your informative videos. I wait in patience to visit you guys lol
Great video Gio, I really like the sights and sounds of that neighborhood. Paul has a good head on his shoulders if only more expats had an attitude like you guys 👍🏽❤️🇵🇭
I enjoyed the video and you gave some good commentary.
Also keep in mind that it's safer to walk with someone, like you & Paul were doing, rather than walking alone like a single first-time visitor might try to do.
How about walking through the neighborhood at 2AM?
We have a curfew so u cant go out by that time
I think its more dangerous in some state of US compared here ..still more fun here brother
That place brings back memories. It is near the first hotel I stayed at. The Costabella. Miss the Philippines.
Gio, what a stark difference between the streets you are walking and the high rise condos in the background.
I am a high rise condo person or gated community person.
Very nice video Gio & it shows the flip side of Philippines
Thank You great video !
I have never felt unsafe in the Philippines. I am 188cm, 115kgs, and reasonably fit which helps. I would tread carefully if you party too hard, and are not careful about the women you associate with. No different than any other country, you are a guest. If in doubt, walk away...
the what looks like pipe network on the newer buildings is that for hot water ? or water storage ?
Have travelled 4 times in the Philippines, stayed a total of 9 months, never have I felt threatened in any way. In my opinion it is THE safest place on earth. Apart from the southern most part/ muslim part.... go figure 🤔😅
Been here 9+ years much safer than 🇺🇸
Thank you for liking our country. :)
Nick- Have you ever been to Japan 🇯🇵 or Thailand?
I've heard they're the safest, in that order.
@@stevecarr1992 safest is taiwan and even covid free wo lockdowns ^^
Very cool walk about. I plan on visiting when things calm down with the pandemic.
I enjoyed this video and your honest perspective. Be safe, man!
KEEP the videos coming Gio. Most places are safe. You could be anywhere really but if you come across the wrong person at the wrong time it could get bad....like when my wife gets angry. 🤣
Lol
After living in Vietnam 14 years you can get a feel for the bad ones if any. I got stock back in Texas when the COVID hit so now waiting for Asia to open with no complications then will be back. Thanks for your video keep up the good work. 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Gio, at about 17:20 there was graffiti along the metal wall/fence. Do they have gangs and/or a gang problem there in the Phils. like here in the USA?
No not here
Thanks to both of you for your great info and Experience. Stay Safe.🙏😷
IMO the key to being safe is what are you doing drinking and bar life any place often leads to trouble . Being watched so much would feel strange tho
Nice vid!
Thank you for showing our Country to your friends/subscribers....
I'd prefer to travel to a latin american country but the philippines seem a lot safer
Watching from Spain. Good video..Take care..
Love you’re videos. I’m planning on joining my wife is already in Cebu. A little worried about the ability to get medical care if I happen to get sick. Are the hospitals overwhelmed? Any thoughts about this would really be welcomed.
Hospitals in Cebu are good.
Cebu Doctors, Chong Hua hospitals are very good. There are several private hospitals within the Cebu Mandaue area.
Thanks for showing, but how was your coconut-milktea ?
It was good
Most Filipinos will tell you the places you should avoid.
Your right sir..pinoy are kindness, hospitable and mostly happies❤🤗💪👏🙏
Only problems I have had is overly persistent panhandlers, or people that want to carry your luggage when I don't want them to.
Hi gio
I like the walking videos
I went to iligan city February 2020,and sometimes I didn’t feel safe ,had some dirty looks from a certain sector of the population ,but on the bright side ,I had company for two weeks and visited the water falls where you went once with lots of steps ,and I went swimming there ,what a beautiful place
Thanks
I am sad that you felt that in Iligan CIty. That is my second home in my country. I love this little City...
Good video. I have lived in Thailand for about 10 years and this video very much applies to living there too.
Big city probably no problem but a smaller city people would certainly look down upon that behavior.
Perhaps the kid swore at you because he didn't get a donation. I've been with Filipinos before who told me someone was swearing at me in their language.
Probably due to mobile games for the most part. I think the Philippines should regulate playing mobile games. It's toxic and children learn the cuss.
In the philliippies don’t be offended if you are called a cano it just a slang term
Would you walk through there at 2 in the morning and still feel safe?
I would yes but not sure why I would.
It happens here in America when you are walking in a neighborhood that you are not from or you are of different race people stare at you
It's a lot more dangerous when you walk with your back to traffic
The only thing I fear and avoid if possible are Filipino police and street children. Both are unpredictable and dangerous.
Good to see Paul with you on this one.
Ahrrrr, a no sleeze Vlogger in the Philippines.
Thank you.
I don't feel like being there, guys. It is noisy and stressful with the traffic
Leo- You'd definitely hate Pattaya Thailand then also.
My gf want to know what camera you using. Looks so nice she said. She from Gingoog, currently in manilla.
DJI pocket 2
Those two backfires could be unsettling to some of us....especially guys from Chicago...wait that's Me lol
You should sit and have a coffee , support your local community
the biggest danger I have when i am in the Philippines, Cambodia or any other Asian or Latin country is that some cute black-haired lady with mocha-colored skin and dark eyes will steal my heart and won't give it back.
Noticed a big difference in quality when seated in one place vs walking. Specially with the audio!
Thanks for your daytime stroll through a Pi village to show the safety good or bad but nowhere is safe at night
Frightening, so sad!
Or cebu as well, that was first place I attempted pickpocketed
That's true especially before pandemic they targeted students too that's why if you're in a crowded place like manila you will never ever let your guard down that's what i've learned since i was kid
but to be fair most of my dangerous experience it was the last was when foreign men makes a trouble but that was often happens in nightclubs i remember my last experience was with this when we witness a fight between this filipino-american and american guy somewhere in makati they ruin our day because of thier fight
What part of the phillipines are you in in this video?
Lapu lapu
May I know where is this place sir?
Well said and shown! I feel the same way here and I am a female. Yes, the BEST advice is to stay away from the drunks! It is disgusting how many foreigners come here to be drunkards in their retirement age. It gives us foreigners a bad name. You are a hero for stopping that drunk especially in a car on National Highway! Oh my! You surely saved others LIVES that day!
You said it..and they blame it to the filipinos if they get into trouble.whatta shame
Love your videos. One question about living abroad. No one ever talks about the wildlife and bugs over there. Is that an issue or concern? I've heard that the wildlife has free access to you and your home.
There are rats and roaches so it's a good idea to have your home fumigated once a month, keeps the bugs away!
Hello Joe & Joe!
I would off liked to see more of the coffee shop but you switched the camera off lol.
Perhaps, in the future, if your travel companion is going to speak, a separate mic is provided to him. Cute video. Didn't really show a lot of places, but still a bit interesting.
Very good
what place that?
Looks like the most caution is as walking in the road…no sidewalks and so much trash
went there a few times to buy fish very safe and hanged out at the rough old basket ball court
I have guard dogs which make me sleep real good.
Hello new subscribber here from cavite💓
One of the best videos I have seen for a very long time, absolutely spot on with everything you both said, when in Rome do as the Romans do, embrace the people as you both do, fit in, you never ever know when you may need their help, great video, very poignant 👍
If I built a house in the Phillipines or Thailand, I would add some serious sound proofing. One reason I like Japan is there is a lot less noise pollution
as an american i probably would avoid muslim areas like Muslim Mindanao.. youll prob be fine. but for me not worth the risk. its a big planet.
I lived on Mindanao in Tagum for about 6 months. Terrible infrastructure. Internet sucks, water pressure sucks, brownouts are constant. We drove up through the mountain to visit my wife's uncle who lived in General Santos. That's about as far north as you want to go as an American.
@@krah8052 But General Santos is in the south.
Thanks Gio
From my experience it is rather safe. But wanted your opinion if you think with an expected huge number of foreigners to be there in 2022 do u think it will become more dangerous? Im thinking it will for a number of reasons. Would be interested in hearing your opinion .
Yikes! That street chicken that's cooked in old oil is not a good idea. Old, rancid, over-used cooking oil--besides tasting nasty--is carcinogenic as all hell.
bake shops look nice clean my wife allway walks around the back first to see how clean it is a lot times its bad next to river /garbage and rats
Simon- What a GREAT tip!!
Give my thanks to your wife for doing that, and to you for telling us about it.
I can't stand filth or rats either.
GOOD VIDEO 📹 👍
